Todays Headlines: South Hills completes occupation of Districts 8 & 9- Begins integration process ![]() Pictured: A native of the Ja'Hill province of District 8 welcomes South Hills Troops after they chased elf Militia forces out of the province. DISTRICTS 8 & 9 - South Hills forces successfully occupied districts 8 and 9 with 'minimal resistance' as quoted by president Rob Hunter. District 9 agreed to union with South Hills and district 8 was victim to what many still claim to be a 'genocide' by the native elf population against Human, Vulpine, and other settlers. It is reported 2 soldiers have been killed and 5 more wounded, yet otherwise the occupations went off 'without a hitch'. "Now the process begins of integrating them as territories and later states" said President Rob Hunter in a press conference today. "We want to be seen as liberators grprong them a democratic system and a free way of life- not occupiers." Although feeble protest has been put forth by the Prussian Empire, it appears they will not act upon their threats. |

Todays Headlines: Special Report Part 1: The Hidden War in Babiana ![]() Pictured: Congressman Matthew Kun walks with several SHACOG Military officials and private military contractors. JIVE COUNTY, BABIANA - A war has been going on in Babiana, one that many in the government refuse to acknowledge exists, Channel 11 gets you a inside look. Ever since the invasion and incorporation of Babiana after the the collaspe of the Babianan government, rise of a dictator and genocidal slaughter of the Human and Vulpine majority, a power-vacuum in the lack-of local government and policing has existed, only being filled by Federal troops, but since the gradual, and then rapid withdraw brought by the need of troops for the Dverian conflict, this role is being increasingly filled by Private Military Contractors, or PMC's. Channel 11 news secured a interview with one of these men, James Lenin, a employee with 'Tier 1 Operations', and we met him at the airport in Usport, for the 5 hour drive up the countryside to Jive County, a northern county and one of the main spots of unrest. When we met him at the airport, it looked straight out of a apocolypse film; He was wearing a kevlar vest, jeans, and had a 6.5mm model Assault Rifle strapped to his chest, a sign of what was to come. The first thing we noticed was how heavy the doors of his SUV where to open. 'The doors normally this hard to open?' 'They're full of kevlar and the glass is bulletproof.' We loaded up in his blacked-out SUV and got to ask him some questions on the way up. "What do you do up here?" "Basically, training local police. We rarely get in active combat, but it does happen." "What kind of people take this job?" "Mostly spec-ops backrounds, I for one am a former SHACOG Naval Special Operator. I've seen a lot of nationalites; even a ex-Loopian NKVD or two." "Why do people leave there country and service to go work for a company like this?" "The money. I for one am getting paid 3 times more then I was in the navy." It indeed, was, and is, about the money. In Q1 of 2014 alone, the South Hills Government issued over 3 billion Dollops in "private security contracting" in northern Babiana alone. This special report will continue at a later date. Edited by hobbes, Jul 5 2014, 11:54:27 PM.

Todd McCloud cruisers face incrased decommission cycle - Expected to leave fleet by mid 2015 Pictured: The SHS Ghent (CG-49) before its decommission ceremony last week Matthews Sound - Todd McCloud class cruisers were announced to undergo a increased decommission cycle, the Department of the Navy confirmed. The ships, considered 'obsolete' by the navy since the 2004 inception of the Miles Prower Heavy Destroyer have remained in service due to the lack of numbers of the Heavy Destroyers, though the navy feels the ships are now in vast enough quantity to expand plans to decommission the Todd McCloud cruisers Todd McCloud cruisers are notable as among the first to employ a AEGIS combat system, and (then) revolutionary SPY-2 radar in its inception in the late 1970's. It has been continuously upgraded with the last major service haulout in 2007. It is unknown if the ships being decommissioned will be sold to other nations, scrapped, or placed in 'strategic reserve'. |

Police standoff ends in explosion - suspected terrorist kills self, blows up house![]() Pictured: A Mint County Sheriff Tactical Team arrives at the house of alleged terrorist Jalel Iroquois, who lived in the peaceful town of Nine Palms, a small Mint Hill suburb of only 24,000. MINT ISLAND - The island of Mint, one island over from Matthews where a detonation killed six police officers yesterday, has seen over 20 raids in the last 24 hours on suspected terrorists connected to the plot. One, however, has turned deadly. Mint county sheriff's deputies, Ellis State Police, federal agents and local police swarmed on the house of a Jalel Iroquois, a suspected terrorist in connection to the plot. However, Iroquois immediately announced to police he had rigged the house with explosives. This began a deadly 4 hour standoff between authorities and Iroquois, who allegedly demanded a getaway car and 10 million dollars. Police stalled but negotiations eventually broke down. Police snipers eventually noticed 'wiring covering inside of the building that led to the doors and windows'. The order came down to attempt to kill Iroquois when he was next visible with a police sniper, as a direct raid on the house was deemed was too dangerous. The block surrounding the house was evacuated and the local Nine Palms Fire Department was placed on standby. The plan however failed when Iroquois spotted the sniper seconds before the sniper was given permission to shoot; He detonated the explosives in the house, allegedly causing a fireball that was viewable from miles away. Thanks to the pre-planning of police, no one outside of Iroquois was injured. Several houses nearby sustained minor damage from the blast. "I'm utterly terrified that such a person lived in my neighborhood - He was a reclusive guy but seemed nice. We even sat down one sunday afternoon for coffee. I'm glad no innocent or law enforcement officer was killed in the blast." remarked neighbor Bill Mirka. A spokesman of the Federal Investigative Bureau remarked that authorities have apprehended 'ninety percent' of the suspected terror cell, most peacefully. Authorities have been keeping silent on the name of the group or their intentions. The raids began after a terrorist attack on a Matthews Power Plant yesterday plunged the city of 9.5 million into darkness for 12 hours. Edited by hobbes, Nov 12 2015, 01:27:12 AM.

War Department rejects plans for women in combat units![]() Women are currently allowed to serve in 'non-combatant' rates in the South Hills Armed Forces, and it looks to stay that way. Some are questioning the War Department's decision to, after months of review, deny Women the right to enter combat units. Others are saying it is 'simply biology'. The decision was made after the Marine Corps held a study, comparing two Company sized elements; one all male, one with a proportionate amount of females. The study found that "The mixed unit had roughly half the efficiency and combat ability of the all-male unit in long term operational studies." The National Association for the Enhancement of Women's Rights strongly detested the situation, noting that "Individual performance of each women should be assessed, not the units". The Marine Corps stressed that team based efficiency is the key to any military operation, and thus was the key of their study. Women are currently allowed in all 'non-front line' roles, including most roles available to the Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force, but a majority of non-logistical roles in the Army and Marines remain restricted to women, and seemingly will continue to be so for the forseeable future. The NAAEWP had previously called upon Congress to address the issue, who, allegedly to dodge the decision, passed a bill explicitly leaving the issue to the War Department. |

Federal court rules against prisoner 'outsourcing' After a heated case made by the Southern Liberties Association against the states of Rostraver, Vernon, and Baldwin, a federal court has ruled the outsourcing of prisoners to other nations unconstitutional as 'cruel and unusual punishment.' In the majority opinion, the court noted that "Sending native sons and daughters, felons or not, to another nation where we can gaurentee neither their safety or rights is among the most unusual and cruel of punishments." The practice of 'outsourcing' prisoners began in the 1990's in Rostraver, Vernon, and Baldwin, where the state prisons are averaged at 133% of their capacity in mens prisons. Women's prisons are even more crowded in these states, with some prisons operating at 160% of original capacity. Originally proposed in these states was sending prisoners to other states, but the prices were much more competetive abroad - It costs roughly $41,000 a year to incarcerate a individual in South Hills, but about half of that in many places abroad. The SLA argued that the root of this price saving was poor conditions for inmates and cost-cutting measures; The largest of which, the SLA argued, was gender mixing and irregard for prisoner security in facilities such as the Staynish Detention Island facility. The states of Rostraver and Vernon have already filed appeals, however, the return of inmates from abroad to prisons in these states is slated to begin in early March if they fail. Terrorist attacks in Baldwin City claim 54 lives, President blames Fire Pact invasion of Adumara![]() BALDWIN - 54 people are dead and 235 injured in an attack on Baldwin's capitol; three suicide bombers detonated their vests in one of the cities more populated subway stations. The first two bombers detonated on the 1st street and 2nd avenue stations. By the time the 3rd came to his station, the port authority had became aware of the situation and the third bomber was shot dead by a port authority officer who boarded the train when he reached for what was later identified to be a trigger for the suicide vest. Al Jaheed has claimed credit for the brazen attacks, the group that is currently seizing the Taikow islands "with the knowing knowledge and blessing of the Fire Pact Alliance" per the President's spokesperson. In a statement this evening, the President's spokesperson gave a sharp warning to the Fire Pact Alliance; that someone will atone for their invasion destabilizing the continent and now leading to the death of Southern citizens. More specifically, it called on the Fire Pact Alliance to reestablish order in Al Jaheed controlled territories within 72 hours. More on this story as it develops. |

President Robert Hunter was pronounced dead as of 8:53:18PM local time in the Felicity McCluncy Memorial Hospital in the Elizabeth Federal district not far from his home. President Hunter leaves behind a life of achievements including serving as a local mayor before going on to serve four terms as a Representative, two terms as Governor, and finally two terms as President of the council of governments. Joshua Timun, the speaker of the senate, had been serving as acting president in Mr. Hunter's absence. He will continue to serve in this role until a special election is to be scheduled not more than a month after the President's passing. Timum has confirmed he will not seek the seat. Though both the Liberal Republican party that President Hunter was the leader of as well as other major parties such as the Labor and Freedom parties had anticipated the President's death or retirement, no candidates have officially stepped up for the special election yet. |

Duquesne governor chosen as new President by Senate vote. ELIZABETH FEDERAL DISTRICT - In a snapshot vote last night, Miranda Todd has been elected as President of South Hills by Senate majority vote (65-35). The governor of Duquesne has historically been apolitical; elected by the Duquesne State House on those grounds. While some worry this means she won't take any initiative with the office, Senate leaders argue this is the kind of president the union should have, leaving the politicking to the senate and Peoples' House. Mrs. Todd is the second youngest person to hold the office at the age of 39, and the third woman to hold the office. She, her husband, Jason Todd, a retired Air Force Colonel and pilot, aged 42, and daughter Millicent, aged 11, are expected to occupy the Presidential House this upcoming Monday, though they were informally sworn in tonight. It is still legally murky as to how long Ms Todd is expected to hold the office with elections this upcoming October, and if this extension of what was Robert Hunter's turn will count towards her limit; Historically, presidents have resigned when faced with life threatening illnesses. President Hunter was only the second president to die in office, the first, Jackson Cloons, being shot in 1947. The office itself of President is relatively new; the nation had no formal chief executive on a federal level from the nations foundation in 1690 until 1941 when the office was formed. |
