About Hobbes I- at least, in this incarnation (I've been on NS on and off), was founded, in, and joined TEP as a citizen earlier this year. I rose up the ranks, joining the Magisterium by the end of July and EPSA around the same time. Around August I became a member in the NPO at the urging of Krull and others, and settled myself down in the GCR world. I've been on both sides of the R/D game, being the de-facto leader on most if not all of EPSA Raiding operations, including occupieing Warzone Africa for 2+ weeks and defeating multiple Mordor attempts to take it back. I am rather into TEP Roleplay (cough, RP mod, cough), although admittingly I am assuming the role of more of just a mod as RP is less then active right now. As for gameplay itself, I am decently known and generally liked by whom I am known, for example, my RadioNS project, although it ultimately failed, succeeding in bringing diverse crowds of GPers together on multiple occasions, breaking 50 listeners during the now infamous 'Unibot & Karp show' As for TEP's government, I believe I am qualified and interested in positions in TEP, and willing to contribute: I am the author of the EPPS act, I have served as a magister for months before serving as a Arbiter, and have been AMOM's 'FA guy' on a lot of occasions. I currently am a citizen in TEP, TP, Osiris, and Lazarus. Edited by hobbes, Oct 23 2013, 10:19:43 PM.

Current Issues - Here is my response and ideas on current issues in TEP and NationStates gameplay itself. Osiris - Oh boy, this is going to be tough, I see this as a no win- no matter which stance I take, someone will hate me, But heres my overall opinion, hated or not. I believe, Osiris, and its citizens have a right to a government, be that Democracy, or far from it. If they want one or another, that is there choice, however, I have seen no real indiciations from Asta's government to prove this is what the people want, with the fact that she often needs foreign support to keep her above 100 endorsements disturbing, to say the least. As for our (now closed) embassy, I believe we should open up chains of communication within Osiris's government, and begin talks to hopefully see some sort of constitution established, I understand that is Osiris's problem, however it should be of concern in TEP. Lazarus- As a citizen in Lazarus, a overwhelming majority of its citizens, and concluding a vote from its Parliament, I see no reason not to trust the decision to change constitutions as illegal or worthy of concern - Relations should remain open and free as they are now. Gatesville- Unfortunately, we are kind of deadlocked with this. as others said, If we simply 'call the war won' most will see it as preemptive, and just declaring the war null and void will inevitably result in Gatesville calling it surrender. As much as I am not a fan of a 'infinate' state of war, this seems as the only way of going about it unless something else comes up. TEP's Foreign Affairs- This is a big issue, even before AMOM took office, FA is a mess. I have plans on fixing this involving recruiting new Ambassadors and assigning roles accordingly, re-working the whole Embassy system may be on the agenda, and the Prime Minister (Which we will review later), will have input on this as well. TEP Internal Policy-I believe some of the internal workings of TEP require changes, others not. Eastern Pacific Sovereign Army- I believe this has been by far the best functioning of the agencies under Delegate, and if prussia wishes to retain his position as General, he has every right to keep it. However, some policies involving how/when raids can be authorized should be reviewed. Eastern Pacific Police Service- I believe I have gotten this up on its feet during my time as its Commissioner, and should no one be nominated by the time elections end, i wish to nominate Babs for its commissioner. He knows what hes doing and is certainly capable. Prime Minister- Yes, originally titled 'Vice Delegate' but I have changed the title to avoid confusion with other regions systems. Basically, in charge of a good deal of responsibilities that the Delegate already possesses, to reduce the workload and give a TEPer a insight into the Executive system- Who knows, we could give the next delegate a look at how TEP operates. Eastern Pacific News Service(If it passes) - I thank Prussia for proposing this and this legistration has my full support. Here is some things we can do with the EPNS: -Put the Editor in charge of our Regional Newspaper (NS++) -Let the Editor compose regional telegrams once a month or so that I will send. Community Outreach - I believe, one of the Delegates roles should be to keep in touch with the community as much as the community is in touch with the Delegate, So heres some proposals to get the TEP Community involved: -Bringing back Todd's State-Of-The-Region address on IRC- but about once a month,if not halfway through my term. -Hosting Skype Chat's once every two weeks, possibly with a speech and a community Q&A about current events. Regional Security - Particulary with the new GCR influence changes, I believe TEP Regional Security needs addressed. -Getting the EPPS on-the-ball with the endorsement cap -Possibly adding another Vizier or two -Better enforcement of the RMB with new Regional Officers additions. Conclusion: I believe I am the best interest in The Confederated East Pacific for Delegate this term, due to my all-roundedness about all issues, openness/transparency, and above all dedication to the current problems TEP faces, while covering most,if not all fronts the next Delegate will face, with remarkable openness to TEP's citizens. Most likely direct confirmation from the delegate(It's sort of kind of been bypassed due to AMOM's unavailabiliy) and probably some thread in the Executive forum confirming something happened last update. |

How will you organize your government? What kinds of ministers will you nominate? Who will you appoint as Commissioner and Editor (assuming the news service is created)? What positions will you create within the executive? How will you work with the Magisterium? What changes do you propose for the Conclave? How will you measure the success of your term as Delegate? |

How will you organize your government? I plan on utilizing the currently set system (Delegate, Ministers, EPSA/EPPS/EPNS if its made) and building upon that with things such as Prime Minister. What kinds of ministers will you nominate? I plan on opening up a Prime Minister positio, as discussed, and reviewing where ministers are needed elsewhere. We may have a independent FA minister if anyone wants it. Who will you appoint as Commissioner and Editor (assuming the news service is created)? No one seems interested in Editor, and I have already stated my prefered nominee for Commissioner under the 'internal policy' section, What positions will you create within the executive? Prime Minister, and re-opening Ambassador positions. How will you work with the Magisterium? Actively contributing to Magisterium discussions as I do now, and being open to ideas. What changes do you propose for the Conclave? I have a whole post on that in the thread, i feel as if these questions may be a tad too generic. How will you measure the success of your term as Delegate? Obviously no invasion or coup would be pretty high out there- But i'd like a more functioning Conclave and executive branches, as well as a solution to osiris. Gatesville would be nice but no gaurentees. |

Your platform is very nicely articulated and you defiantly have a plan on what you would like to be done. I remember when I first saw you pop up on the RMB and from there you really took initiative. You are a very strong candidate If you are elected to delegate I'm sure you will guide TEP effectively. This being said: What is your position on the endorsement cap? What will you do I the case of a forum/ activity stagnation within the region? While your time in TEP has been very productive what would you say to the thought of you being to new to TEP to govern in effectively and holding together the very wide range of personalities that have been active in TEP since before your arrival? |

What is your position on the endorsement cap?- I disagree with the Magisterium setting it as situations (as I have defined in the thread) will require less than a 7 days wait. But I am in favor of a higher cap for TEP citizens. What will you do I the case of a forum/ activity stagnation within the region? - Obviously some activities to get TEP rolling again, perhaps doing a few things on my end to get things rolling. While your time in TEP has been very productive what would you say to the thought of you being to new to TEP to govern in effectively and holding together the very wide range of personalities that have been active in TEP since before your arrival? - I'm willing to prove that I am capable of holding people together, look at gameplay/R/D, where I am decently regarded among most players and my other projects such as NSRadio that unified a wide diversity of NS Players (50+ at once on its time) |

Would you say your personal philosophy is more like Calvin or Hobbes? (Not the cartoon characters, but the philosophers from which their names were borrowed.) In The World Series, who are rooting for ... Red Sox or Cardinals? |

1) Not really,to be honest, both are a bit too radical for even my liking. 2) The fact (as anyone who knows me should know) that I am from the 'burgh(Pittsburgh) means I hate baseball overall because of the Pirates sucking, and therefor, don't like the red sox or the cardinals. |

I am not sure how familur you are with TEP's politics, but generally our NS nations themselves do not count towards or against our campaigns, for example, AMOM is a corrupt dictatorship with things like this:
Selecting the Delegate is more of a OOC gameplay matter than a IC roleplay one, so as a result these things have no real effect (Infact, they woulden't if it was a RP matter, as my TEP roleplay nation is South Hills, not hobbesistan) Edited by hobbes, Oct 25 2013, 02:06:58 PM.

How would you describe you, philosophically (ideologically etc.) in NS? What do you believe in.. in regards to the relations between regions (are their interregional rules?) and the relations to the individual and the region (individualism v. communitarianism) etc. etc. etc. I want to know more about you as a thinker. Thanks. |

Ooo,this might be a toughie, let me grab a drink and i'll get on this *5 minutes later* Well, philosophically involving regions would honestly be about the same though as I (hope) most people/regions possess. I formally am a follower of the idea that a embassy, is a symbol of interregional communication and good will, and should not be 'whored/piled' as some UCR's pratice. They should symbolize two regions (or more) in cooroporation and goodwill with eachover, if thats what you are asking. Idealy, i'd prefer individual nations get involved in the government more, particulary in GCR's, although, admittingly, the idea of having all 4,000 nations in TEP on our forums sounds scary and hell-like indeed, I'd at least like more people to be willing to participate, although we refrain from forcing people too. Not sure how/if that awnsers your questions, but thats at least how I interpreted them. |

Let's talk about some practical stuff -- the WFE and RMB. Currently, ours is stale. What will you do differently if you become Delegate? Lots of nations in the region engage only at this level. What will you do to make the WFE and RMB fun and interesting?

I've though about this and right now I'm considering adding latest news to the WFE, Maybe a quote of the day/week, and a RMB topic. These have been tried in other regions and generally improve activity. TEPer of the week may be a cool addition, as well. |

DO NOT WANT!!!!!!
|
I will solely be basing my vote on the answers to these questions, and mainly basing my vote on who has the guts to actually say something of significance (would you expect anything different from me)? Do you think some of the recent changes in TEP has been inspired by the recent(ish) successes or failures in any other regions? If so do you think that is wise? If not do you think there is a region we could learn a lesson from (that we maybe haven't, or maybe we haven't needed to yet)? The nine major game-created regions (5 Pacifics, 3 Revival Sinkers, and TRR) are stranded on an island. We collectively decide there is enough food for 8 of our communities to survive until we expect to rescued by the holy [Violet], and we decide we will have to vote a region off the island (and push them into the ocean full of sharks :P). Who do you think would be voted off? Who do you think should be voted off, if we had to. What is the single biggest threat or problem The East Pacific will or is likely to face in the next year (can be internal or external)? As delegate, what would you do about it? |

1) Certainly, Security is being re-looked at in part because of our war on Gatesville after the Osi Durka coup, and in part of the influence change, I personally find that a good thing, I probably can name others, just one example. 2) Who would be voted off would probably end up being Osiris, Not entirely there fault, but they are in a less-than-perfect situation right now. If I was to say who SHOULD be voted off, I'd probably choose NPO, because they are less then active right now and they'd be the least damaging leg for the 'wolf' to chew off. May just of dodged the entire point of that question, but hey, such is the point of politics. 3) In a word? Influence. The new changes will wreak utter havoc with our current Viziers once they loose influence, and we will need to hire more Viziers, which means they themselves can become more of a risk, or work up another solution. |
