Gameplay Alignment Analysis of the Candidates

I promised I would share, but the analysis is by no means groundbreaking:

Thank you to all of the candidates who took The Gameplay Alignment Test again.

What can we expect from this election?

All candidates are more defenderist and two of the candidates are significantly less cosmopolitan than A Mean Old Man, the outgoing delegate. This suggests that no matter how the election pans out, we can expect the next administration to be less focused on regionalist policy and more comfortable with The East Pacific being associated in some respects with defenderism and the protection of regional sovereignty abroad.

A Mean Old Man was very much focused on regionalist policy; his administration was concerned with Adspam (Regional Message Board Regulation Act) and cross-membership (Magister's and Foreign Amendment, EPSA Act), in addition to emphasizing an anti-cosmopolitan vision of feeder unity (The Modern Pacific Alliance). His hostile relationship to both cosmopolitans and defenders was espoused in his white paper, "The Foreign Force", which set the tone for his administration.

Perhaps, with a change of ideological focus, we will see less of a focus on issues with naturalization and cross-membership and more of a focus on the vast constitutional and structural issues -- which others have argued -- limits the activity and development of The East Pacific. In other words: we've had two years of a prolonged discussion on what it means to be a loyal member of The East Pacific (one deserving of rights and privileges), people are ready to move on and discuss the existing issues with intergovernmental relations and the Conclave that have been, essentially, put on the back-burner until now.

Contrasting the Candidates

This is an extremely difficult analysis to do with accuracy -- I can say that Bach's ideological stance most closely reflects the outgoing government (which means he might be, in some senses, the traditional choice), while Hobbes's ideological stance most closely reflects the average citizen of The East Pacific (-6.22 / -0.98) which makes him the most centrist choice. Bach's regionalist stance, like A Mean Old Man's emphasis on regionalism may distance him from cosmopolitan voters. PrussianEmpire lies more on the Top-Left Wing of The East Pacific, which may make him inaccessible to some more centre-leaning voters.

Other than that, the candidates are remarkable close to one another ideologically and I will note it's incredibly rare to see an election focusing on the top-left quadrant of the Gameplay Alignment Test. Top-Left politics are fairly rare in politics, since Left-Wing politics is generally cosmopolitan in outlook -- I would say Top-Left politics is a unique facet of The East Pacific political culture in contrast to other Game-Created Regions (barring recent political developments in Lazarus).

My score: -13.5 / -3.5

"Average citizen" of The East Pacific -4.46 / -0.48

All three candidates score more Regionalist than the average citizen (how is this computed?) and myself. I've decided my -3.5 makes me "Cosmopolitan curious," but I know from my few ventures into other regions, that Prussia and Hobbes are far more cosmopolitan than I will ever be. So this test and scoring is interesting, but how has it been validated?

My "cosmopolitan" side is me being an active member of two regions - The East Pacific and Right to Life. I've always been a regionalist and always will be. People in the UDL can confirm I've been one for quite some time - I'm sure I posted it somewhere on their forums.

The average score was tabulated based on a list of citizens for which I have their scores (in which I missed Topid -- but that's now rectified).

I think your own soul-searching stumbles upon a deep misunderstanding of the full scope of what Cosmopolitanism means...

"The Foreign Force" criticizes Cosmopolitanism on the grounds of it being, in essence, region-whoring. This is a huge misinterpretation. I, for example, belong to one region: The East Pacific. Glen-Rhodes, another self-titled Cosmopolitan is a citizen of one region: The South Pacific.

Cosmopolitanism is not just about the openness of cross-membership, it's concerned with the decentralization of power and the value of contribution (over "commitment", because the Cosmopolitan has a hard time accepted any "test" of commitment as valid). Also Cosmopolitanism is particularly individualistic -- it sees regions as bodies of people who can differ greatly in opinions. Furthermore, Cosmopolitan regions tend to be more "outward-looking" than "inward-looking".

Here's the data I used to collect the "average citizen data":

Topid -13.5 -2.5
aelitia -9 -2.5
a slanted black stripe -13.5 -3.5
Babiana 10 4.5
Bachtendekuppen -7 5
Drakkengard -13 4
Northrop-Grumman -18 -4
East Malaysia -6.5 -8.5
Lazlow -16.5 -1.5
Jurisdictions 0 4
Libetarian Republics 0 0
PrussianEmpire -13 13
packilvania -18.5 -5.5
ramaeus -5.5 -6
Heronlord -1 -5
Tano -3.5 -2
Todd McCloud 2 2
Xoriet -9.5 -1.5
Hobbesistan -7 0.5
Papercuts and Skittles 10 -6.5
Zeorus -6 -1.5
Samuel Kudrow 0 -1.5
Unibot -19 -13.5
Old Fed 2.5 -2
A Mean Old Man 0 10
AVERAGE CITIZEN -6.22 -0.98

Standard Deviation between R/D values is 8.26.
Standard Deviation between R/C values is 5.67.

Also, I have to point out that your flag is of a slanted black line against blue and green halves. :P

Ah f**k, you're right. The table was composed before I had yours and Bach's new score. *signs* Right. My bad. Shouldn't have screwed up the numbers too bad.

EDITED: fixed.

Was surprised when I retook it that I scored a 1,7. I knew I was far more moderate on raiding than I was before, but I actually came out on the raider side of the line (by one). :riot:
