WAR BREAKS OUT ON RMB: TEP DIVIDED INTO THIRDS

In October, A Mean Old Man, delegate of The East Pacific, decided to convert the regions World Factbook Entry, Regional Flag, and Personal Flag to promote the Fishmongerer Cause. This transformation of the Eastern Pacific's culture led to the fights on the Region's RMB between pro-fish supporters and pro-caek supporters. A few weeks passed, AMOM left the delegacy, and suddenly, the war on Caek broke out again. This time there was a new faction; the PI faction. As it stands, The East Pacific seems to divided between these three factions, with the RMB being the primary platform for the war between these 3 forces. The fight at one was became so heated that one Magistered proposed a law that would make Caek the official food of The East Pacific! With this war going on, the RMB has become incredibly active with all sides attempting to promote their side and discredit the others. With the war resulting in a stalemate, the Eastern Pacific News Service promises to report any new breaks in the struggle for the domination of the Eastern Pacific.

All is well in Scarlet City! TEP speaks with Chairman Milograd

TEP News Service sat down with Chairman Milograd for a little chat.

As the delegate of a long-standing ally to The East Pacific, I have to ask: how is Lazarus? There's been a lot of changes there; how are things working out?

It's working out quite well; right now, we're really building up and seeing what we have to work with. We have broken every record we had in terms of activity and there is a lot of excitement in the region.

What specific records were broken?

My first month in the delegacy featured the most posts in a month, most new registrations in a month, most users online, and most topics posted in a month in Lazarene history. We've also performed several successful army missions.

Impressive! Do you believe that as a "Defender" region, Lazarus has been more successful?

Absolutely. A lot of us have always been defenders, such as Harmoneia, and only really refrained from going in that direction as a region because of pressure. To do what we want has been quite liberating.

“Pressure”? How so?

I think there is a general expectation that has been pressed upon us by Userites that we need to be neutral for this reason and that, even though neutrality hasn't shown to itself to be beneficial to the success of any GCR. Eventually, it devolved into being a toxic political mechanism and contributed to our inactivity; I don't think it's a coincidence that the least active GCR of the past few years has quickly risen to become one of the most active now that we have moved towards something that we're more interested in.

TSP and Lazarus recently signed a Pact together; how did that come about? Do you see a future for relations between TSP and Lazarus?

It was an odd situation. I thought relations went down the tube until I had a chat with Kringalia, who informed me that Bel's actions didn't represent the Cabinet. We worked from there and managed to hammer out something that worked for both of us, and I must say that I'm excited to see the newcomers in TSP take the horns in the coming months. I'm confident that Lazarus and TSP will continue to build a greater relationship.

Lazarus has recently applied to the FRA; what convinced you that it would be a good idea for Lazarus to get involved with the FRA?

We have longstanding ties there; Harmoneia has been in the FRA for ages and so has DYP. Our closest allies (TRR) are also members of the FRA and the idea of joining was floated in the State Council because of these factors and because of the military and intelligence benefits that FRA membership entails; the Council unanimously supported the move to apply and we ended up doing so. I'm pretty excited to see how it all plays out, and think it'll rock the boat some.

TEP-Lazarus relations appear to be blossoming -- what do you think is in store for our two regions? Any specific plans for cooperation?

Bach, OF, Matheca, and I have been working on an updated treaty between our regions that will feature greater intelligence and military cooperation.

UDL recently changed its GCR Policy; do you think this is a good direction for UDL and how do you think Lazarus will respond?

I think it's a decent direction and, truth be told, I expect that it won't change the UDL's operation in practice.

I expect that they'll be there if and when a GCR is raided, but that the policy exists so that GCRs respect them more than they have in the past due to the fact that the relationship is no longer guaranteed, nor is assistance. I'm not really sure what our response will be; we'd have to talk about the idea of a treaty in the State Council.

Your thoughts on The Internationale going founderless? What's Lazarus's response been?

I sent my best wishes to the Internationale and offered them the support of the LLA whenever they need it.

Who are you placing your bet on to win TSP's contentious MoFA race?

I think Hile will win; HEM has disappeared during his last three terms on the TSP cabinet, and, as great as Horse is, Hile is a very strong candidate in anything in TSP.

Thanks for the interview, Milograd. Always a pleasure! Any final comments for the floor? :)

THINGS ARE ALL WELL IN BALDER

TEP News Service sat down with Her Nordic Majesty, Queen Rach of Balder for a nice little chat.

So I guess we should just start with the standard: How are things in Balder? Any fun projects being worked on in the Legislature? Delegate Office?

Balder is doing well, we had a fairly good November with activity picking up again. The legislature has seen a lot of change recently, it's now an application type legislation. Balder traditionally has had activity from community based events and executive ones, so we've tried different systems at different times. In the delegates office, we are looking at continuing our advances from November and trying to become a bit more involved in wider NS.

Speaking on this new application legislator system, is it similar to the system inside The East Pacific?

From what I know, it's more like The North Pacifics. Although in practice it might be more like The East Pacifics. I'm going off the assumption that The East Pacifics is fairly small, called the Magesterium I believe and requires a majority vote of acceptance.

Indeed it does. While we have multiple Pacific names being thrown around, what's the current state of the Foreign Affairs in Balder? Any treaties being worked on or attempts to tighten relations which other regions? Doesn't matter if you reply with GCR or UCR names.

Foreign affairs has been pretty good, although we've had a lot of rotation and people with RL business come up in the position. We recently are voting on a treaty with Osiris, which should hopefully lead to closer relations between us. There are currently no other treaties we have planned although we are continuing to work on establishing closer relations with many regions as always. I think right now you have a lot of regions straddling a neutral line and taking a cautious approach to their foreign affairs (Balder included) which has limited creative foreign affairs. A lot of people are concerned right now with the state of their own regions. Balders military is currently rebuilding and we're looking at the direction with that to see if it can be used as more of a foreign affairs tool and using that "viking" culture more.

What led to Balder and Osiris looking to sign such a treaty?

Well, we already had a treaty that was signed when Cormac was delegate I believe. So this treaty was simply a re-doing of the bonds. Osiris though, will be having elections later this month I believe... so we'll see what happens as it will be quite pivotal to it's near future.

What direction do you see the relationship between TEP and Balder heading?

I believe TEP and Balder have decent relations at this moment. I'm not sure how possible it will be to have stronger relations at this time as TEP has recently signed a treaty with Lazarus, a region that Balder does not have relations with any longer. So I think that TEPs stance on that makes it more difficult for it to working on stronger relations with....Balder. Although we are open to anything. The current delegate has done a good job in terms of establishing more of TEPs presence in Balders embassy.

While AMOM was delegate, there were talks of a possible TEP-Balder treaty. If talks were to resume, would you be in favor of such a treaty?

I would have to see what it would entail. I think there has to be more work on developing relations which result in productive gains from both parties. So personally, that's where I'd like to see Balder go. We do a lot of vote stomping with some of our delegate friends :P
That would probably be the most exciting thing going on atm.

So jumping over to The South Pacific's MoFA election, is there one particular candidate that you support? If so, why?

It's really not appropriate for me to comment on that :P

Do you see Balder attempting to re-open ties with Lazarus in the foreseeable future?

Not at all. Once bitten, twice shy.

One final question. How did Balder react to the new UDL GCR policy? Will it affect Balder in its planning to fight potenial coupers?

Darn, I was worried/hoping it'd be a bit more of a controversial question. It's a non-factor. We don't have a reaction to it and it does not affect our planning to fight coupers at all.

UDL Considers Reopening Conclave

The UDL’s Chief of the Band, Mahaj has officially welcomed discussion among his merrymen on whether to reopen Conclave. It was an initial promise of Chief Mahaj’s that after six months of service, The UDL would take a vote on whether to reopen Conclave. Elections are not common in The United Defenders League and they only occurred once when Unibot stepped down as Chief and his successor, Chief Solm abdicated the title in favor of elections.

“To be honest, I'm glad to be upholding a campaign promise,” says Mahaj to EPNS. “Oftentimes people don't hold their promises, especially on re-election, and I have wanted to show that I am not one of those people”.

When asked whether or not, UDL’s new GCR Non-Intervention Policy would influence the discussion on the Conclave’s reintroduction; Mahaj said he was uncertain how large of a role the policy would play in the discussion but that he expected it to be discussed.

On the subject of what he expects will define his tenure as Chief, the leader spoke of his fresh outlook on foreign affairs policy.

“I think I've been more proactive in foreign affair, in reaching out to many different regions and organizations that we wouldn't necessarily have reached out to in the past,” says Mahaj. “Most of this is still fairly quiet, but those inside the UDL are being kept aware of the progress to an extent, and I'm really proud of the work our Foreign Affairs department has done”.

But with the most important question of all, the Chief was clear and uniequivocal…

“Puffins vs. Penguins? No contest. Puffins. I hate Penguins – I’m a Caps fan”.

Discussion on reopening Conclave is expected to take several weeks.

The East Pacific's Official Statement regarding Osiris

The East Pacific takes note of the happenings in Osiris since this morning, when Delegate Venico introduced a regime change involving the Brotherhood of Malice and other raider groups.

Since The East Pacific closed its embassy with Osiris months ago, and observing that these actions are the result of political tensions within the region itself without the impetus of an outside force or a straight-forward coup, The East Pacific can only conclude that this is an internal matter between two factions of the Osiris population which marks a new episode in a continued power struggle, absent any constitution whatsoever.

While we hope to see a stable and prosperous Osiris arise once again in the future, our region most values the independence and right to self-determination for all regions, and will not intervene in internal politics.

Delegate Election Hots Up

Its that time again. Bachtendekuppen's four month Delegacy has flown past and once again the citizens of The East Pacific will vote to elect their leader.
Returning to the fray are the incumbent, Bachtendekuppen, Hobbes, and Prussia. All three have presented strong platforms and the election is expected to be harder to decide than the last, which involved the same three candidates.
Some of the issues that have come up in the lead up to the election are the question of (in)activity, eligibility for the EPSA. EPNS and Magisterium, and the voice of the Delegate in the Magisterium.
As voting starts up there is no knowing where the election will turn, although the winner may be easy to pick, second place may go either way.

New to the EPSA: Commodus - Unibot

EPNS interviewed a new recruit, Commodus, to get a sense of what it is like to be a new member of our region's proud, illustrious military.

Hi Commodus! You've recently joined the EPSA - what inspired you to join?

Honestly, I enjoy the idea of representing my region as the protectors of freedom and equality for other regions. I never knew how expansive and involved the community was until I was informed.

What was your experience in the region before you were recruited?

The East Pacific seemed like a run-of-the-mill region. To be frank, I didn't think there was much that set the other regions apart other than name. I hadn't gotten involved in the community at large until I was offered to join EPSA.

What's it like being a new EPSAer? What have you been up to?

Mainly keeping to the forums and keeping my ear to the ground for additional assignments, really. Being a member of EPSA has added a new level of depth to NationStates. I now feel more attached to The East Pacific, viewing it more as a clan (or home, if you prefer).

You were on assignment somewhere, I believe - what did that involve? Was it fun?

I was involved in the restoration of Xoria. After being granted the controls of Regional Delegate, I was tasked to set about the removal of 'The Black Riders' from the region. While it wasn't the most exciting assignment, I enjoyed being apart of ESPA's agenda so early! So, in short, yes I had fun!

Wait until you get to liberate a region! Do you believe you will get involved elsewhere in the region? Roleplay? The Magisterium? The University?

I haven't given it much thought... I'll have to wait and see where the chips fall and decide from there...

Thank you so much for the interview, Commodus! On behalf of everyone at EPNS: welcome to The East Pacific!

Thank You, sir! I appreciate the opportunity!

EPNS Relaunched: Editor Market Crashing, Puffin Takeover
by Bach

Following months of economic downturn in the East Pacifican news market, a unprecedented hostile takeover was launched by Puffin Inc. Last week, a surprise bid was made on the dormant East Pacific News Service. Citing that the EPNS "always had trouble getting of the ground, and the reason is that many want to write, but coordination and organizing is a whole different alley", new soon-to-be CEO Bachtendekuppen presented his deal to the Magisterium. While the move was unprecedented, it did seem to be legal and the proposal went to vote. With 7 Magisters already in favor, the shareholders of Puffin Inc. will probably be enjoying their first dividends soon. No lay-offs have been announced yet and it seems that all current journalists will be kept in service.

Traumatic and Horrifying Invasion of Incredibly Important Region Shows Invader Brutality
By Ramaeus

The Campaigning Lair Of Ramaeus, a region of worldwide importance and significance, was brutally and horrifically invaded, griefed, and colonized earlier today by the zealous hordes of The Other Ramaeus, sparking moral outrage across the world. The Other Ramaeus used their mind control powers to force the founder to lock the region, proclaim it a colony of The Other Ramaeus, and forced the founder to start a poll asking citizens across the world if the founder was mean. A truly despicable action by The Other Ramaeus.

EPNS Receives New Artwork!
by Bach

Only recently the EPNS saw a big change by the likes of Puffins walking in to the offices and now there's yet another change. As the observant reader might have noticed, a new shiny thing sits above the newest publication, all ready to catch said reader's eye. Featuring the widely recognized traditional colors and symbols of TEP, the designer has done a fantastic job of fitting them in to a new vibrant banner. The EPNS thanks Aelarus, also known as 'kiheerSEDMAN' on TEP's forum for the much appreciated contribution, as well as Unibot for adding a final touch.

Public Official Disclore Bill Proposed
By Bach

Yesterday a Public Official Disclosure Act was proposed by Provost ASBS in the Magisterium. Citing the "issue of foreign influence" that was raised earlier on by some Magisters, the bill aims to ease these worries by requiring disclosure of " all governmental positions in other regions, all citizenship in other regions, all leadership or membership in cross-regional organizations, and any other relationships, allegiances, or associations, excluding interpersonal relationships". While there have been some comments on exactly how far the bill should go, it seems that there is general support for such legislation.

Erelim General Xoriet Takes The Wheel; East Pacific Sovereign Army Rebooted
by Xoriet

On March 26, 2014 Erelim General Xoriet published two reforms she has been working on since the Magisterium approved her appointment as General of EPSA this past Monday. The two changes to the existing system of the Eastern Pacific Sovereign army are known as the EPSA Mentor Program and the EPSA Rank Reform.

Intended to regulate equality and the same opportunity for all, the Rank Reform is comprised of a series of requirements which must be met before a promotion to the next rank, i.e., Private to Corporal, can be achieved. Along with this is the creation of the rank of "Recruit" which is assigned to each new member of EPSA until they complete their first mission. The Mentor Program was constructed with the intent of creating a stronger bond within EPSA's ranks. Previously the army was subject to a fractious nature based on the irregularity of contact between superior officers and newcomers. Three mentors, Xoriet, God-Emperor, and Prussia have been assigned to pioneer the system and mentor the newest verified recruits. If it proves to be successful, the unity in EPSA will increase, new recruits are more likely to stay, and the members will benefit as a whole from the experience.

EPSA In FISH: Justice, Vengeance or Barbarism?
By Bach

Just over two weeks ago EPSA troops moved in to FISH and took the sleepy region completely by surprise. Initially presented as being a detag after a raid of the Black Riders, reports have been coming in that local Fishmongers, having found refuge after the TEP-Fishmonger war of November 2013, are being heavily suppressed and put to slave labor. EPSA detachments have been going in and out of the small region, apparently using it as a resting point in between operations while a garrison keeps the local populace in place.

When asked about it, Erelim General Xoriet replied that “SUPER SRSLY, EPSA intends to raze the region of FISH to the ground to show our prejudice against the Fishmonger abomination”. You know the EPNS, we do our work thoroughly, and went to check with the Puffin Delegate. Surely this could not be true: EPSA tends to do mostly defense operations or very justified “drive-by's”.

However, the Puffinesque Tyrant stated, without blinking an eye, that “It's a FISH. A breeding place of Anti-TEP FISH”, immediately continuing that “EPSA eats FISH”.

Over the last few days, a Security Council Resolution was being lobbied called "Liberate FISH", in a desperate attempt to do something, although investigators are not sure why because the region isn't passworded. It however failed to assemble enough approvals. We can only conclude that some very fishy things are still happening in the region at this point and we'll try to keep our reporter close.

Red Tape Production Industry Rejoicing: Magisterium Votes On Extensive Public Disclosure
by Bach

Starting March 25, the Magisterium has started to vote on the “Public Official Disclosure Act”, the proposal of which has been covered in our previous edition. A first of its kind in The East Pacific, the act stipulates that the Delegate, Arbiters and Magisters will have to publish and update a disclosure on all “governmental positions in other regions, all citizenship in other regions, all leadership or membership in cross-regional organizations, and all foreign titles received.”. A few changes have been made and interpersonal relationships are exempted and the Act leaves the possibility of exceptions. These exceptions however need to approval of two of these three Officials: Delegate, Provost and Viceroy.

The Act seems to gather a safe majority in the votes at the moment and several officials have already started to comply even before the vote is finished.

TEP Roleplay Rolling: New RP Structure
by Bach

On April 4th, TEP Administrator East Malaysia waltzed in the building with a unique reform announcement. For the first time since well before the dark days of the Pax Assimilation, the TEP Forum has implemented a revised structure of the Roleplay Section. Based on a proposal from Old Federalia, the new layout encompasses 3 parts: Nation Creation, TEP Evolved, Alternate Universes. These are all subfora with further content and RP'ers start out in the first, building their nation and back-stories, later on engaging in the 2 other subfora. Other notable contributors to this change were Aelitia, Todd McCloud, God Emperor and Hobbes. For the curious felines amongst you, please find the announcement here: RP Forum Announcement.

TEP Bytecoin Fortunes: A Trillion Trillion's and more
By Bach

Eyes dropped out of their sockets upon seeing the dazzling amounts of money made by the TEPXChange during this years April's Fools, the Bytecoin Market. The TEPXchange ended the day on a surplus of ฿ 3.87498869337729e+23 trillion. The biggest accounts of the exchange were British Grand Pacific with ฿ 3.80942632612535e+23 trillion, Bachtendekuppen with ฿ 6.53553112580167e+21 trillion and Todd McCloud with ฿ 2.0517610957561e+19 trillion, respectively the three overall wealthiest nations of NS. Other notable TEP'ers in the top 10 of wealthiest nations were Xoriet, East Malaysia, Hobbes and Aelitia, taking the 6th – 9th places.

Launched early by the Delegate of TEP Bachtendekuppen himself by amassing the initial fortune, a TEP-team was quickly formed to top the charts the whole day long. Supported by the newly created and secure TEPXchange, the team effort wielded extraordinary results. Accusations of scripting and bots flew around the Bytecoin forum while the team ordered their trillions of trillions around until the very last moment.

You already knew it, but we report it nonetheless: TEP is the best P.

EPSA In Osiris: Stretching our legs on April 1st
by Xoriet

April Fools Day in NationStates. An event widely anticipated in all circles due to the unique nature of the activities devised by beloved admins, it seemed to be a perfectly innocuous day in everyone's favorite sinker region, Osiris. Until, out of the blue, Osiris and Balder announced a union of their regions. This was amusing to most, perhaps alarming to those who truly believed the joke. But Osiris decided to carry it a little further. A new admin to the OFO forums was appointed, a well-known figure by the name of Unibot II. "Unibot" proceeded to ban the Pharoah from his own forums. This was still part of the harmless fun planned by Osiris. The problem came from the most notorious scourge on NS - the dreaded Fishmonger party.

The jokes about couping Osiris, always a sensitive subject when capitalized on, led to a situation that well might have been a legitimate threat. EPSA, led by their compassionate, flawless , startlingly ingenious General (did we mention how modest she is?) moved in to endorse The Imperial Crown, more commonly known as Lord Ravenclaw or Raven. After all, there is nothing quite so disruptive as an effective coup. Whether or not this threat might have become real will never be known. Sovereignty and stability have prevailed once again in Osiris, making the sacrifice of leaving the operation at hand absolutely worthwhile.
Incidentally, "Unibot" is no longer an admin, much to the sorrow of his many admirers.

Notorious Farker and Flagmaker 1 Infinite Loop Receives WA Commendation
Written by Ramaeus

Commend 1 Infinite Loop is a resolution that has been in the making for quite some time, stretching back to my early days in the SC. I was attempting to write this proposal during a time when I was struggling as an author, and needless to say, I didn't succeed in this endeavor. I struggled for quite some time before I eventually abandoned that draft and deemed my career in the SC a dismal failure, best forgotten.

Around three months after this failure, I started writing in the SC again, but I didn't achieve any success. I had four resolutions go to vote, three of which failed and one was discarded (this discard was, to my knowledge, the first time it had been used in game), but I continued trying to pass my second resolution, and that eventually came, around six months later, in the form of Commend Anime Daisuki. Needless to say, I was quite pleased.

Whilst Commend Anime was on the SC forum, I had begun the process for writing Commend Loop, but was quite nervous about what I could (or could not) produce. And this, unsurprisingly, was a result of my previous experience with this proposal. But I persisted, drafted this commendation, and was quite pleased with the feedback I received. After 2 weeks of public viewing, I submitted the draft, campaigned for it, and the rest history! And, after this ramble, the only thing I have to say is: I'm glad this arduous journey of several months is over and that Loop finally received his commendation.

Congrats, Loop.

Magisterium Night Fever
Written by Bach

A new flock of papers and words has been released upon the Magisterium, as the black plague once raged through the old continent. Carrying significant reforms, Magisters were taken by surprise by the sudden influx of work, after a period of relatively calm and Easter-enjoying relaxation.

Magister Aelitia proposed a new and unique idea for TEP's system of laws, introducing a bill on Criminal Equivalency. The bill proposes that the Conclave (TEP's traditional court) would henceforth take in to account the criminal history of Citizens when judging a new criminal case. This would entail earlier convictions in both TEP and in foreign regions. This concept seems to be quite unique to TEP and NS law.

Other new legislative proposals are the reform of criminal offenses, now spread over various Acts, in to a coherent body of law, the “Criminal Code”. This Code would be made out of three structural parts: the 'Dictum', containing general rules of justice and jurisprudence in TEP, the 'Codicis', a list of all the laws which outline criminal offenses, and the 'Transitus', a transitional law.

Lastly, the Delegate proposed some legal changes to the laws covering the organization of the Executive, structuring them in to one clear and organized law. This reform streamlines the government in a legal sense, while a similar proposal was made to re-organize the Executive section of the forum to the same purpose. With this operation, an old and organically grown branch of government would finally receive a much needed update in efficiency and organization.

A Whole New Provost
Written by Bach

Starting today, nominations are open for the election of a new Provost, the speaker of the TEP Magisterium. Current Provost A Slanted Black Stripe, having served already 3 consecutive terms, has stated not to run for another term.

It is not unknown that the position of Provost is one that comes with a lot of work and responsibility in TEP's system, as the Magisterium has a vital and central role to the policies and politics of TEP. It will be interesting to see which Magister steps up to take on this important task.

1 Infinite Loop: The Interview
Interview conducted and written by East Malaysia

A Note from East Malaysia

I decided to conduct this interview after he was commended because it seems like the right time to do so. I was ecstatic that Loop accepted to do this interview and I am honored to bring this interview to the EPNS.

1 Infinite Loop, the founder of modern The East Pacific, has had a long storied history in NationStates and is a pioneer for being one of the Farkers that brought R/D to NS. You will discover in this interview that Loop is a very humble person, how NS was, where Caek came from and much more.

The Early Days

If I am not mistaken, you joined NS from Fark? But what made you decide to join NS itself?

Honestly, it was boring, and I saw the link and decided to give it a try.

How involved were you at that time with that group of people from Fark?

The initial Fark group was just a pile of folks who came to the game from the link, it wasn't a real group hell bent on grief as the popular tale states.
I'm still involved, as founder of Farkistan

Did you do R/D from the start or did you get the hang of the game first?

Prior to us there was no Invader-Defender aspect of the game, most regions kept to themselves there was very little regional interplay or even diplomacy; Texas Wysteria and the Heartland were the only regions that intermingled to any degree.

Can you tell me about what, if any, organizations you were in and what your role (or position) in them was?

Pretty much the Farkers were my game, I was briefly involved in the meritocracy but it became for a bit an ADN puppet and mouthpiece, I was associated with the AA a bit and was early on friendly with the NPO, and there were little brief groups I talked to or advised.

In The East Pacific

Do you remember when TEP was turned into a Feeder region?

TEP was not a user founded region very long, right about the time of the Heartland invasion was when it became a feeder just before or about the time of the reign of Lothlandermore.

Could you tell me more about how you got involved in TEP (what organization or self-interest, if any)?

After the invasion in the Heartland, I wanted a rest and came here, and was here a month or so, when I became interim Delegate.

When did you decide to bunker down and actually stay with TEP and start the forum and start a government?

After I became delegate I discussed it with the Farkers and we thought a feeder was a neat thing, so I went on with trying to change the game (the Farkers real quest was a way play the game differently see what it was capable of) by changing interregional politics.

I believed that a major region could be Peaceful and RP but not uppity, a lot of the RP regions were "better than you" types, and I believed that you could manage RP in a way that it was open to everyone, regardless of skill or experience, and with the group that came to the region we did change it, we had activity and interregional politics with out the drive of military drama.

Did you think more than 10 years later, TEP would still be going strong? It is a long time to have a continual forum.

Honestly I thought by now some warmonger would have taken over and driven us out to a user created region, but the fact that the region is still here and strong is testament to that original belief.

What was being Delegate like in NS at that time? Can you think of a good and bad moment of the region during your Delegacy that you feel is important?

At the time of my Delegacy there were the new founded defender groups all out to make a name for themselves by crushing invaders and since I was a rather public invader figure I was a target from nearly day one. Being delegate was hard, no mass telegrams, no ejection button, and the mods were blatantly skewed to defenders and RPers, and rather anti-TEP.

My best moment catching the super griefer sure I almost lost the region, but all was well in the end, and one time I was at FYE at the mall and heard some kids talking about NS, they talked about invading the EP and unseating that Bastard Loop, I offered to aid them, got their nation names and then said well, when I get home Ill go ahead and ban you I'm Loop.

What made you decide that it was time to step down as Delegate?

I was just getting tired, exhausted, the late nights and stress and I believed that the region was established enough to be able to begin self-sufficiency

When TEP was invaded under The Empire, did you regret Gnid being your successor after what happened?

I don't regret anything, The Empire served as a wake up call, and I got to have a bit of fun at the expense of a few of folks,
and in the end justice won out.

Who is your favorite TEP Delegate?

I have to pled the 5th on that, lol,

TEP has had a lot of great players that have fully retired from NS, many of them served with you. Who do you think stands out the most to you?

Everyone, if someone has come through our doors, they are friends and family , I have unfortunately been out of the loop for too long to really make a fair answer to that question though.

Ever think about going back into the flag making business?

Sometimes, I tried to resurrect my flag email the other day but google makes it so damn hard to do that kind of stuff/ I'd probably do it again for special cases, but I need a new copy of Photoshop, my copy is outdated and won't run on my new Mac.

How does it feel to be called the Father of The [modern] East Pacific? Do you like being an idol of the region?

Well, it feels funny, internet fame and whatnot, I'M not a really outgoing type in person in meatspace, I just do my best to do what is right, as for being an idol, I try to do what is right, guide by example not force.

Did you ever think Caek would catch on like it has?

Honestly no, it started as a battle cry for my group of friends on on Phantasy Star Online back in 00/01, on the dreamcast, I played a FOneweral named Alys and we liked to run guided runs through the game for inexperienced players and we should drop money and items for new players. I have a pic somewhere of my character...

Posted Image

I just kept it and used it still, kinda a link to the past, I still feel withdrawal for that game sometimes, and long for the days of playing it, lol. I'm the one in the green. As for the current state, I'm a bit out of the loop, about its [current] use and the fish mongering.

Around NationStates

How do you feel about being commended?

I'M against the Commend and Condemn stuff, I think I even voted against my own commendation, there is just something about the system that strikes me as bad.

What do you feel is your biggest contribution to NS is?

The EP, it stands as a shining beacon to equality and freedom.

You served as Delegate with other legendary NS delegate of the time. Have any arch-enemies? Favourite NS delegate?

Arch-enemy, could be any of the people who spread lies about the old days, but probably Pope Hope, she led the biggest invader army the game ever had, the ADN, they were imperialists and bullies, and were destined to collapse, the only thing that kept them alive so long was the fact she was female, a girl gamer can rally male players to her side and her cause because gamers will do anything a woman asks, and it just takes a little work to keep it moving.

This is why Biyah and his cronies chose a female leader for The Empire, without the sheer personality of someone like Franco, they needed a female leader. However their own bad policy crushed them, imperialists are destined to fall, this is why I wanted the EP to have no military.

Favorite Delegate, I'd have to day either Franco or Ineptia, both were truly born in fire, FS in the pacific, and Ineptia in the Heartland invasion.

Outside of TEP... what what is your next favourite region? Can be Feeder/Sinker/User.

Farkistan and the Heartland.

Farkistan is the homeland of all free people of NS, it is where freedom was born, and the game changed forever.

The Heartland because it was one of the first real RP regions.

Do you have one that you don't like that much?

The defenders regions, too many have taken the false moral high ground but outwardly only. Inside they are no better than that which they claim to fight, they occupy regions for their own safety which is just a facade, they are the griefers.

Is there a player you looked up to? Retired/Active and can be from any region to a mod.

I look up to everyone who stands for justice and honesty, because it is too easy to take the bully way out, to do the right thing takes guts, and I can respect that.

This might not be a wise question. Hehe. Ever ran into a mod you did not like?

In my day most of the mods were not to be liked, they were very anti-invader, to the degree that there were mods who cheated in favor of defenders.

I learned to like some of them, but lost a lot of respect for the mod team in general when they held open election for a new mod and I was in the list and I won beating out two defenders and some RPers, then the rules were changed and it was no longer an election but a suggestion, the topic was even edited to reflect the change.

Have you ever read or do you own any books by Max Barry?

I read Jennifer Government rather liked it, never was too interested in the others, I remember when Max made the offer for ad free NS if you owned any of the books, I said I did but keep the ads it supports the site.

A Loop for Your Thoughts

In closing I just want to say how proud I am of the People of the EP, for over ten years you have persevered and stood for what is right, proving to the game as a whole that you can play the game and lead by example not by the sword, when you let what matters guide you you make the game better for everyone.

Numbers and Elections: A study by God-Emperor
Researched and written by God-Emperor

Unibot Elected Delegate In The Rejected Realms
On Tuesday, 29 April 2013 at 10:05 AM EDT, less than an hour within the writing of this article, the poll closed in The Rejected Realms. After the results are certified, Unibot, former Chief Of Band of the United Defenders League and current Media Officer of TRR, will be installed as the World Assembly Delegate of the region. He defeats CrazyGirl, former Rejected Realms Army Commander and noted Dutch Game Moderator, by a margin of 14-9 or with 64% of the vote.

However, the issue with the election hasn’t been the results, but how they came about and what is to come. Regions have threatened to close relations with TRR, if he becomes delegate, because of the status Unibot holds in their own region. Some have even implied that imperialist, like the United Imperialist Armed Forces, support Unibot’s delegacy so they can declare war on the region. Now that Unibot has been elected, the world will have to wait and see how the politics play out.

Others have strongly implied that Unibot was stuffing the ballot box, as it were, by piling new citizens into the region on his behalf. While campaigning via personal message or telegram is neither illegal nor discouraged in TRR, it appears to critics as egotistical at best and downright coercive at worst. This article will attempt to show whether or not those fears are justified.

Method
The article will evaluate two explanatory variables of TRR’s electorate: the number of posts the citizen voting had at the time the polls closed and the date the citizen first applied for citizenship. Further studies should use the number of posts the citizen posts between the acceptance of their most recent citizenship and the casting of their vote, and, as the reader may have guessed, the date the most recent citizenship was accepted.

That being said, the response variables explained by the aforementioned variables are the average constituent of CrazyGirl and Unibot, respectively, which will be represented by a mean and median within a calculated range, and the mean number of posts per day since the citizen first applied for citizenship, both of which can and will be referred to periodically throughout the remainder of this article as ‘clout,’ not to be confused with soft power or influence.

As a follow on note, both of these explanatory and response variables will be compared and contrasted to a comparable case study of similar sample size.

The Rejected Realms Election
First, the total number of posts posted by citizens voting for CrazyGirl is 7,334, and the total number of posts posted by citizens voting for Unibot is 11,647. Posts posted by citizens voting for Unibot accounted for 62% of the posts posted by citizens voting, 59% more than the number of posts posted by citizens voting for CrazyGirl. While the quality versus quantity argument cannot be answered by the data available, averages can be use to discount the effects cause by any outliers.

If the total number of posts posted by citizens voting for CrazyGirl is divided by the number of citizens voting for CrazyGirl, nine, a mean of 815 posts per citizen voting for CrazyGirl is reached, and, if the total number of posts posted by citizens voting for Unibot is divided by the number of citizens voting for Unibot, fourteen, a mean of 832 posts per citizen voting for Unibot is reached, only a 2% difference despite the 59% difference in the gross number of posts posted by citizens voting.

However, the median number of posts posted by the nine citizens voting for CrazyGirl is 633 posts posted, and the median number of posts posted by the fourteen citizens voting for Unibot is 253 posts posted, 150% less than the median posts posted by citizens voting for CrazyGirl. This change in the percentage difference between the mean number and median numbers is possibly due to curbing the effects of any outliers present in the data set, and to further examine this possibility, the range may be examined.

The range of CrazyGirl’s data set is 2203 posts posted, and the range of Unibot’s data set is 4522 posts posted, 105% more than the range of CrazyGirl’s data set, and, in light of the mean and median numbers of Unibot’s data set, fences set up in the data set using the interquartile range (IQR) can be used to show that there are statistically significant outliers in the third, or upper, quartile (Q3) of the data.

The Rejected Realms Electorate
In order to give some context to these numbers, they will now be compared to another election and electorate to explore any commonalities between the two. However, before beginning, one more data point will be introduced in an effort to further reduce any ambiguity in the conclusion of the article.

The date of citizens posting their first application for citizenship was retrieved from the citizenship application threads, and the mean number of posts posted per day since citizenship is found by dividing the total number of posts posted by the number of days since posting their first application for citizenship. This is broken down into a simple metric showing which citizens have posted at a rate of less than or equal to one post posted per day and which citizens have posted at a rate of greater than one post posted per day since applying for their citizenship.

26% of the citizens voting in the election posted at a rate of more than one post per day over the course of their citizenship and the remaining 74% posted at a rate of one post per day or less over the course of their citizenships. Of the 26% of citizens who posted at a rate of more than one post per day, 83% voted for Unibot, or 22% of the total.

Observation And Replication
With that said, The East Pacific’s November 2013 delegate election between Bachtendekuppen, Hobbes and Prussia is an adequate foil to the election in question for a number of reasons.

First, it was an open election with no incumbent delegate in the running. However, in the final analysis, Prussia, with one vote, will be excluded, as the single vote can be deemed statistically insignificant to the election, as a whole, and it has the additional bonus of avoiding any spoiler effect between the two major candidates.

Second, after also excluding the abstentions exercised by all three of the candidates, the sample is both of sufficient size and composition to compare favorable to TRR’s election with 33 votes cast and a final tally of 20-13, or 65%-35%, only a 1% difference from the election in the first case study. As an aside, abstentions will be included in the analysis of the entire electorate due to its minimal impact on the rest of the overall study.

Third, not only is the forum itself old enough to establish the date citizens first applied for citizenship, the forums are of similar age and citizenship in the modern era began at a similar time, allowing for both a similar number of posts for nations of similar age, and, as such, a similar rate of posting for citizens over the course of their citizenship. In order to further demonstrate the validity of the comparison beyond the aforementioned point, this point will be established first.

The East Pacific Electorate
Eight of the citizens voting in the election, or 24%, posted at a rate of more than one post per day over the course of their citizenship and the remaining 76% posted at a rate of one post per day or less over the course of their citizenship, only a 2% difference from the election in the first case study. Of the 24% of citizens who posted at a rate of more than one post per day, 50% vote for Bachtendekuppen or 60%of the non-abstentions, 12% and 9% of the total, respectively.

With the amazing similarity of both the electorate and the election results outlined above, the output of the explanatory variables will comprise the balance of the body of the article.

The East Pacific Election
The total number of posts posted by citizens voting for Bachtendekuppen is 18,948, and the total number of posts posted by citizens voting for Hobbes is 1,691. Posts posted by citizens voting Bachtendekuppen accounted for 89% of the posts posted by citizens voting, 1121% more than the number of posts posted by citizens voting for Hobbes.

If the total number of posts posted by citizens voting for Bachtendekuppen is divided by the number of citizens voting for Bachtendekuppen, twenty, a mean of 947 posts per citizen voting for Bachtendekuppen is reached, and, if the total number of posts posted by citizens voting for Hobbes is divided by the number of citizens voting for Hobbes, thirteen, a mean of 130 posts per citizen voting for Hobbes is reached, a 628% difference.

The median number of posts posted by the twenty citizens voting for Bachtendekuppen is 290 posts posted, and the median number of posts posted by the thirteen citizens voting for Hobbes is 23, 1161% less than the median posts posted by citizens voting for Bachtendekuppen.

The range of Bachtendekuppen’s data set is 4144 posts posted, and the range of Hobbes data set is 660 posts posted, 528% less than the range of Bachtendekuppen’s data set, and fences set up in the data set using the IQR show that there are statistically significant outliers in Q3.

Analysis
Despite the incredible congruencies between the two case studies electorates and elections, the explanatory variables seem to diverge remarkable. However, reasonable conclusions may be drawn from the data. First, it can be seen that a legitimate victor in an election is likely to have a total and mean number of posts posted by the citizens voting for them greater than the number of posts posted by the citizens voting for their opponent, which both Unibot and Bachtendekuppen had.

The discrepancy in the median number of posts posted by citizens voting for the ultimately successful candidate in the two samples may be explained by the concept of clout briefly described in the lead of this article.

Clout Explained
In the first election there were citizens with enough clout to raise the total and mean number of posts posted by the citizens voting for the successful candidate, but, in the first set of data, there were enough citizens voting for the candidate with little enough clout to drive those citizens with so much clout outside of the standard distribution.

While there are also citizens who voted for the Bachtendekuppen who were more than one standard deviation from the median in the second data set, there were the correct amounts of citizens with both a small and large amount of clout to cause an equal distribution of clout throughout the data set. This theory is borne out by the similarities of the range of Unibot and Bachtendekuppen’s two data sets in spite of the dissimilarities between their total numbers of posts posted by citizens voting for them.

Conclusion
In closing, while the numbers are not 100% conclusive, TRR’s election does not, at first glance, appear to be any more or less legitimate than TEP’s November 2013 election. While there were more members with less clout voting for Unibot than CrazyGirl, there were enough members with the proper amount that it does not, in and of itself, serve to delegitimize the election on its own. However, any future reviews of the content of the posts could manage to disprove some of the assertions made herein.
For a spread sheet containing the raw data, personal message God-Emperor in The East or West Pacific, or telegram The Fourth Imperium.

TL;DR Version

The mean voter in The Rejected Realms election had 825 posts, first applied for citizenship on 6 June 2012, and posted one post per day or less since first applying for their citizenship, and the median voter in TRR’s election had 440 posts, first applied for citizenship on 4 April 2012, and posted one post per day or less since first applying for their citizenship. The mean voter in TRR’s election voting for Unibot had 832 posts, first applied for citizenship on 20 November 2012, and posted one post per day or less since first applying for their citizenship, and the median voter voting for Unibot in TRR’s election had 253 posts, first applied for citizenship on 23 February 2013 and posted one post per day or less since first applying for their citizenship. The average voter that voted for Unibot was newer and posted less than the average voter overall, but not so much less that it invalidates the election.

Delegate Cleans Out Executive Offices: Dust Processing Sector Surges
Written by Bach

At the end last month, Puffin Delegate Bachtendekuppen, decided to put down his Banhammer for a second and take out the big broom. The age old Executive, a pile of historically build threads with barely any structure, was neatly organized in sub-forums, offices reflecting the various existing Executive services in TEP. The following subsections were born in to the light: 'Delegate's Office', 'Ministry of Foreign Affairs', 'Ministry of Culture', 'Immigration Service', 'EPSA Forum' and 'EPPS Forum'.

New are the Ministry of Culture and Education and the Immigration Service. These new departments will focus on the recruitment, orientation and education of new nations, while highlighting and organizing cultural events. New appointments for the leading positions of these departments are coming and the Executive, finally reformed after so many years, is stronger than ever.

EPSA And NPA Take Warzone Asia
Written by Xoriet

In the spirit of cooperation and promoting the proposed treaty between their GCRs, the respective militaries of the East Pacific and the North Pacific embarked on a joint operation at Thursday's (8 May) Minor update. The target region, Warzone Asia, was caught completely off guard when the combined military powers of the North Pacific and the East Pacific seized the seat of Delegate from North Campbell Nation. The natives reacted with the usual outrage when they realized that the current delegate, Masopotani, had banjected the core of their government and half of the residents of the Warzone from the region.

Hotheaded declarations of retaliation and plans for liberation on the RMB of Warzone Europe and Lazarus forums, where the government-in-exile has at present taken residency, have ultimately been stymied by the solid number of endorsements behind the EPSA Delegate. Since taking the Delegacy, EPSA and NPA have accumulated thirteen endorsements behind the Delegate alone. Further support from the ISRA, BoM, and UK has resulted in a collective total of twenty-one endorsements. The LLA was petitioned for support by the government-in-exile, but the statement of a date of withdrawal precluded attempts to liberate the region by the deposed government.

All hail TEP! All hail TNP!

Editor's note: Meanwhile, EPSA assisted in the liberation of Liberal Haven, yet again cooperating with a large number of participants.

Hobbes Commended: A New Tiger In the TEP Hall Of Commendations
Written by Bach

After 1 Infinite Loop, A Slanted Black Stripe, A Mean Old Man and Todd McCloud, yet another noteworthy TEP'er was Commended by the World Assembly Security Council. Passed by low margin, but passed nonetheless, the resolution honored the Tiger's in his short NS life. This includes all his contributions to both TEP and Lazarus, EPSA and the LLA, as well as his creation of RadioNS, the Lazarus Stock Exchange and the new .approx script for military operations.

Congratulations, Hobbes.

TEP | Commend Hobbes - A bit of a snag
Written by Vac

DISCLAIMER: Hobbes was actually in a car accident the day his commendation went to vote, and was hospitalized for about a day and his car was totalled. He agreed to make this satire article to make a joke out of the situation;

Nationstates - A liberation attempt was derailed Sunday, May 4th, when the van containing the update crew collided with another vehicle when it ran a red light on [violet] boulevard and Major Avenue, 30 seconds before the update of its intended region.

The occupant of the other vehicle, revealed as Hobbes, was cruising in his "brand new Bugatti" when the van ran the red light and collided with Hobbes, EPNS secured an exclusive interview with Hobbes from his hospital bed the next day. When asked about the vans occupants, he informed reporters that "The driver and the passenger both where wearing tights with a 'I <3 UDL' shirt tucked in, the driver had a quiver in his hair and a guitar, while the front passenger appeared to have a ton of maps and gear. He then said that he saw 'hordes of people, most in Tights and some in 70's era Soviet Officer uniforms, some with both.' exit the van, dissapointed that they had missed the update. When EPNS asked a member of the van, who spoke on condition of anonymity, why they ran the red light, he responded 'We had to rush to beat the update because our trigger sucked.'

When informed that it was infact the UDL update crew that caused his accident, hobbes went on a rampage, shouting 'NSILLUMMINNAATTITITITITITITITITITI!' as reporters where shuffled out of the room by nurses, while a doctor approached the tiger with a excessively large needle.

Delegate Nominations Started - No More Puffin Delegate
Written by Bach

The current Delegate's term, from March to July, is nearing it's regretful end. On June 1st, nominations for Delegate elections were promptly opened by Viceroy Aelitia and after until June 15 the vote will take place, ending on June 30th.

Almost immediately, a slew of people were nominated. Currently there are four candidates running: Old Federalia, Ramaeus, Hobbes and 1 Infinite Loop. The incumbent Puffin Delegate, Bachtendekuppen, has declined his nomination stating he doesn't seek a third term for reasons pertaining to RL. 1 Infinite Loop, the first ever Delegate of the Confederated East Pacific in 2003, has returned last month and now deployed a solid platform of "1000 years of pain and suffering", peaking the interest of many a TEP'er. Candidate Old Federalia has launched a platform based on his robust experiences in various official functions in TEP. Throwing his accumulated efforts as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Provost and Chancellor of the TEP University on the table, he promises to focus on more RMB involvement, education and cultural efforts, while building on the Executive system and Foreign policies currently in place.

Although slightly differently presented, candidate Ramaeus is taking an approach comparable to Old Federalia's. Ramaeus explicitly focuses on more and better communication (Skype, telegrams, RMB) and education (Mentor program), while also building on the Executive and it's Foreign policy as currently established. He's easily the candidate most active in the World Assembly, which he has emphasized together with his experience in the Directorate (Cabinet) of the incumbent Delegate.

Candidate Hobbes has launched what is certainly the most compact platform around. While currently regent in Lazarus, he builds on his previous experiences in various functions in TEP and promises to continue the Foreign policy currently set out by the TEP administration. He also promises a new focus on drawing people in, with more advertised activities and events, as well as providing more incentives to become Citizen. Furthermore, he stated to keep his platform short and rudimentary, while inviting everyone to ask questions and launch discussion, promoting involvement and engagement.

Your faithful journalist thus concludes that all candidates have some broad common grounds, while the differences are to be found in the more subtle variances of platforms and personalities. Given the long nomination and voting period, we will no doubt see these differences be deepened and substantiated throughout the campaign.

Unibot Partly Banned - Reformed Conclave Rules On Question of Jurisdiction
Written by Bach

After the suspension of Unibot's trial in March, due to him completely leaving TEP and resigning Citizenship, the question arose before the court what the actual jurisdiction of the Concordat was concerning non-Citizens and, subsequently, what the legal status of one fleeing TEP's jurisdiction would be. After long deliberation, the Conclave came to a ruling this week.

The Conclave has been recently reformed by a redraft of the procedural rules (Standing Orders of the Conclave) and the appointment of a new Arbiter and Viceroy, Aelitia. The new Viceroy has taken the reigns firmly and in addition to some organizational changes (such as a law library) the most important case before the Conclave, in terms of the application of the Concordat of TEP, was finally ruled upon.

The court rendered it's verdict in several parts, each answering a preliminary legal question before ruling on the final inquiry. Citizens, while having fled the jurisdiction, still have a right to a trial for any crimes they were charged with while still being Citizen. Furthermore, the burden of proof remains the same and the prosecution must still demonstrate the guilt of the accused. A lack of defence does not a guilty verdict make. The Conclave also ruled that non-Citizens do not have the right to a trial and subsequently fall under the Delegate's authority in-game, as well as under the administrators of any off-site services. The Concordat and it's subsequent laws however do apply to Citizens and non-Citizens of TEP alike, anywhere in TEP's jurisdiction and this jurisdiction also includes the offsite-services related to TEP, as defined in the Jurisdiction Act.

Following this ruling, the Conclave also rendered a procedural decision in the case of TEP v. Unibot. Given the fact that Unibot apparently did not comply with the warrant of arrest, which required him to re-appear before the court to finish his trial, the Conclave ruled that it had the authority to institute a partial ban to enforce the arrest warrant, restricting access to the forum until the case be re-opened. Given Unibot's position as Delegate of The Rejected Realms and his diplomatic status in TEP, an exception was made to grant him access to the parts of the forum related to The Rejected Realms' embassy.

Ramaeus Wins Delegate Elections
Written by Bach

Concluding the longest-running elections in The East Pacific in recent history, Ramaeus won the Delegacy by a 3-vote margin.[1] The EPNS congratulates the new Delegate-Elect on his win and of course wishes him a fruitful term. This election, The East Pacific electorate consisted of a stunning 44 voters, a record level turn-out. Ramaeus managed to gather 21 votes in his favor, Old Federalia 18, making for a very suspenseful election. The number of abstainers ended on 5.

Our faithful journalists, always on the look-out, managed to gather some insightful comments from various TEP Citizens strolling around the Plaza, waiting for the new Delegate's State of the Region.

"Despite slugfesting seen in no other election, Ram managed to forge, backstab, and bullshit his way to the top. He is a true model for us all.", remarked ex-Arbiter Hobbes, while Severisen joined the journalist adding that "I'm happy to see Ram won the election. I think he'll provide a fresh face and will continue the success TEP has seen under the previous delegate, Bachtendekuppen." Putting on his Pharaoh of Osiris-hat, he continued: "I look forward to working with him through the end of my term in Osiris and building the relationship between our great regions".

A few steps down the road, a slightly dazed Puffin Delegate-Emeritus was to be found, commenting "I congratulate Ramaeus on his win, after such a hard election. I'm sure TEP will continue to be as successful as it is today, under his competent abilities", while searching through the pockets of his suit, a moment later continuing to state that he would "deliver the Delegate's Office keys the moment he found them again".

Meanwhile, GE and BGP, both well-know and eminent Citizens of TEP, appeared on to the Plaza. GE could be heard screaming "Electioneering!" to our journalist when he was asked about the elections, followed by BGP's comment that "Despite million of years of intellectual evolution working against them, TEP's Cromagnon elite managed to lift their candidate above all others".

However, as soon as some market stalls selling Caek began to set up business to cater to the growing crowd, all attention for the media was inadvertently lost.

Congratulations Ramaeus, and hail TEP!

EPNS Exclusive: The Empire Returns!
Interview of Dali (Lady Anastasia) by Xoriet

<Sev> Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to EPNS Live, an extension of the Eastern Pacific News Service, Edited by Bachtendekuppen! Tonight we have Dali, member of the Empire, and long term NS player. Running the interview tonight is Xoriet Montresor, staff writer for EPNS. We're very excited for the opportunity to bring you this interview tonight, and without further ado, I'll turn it over to Xoriet!

---

Dali waves, and smiles to the crowd

<Xoriet> Thank you, Sev. Welcome to EPNS Live, Dali. We're glad to have you here.

<Dali> It's great to be here.

<Xoriet> So tonight we have an array of questions put together by members of the East Pacific. The first part of these questions pertains to the Empire's coup. The latter part trends to the miscellaneous.

Dali pours himself a drink and lights up a smoke

<Xoriet> Was couping the East Pacific something that was decided on by the whole group, or was the idea suggested by one individual?

<Dali> Basically, TEP and all operations done under 'The Empire' banner if you will are consensus decisions. I know this may be a tad hard for some to understand, given their perception of The Empire, but we are a surprisingly egalitarian and consensus-based organization when it comes to the top rank. 99% of decisions require all of the main people in Empire to support said decision, including going after The East Pacific in late 2008. We had scoped it out previously, and all of us felt that it was a good target.

<Xoriet> Were there other regions considered during this time?

<Dali> At that particular period of time? TWP and TNP were previously couped by members who now form The Empire. The Pacific has always been regarded as a hard-to-get coup that maybe one day we can go for, but when we were looking at the immediate future, we found that TEP was by far the most likely to be taken by anyone. There were others who were going after TEP in the same time-frame, because Gnidrah was a very inactive Delegate who simply did not heed warnings. Remember, TEP was always regarded as more isolationist than the rest of the GCRs, except when it came to the NPO/PRP. Post-Loop, and during Gnid's reign, that complete lack of involvement in the world contributed. But, it was much more than that. Everything in TEP at that point seemed wanting for change. Everything.

<Xoriet> Well, you certainly gave it quite a few changes that left an impression. Did this arise from the Gatesville Conference back in 2007?

Dali smiles

<Dali> Funny enough, Gatesville and I absolutely did not get along during that time period. There's always talk about couping regions, and that was part of the reason why Westwind couped with me in TNP during Crimson Order. However, the main reason why we couped was to test out the theory that Minnow Delegates simply could not coup. We wanted to prove that activity and a successful coup can happen in the GCRs with Influence. We held it for four months, and with the exception of the NPD, I believe we are the longest lasting "coup" (unless you want to be old school and claim the NPO). Gatesville contributed, but they were not the main force behind Empire. Same with those regions we now designate "Imperialist".

<Xoriet> Would you have considered approaching TEP prior to the invasion to see if the Empire could work with TEP to make an active region?

<Dali> Oh, we in a sense did. I was a Magister in TEP prior to the coup, and this was before we even considered couping TEP. Thing is, there was nothing going on in the region. For me, it was to provide a bolt of electricity to the heart of the region, in order to provide some activity for TEP then. We did not see the government of the day under Gnidrah as meeting those needs for TEP. It needed something drastic, which we provided. And now look at TEP. They're active. They're doing well.

<Xoriet> Indeed we are. So, during the takeover there was some confusion as to what was going on in TEP. Which regions bought your propaganda the quickest?

<Dali> Heh. We certainly did not do well with the GCRs right off the bat. We had declared war on all feeders/sinkers at the get-go. Our main allies were in the Imperialist sphere. Going along, TWP was sympathetic to us, and we had almost signed a proper treaty for them, and would have got it through in TWP had it not been for their inept First Minister/Delegate, The Faeyas. Oh, and can't forget how some defenders assisted us both in the lead-up and occupation. Some of them were wonderful to helping us know what was going on in the defender sphere.

<Dali> Drink, dear?

<Xoriet> Alcoholic or non?

<Dali> What do you think?

<Xoriet> Non, I'd assume.

<Dali> I do have some of the good stuff in the back.

<Xoriet> Maybe a bit later.

<Dali> More for me, then!

<Xoriet> Enemies and allies considered, what was the hardest part of fully taking over the region in your opinion?

<Dali> The first three main updates. Easily the hardest. Once you can hold it for three updates, then you're over the hump. If you go at it too strong, like say WPD, then you can fall at the first update. If you know how to play it safe yet keep your side secure, then you can hold on for the first three major updates. From there, you're able to start actually planning what you want to do from there-on, the "Why did we coup? What are we going to do now?" Also, keeping up aliases during a coup is a hard yet rewarding experience.

<Xoriet> I hear that you managed to keep yours hidden fairly well.

<Dali> I was actually one of the more speculated identities. We pulled all the stops to keep me hidden for as long as we wanted. Thing is, folks either believed that Lady Anastasia was actually played by a female (I'm a dude), or that Gov was Lady Anastasia. Or other theories. A lot of work was put into keeping not just me, but others, secret. And a bunch of them are still secret.

<Xoriet> On that topic, what roles did your individual members serve while in TEP? More specifically, what did each member contribute while controlling the region?

<Dali> For The East Pacific, we had an Imperial Council. Similar to a Cabinet in most GCRs, but it did hold advisors who specialized in their own particular brands. Nee (Lady Phedre) is our Empress, our front-line gal who is our public face who can organize us and hit hard if needed. Biyah was Intel/Security and attack dog. I'm sure that is no surprise to many. I function as foreign affairs/security, given my experience. NK is and was one of the best propagandists in the game, and he and I would work a lot together. There have been others in the Imperial Council who handled Culture (such as Lady Edea), Defence, the religious aspect of the Empire (Zorn-Uzkul, who is Nee's RL hubby, did that), and others. We functioned as a regular government, albeit one which was more regarded as "evil".

Dali lights another cig

<Xoriet> What was your favorite moment out of the entire duration of the occupation of TEP?

<Dali> I guess I'd have to say when I unmasked. It was a messy process, as I was serving as Delegate of Equilism then. Yet, we had already gone through a month and a half or so of anonymity, and we were expecting people to finally figure us out. They were getting close, but not close enough. To say that I was Lady Anastasia to the world was quite fun. That being said, it did eliminate my contacts in TEP Gov't at the time, when I was double-timing both being Lady Anastasia and Dalimbar the Magister. But by then, it was not an issue, as there was little they could do there.

Xoriet takes a moment to assume a mildly scandalized expression, then returns to business

Dali smiles

<Xoriet> We have a particular question from Todd McCloud here: "I remember certain members underwent a cleansing ceremony. Which one was the funniest?"

Dali grins

Xoriet pauses to regard Dali with mild alarm

<Dali> So, for context, Cleansing Ceremonies were a sort of RP application to become a Citizen of TEP Empire. We regarded TEP as being 'Purified.’ We had a whole religion based around it, which was appropriated by the current TEP RPs for a bit. To become part of 'Nobility', and we did not know who you were, you have to be 'Cleansed'. Of course, there were plenty of spies who wanted to join in. And they would work the hardest. God bless them, they do try to work hard at pleasing those they wish to spy upon. I'm not going to name the one individual who amuses me the most from Cleansing, but he really did try hard. Quite an active poster, quite an active contributor. Of course, we kept an eye on him, and had him sent to the Watery Pit of Hell.

<Xoriet> The Watery Pit of Hell? Sounds....delightful.

<Dali> Oh, it is! Akin to a prison or a gulag or a dungeon, just on the bottom of the ocean with the Goddess. But yeah. It was always amusing to have spies working on us.

<Xoriet> Nice.... Now, Dali, we come to the most serious question so far. What was your liquor of choice during the occupation period?

Dali tops up his drink

<Dali> Rum. Easily rum. Plenty of it, with coke. I don't think I'd have survived without a stiff drink in that time.

<Xoriet> Rum is, as ever, a very good choice of drink.

<Dali> It's the best. I grew up in TNP in the GCRs, and acquired the taste from there.

<Xoriet> Rum is to TNP as Caek is to TEP?

<Dali> People coup TNP for their rum.

<Xoriet> Rum is clearly a very serious drink.

<Dali> UDL tried giving me their Whiskey, but wasn't enough for TNP Rum.

<Xoriet> What is your opinion on Puffin Scotch?

<Dali> That is a fine drink. A very appropriate drink for TEP. Calming, yet strong. Not a drink where you feel the need to coup after having a swig.

<Xoriet> Clearly Bach has done a superb job dimming any urges to coup in TEP citizens.

Xoriet gifts complimentary special Puffin Scotch to Dali

<Dali> I think Bach did a great job as Del, and I look forward to Ram's Delegacy. I know that plenty of people in TEP have some feelings that Empire will come back, but I feel that TEP is on the right track.

Xoriet motions away the excess security >.>

Dali snickers

<Dali> While I have this opportunity, I would like to just say this: The East Pacific does not have anything to fear from The Empire while it continues on a pro-activity and pro-regional development policy.

<Xoriet> Thank you, Dali. Looking back at the operation, what are some things you would have done differently?

<Dali> For the most part, I'm really proud of what we did in TEP. I'm really proud of doing what very few others have been able to do, and that is to coup and hold onto a GCR for an extended period of time. For my own self, I perhaps would say that we should have toned down on the "War against All Feeders" attitude, as that didn't help us later on in the game. And there's the Faeyas being inept thing, which really pissed me off. I had worked on a very equitable agreement between TEP and TWP, a partnership arrangement where we would recognize their sovereignty and them recognize ours, yet Fae being Fae was a horrid salesperson.

<Xoriet> That must have been more than a little frustrating. What are the most significant changes that you believe have taken place in TEP since the natives took control of the region?

<Dali> Activity.TEP is an active and proud region now, which I'm glad to see. They do their own thing, which is great. They are able to construct their own identity for themselves. They allow no one to dictate to them how to do things. That is what I want to see all GCRs doing. Allowing no one to dictate their policies.

<Xoriet> If you were involved in The East Pacific today, which faction do you think you'd be: Caek, Pi, or Fishmonger?

<Dali> Caek ftw. I <3 caek, especially cheesecaek.

Dali kills for that shit

<Xoriet> Caek is an absolutely integral part of TEP.

<Dali> CAEK GET!!!!!!!!!!11111one

<Xoriet> Loopian style.

<Dali> He was Del for most of my young NS career.

<Xoriet> On the subject of GCRs, which region do you feel that in your NS career has been the closest to a home for you?

<Dali> Hmm. Recently, from 2011-just recently, I would have said Osiris. It was my home. It was where I belonged. We made that place a place of second (or third) chances. We had a great run there, and as much as the OFO can be irritating to watch, I wish Sev well there.

<Xoriet> We all do. Sev has been an absolutely spectacular Pharaoh. Which is your favorite regional government theme in the GCRs? The UCRs?

<Dali> As I'm sure many of your viewers know, I used to come from RLA. So, the current Lazarus structure is wonderful. I wish Funk the best as Delegate of Lazarus, now that he has the Delegacy. I don't have exactly a favourite UCR theme, as I regard them all mostly as parasites on the GCRs.

<Xoriet> What are some changes to NS that you would like to see?

<Dali> Elimination of Influence. Sorry, I know that won't happen, but I really would like to show many of you how pre-Influence worked in the GCRs. I am looking forward to the Regional Officers idea. Sadly, I wasn't involved in those discussions, but I would like to see how ROs would work out in the GCRs.

<Xoriet> I would feel terribly sorry for some of the presently occupied regions.

<Dali> Such as Anarchy? Indeed. I am glad that defenders have asked me to help out returning that region to their native community. Even it if hasn't worked out so far.

<Xoriet> What is your rating on all the regional coups you have participated in thus far, on a scale ranging from 'Amazing' to 'Nightmarish?'

<Dali> All? Darling, you know I have too many to list. Double-teaming as a Leader of the TNP Gov't-in-exile and talking to NK who was talking to Emperor Matthuis was painful, except that partly was because we wanted Emperor Matthuis to fail. Which he did. I'd also say one of the Eli coups, involving a Committee-structure of government, was also painful. Helping JAL coup is always entertaining yet not. Where I am more-or-less in control of the coup is always the better option for me. And for others.

<Xoriet> It sounds as if that would certainly be the case. What is the funniest native resistance you have encountered during your coups?

<Dali> I think one of the more "wtf are they doing" was when Flemingovia and Eluvatar were advising TEPers on how to resist us. Flem had made up this example of a native African means of organizing a resistance movement. It was great, but, did not suit the theme of the old EP government at the time. I know he wanted to feel like he was exporting counter-coups to TEP based on his experience, yet, did it poorly. Or, I guess, Georgie missing in Osiris. I honestly did not expect to wake up and be Delegate of Osiris again. I literally said, when I found out in the morning "For fuck sake, Georgie." Then had to hold it without doing anything for 12 hours. That was more bothersome than anything.

<Xoriet> What is your favorite Empire conspiracy theory?

<Dali> Does Mallimbar count? I love that one right now.

<Xoriet> That counts. Explain to our viewers the truth that is "Mallimbar."

<Dali> I'll get to my actual answer in a sec, then :P

<Dali> While Mall was visiting Venico and Koth a couple weekends ago, Ven told Mall that he both looked and sounded like me. Mall and I had to test out this theory, using the power of Skype. At the time we skyped, he was a proto-type of me, had longer hair and not quite as full as a beard as me, but otherwise, I could have given him my Canadian passport and he'd be good. From what I know now, he got a haircut, so, that'd help with the Mallimbar thing. My real answer to your question is the one theory that Todd is a long-term Empire plant in TEP. Or Escade being Nee. Those two are pretty high up there for me. Both of those are complete and utter bullshit, despite the fact I would have like those to happen.

<Xoriet> On a similar note....What is your favorite Empire coup joke?

<Dali> Empire coup joke? Please, share with the audience :P

Dali whispers to his minion that he needs another drink

<Xoriet> Empire minion! How did they get past the security??

<Dali> We're good :)

Dali finds a new drink on his table, compliments of his minion

<Dyr is now known as TheMinion>

<Xoriet> Answering your question, an Empire coup joke consists of one of you pinning...

Xoriet sighs

<Xoriet> I should have known, Dyr.

<TheMinion is now known as Dyr>

<Xoriet> -a person who is not a member of Empire as a high-influence Empire member and stating that they will be next to coup.

<Dali> Then you, my dear. :) Sev also joined Mallimbar, so Osiris will have to deal with him. But you, Xor. I won't coup TEP if Ram and then you are Delegates.

<Xoriet> Are you speaking individually or for Empire on this one?

<Dali> As the most senior member of Empire currently on line, I believe that we have other priorities than TEP.

<Xoriet> I have no issue with this.

<Dali> Unless TEP wishes to go down a paranoid and xenophobic attitude, which will be addressed at that point.

<Xoriet> (No)
<Xoriet> Winding down to a close, we have the last few questions. Are there any people today that you think would have been fun additions to Empire?

<Dali> Plenty. I have met some really great people in NS since 2009. I don't believe they'd appreciate me naming names, however.

<Xoriet> And, lastly, does Empire still operate as an organization?

<Dali> As a governing organization? No. Despite the crack-pot theories, what we had in TEP was not the same in Osiris. It held many of the same people, but it was not Empire. To suggest that is only propaganda, pure and simple. As a place where people from the older times can meet, chat, talk about what is needed in the game and decide how to do what we want? Absolutely. Empire is not an organization, per se, but is a movement of what people want to see.

<Xoriet> Hmm, there go my plans to ask if you care to divulge your next big operation for the benefit of the audience.

<Dali> I'd have to spin the wheel for that. Anyone have a wheel on them?

<Xoriet> That's actually not a bad idea. Can we borrow yours, or should we use Tammy's feature in Spiritus?

<Dali> Tammy is more fun.

<Xoriet> Go with Tammy.

<Dali> [20:58:42] <Dali> .coup
<Dali> [20:58:43] <Tammy> Let's coup Balder.

<Dali> I guess Balder.

<Xoriet> Oh my. My condolences to NES and Rach.

<Dali> Thing is, despite their actions against me in game, I like them. So, this could be hard for me.

<Xoriet> I'm sure they will understand that it was nothing personal.

<Dali> I hope so.

<Xoriet> Thank you for agreeing to this interview, Dali.

Executive Appointment Circus: Boost In Mandates
by Bach

Following our latest Delegate elections, a new dance of positions has been initiated by the fresh TEP-Delegate Ramaeus. First things first, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs might be, after the Delegate's Office itself, one of the most important departments of the Executive. Former Minister Old Federalia resigned his post and former EPPS-Commissioner God-Emperor was selected as the new Minister of FA. A rather new, but not less exciting department, was the Immigration Service, now renamed to the Immigration Ministry and with Tim Montresor appointed as new Minister. Tim has also been nominated as Commissioner of the EPPS. Bachtendekuppen -yours truly- has been confirmed as Editor of the EPNS, while Xoriet (EPSA General) and Vac(Minister of Culture and Education) have stayed in place.

A more complicated case was the TEP University. Initially appointed by Delegate Ramaeus, BGP resigned his Chancellor position shortly afterwards, stating there wasn't much public support for the UTEP while Executive Ministries have taken over much of his tasks. However, the Delegate refused his resignation and the Magisterium is currently consulting to enact and enable major reform of the UTEP with a complete 'blank sheet' approach. To be continued.

The new Directorate (All Executive leaders) is now compromised as follows: Ramaeus, Xoriet, God-Emperor, Tim, Vac, Bachtendekuppen and BGP.

Magisterium Rebooted: No Magister Left Behind
By Bach

The Magisterium, lately enjoying a small sort of break because of Delegate elections and reasons, now has retrieved the keys to it's hallowed halls. Since the start of July, Provost elections have taken place and God-Emperor has taken the reigns over this ancient institution, previously been Deputy-Provost for a while. Since then, changes to the Standing Orders have been proposed, various appointments processed, discussions regarding the Criminal Code, Jurisdiction Act, Education Act, and a Town hall have been (re)started while new Provost GE has initiated the first roll-call in quite some time.

Our reporter, camouflaged and with strong telephoto lenses, will keep us posted on any new movements.

New Viceroy Aelitia: Conclave at Full Steam
by Bach

With new Viceroy Aelitia, now joined by new Arbiters Bachtendekuppen and Xoriet, the Conclave is moving at a blistering speed. Not only has the Conclave established new and up-to-date Standing Orders of the Conclave, a giant reform not seen in years and instituting a complete trial procedure, including possibilities for filing appeals, but these new rules have also been complemented by both a Conciliation Panel on Citizenship (via the Viceroy Memorandums), new informative threads for easy understanding of procedure and the Conclave, Rules of Evidence and even forms to file lawsuits and review requests. Law in TEP is easy as never before.

The buck however doesn't stop here. We also have a new law library in the Conclave, containing all necessary information on court procedure, forms and important legal precedents. Following these radicals reforms, some Arbiters have reportedly been attached to breathing machines, not handling the shock very well. Viceroy Aelitia, whatever pills he might use, sure has ushered in a new era of TEP law.

EPSA Strikes: 109 Operations In One Week

Last week, between August 17 and August 22, EPSA accomplished a record high in it's history of operations and detagged 109 regions. While The Black Riders saw much of their embassies disappear in a glowing page of red closures, TEP toasted to the skillful actions of their army and it's stellar General, Xoriet. Magister British Grand Pacific saw fit to honor this by proposing a resolution to commend Erelim General Xoriet in the Magisterium, which was received happily and has currently moved to a vote.

When one looks at some additional numbers, the picture only becomes more vivid and appeasing. Besides the detags, EPSA also helped defending Portugal this week, in addition to liberating Vermont earlier this month as well as supporting operations against Anarchy by several Defender organizations. All combined, EPSA performed 115 operations this month. After crunching some numbers, this puts EPSA on a total number of operations of 188 since Xoriet took command 5 months ago. Some might say an army needs ideology and drama, but it turns out it just needs to be TEP's to succeed. Nor Raider, nor Defender, but entirely it's own beast. EPSA continues to show the way.

Sinker War Or Sinker Silliness?

In what reads as a political comedic drama of Shakespearean proportions, the relations between Sinkers Osiris and Lazarus have fallen to a new low. While exchanges between the two regions were already at the temperature of slowly melting icecaps since the inception of the People's Republic, recent events have lead to a state of, de facto, war. While Lazarus tried to host a new conference on GCR Sovereignty, labelled by some as an attempt to single out Imperialists and spread Lazarus' Defender influence, Pharaoh Cormac decided on war and a vote was introduced to the Deshret. In response to the threat of war, Lazarus seems to have decided to clean out the house and change forums, ditching TEP Citizen Hobbes as Root and Admin of their forum.

While undoubtedly both regions have contributed to this chain of events over time, one can question whether all this is so much over ideological differences rather than internal trouble in Lazarus. The decommissioning of the current forum without any explanation offered to the Citizenry, as well as ongoing radicalization in foreign affairs, unilateral changes to the constitution and rather unclear communications from the People's Republic of Lazarus' government seem to indicate that the stern foundations of the region created by Milograd are being thoroughly tested. After Osiris last year, it seems Lazarus is in danger of a volatile future.

While The East Pacific's government hasn't officially reacted yet, it is allied to both regions, and expectations are that it will try to adhere to both treaties and remain neutral in the political conflict. TEP has long stood for reasonable and mature politics and friendly relations between all Game Created Regions, both Osiris and Lazarus included.

TRR's Delegate on TEP Rampage: Roads Closed Temporarily

Early Sunday night, still noon for some, depending which side of the world has your favour, South Pacific peace came to an abrupt end. Cosily habituating the TSP IRC channel, people barely believed their own eyes when a presumed important official began enlightening a civil discussion with heavy cursing, insulting comments and overall fiery prose. No less than TRR's Delegate, Unibot, saw fit to start insulting Todd Mccloud and, while the effort was being made anyway, the whole of TEP's population. Especially those who had the nerve being present in a brother-Pacific's IRC. Go figure.

Despite these slurs not being necessary, they were uttered and some of the TEP'ers came to Todd's defence. Chaos ensued, until some moderators, most notably Raven and Asta, interfered and cleared the channel of the discussion. Apologies were issued by TEP'ers for the disturbance in TSP's channel and some moments later, a 48-hour ban against TRR Delegate Unibot was enforced by the Moderators. Todd McCloud, being a Moderator himself, recused himself from the vote. Later on, a message would be posted in TEP's Embassy on the TRR forum, concerning these events. So far, the reaction of other TRR officials seems to be to condemn the actions of their Delegate, but ensure these actions are in no way representative of general TRR policy or perception of TEP.

Not being satisfied with this, TRR decided to revoke TEP's posting rights in it's own Embassy on TRR's forum. You heard it here first folks: embassies in TRR are not meant to be used for official statements.

Citizenship Audit - Hide Your Assets Now

Tremble in fear, you're all being reviewed! The audit is being undertaken by the Ministry for Culture and Education, more specifically by Big Grand Pacific, the Minister himself. The Audit has been started in light of recent Magisterium activity concerning legislation against voter fraud. In need of accurate data and Citizenship lists, BGP took on this huge task.

Several lists of Citizenships have been compiled, based on latest known activity. For those of you interested in more details and/or reviewing the reports themselves, have a look here.

Magisterium: Crude Awakenings

Last weekend, the always rational and calmly philosophizing Magisterium was shaken by an outburst of sudden Provost action. All legislative proposals abandoned or dropped in the latest weeks have been motioned to vote by Provost God-Emperor. These moves were made in an effort to 'clear the house': after weeks of mulling over things, positions had to be taken and legislation had to fail or succeed.

Some of the acts and bills involved are the Distinctions and Definitions Act, An Act Against Voter Fraud and Inactivity, Vizier's Congress Act, 'On Appointments', 'On EPPS Investigations' and the Revision of the Eastern Pacific Sovereign Army Act.

Want to take a sneak peak? Watch the chaos here.

Milestones Mark Mighty Military

Recently, Eastern Pacific Sovereign Army General Xoriet was commended by the magisterium for her accomplishments during her Generalcy, as previously reported by EPNS. As of the minor update on October 5, EPSA has completed 235 missions under her guidance. Xoriet became general of EPSA 192 days ago, and has kept EPSA active 149 of those days--an activity rate of nearly 78%--which has drummed up interest in joining the military for people in TEP and and abroad.

When asked what the secret to her success was, General Xoriet commented that "The Eastern Pacific Sovereign Army is composed of some of the most professional people in the R/D field not already in other established militaries and organizations. Success is achieved through our members, and I am more than honored to have every single one of them in the EPSA."

One interesting aspect of the EPSA, and perhaps a secret to some of its success, is that membership in foreign militaries is prohibited. This helps ensure that its members' loyalties are not divided, and conflicts of interest do not arise. On the topic of professional people in the R/D field, this has been both domestic and imported. Some members of the EPSA joined as their first exposure to military gameplay. Others have had years of experience in other organizations and have been drawn to the EPSA for one reason or another. The balance of these two factions make a blend of membership that, as they might say in One Infinite Loop, "just works."

In other news, Prussia has been promoted from Sergeant to Lieutenant. EPNS would like to offer its sincere congratulations to Lieutenant Prussia! We look forward to the great things he, and the rest of the EPSA, will accomplish going forward. Onward and Upward!

Osiris Elections Conclude

On October 4, the elections for Pharaoh of Osiris concluded. Elections were run a month earlier than expected due to the resignation of Cormac A. Stark on September 27th. According to the State Code, this triggers an immediate election. Several candidates were nominated and ultimately stood for Pharaoh including Joshua Bluteisen, Hileville, War Wombat, Nox, Alexa Fominov, Zaolat, and Durkadurkiranistan. At the end of the 3 day voting period, the Joshua Bluteisen received 14 votes, War Wombat received 2 votes, Zaolat received one vote, and the remaining candidates did not receive votes. EPNS sincerely congratulates Osiris on running a fair election and Joshua Bluteisen for being elected Pharaoh of the Osiris Fraternal Order.

Pharaoh Bluteisen proceded to present his nominations for his cabinet, known as the Hedjet. For Vizier and Scribe of Foreign Affiars, he presented Treize Dreizehn, who served both of those roles under previous Pharaoh, Cormac A. Stark. As Scribe of Justice, Bluteisen has nominated Romic, a relatively new face to Osiris, but someone with whom Bluteisen has worked in the past. For Scribe of War and Marshal General of the Sekhmet Legion, Bluteisen will retain the services of Vaculatestar. Similarly, the Scribe of Security, Severisen, has been asked to serve a second term in this role. Two additional new faces, though not new to Osiris, will be joining Romic as scribes pending confirmation in the Deshret. Serving as Scribe of Media will be Andrew, and Scribe of Culture will be War Wombat. The cabinet has a lot of promise and so far the support has been almost unanimous for all nominations, with the exception of one.

The nomination for Treize as Vizier has caused some controversy among the Deshret, and has even prompted former Pharaohs Joshua Ravenclaw and Cormac A Stark to address the Deshret with permission of the Keeper, Vaculatestar. In their speeches, they reminded Osiris of Treize’s history of Osiris, pre-OFO, as well as the potential dangers of allowing a nation to garner the influence that Treize has gained. Cormac also urged that a new face be put in this position as a way of sustaining the OFO beyond the founders and members who have consistently been serving and building the OFO since its inception. As a compromise, Treize has offered to resign his WA, high influence nation, The Dourian Embassy, and use a fresh, influence-free puppet to serve the role of Vizier. Severisen has been selected as the trusted member of Osiris to maintain the puppet outside of the region for the duration of Treize’s term as Vizier should this deal be accepted by the Pharaoh. Nomination voting will begin any day, and the Deshret votes on each nomination separately. EPNS will continue to follow this story as it develops. We wish the new Hedjeti, pending confirmation, a successful term with Pharaoh Bluteisen.

Job Opening At The Magisterium

Since october 11th, Provost nominations have been opened in the Magisterium. The incumbent Big Bad Hodad of the Magisters, God-Emperor, outlined the Standing Orders of the Magisterium and invited candidates to be nominated. Thus far, Prussia and God-Emperor have been nominated and accepted. Provosts serve terms of 3-months, leading the Magisterium, administrating the votes and representing the Legislative branch as a whole to the Executive and Judicial, as well as to the region.

Being one of the 'big three', besides the Delegate and Viceroy, a Provost has a major impact on regional organisation and activity. The Magisterium as a cradle of democracy, debate, interaction and overall activity has always served as one of prime and fundamental parts of TEP's governance.

Candidate-Provosts, good luck!
