I've sent this questionnaire out to several current and recent delegates of GCRs. I'm trying to get a sense how people perceive the inhabitants of GCRs. If anyone else would like to offer their responses, I'm interested to hear what you all think. Thanks, in advance, for any help you can offer. Please let me know if you have any questions. By number or percentage, how would you describe the distribution of nations in your region? (Note: these are overlapping categories, so some nations will be counted more than once.) 1. Participants in your regional forum 2. WA Nations 3. Nations who only answer issue questions and do not participate in the forum 4. Puppets 5. Defenders 6. Raiders 7. Contribute to the regional RMB 8. Spam the regional RMB 9. Other categories you think are important to note (please specify) Also, if you are a cosmopolitan type with involvement in several GCRs and would like to comment on others, please feel free to add more information. |

I'm working on a topic I've been asked to discuss for the Fair. Part of that topic has to do with how GCRs perceive their regions. There is no hidden agenda. GCRs are big places and thousands of nations do not participate in the regional forum, so who do you think those nations are? It is personally interesting to me. As many people know, I spent 3+ years as a nation that answered issues and did not participate in the forum. I know my own story, but I wonder how all of us perceive those nations who rarely speak. From an RP standpoint I view these as nations with internal issues that preclude them from overly involving themselves in regional affairs. Either through lack of resources or staunch isolationism they do not want to be involved in the greater picture. From a gameplay standpoint these players may see the issues as the only things that directly effect their nation in a measurable fashion. In a real sense RMP and the Forums do nothing for a nation in Nation States. These players are playing the game paired down to the most basic level. Probably coming in to answer issues compare standings with other nations and maybe vote on WA issues. From a mechanical view their is also the habit of players to create more then one nation to see what different issue answers does to a nation. Thousands of nations may be only hundred of players or even less. For myself, simply answering issues is interesting but not as deep as I would want a game to be. Standing separate from the issues the forums and RMP allows for more meaningful interaction for me. Without them I would prolly not last long playing here. Alacrity |

Thanks for your comments. Given that, I am curious about your perception of the distribution of the region. How would you describe the distribution of nations in TEP?

I think the use of "raider" and "defender" terms is used to perpetuate a neutralist's myth - there are thousands of defenderists and probably hundreds of raiderists, very few players are "neutrals" and these people are overrrepresented in government and in the gameplay elite. Simply because people do not actively invade or defend, does not mean they are not "neutral". 1.Participants in your regional forum: 1% 2.WA Nations: 10% ? 3.Nations who only answer issue questions and do not participate in the forum: 99% 4.Puppets: 60% ? 5.Defenders: 0.01% 6.Raiders: 0.005% 7.Contribute to the regional RMB: 1% 8.Spam the regional RMB: 2% Edited by unibot, Dec 31 2013, 05:40:57 PM.
