Committee for Roleplay

Purpose:
Our roleplay has in the past defined us as a region. Countless participants have shaped the in-character universe that is The East Pacific Roleplay. This committee will attempt to bring in all current and aspiring roleplayers to The East Pacific for the purpose of re-vamping our roleplay, making it active, easier to join, and better at integrating new nations into our system. As there are a number of changes for potential discussion, it is expected and therefore highly recommended that committee members attempt to include as many roleplayers as possible.

Potential points of discussion:
  • A "soft reset" has been tossed around as an idea. What does this mean, and is it needed?
  • Connecting our new members to our current system - possibly making better connectivity with OOC discussion?
  • Maps - ironing out disputed claims / territories and updating the map in general
  • New roleplay ideas, especially character development or diplomacy ideas
  • Establishing an across-the-board tech?
  • Roleplay officers to act like impartial referees if there are disputes?
  • Work with the forum organization committee if there needs to be organization to the roleplay sections?

Participants:
All roleplayers, both current and aspiring, in The East Pacific.

Leaders:
(To be selected over the coming 1-2 days.)

Timeframe:
From now until November 20, 2016, or sooner if the committee comes to a resolution sooner

End Goal:
The committee will present any and all changes to the roleplay section of The East Pacific. These agreed-upon changes will be initiated and installed by whatever group is needed (forum administration, etc)

I think that engines should be limited to chemical combustion and nuclear piles, with ion engines being sorta the cutting edge.

Vekaiyu / The Vekaiyun Union is mostly MT except for a few aspects, namely:

1. Holographic computers
2. Urban Missile Defense System (basically large towers near cities charged with shooting a missile out of the sky prior to entering city zones)
3. The large magnetic ship they recently built
4. Some aquatic innovations mentioned briefly in The International Sealab.
5. Limb replacements if missing.
6. Light tanks which shoot laser-like beams (only a few built).

That's about all I can think of right now. I really only see 2, 3, and 6 being potentially clashing - the rest are rather harmless.
I take it as wanting to stay within the realm of MT/very early PMT right?

Thank you Todd for responding. :)
I'm trying to. If there's anything people want me to change / alter, I am willing to do it, though I do have proper backstories for these things.

Engines as in jet aircraft propulsion?

Pax is a weird mix of MT/PMT the biggest PMT influences are-

* The Hive originates from space. It is an offshoot of a greater Hive that hasn't discovered Sol/Urth yet. I use this as an excuse to keep the Pax from moving outwards. I also imagine EM would have acted as a huge counterwieght as they arrived at roughly the same time. EM/Pax having treaties barring the militarization of the Sol system.

* The Hive itself. While I could probably get away with some hand waving, there isn't really a way to have the Hive exist without PMT...

* I have already scaled back most of the Pax's military tech. Particle cannons would be rare, and would probably violate multiple treaties with EM. Pax does have tungsten rods orbiting that would act as WMDs. Most of the "Laser/Particle" weaponry has been retconned and replaced with railguns.

* Drone augments. Tradtionally, drones have been heavily cyberneticized. I have backed off from this in recent years, and don't mind toning this back a lot.

Right now, I am debating between 3 ideas for Pax RP in the future.

1: Retconning almost everything, and reforming into a Pax Caliphate. Essentially, it would be as if the Hive never came. I am leery of this one, as I have spent over a decade nurturing the Hive.

2: Moving to the moon, and haveing the current Pax Urth territory become unihabitable wastes, either through Pax previous actions catching up, war, or something else. This would mostly solve the PMT issue if TEP goes mostly MT. It would let the Pax be a looming threat, without being right on everyone's borders. I am at a loss as to WHY the Pax would move to the moon though...

3: Contnue as usual, possibly asking for exceptions to RP standards. I hate to be a special snowflake/Mary Sue, but rewriting 10 years of history would be an insane amount of work really...

hello, Again
Could someone kindly explain the acronyms PMT / MT? Apologies. I'm new.

I'm curious how much influence a nation's statistics on-site exert over roleplay capabilities. As the ruler of a nation with a struggling economy and quickly deteriorating political freedoms, I'm concerned I may overextend an already thinly spread and technologically inferior military in an effort to compete or defend.

Is it as simple as saying "I have robots", or do I need to back that up with national statistics?

(Please refer me to any relevant FAQs if these are simple questions.)

MT = Modern Tech. So, like what is currently in our world of smart phones, stealth, little to no AI, and clunky space ships. This is usually capped at +10 years and below. So, for instance, on-the-horizon technologies are sometimes allowed here.

PMT = Post Modern Tech. Allows for some futuristic stuff, but has modern ties. Sort of like how we'd imagine the world 50-100 years from now, typically.

FT - Future Tech. Far future (usually), with many technological advancements. Think like Star Wars, Jetsons, Fifth Element, that sort.

Hey! My nation consists of tribal people's who use mostly primitive technology, is it possible for Averrhoa Carambola to be included in the RP? I have a lot of ideas for mixing things up, as a new player in this aspect of the game!

Okay, since the topic of tech level has come up. Many RP'ers such as the Pax, Dragonia, Vekaiyu, South Hills, and whatnot use PMT levels.

I'm wanting to ask everyone if they are willing to use PMT technology or something of the sort. One of the ideas kicking around is that the Pax would move to the Moon and establish a base there. From there it could become a serious interplanetary war brewing with various whatnots happening on Urth and the Moon.
Actually, Dragonia is mostly MT with I think only a few that could be construed as PMT.

Dragonian Tech

1 Solar Power Generators
2 Quad-Metal Alloy
3 Crystalline Osmium Glass

4 Grand Ducal Naval Ship Drachenberg: This large Trimaran Aircraft Carrier is the pride of the small fleet that Dragonia has. The GDNS Drachenberg's hull is made out of the Quad-Metal Alloy, the windows Crystalline Osmium Glass, and two 7th-gen Solar Power Generators working in tandem to support the ships electrical needs.

5 Rail-guns are currently being researched.
6 Genetic Research has been an ongoing research process.

Any other PMT is bought from other countries when applicable.
