![]() Syllvan News Group Protests Become Widespread in Dacceron, Polmor, and Sencan, Officials Urge Calm. By Mektus Doloik April 4th, 2017 Cerlanis, Dacceron - Federal officials have issued statements requesting citizens in the territories of Dacceron, Polmor, and Sencan to remain calm and orderly, after large protests erupted across the areas in response to the passage of resolution "Foreign Plot Purchase Act 1" by the Island Assembly, which allows the designation of public and private land as "Special Economic Plots" that can be purchased or rented by foreign powers. An estimated twenty thousand people turned out in the city of Ruyfeld Prime at 8:00 this morning, blocking Central Avenue for five hours and grinding the industrial processes in the city to a halt. Similar sized groups were present in Horimae, Jeslen, and Phaedrus. IDF personnel have been deployed by the Sector Command and are expected to remain on standby in the cities for the next several days. Many citizens in the territories have expressed dismay at the resolution for several months, with 4 different petitions being submitted to the Assembly calling for the issue to be dropped. Members of the Daccic ethnic group have historically clashed with the federal government over the issues of civil rights and fair representation in the Assembly and Commons. Several community leaders have made statements that the new resolution is only the latest in a long line of attempts by the Confederation to marginalize Syllvania natives. One, on the condition of remaining anonymous, stated that the protests are "only our justifiable right as citizens of this nation. We've given far too much and received too little, and now we risk losing even more of our land to faceless bureaucrats." Senior member of the Committee on Internal Security, Gerarm Plattis, spoke at a press conference in Syllvan Center at 10:30 this morning. "While we understand the concerns of the citizens in these three territories, the Foreign Plot Purchase Act has been passed to allow more economic viability to underdeveloped areas of Free Syllvin. There are seven areas in particular in Dacceron alone that have more vacant or foreclosed facilities than anywhere in the nation. These will be made available for companies from other nations to use for their operations so as to provide more jobs and growth in the area, as well as strengthen our international relations. The Internal Defense Force urges calm and level-headedness going forwards. We encourage the peaceful demonstrations continue and will support our citizens in their concern, but we must not let things get out of hand. Riot situations may prove disastrous to commercial operations in the region, and we are standing by in case violence does occur." At the time of this writing, the protests continue in Ruyfeld Prime with no signs of deceasing in size. Those in other cities have ceased or shrunk significantly. While some portions of demonstrators have organized into formal marches against the new resolution, the majority of people participating remain unruly and mob-like. Officials have no report for the public on when normal operations are expected to resume. [ Full story Here] Article by Mektus Doloik, reporting from SNG Dacceron Office in Cerlanis. Syllvan News Group Civil Unrest in Ruyfeld Prime Worsens, Internal Defense Forces Intervene By Lillis Porfan April 5th, 2017 Ruyfeld Prime, Polmor - The massive protests that began yesterday morning in response to the passage of the Foreign Plot Purchase Act 1 have continued into today, and significant numbers of citizens have engaged in increasingly violent activities. Travel and business in the metropolitan area have largely stopped due to the obstructions to road and railways. Since the IDF press conference on the situation and the dispatch of Sentry Corps personnel to the city, the public consensus has only became more antagonistic. While some have spoken out against the Island Assembly on social media, claiming that the representation apparatus heavily favors the territories in the Confederacy, large numbers of people have turned out to the crowds that continue to hold Ruyfeld Prime in a frozen grip of inaction. The peaceful demonstrations that had taken place in the Almaro Park and along 7th Boulevard have largely dissolved into unorganized mobs. A common theme observed is people chanting, "No more ignorance! We need action!" at IDF units present. At 2:39 this afternoon, a riot broke out between Traveller's Avenue and the entrance to the NH-4. Participants used construction tools and building materials from the site of the under-construction Syllvan Central Bank regional office to vandalize public transport vehicles and building facades. IDF units in the vicinity managed to contain the violence after a tense standoff between Public Suppression officers and armed civilians. Seventy-five people were arrested, and twelve with mild injuries were taken by helo-MDs to Ruyfeld Municpal Hospital. Sector Command and Polmor Central Security Office issued joint statements shortly after the riots were contained, emphasizing the need for public safety and compliance. Commissioner Haris Dorrly expressed his support for the concerns that people have for the implications of the FPPA-1, stating "it is a controversial piece of legislation that should be thoroughly reviewed by the Commons," but that citizens need to vent their frustration in a more productive manner and direct their grievances to their associated representatives in the Assembly. For their part, the Island Assembly members who were instrumental in pushing the resolution through have not commented on any of the unrest in the Syllvania territories. The representatives from Polmor, Mister Plekk and Miss Qirdar, notable for their efforts to improve the federal allowances for the Gondwanan parts of Free Syllvin, have told SNG reporters that they hope to work closely with their constituents in the coming weeks to gain a more favorable position. EDIT: Another group of protesters between Riverside Avenue and Second Street have been subject to mass arrests following the application of grafitti on the lobby windows of the IDF metropolitan headquarters. Caricatures of City Overseer Ganer and anti-Farwe slogans were recorded before the paint was removed. There are reports from witnesses that there were several civilians who suffered severe injuries when the Public Suppression units needed to use physical force to disperse the crowds, and there is one confirmed case of an individual with severe burns being transported to the Municipal Hospital. Syllvan News Group Federal Oil Discovery Boon for Syllvania By Brembo Tuncius April 20th, 2017 Cerlanis, Dacceron - Government survey teams in the western Dacceron desert struck pay-dirt yesterday with the successful tap of the largest petroleum reservoir recorded in Free Syllvin. Economists predict the influx of foreign demand and required jobs to use this resource will have positive impacts on the financial situation of Dacceron and Polmor. Information on this expedition has been sparse since the Department of Sovereign Energy Production dispatched survey teams to Dacceron in October of 2015. A recent press release by the Department confirms the long-held public belief that the surveys discovered the theoretical Western Reserve, the colloquial name for a supposed parent petroleum pocket to the Three Borders Field in western Annuen. Federal geologists have estimated a total oil-in-place at 150.62 billion barrels. Preliminary recovery rate stands at 68%. Due to the size of the reservoir and its strategic implications, officials from the Department of Sovereign Energy Production, the Department of Military Logistics, and the Department of Infrastructure have each made statements concerning the future plans for the territory. A spokesperson from the DoI had this remark for the SNG: "We are looking at a near-total conversion of the south-western portion of Dacceron and the western half of Polmor into hubs for oil extraction, production, refinement and shipping. Pipelines, derricks, refineries, and their associated facilities. This will require a large workforce and a large amount of materials." The DoML is looking into opening more mines and quarries in the Gedian regions to supply construction efforts. The Internal Defense Force is expected to mobilize a large portion of the Sentry Corps in Syllvania to secure the reservoir. Incursions by the Daccic Republic are becoming more frequent along the western borders, and the Commissioner in Cerlanis stated that, "We are prepared for any event like that of the Sixteenth's Skirmish and will take additional steps to utilize our resources to prevent such an incident from happening." Only time will tell if the IDF will be needed, and if they can prevent such an occurance should it come to conflict. Syllvan News Group Heavy Fighting as Republic forces Push the Border By Brembo Tuncius April 28th, 2017 Cerlanis, Dacceron - As a followup to the attacks that coincided with the declaration of war between the Daccic Republic and Free Syllvin, Republican forces have launched a mass push across the DMZ into western Dacceron. Armored vehicle units supported by combat helicopters and artillery have dealt a heavy toll to IDF units in the region. Starting at 3:02 this afternoon, an estimated five-hundred Republican tanks and armored vehicles launched assault waves at the border security stations in Dacceron. While the DMZ is heavily mined and under constant surveillance, the IDF stations are key to holding the border. Each has a dedicated battery of six medium artillery cannons and two anti-air cannons to prevent the DMZ from being breached. The weapons emplacements have proven to be effective against the Republican armor, but reports indicate the tactics in use by the hostile vehicles eventually succeeded, drawing the attention of the IDF personnel and allowing for Republican artillery to disable or destroy many border security stations. Within four hours of the attacks, the Dacceron Air Defense Command had mobilized several squadrons of anti-armor and anti-infantry helicopters to the border. Initial success was high, with as many as sixty vehicles destroyed and fifty disabled. This halted the Republican advance for one hour, at which point they deployed their own air units. This, coinciding with the arrival of the First Mechanized Reactionary Legion to the stretch of border between security stations fifty through fifty four, prompted a massive engagement between air and land units of both sides, spread across approximately thirty kilometers. Several witnesses from the Fourth Armored Rifle Company agreed to share details of the battle. Helicopters exchanged fire with tanks and other helicopters, while infantry and medium armor engaged indiscriminately. A particular unit in the Republican forces, which has been identified as a motorized anti-air battalion, has been credited with sixteen Syllvan helicopters disabled or destroyed. The IDF officers from the Fourth have expressed to SNG that the Republic seems to anticipate certain actions. The Syllvania Sector Command has begun mobilizing additional units in the highland territories and the reorganization of the civil security forces in the western territories is underway. It is estimated between forty and forty-five thousand officers can be expected to be deployed to the combat area within the next two weeks. Several nations have pledged support to the Syllvan cause, chief among them the fellow SEPC member Stratarin. The High Senate has pledged to direct all support to the immediate security of Dacceron and to seal the border before the Republic can gain a significant foothold. Syllvan News Group Cease Fire in Effect Between Republic and Confederate Islands By Hapdis Merdou July 30th, 2017 Syllvan Center, Valandar - In a move much-needed by those on both sides of the conflict, The Conclave has signed an official agreement to halt all fighting with the Parliament of the Daccic Republic. This comes at the nearly three-month anniversary of the start of the conflict, and has been anticipated due to the lack of large-scale operations on either side. The last major engagement was three weeks ago near the southern Dacceron-Republic border, with only minor skirmishes occurring since. The spokesman for The Conclave expressed the body's wish that the cease fire will lead to more stable and permanent peace conditions. Public opinion has sharply dropped in recent weeks concerning the conflict. In a study conducted by the Social Institute for the Confederation, interviewed subjects from each territory tended towards having a negative opinion to the war, with 67% stating they wanted it over as soon as possible, and a further 54% convinced the government had brought this on the nation through their dismissal of the Republic as a credible military power. After the "Massacre of Deltros," in which an EDF legion fought a holding action against what has been estimated to be a Republican division in order for airstrikes to be coordinated, the general approval rating of the Councilor on National Defense fell to 40%. Trends of political attitude appear to have been noticed by the High Senate, which has released a statement along with the announcement concerning the cease fire: "The Island Assembly and Conclave have deliberated upon the best action for the Confederation, and both have consensus that it is in the interest of the nation to pursue peace with the Republic before more egregious losses and damage occurs. The appropriate departments are using all information at their disposal to contact the Republican leadership." - Bellingtus Vekkis, Associate Press Secretary for the Department of Public Relations. This comes as a reversal to the stance of the Conclave one month ago, with Mister Vekkis stating that the Councilor on Internal Security was "wave-mad with conviction and determination to cripple the Republican war machine at the fullest extent of [his] power." The Councilor on Internal Security has largely been supplanted by the Councilor on National Defense, however, and the IDF has taken a defensive role for most of the conflict. It is unclear how the government actually feels about the matter, but it is apparent they are at least trying to mend the situation in order to restore some semblance of order. Syllvan News Group EXTERNAL DEFENSE FORCE ANNOUNCES IMPLEMENTATION 99 By Gerian Wallitzchtivich November 8th, 2017 ![]() Syllvan Center, Valandar - In a joint press conference/demonstration, the External Defense Force has announced that it has begun to issue mechanized exoskeletons to its troops. The long-running "Project 99" as it is colloquially known, which started in 2003, was conceived with the goal of equipping the elite forces of the EDF with power-assisted exoskeletons. After fifteen years of research and development, they have produced a viable prototype that has no outstanding detriments, stated the EDF's Senior Public Relations Manager Madrian Festin at Wednesday's conference. The final model is planned to be phased into use with the N-STAC divisions and the EDF Rangers by 2025. Project 99 staff and members of the Experimental Weapons Technology Division were on hand to help demonstrate the equipment. Five members of the ExWeapTech detachment were issued models of the exoskeleton that were slightly different than each other, with one being the base model, and the other four specialized for reconnaissance, communications, demolitions, and espionage. Each model still displays increased strength and speed. Technical details are currently classified, including how much a user can lift and how fast they can move while wearing the exoskeleton. The demonstration did show that soldiers can pick up and operate a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with one hand, and cover a hundred-meter dash much faster than an unassisted human, but it is not known if this is the limit of the frames' abilities. These demonstrations mark the beginning of the last round of testing before the exoskeleton is issued to the ExWeapTech at large, and later, the Rangers. Project 99 does not disclose much information to the public other than major milestones and the purpose of the project. It is estimated by the Center for Military Development at the University of Dacceron that the Project has cost an accumulated 14 billion Syllvan E-Dollars. Several staff at the press conference expressed that they hope to downsize infantry manpower in the future thanks to the benefits the exoskeleton will provide to the potential of individual soldiers. It is not know if this is a stance that the Conclave echoes and if the military will be able to recoup the cost of the project now that is is in the final testing stages. Syllvan News Group CONCLAVE WINS UNANIMOUS FIRST-ROUND REELECTION By Samuel Sendrich January 30th, 2018 ![]() Syllvan Center, Valandar - Citizens in the Confederacy and Syllvania alike turned out to show their support for the nation's leaders in the first round of Concalve appointments that will take place over the next two years. All Councilors in this round have secured their seats at the Table for another 5 years by a wide margin. Constantine DeMarc, the sitting Chairman and Councilor on Energy Management, received a staggering 87% margin of victory in his home territory of Emoro. DeMarc, who relinquishes his position as Chairman next April, spoke with News Group officials, and attributed his success to the path that the nation is taking internationally. "I believe [my re-election] was influenced by how our people feel here in Emoro. As a nation-state, our integration into the global stage can be considered a resounding victory compared to our position five years ago. If the people feel that having me as a Councilor attributed to this victory, I will not deny them that." The Chairman, pictured above with family and associates and dressed with the traditional colors of his territory, indicated he will take the Conclave-wide vacation week to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. While some territories like Emoro have rallied around their representative, others such as Annuen have signs of tensions. The largely-rural territory was struck by significant Daccic airstrikes last summer, and the population is largely indecisive about the Conclave; the Councilor on Environmental Regulation, Hebris Ingusson, retained his seat by a slim 7% margin after 13% of his constituents voted for an unknown instead of his rival Pele Marguiriez. One citizen of Phaedrus, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that Ingusson is lucky he holds the position of Environmental Regulation and not National Defense. The current Councilor for that area is Adria Kalan from Tonk. Kalan's election round is this June. Several positions on the Conclave will not be up for any elections for the foreseeable future. Councilor on Foreign Associations Darius Lourne, appointed as indefinite occupier of the position, is viewed as a necessary evil by those citizens we spoke with, who indicate while they are confident in his military and diplomatic acumen, his personal character leaves much to be desired. The memories of the Almaro administration are still fresh in the minds of the older generations, mentioned a resident of Halligeca. While Lourne may have proved his worth in the new government, she said, he still has yet to answer for his part of Almaro's follies. Neither the official Conclave press department orLourne's public relations staff could be reached for comment on how the High Senate will be working on a system to brief any successor to the Council position in the vast amounts of information Lourne has been privy to.
