The Oan National News Service has been set up to dispense news from the Oan Isles. We aim to provide a multiplicity of views and perspectives on current affairs to provide a holistic understand of the events of the day, and how people are responding to them. The nature of reporting and journalism is complex, and without a multifaceted approach to the news, the news that is dispense lacks depth and fails to espouse and strengthen the values of democracy to which we aspire. This service is impartial in its selection of the articles we publish and the publications from which we find them. This news service does not write any articles. Various publications that are part of the Oan National Press Associations publish their own news. Our panel of expert journalists select note worthy articles and publish them on our website, below. We aim to be fair and comprehensive in the issues we give exposure to and the manner in which we choose to showcase them. We take no responsibility for the views that are expressed here or any damage or if the text is offensive. We have tried our best to respect the values of freedom of speech and the like, while adhering to laws on hate speech and the like. For any further information, please contact us on the following:
Feel free to enjoy our site and contribute by offering your criticism, commendation or suggestions through Skype or Discord and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Edited by The Oan Isles, May 31 2017, 08:05:10 AM.

Oan citizen rescued from terrorists Published on 23 April 2017 By Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of the La Rochelle Times An Oan citizen, Niana Takatunuye, the sister of the Cafe Net Ltd. internet corporation CEO, Etuarti Takatunuye, and head of the Cafe Net branch in Latianburg, was captured by a member of the Al-Jaheed terrorist group, Muttar Mimahid, a week and a half ago. After the state enlisted the assistance of a Furnifoldian detachment deployed there, she was rescued and successfully sent back to The Oan Isles, were she arrived in the capital, La Rochelle, yesterday. She was the subject of a fake execution in a propaganda video issued by the Al-Jaheed, along with several foreign soldiers and civilians who were actually killed. She sustained injuries and psychological trauma from torture and/or abuse at the hands of the al-Jaheed, and is being treated at the La Rochelle General Hospital. |

Silent march held in La Rochelle Published on 23 April 2017 By Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of The La Rochelle Times A silent march was held outside The La Rochelle General Hospital in support of Niana Takatunuye and other victims of the ongoing violence in Latianburg. Marchers held candles and left wreaths of flowers and palm fronds at the doorstep of the hospital. Spokesperson for the Takatunuye family, Camila Takatunuye, spoke outside the hospital in a press briefing, in which she welcomed the support and warmly received the gifts on Miss Takatunuye's behalf. She further went on to encourage solidarity with fellow Oans in times of need and celebrated the kindness shown to them. She condemned the Al Jaheed and their associates, a terrorist group from Adumara, The Taikow Liberation Organisation for the reckless endangerment of civilians. The march was organised by The Pacifist Alliance, and its leader, Ana Ioye, encouraged Oans to promote peace in times of trouble and solidarity among one another, wishing Miss Takatunuye a speedy recovery from the Pacifist Alliance. |

Latianburg citizens seeking resettlement in The Oan Isles Published on 23 April 2017 By Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of the La Rochelle Times Citizens of Latianburg, employees of the Cafe Net Ltd. branch in Latianburg, have petitioned the Oan embassy in Kuthernburg, via the Oan consulate in Latianburg for refugee status and resettlement to The Oan Isles. The Oan embassy has been criticised for stalling the admission process. The Oan ambassador to Kuthernburg, said that the vetting process was prolonged by logistical issues and conflict. He defended the vetting process in light of the infiltration of a member of the Al Jaheed, through his sister, an employee, of the company unbeknownst to her, into the Cafe Net offices where he was able to abduct Niaba Takatunuye. A fellow at the University of La Rochelle's Centre For Human Rights, cites the Law of Hospitality as the principle that should guide the embassy and state, as it encourages the state to admit those bereaved by persecution and/or conflict to the Oan Isles, and as employees of an Oan company, the applicants have a unique status. The state remains adamant that security risks are high. |

Cafe Net takes responsibility for its employees in Latianburg Published on 23 April 2017 By Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of the La Rochelle Times After discussions with the Oan ambassador to Kuthernburg, the chief executive of the company, Cafe Net, Etuarti Takatunuye, made an announcement that Cafe Net will pay for the resettlement of its employees and provide them with jobs in the Kuthernburg regional head office in the Kuthernburg World Trade Centre. The Chief executive, also announced that the Latianburg branch office will be closed and a number of services will be discontinued in light of the threat to its assets and employees. He stated that the branch office lease will be terminated immediately and indefinitely. The withdrawal of the company represents millions of kiribs of divestment from Latianburg. Some of the Latian citizens were disgruntled as they believed that they deserved Oan protection as employees of an Oan company. Their flights and accommodation will be paid for by the company. The government has remained largely withdrawn from the issue, taking a muted tone on the resettlement of the Latian citizens. In light of these developments the state has merely stated that Oan troops will be withdrawn from Latianburg nd return home, while the state continues to condemn and call for international action on the Al-Jaheed. |

Edited on 20 October 2017 Published: 3 May 2017 By Niana Takatunuye From La Rochelle Of the Raisson rouge
Celeste Uataka, Chief Executive Officer of the Metatron Corporation, announced the commercial release of the company's new smartphone, the Metatron Hua. This transparent touchscreen phone will be available in stores around Aurora for SH$599.99. She said that the device represents the culmination of years of work and a significant gear shift in the market. We couldn't agree more! It has a sleek design. It is fairly lightweight, and not as large as the phablet, the Metatron Cosmo. It does not represent significant shift in processing speed or features from conventional touchscreen smartphones on the market such as the Metatron Astro II. The real marvel is the transparency and the subsequent change in the program interface and overall experience. Critics were sceptical of the popularity and profitability of the release of the cellphone. Miss Uataka represented a conservative shift in the direction and the vision of the company, but it's clear that it could not be further from the truth. The tenacity Metatron has shown in the ambitious projects it has undertaken, it represented fully and unequivocally in the new Metatron Hua I. This is planned to be the first phone in the series, with the next Hua II planned for release in 2018. Edited by The Oan Isles, Oct 19 2017, 09:06:38 PM.

Op-Ed: Metatron under Uataka Published on 4 May 2017 By Mauia Uweleye From La Rochelle Of The Critic Online Newspaper The Metatron Corporation is the largest company in or from The Oan Isles. It was born when a number of manufacturers of electronic products were bailed out and bought by the government. They were reincorporated under the banner of the Metatron Corporation. Oahuana Uye is the man credited with its founding and directing it in its infant years. The company was considerably clear and his vision is best articulated by the simple maxim of the company: the heart of technology. This ambitious goal, to be at the centre of scientific development and research in electronics, and computer products remains at the core of the company's mandate and goals. Celeste Uataka is at the helm now, directing a rather large and sometimes unwieldy ship. The Board appointed her at the end of January this year. She assumed her role with mixed reviews. Several people cited that her appointment was a matter of politics. The Memorandum of Incorporation of the company was changed, giving the National Council as the sole appointer of the Board, even though half the voting power belonged to the workers just as much as it did to the government. There was a great deal of lobbying from the state and its supporters to push its proposed changes. It provides the state with powers that effectively usurped many of the practical uses that having voting powers gave the workers and has made the "Oan model" remarkable and unique. There was a great deal of speculation over a matter of fowl play. The National Council managed to stave off much of the allegations of bribery and intimidation that marred the lobbying process. The National Council remained aloof on the matter, citing efficacy and efficiency as the reason for amending the Memorandum of Incorporation and has adamantly defied any accusations of fowl play. Regardless of what the truth really is, the National Council got what it wanted: power to control one of the biggest corporations in Aurora. The Board experienced a brutal cull. Supporters of the government, or at least those who don't oppose the state, were appointed and detractors were removed. Pro state trade unionists were added on to placate the brooding masses. And for a time, it seemed as though it was business as usual. In December of 2016, it was clear that Niami Sele was having a difficult time running the company. Primrose Inc. from Staynes was hammering Metatron on many fronts and she was struggling to cope. Citing personal problems and new goals (we still have no idea what they are), she was hurried out, as quickly and as quietly as possible. A number of things have been cited as possible reasons that are contrary to what the National Council has been saying. Niami was regarded by a La Rochelle to have failed to deliver on key objectives and make strategic decisions. Primrose was rising, and Metatron was contracting. Under the economic circumstances and Primrose's access to Staynish economic muscle, was it really her fault? To be honest, their demands were unrealistic and they were overexaggerating. There was more. She was... expendable. With General Oaluoa Uye's controversial Operation Conquer Gondwana, there were bigger fish to fry. Celeste Uataka had a very suspicious role in it, and in Ese Ulua's bigger plans to remake the government, she had no place in his new National Council. She was too useful and too dangerous to merely toss out into the garbage, which is where many believed he wanted her to be. So they orchestrated an elaborate plan to put her in a position where she was close enough to control, but had no more control over levers of policy. From the lobbying, the dismissal of Niami Sele, the change to the Memorandum of Incorporation, to the cull of the Board, we arrive at the present, where Celeste Uataka is the new boss of a multi billion dollar business. She's more of an accountant and politician (a really shrewd and cunning one) than a Jeremy Irons-type business mogul. Perhaps that is why her first few months are so surprising. The tech world thought she'd rein in debt, at best. So many things have happened under her reign in the past few months, for which she has received disproportionate praise and credit. Negotiations and plans for a planned city called Metatron City finally got started and broke ground with the South Staynish government. The Metatron Hua, the first transparent cellphone was released. She was the one making the speeches and receiving applause at the end. But does she really deserve credit for any if it? There is something that one must understand. Metatron Corporation is huge. It has lots of subdivisions and elements from stoves to hand held video game consoles. They operate largely independently. They can deflect the impact of the drama at the top of the food chain with relative ease. Both the plan for Metatron City and Metatron Hua, have been developed for years. Many years. She was never really a part of the actual formatio, except approving the occasional cash injection when she was the Minister of Finance. The real credit goes to the worker and the managing directors. She merely found an opportune moment to smile for the cameras on Metatron's behalf. Whether or not she has the mettle to stand up for this company, and thousands of people who depend on it, has yet to be seen. Edited by The Oan Isles, May 4 2017, 10:48:56 AM.

OMA nominations ceremony! Published on 11 May 2017 By Fab X From Serenity City Of the Raisson rouge It is that time of the year again when the Oan Recording Industry Association announces its shortlisted candidates for the coveted Oan Music Awards. The nomination ceremony is being streamed live on the OMA website (http://www.oma.co.oa). The most important awards were left for last and announced between 10 pm and 11 pm. The nominees for Best New Artist are
The Best Album nominations were a fairly traditional look at albums that performed well commercially. It is not to say that the music was bad, but the promised "radical" shift that the ORIA claimed to be undergoing and which was desperately needed by artists everywhere, experienced a quick and quiet expulsion from the room when the nominations look like this:
Some wise person once said "If music is the fruit of life, play on". The songs that have been selected this year will be sung an remembered long after their sell-by date is due. The nominees are as follows:
The Oan Music Awards have many great artists lined up, and, while this may seem cliché, based on the calibre of music represented by the ORIA, a nomination is literally good enough. The pre-telecast ceremony will take place on the 17 May while the main ceremony will take place on 20 May. Both ceremonies will be streamed live on Cafe Tube all over Aurora and Antilla, yet only the main ceremony will be broadcast live on television on the OBC Channel OBC Music.[edit_reason]Done.[/edit_reason] Edited by The Oan Isles, May 11 2017, 01:28:02 AM.

Relations with New Leganes Published 12 May 2017 By Reply Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of the La Rochelle Times After a long time of negotiations and discussion, formal relations between the Cooperative Commonwealth of [nation]New Leganes[/nation] and the Realm of [nation]The Oan Isles[/nation]. The two countries have agreed to a number of cooperative measured to boost trade and investment. Oan companies have been granted access for fishing and mineral extraction and exploration. After a crucial deal to mine tin in Furnifold was lost to an Adumaran bid, the new deal with New Leganes provides a new light for the Oan Isles. The Oan Isles benefits from cheap access to important raw materials such as metals and hydrocarbon fuels, while New Leganes benefits from cash flow, access to foreign markets and employment opportunities. The Oan government has promised to invest 3 billion dollars in tourism in New Leganes. A new company has been set up to plan, develop and execute the construction and operation of a planned development along the Privetia Taurillen water front (the New Leganese capital) called the Serene Majesty Waterfront. This project will include a shopping centre, hotel, luxury housing and self catering facilities, restaurants and other projects that meld Oan and New Leganese architecture, culture and entertainment. This comes on the heals of another planned investment project in South Staynes from the Metatron Corporation to build a planned city. The Oan government has been aggressive in its investment and development projects and international cooperations to boost Oan ambitions of being a major international player, out of the shadow of former coloniser and one of the most powerful countries on Urth, the Staynish-Caltharus Empire. |

The Oan government: a Wolf in Sheep's clothing! Published on 17 May 2017 By Mauia Uweleye From Serenity City Of the Critic Online Newspaper The government of the Oan Isles has had mixed reviews in its involvement in the Peacekeeping Forces of Urth. In a scathing article published on 9 May 2017, by Adam Bly, for the New Furnifold Times, sources revealed that the Oan government stated that it was involved in the PKFU to advance its foreign policy objectives, and protect its foreign assets and economic interests. The article further criticised the weapons procurement program, and its inclination towards special operations and air strikes, the fact that the PKFU was deployed to a country that had the resources to combata weakened terrorist organisation, and the fact that peacekeepers have opened a brothel under the ridiculous guise of supporting economic recovery. While the Oan government has reduced its overall contribution and redirect its resources towards election monitoring, disaster relief and humanitarian aid, it has failed to criticise its so-called "allies" on their perpetuation of practices that are an affront to our laws and values. The Oan government has yet to provide on what its foreign policy objectives are in the context of the PKFU. If those aims are the proliferation of sentient dignity, pacifism and democracy, the government, then the state has had an abysmal failure in that regard. The Foreign Office has failed to coalesce its so-called foreign policy around our values as a nation. For example it maintains fairly strong relations with two totalitarian and despotic dictatorships, some tin-pot hole called Celannica run by an AI, and a communist pompous pit called Stratarin, from whom our government has the audacity to purchase military hardware. The government presumably derives its mandate from "the people", yet it is highly questionable which people. It is certainly not the men and women who pay taxes and work to make this country great. They receive their mandate from the so-called "Defender", a gluttonous swine in the Serene Palace, and the multi-national conglomerates siphening off our wealth and resources to make themselves rich, undertaking obscene and extravagant construction projects in South Staynes and New Leganes. Our people have constantly been against the foreign policy of our government. A La Rochelle Times poll in 2016 found that 56% of 2,000 people surveyed in 20 Oan cities were opposed to the state's overall direction of foreign policy. The state has entered into multi-billion dollar agreementd with militaristic oligarchic dictatorships such as South Staynes, Stratarin, Celannica and a myriad of others, without proper consideration for the fact that 80% of people polled in January this year are ardently opposed to those countries. The state has disgraced our nation's perceived humility by disobeying the Law of Hospitality, when it refused to admit refugees from Latianburg. This government is shameful and disgraceful and it is up to the people to remove them! |

Stronger Relations with Latianburg and Kuthernburg Published on 18 May 2017 By Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of the La Rochelle Times The Oan government has launched a second wave of diplomatic and economic projects to strengthen ties and relations. The newest and most comprehensive project were relations established and strengthened with Latianburg, Kuthernburg and Atiland. A variety of investment projects, loans, bilateral trade agreements and travel agreements were entered into with the aforementioned countries. This article will comprehensively explain and analyse the agreements and their implications on the Oan Isles, on our businesses, on our people and on our role in the world as a middle power. Kuthernburg is a member of the Peacekeeping Forces of Urth (or PKFU), of which the Oan Isles is also a member. The two collaborate, along with other countries, on peacekeeping, election monitoring and disaster relief, among others, with the other member states. The conflict in Latianburg begun by the terrorist organisation Al Jaheed, prompted the government to intensift its focus and strengthen its relations with the country. Cafe Net, an Oan internet services provider (ISP) known for its Cafe Tube and Cafe Vibe online applications, opened an office in the Kuthernburg World Trade Center. It opened a branch in Latianburg and began providing services to the country. Oan troops were sent to protect the branch. An Al Jaheed agent named Muttar Mimahid infiltrated the office and kidnapped Niana Takatunuye, a member of the wealthy and renowned Takatunuye clan. Through collaboration with Furnifoldian forces, she was successfully rescued and her captor was detained by Kuthern forces. This shared victory strengthened the relationship that the Oan Isles had with Kuthernburg, so much so that over a month later, agreements on a broad range of issues were signed. There will be mutual investment of 17 and 18 billion dollars in infrastructure particularly transport (such as ports and airports) and natural disaster prevention (such as levees and dykes). Bilateral trade will increase to 70 billion dollars. There will be ease of travel for citizens of both countries. Oancom (or the Oan Telecommunications Corporation) will receive a sizeable market share of the broadband internet and cellular network industry. Latianburg is closely associated companies with Kuthernburg. Kuthernburg acted as a conduit through which Latianburg received Oan funds and investment, and relations (albeit small) began. Cafe Net opened a branch there, but the office was closed and services were ended following the abduction of Niana Takatunuye. The company has tentatively begun its operations again, a process that was catalysed by a number of agreements that Oan and Latian governments signed. The Oan government will invest 4 billion dollars in projects, the bulk of which will go toward infrastructure. The Oan Isles will provide Latianburg with foreign aid of 2 billion dollars. The Oan government will make 20 billion dollars worth of loans available to Latianburg. Bilateral trade will increase to 50 billion dollars. OANCOM has been given an monopoly on internet broadband and cellular network services in that country. Atiland is a small country you have probably not heard about. It relies on cocoa for most of its revenue. It experiences widespread poverty and inequality. It is ruled by a corrupt and authoritarian government. These are characteristics that are opposed by our people and thus, should not be included in our foreign policy objectives. Just as Mauia Uweleye's article in the Critic Online Newspaper (published on 18 May 2017) points out rather bluntly, the Oan government is going against the values anyway. OANCOM has been awarded a monopoly over the broadband internet and cellular network and services. While the move is a corporate one, it is unlikely that it would be possible without state involvement. The government is also major stakeholder in the company leading many experts to speculate that the state was heavily involved. Regardless of what ones perceptions about these deals are, it is clear that they have the potential to create thousands of jobs and generate billions of dollars and income. When these deals are entered into with countries that oppose the Oan values of democracy, pacifism, rule of law and sentient rights, is it really worth it? |

Edited on 20 October 2017 New Zoo Opens Up! Published on 19 May 2017 Toka Zoo has opened up. The zoo was originally founded as a menagerie in the royal palace by the Rangitanga at the time, two hundred years ago. After nearly a century of existence, the menagerie was opened up to the public. Ownership and responsibility for the zoo was taken up by the state nearly half a century later. After another half century, the zoo is relocating. The zoo is moving to a facility a few miles out from La Rochelle. The site was an old farm that had become unprofitable, and was bought by a member of the royal family. He then sold the land to the state which began planning the facility in 2007. Three years later construction began. Due to delays, the project has taken seven years to complete. It was funded by a combination of corporate sponsors, private donations and government cash. The zoo cost 413 million SHD (or 2.4 billion OAD) to build. The cost increased from the original 240 million SHD (1.68 billion OAD). The project was heavily criticised and nearly led to Deborah Kaiwawai nearly quitting on the job. But the project managed to get off the ground again and was quickly completed. The state wanted to increase the number of specimens and the facilities that were available to do research. The project has partnered with numerous companies and institutions in the fields of animal science, medicine and technology. This includes Cafe Net and the Science School of the Toka University, to promote research about different types of animals. The site is almost a square kilometre in size. It features enclosures for over a hundred species of animals, entertainment such as restaurants and shops, and laboratories for research and a museum for display. It also features a cable car that gives aerial views of the facility and surrounding area. The zoo uses green technology to cut emissions and cost such as waste water treatment, rain water collection, solar panels, digital communication and enclosure monitoring systems that will save millions of dollars every year. The zoo was opened by the current Rangitanga, who praised the zoo and the ingenuity of its builders. The facility has received recognition for its modern and high tech facilities including awards from various societies and organisations in the sciences. The zoo features 60 birds, 40 mammals, 50 reptiles and 30 amphibians. Birds include the eagles, hawks, owls, macaws, cassowary, moa, kiwi, ibis, swan, tropicbirds and flamingos. Mammals include lions, elephants, rhinos, bears, primates, buck and bats. Reptiles include chameleons, iguanas, crocodiles, snakes, lizards and tortoises. Amphibians include frogs, toads, salamanders and newts. There are also 300 species of bugs such as ants, locust, cicada, beetles, spiders, scorpions, worms, roaches, stick bugs, vees, wasps and hornets. There are 100 types of marine life such as sharks, dolphins, seals, tuna, catfish, salmon, pufferfish, lungfish, crayfish, angelfish, eels and coral. There are also 1,000 types of plants. There are trees such as oaks, mahogany, teak, ebony, pine, fir, kauri, yellowwood, ironwood, fever, tree ferns, cycads, palms and redwoods. There are cacti, succulent plants, fynbos, herbaceous plants, carnivorous plants, orchids, creeps and lilies. There are other attractions such as restaurants that represent cuisine from almost every continent, offering panoramic views, petting zoo, horse riding, carriages, cable cars, golf carts and a tram. The site also has a DNA storage site with over 40,000 samples and over 100,000 seed samples. The site also has an electronmicroscope, gene splicer and a computer with a database of 1 million animals and plants. The site also has a library with 7,000 books and every copy of every scientific journal ever published in Aurora and a museum with 3,000 specimens of bones, mutated and preserved organisms, and so on. The facility is open from Wednesday to Sunday, and tickets cost 12 SHD (84 OAD) for adults and is free for pensioners and kids. Bulk trips are more affordable. The site is mostly funded by the state and aid from the royal family, excluding commercial amenities. Deleted Content

AL JAHEED HACKS CAFE NET! Published on 26 May 2017 By Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of the La Rochelle Times In act of bravado, Al Jaheed, a communist terrorist organisation from Latianburg, hacked the information service provider supernova, Cafe Net, shutting down many of their services including the browser, online video and music streaming, and social media platforms, leaving millions of users around the world in the dark. Cafe Net's CEO, Etuarti Takatunuye, released a statement approximately 20 minutes to that effect urging calm and promising that the matter would be dealt with promptly. Cafe Net provides internet services to businesses and private individuals in many countries, as a result of which the company could lose a large amount of revenue and share price value, when stock markets open in a few hours, according to our resident economic analyst Simon Noalua. Financial woes asside, a hacking of this nature, particularly against such a large and well-equipped company such as Cafe Net, shows how Al Jaheed has the resources and technical skills to cause serious damage to our digital and even physical infrastructure, raising serious concerns in the tech world and broader society. The scope and dimension of the attack has led ICT analyst James Toalua to suggest that Al Jaheed used a mutation string virus deployed remotely from an anonymous location or directly into the Cafe Net servers in La Rochelle. Without access to the Cafe Net cyber security schematics, it will be difficult to accurately point out how a mutation string virus could be deployed to the Cafe Net servers or penetrate their filters. Companies have begun beefing up online security in the wake of this emergency, or suspending operations altogether. National Intelligence and Security Services Chief, Isaac Kasalua, assuaged concerns that the e-Gov app was compromised, and said that they were working very closely with Cafe Net to repel the attack, seal any cracks in the security and prevent attacks of this nature from spreading. The e-Gov is by some margin the one of the most secure online apps in the world. It allows our country to be a direct democracy. Citizens can propose and vote for laws through the application. Its failure could represent a catastrophic demise of our democratic society. We will keep you posted on any further developments. |

AL JAHEED BOMBS NISS HQ! Published on 26 May 2017 By Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of the La Rochelle Times The Al Jaheed has bombed the headquarters of the National Intelligence and Security Services in La Rochelle. While no one was hurt and the infrastructural damage was small, one of the major server rooms, directly below the site of the bomb, was blown to cinders. The Defender has suspended the National Assembly and the e-Gov app has been shutdown. Emergency powers have reverted to the executive branches of the national, provincial governments. The Defender has called the Al Jaheed a terrorist organisation that has attacked the Oan way of life and our nation's safety. He proceeded to warn the Al Jaheed that the Oan nation will retaliate with the full might of her power. The e-Gov app allowed citizens to propose and vote on laws (or their cancellation and modification) for the the entire country, or the provinces and communities in which they live. This app made it possible for the people to form the legislative branch of the government and by extension the Sovereign of the Oan Isles. This power allowed the common people to not only have a say in how our government is run, but to actually run it. They had the power to make decisions that other branches were forced to accept, whether they liked it or not. The people were trully and unequivocally in charge of our government. Years of work and millions of dollars that have been poured into making our democracy the envy of the world, have been destroyed because of the callousness of barbarians and brutes. The Defender rallied our nation to action and called for calm, to a resounding ovation in the Serene Palace. Our way of life has been threatened, and in some ways unravelled, by savages. The Oan people will brutally punish the sludge threatens them. The full fury of the Oan people will be unleashed onto the Al Jaheed. With our glorious Defender at the helm, we are sure truimph over the malevolent forces of Hell that have attacked us. The La Rochelle Times fully supports our Defender's actions in dealing with and expunging the threat that has assailed our nation. The La Rochelle Times calls upon the people to cooperate and support our government's emergency measures and we will keep you posted on any developments if they come through. CENTRE FOR LAW AWARDS MIKHAIL STARIKOV Published on 27 May 2017 By Mauia Uweleye From Serenity City Of the La Rochelle Times The Center for Law at the University of Serenity City held its annual Law Awards, in which it recognised the achievements and work of law enforcement, legal and judicial bodies and individuals both within and throughout the world, earlier today. It aims to promote and recognised excellence in the legal profession. The Award, accompanied by a statuette and certificate, is sponsored by the Ulua Foundation, run by the Crown Prince of the Oan Isles, His Highness, Oaloana Ulua, which also sponsors the generous monetary accompaniment of 2 million dollars. While many of the awards were noteworthy, the biggest prize is the Ese Ulua Award for Most Outstanding Officer of the Law. It was rather surprising when the winner was announced: Mikhail Starikov, Procurator General of Stratarin. He was commended for his "courage and rigour in investigating the attempted assassination of Viktor Drugov, the General Secretary of Statarin, for reining in institutional problems in the Stratarin criminal justice system and for his exemplary leadership". His nomination was received with a raucous ovation, but unfortunately he was absent and a representative accepted the award on his behalf. The Centre for Law hopes that the expansion of winners and nominees to the international community, might increase the Awards' profile and significance. The Awards have a bigger context. They are released together with a general report of the state of the legal, judicial and law enforcement profession, systems and scholarly research throught the world. The report has damning results for the world, and rather succinctly describes it as deteriorating. The report contains the Rule of Law Index. This index measures access to competent and affordable legal representation and adjudicators, the prevalence of extrajudical killings and torture, the state of prisons, rehabilitation programs and the rights of convicted or suspected criminals, the prevalence of corruption, access to criminal proceedings and ease of procedure, and an effective bureaucracy, discipline and access to resources in the police forces and investigative agencies and so on. The Report reflects other factors such as political and civil freedom, conflict and crime, and so on. Aurora as a whole had the highest score with Emberwood Coast and The Oan Isles leading the pack. The continent as a whole has deteriorated especially seeing significant decrease of Xagrurg. Antilla dropped slightly due to the conflict in Latianburg. Atlantia remained stable and scored well with confidence expressed in the Atlae Isles, Tretrid and Mexregiona. Yasteria Major maintained its below average score, Veikayu performing significantly better than Listonia and Asendavia. No data from Packilvania, we cab guess it's appalling. No data from Arcturia could be collected. Gondwana scrapes the bottom of the barrell, although the sharp decrease makes us wonder: are there any judicial or legal systems there whatsoever? The Veridian Union managed to save face, but Central Gondwana especially Gongola fell flat and Celannica, which seemed to do better has clinched a spot at the end. The Center for Law aims to promote scholarly research and excellence in legal process, provide analysis and advise governments, NGOs and businesses on legal issues and encourage open dialogue on issues of impunity, opacity, and crime. The Centre had some discouraging revelations for our country. The Oan Isles while praised for combining social welfare and law enforcement to reduce crime, it has been criticised for executive interference. |

TERRORIST BOMBER ARRESTED! Published on 27 May 2017 By Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of the La Rochelle Times The terrorist behind the bombing of the headquarters of the National Intelligence and Security Services has been found and arrested by the Oan Police Services. His name is Muttar Mimahid. He was found trapped in a metal closet, trapped by the debris. He was taken into custody and is currently being interrogated. The Oan National Investigations Services has taken over the investigation. Muttar Mimahid is being suspected of carrying out the bombing, and according to Spokesperson for the ONIS, an overwhelming amount of evidence has been found, linking him to the crime, including fingerprints, and other incriminating evidence. The Oan National Prosecution Service believes that it has enough evidence to build a solid charge against Muttar Mimahid in the La Rochelle Regional Court. Member of the National Council for Justice, Iohana Toaye has announced that the Justice Office is working out a deal with the government of Latianburg to conduct Muttar Mimahid's trial and, carry out his inevitable sentence. Iohana Toaye made more shocking revelations. Muttar Mimahid claimed that he did not orchestrate the attack on the NISS. He says that he was deployed by the Al-Jaheed in Yor who are also called the Opposition Fighters of Yor. They provided him with the resources and training to carry out the attack in return for a life in South Hills. Intercepted communications have also revealed the presence of other Al-Jaheed operatives from Yor that have been deployed to the Oan Isles, to carry out more attacks on the Oan Isles. Muttar Mimahid claims that the Al Jaheed in Yor could have possibly hacked Cafe Net servers in La Rochelle. These attacks show that the Al Jaheed is able to project its power and influence from Yor. Other suspects have been arrested. The mounting evidence has shown that inspite of the heavy strikes in Yor, the Al-Jaheed are able to evade the forces. Defender Ese Ulua said that he will maintain open communications with the Latian and Xagrurgian governments, but he promised that if the Oan government feels that the matter is not adequately dealt with, the Oan Isles will have take matters into its own hands. While this statement was vague, we can only guess what the implications will be. |

REPORT DAMNING THE AL-JAHEED SUBMITTED TO THE ACA Published on 28 May 2017 By Imani Lucim From La Rochelle Of the La Rochelle Times The Oan ambassador to the Auroran Continental Assembly, Stephen Realua, submitted a report to the Auroran Continental Forces headquarted in Weyrcliff, Dragonia prepared by the Oan military and intelligence community. The 1,000 page report contained documented evidence that the Al-Jaheed were a threat not only to Xagrurg and Yor, but to the continent at large. The report provided recorded intercepted communications from Al-Jaheed operatives who were deployed to Celannica and the Oan Isles. The report provided incriminating evidence of the work of the Al-Jaheed and the immense threat it poses. The report provided evidence and analysis with the following results: 1) CAFE NET HACKING Cafe Net is an Oan internet services provider that provides internet services such as online music and video streaming, social networking and media, personal and business email, cloud storage and other services. The company was hacked by a well-equipped and organised cyber terrorist group or loose association of hackers. Through interrogation, virus origin tracing and their modus operandi, allows us to see that the hackers were affiliated or part of the Al-Jaheed in Yor. 2) National Intelligence and Security Service Bombing An operative of the Al-Jaheed, Muttar Mimahid, admitted to being sent by the Al Jaheed to bomb the Oan institution, to cripple its democracy. They aimed to spread their trail of destruction to other Auroran countries and threaten their political systems and their national security. 3) The Al-Jaheed Attack on Celannica The Al Jaheed orchestrated a massive attack on Celannica. This attack was so severe that General Zeda was forced to isolate his nation. The attack threatened a country that had powerful military and cyber defence capabilities yet it was able to cause severe damage. They could do the same to the ACA. 4)Hijacking a cruiseliner The Al Jaheed were able to hijack a cruiseliner and kidnap its occupants during the Four Years War. This shows that they were already well organised and well resourced to undertake massive operations. The proximity of the attack to Aurora, shows that it has had a constant presence in our region. The sudden rise of the Al Jaheed in Yor shows can allow us to make an accurate assessment that this terrorist organisation has been under the noses of the Xagrurgian government.

WAR PREPARATIONS UNVEILED Published on 31 May 2017 By Imani Lucim Of The La Rochelle Times From La Rochelle Member of the National Council for Defence, Kiahuaeni Luawuye, announced a number of preparations for a state of war. This comes on the heals of a declaration of war against the Greater Xagrurgian Empire that was announced yesterday. Ordinarily military training takes 4 gruelling years, but Adm. Luawuye announced that recruits who have completed at least one year of training will be automatically inducted into the defence service and be deployed in combat. This represents approximately 40,000 new additions to the defence services excluding the 10,000 who were going to graduate later this year. This means that the armed forces has been expanded from 150,000 men to 200,000 men. 35,000 will be admitted into the Terrestrial Defence Service, 10,000 will be admitted into the Maritime Defence Service and 5,000 will be admitted into the Aerial Defence Service. The Oan Defence Service plans to employ a further 10,000 medical and engineering personnel. The Oan Defence Service has leased 10 large patrol boats (which will be equipped for medical operations) and a hospital ship from the Oan Maritime Police Service. The operating budget has increased by 10 billion SHD to 60 billion dollars. A procurement budget of 20 billion SHD has been set aside to purchase or lease military hardware. The Oan Police Service has announced a budget increase of 10 billion dollars to hire more personnel and purchase new equipment. 100,000 police will be reorganised into a paramilitary force. They will be armed with AK-57 assault rifles and 1,000 new Eland armoured cars from the Oan National Motor Corporation, and 500 new medium tanks will be put into services. This new force, the Oan Paramilitary Police Service will remain a part of the Oan Police Service and serve under Member of the National Council for Police and Justice, Iohana Toaye. Curfews have been imposed. Stores, businesses and non-essential services will be closed from 00H00 to 04H00. Mandatory emergency drills will be held and information sessions in all institutions and businesses will be held on safety and emergency protocol. The state has also invoked the Emergency Situations Act. The National Court accepted the application. The National Intelligence and Security Service and the National Military Intelligence have been given sweeping powers of surveillance, powers to detain suspected terrorists for 24 hours, to search properties with a lay-warrant (a warrant issued by the Commissioner of Police of a Local Government that can be challenged in a court of law) to temporarily search or seize property. She warned that there would be a possibility of rations should desperately needed supplies run low. The government has, however, announced that 50 billion dollars will be pumped into stock piling medicine, fuel and food, for the difficult months ahead. For now life will remain almost the same. Protests will be limited to designated areas of cities such as the Speaker Square in La Rochelle. Ordinary courts will continue to exercise their powers. Oanaid has begun a drive to procure supplies to assist our soldiers, our foreign allies and refugees. Refugee stations have been set up on several islands to await an expected influx of refugees in which they can be efficiently and effectively vetted and housed. The Titanium Shield, the Oan anti missile and anti aircraft system has been put on maximum alert. Markets were gloomy after this announcement. With hefty damage done to Oan investment operations such as Floating Market and Cafe Net in Aurora, an announcement of this proportion has sent the markets in a new state of gloom. |

Op Ed: Are the People truly equal? Published on 2 June 2017 By Mauia Uweleye From Serenity City For the Critic Online Newspaper The Oan Isles has always typified itself as a haven of diversity. The presence of a large number of people who have distinct customs and beliefs, speak different languages and have differing ancestry, can attest to that fact. There is more to diversity than differences. Diversity implies that those people share a generally consistent and united vision of their ambitions for their country, they are equal at school, in the workplace, before the courts and in broader society. While we have mad successes since the day of interethnic violence and rivalries of the late 19th and early 20th century, we still have a way to go to address income inequality, unequal opportunities and the personal and broader social impact of the former two factors. During times of instability, such as these, we tend to ignore these societal issues. In order to effectively contend with our enemies, we cannot contend with ourselves. There are severe problems that must be addressed and perspectives that need to change to solve the problems that our country is faced with. Tuāki Tupou, leader of the council of chiefs of the Wayanatunu once said, "A home where one child is treated better than the other simply because of his good looks, rather than the merit of his actions or the content of his character, then that home is no longer a home. It is an the domicile of oppression and suffering". The vast majority of the Oan Isles' services and manufacturing is located on the Main Islands, east of Xiopothos. The vast majority of the Oan Isles' income and wealth come from these sectors therefore most of our wealth is on the Main Islands. The vast majority of the people who live on the Main Islands are of the Oatunu ethnic group. This means that the vast majority of our country's wealth is owned by a single ethnix group and opportunities for employment, education and the advancement of ones careers are reserved for the Oatunu. One can ascribe the matter to historical coincidence. The Oatunu originate from the Main Island. The Main Islands experienced economic and technological advancement faster than other parts of what is now "The Oan Isles" as the Konoa Islands (or Konoana), The Pacific and Gondwana territories were not part of The Oan Isles before 1900 when the industrial revolution occured. One scholar argued that the proximity to strategic markets and well established reputation and industry have always given the Main Islands, and the Oatunu, a competitive advantage over the other ethnic groups. I do not believe that after 117 years of unity, that this disparity in wealth and access to opportunities can still remain. There is a silent "apartheid" that presents institutional barriers to a non-Oatunu's chances of success than an Oatunu. 90% of colleges and universities are located on the Main Islands. 90 of the biggest companies are headed by Oatunu. 80% of Master and Doctoral degrees are awarded to Oatunu and 70% of Baccalaureate degrees are awarded to Oatunu. The entire National Council is made up of Oatunu. All political parties represented in Provincial and National legislatures except the Konoa People's Party are led by Oatunu. 70% of semiskilled or unskilled labourers are non-Oatunu, while 65% of skilled or academic positions are held by Oatunu. A staggering 96% of labourers in Oan Gondwana are non-Oatunu, but 54% of managerial and supervisory positions are held by Oatunu. A Konoa child is much more likely than an Oatunu to be to work as a logger, farmer, fishermen or construction worker. One could argue that high taxes and social welfare mitigate these difference. Although high taxes are charged for remuneration for labour or profits for selling goods and services, taxes on capital gains and rent are small. The property on the Main Islands has up to 10 times more value than property on other islands. This allows the Oatunu to benefit from this loophole in the tax code, in ways that a non-Oatunu cannot. Due to the heavy concentration of businesses on the Main Island, the infrastructure and public services are significantly better than the rest of the Realm. Companies and the government spend more money on beautifying the urban sprawl of the main islands that they do in any other part of the country. Crime, poverty and unemployment, while low by international standards, are vastly higher in other parts of the country than they are in the Main Islands. The non-Oatunu people experience a disproportionate amount of the social ills of this nation. Serious reforms in government, and changes in the business community and civil society need to take place to address these problems. During a crisis or war, non-Oatunu are more vulnerable. We must push for litigation, legislation and lumination to bring about a truly equal, united and free nation, to which all aspire and that must inspire others. |

STRATARIN INSULTS THE OAN ISLES Published on 13 June 2017 By Ilia Soaiawasaiye From Crystal City Of the Crystal Correspondent On 12 June 2017, the Oan National Council suspended diplomatic and economic links with our valued neighbour, Stratarin. The Oan Isles has suspended trade and travel, expelled Strataric companies and frozen Strataric assets in Oan banks, and called upon members of the SEPC to do the same. The Oan Isles is convinced that the Stratarin government has violated its SEPC treaty obligations; it is persecuting political dissidents; and supports or turns a blind eye to threats to the security and interests of the Oan Isles and its allies such as the SCE, SETZNA, AND MANY OTHERS. The Oan government presented Stratarin with a number of measures that would allow its government to restore the international community's faith and confidence. These include transferring all political prisoners to the Oan Isles, calling all ships back to port and holding an elective conference to elect a permanent leader for our friend. The Strataric Minister of Foreign Affairs responded harshly and rudely. He claimed that the Oan Isles was attempting to malign the current administration, when in fact the opposite is true. We approached the Chief of the Foreign Office, Head of Diplomacy and Member of the National Council for Foreign Affairs, Locklyn Le Roy for comment. He had this to say: "Unlike other nations which seek to bring about Stratarin's humiliation and demise, we did what any good friend would do: help our friend identify their error and provide them with paths to fix it. We are deeply saddened by Fyodr Lyvov's unkind words. We hope that sense will prevail and the Starikov administration will see that this – not any other – this, is the only way. Because we are such good friends, in spite of how we have been abused and insulted, we will create another opportunity for Stratarin to prove her innocence. We will request that a mixed panel from a number of countries adjudicate the charges we have brought forth. If Starikov trully cares about peace, he will gladly comply. We are certain that in spite of his inferior's incompetence, HE will do what is right. It is clear to us the Mr. Lyvov is untrained and unrefined, allowing his personal problems with his wife, to mar his work. We shall forgive that mistake. For now, however, we maintain our position and continue to call upon Stratarin to do the right thing, and comply with what we graciously ask". The Strataric Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not be reached for comment.[edit_reason]Missing words[/edit_reason] Edited by The Oan Isles, Jun 12 2017, 09:21:22 PM.

METATRON CITY SHELVED! METATRON CORP DISBANDED! Published on 23 June 2017 By Imani Lucim Of the La Rochelle Times From La Rochelle. The CEO of the Metatron Corporation, Celeste Uataka, announced that the Metatron City project will be cancelled with inmediate effect. The CEO stated that the decision came after a meeting of the Board of Directors and received near-unanimous acceptance. The Oan electronics giant had announced a project to build a planned city in South Staynes to house the vast majority of its electronics manufacturing projects. The project included the construction of a highway and railway from ths city to Eidenburgh in Xagrurg. Although groundbreaking for the project began on 30 May 2017 and the road and rail route was undergoing construction, both projects were cancelled. Millions of dollars have been spent of the development of the project. The CEO cited the war in Xagrurg as the primary reason for the suspension of the project. She claimed that the political, economic and social strife of the recent coup d'etat, widespread international condemnation thereof and nonviobility of the project caused for the Oan electronics giants to change its strategy and rethink its approach. The CEO announced that the company would be split into two components. The first would be the legal successor the Metatron Corporation as it currently stands. It will be called Metatron Technologies. It will be responsible for the research and development of electronics and software under the "Metatron" brand. It will simultaneously offer its expertise and resources to develop software and electronics for other companies and organisations. Former head of the Cafe Net brand in Latianburg, Niana Takatunuye, will take over as the CEO, and a new board has already been announced. The chairman will be Prince Takaloanu Ulua, eldest son of the incumbent Defender of the Realm, Ese Ulua. The second component is called Metatron Industries. Metatron Industries will be responsible for manufacturing the electronics developed by Metatron Technologies. It will also manufacture hardware for other companies. Other electronics companies can outsource their hardware manufacturing to Metatron Industries. The outgoing CEO of the Metatron Corporation, Celeste Uataka will become the CEO of the Metatron Industries. The chairman of the board will be the current CEO of Cafe Net, Etuarti Takatunuye. CEO's the new companies alread got the ground rolling, announcing ambitious new projects and goals. Niana Takatunuye announced that Metatron Technologies will be developing software for the Oan military's weapons and logistics systems – a forty year contract worth 30 billion SHD. It will work closely with the arms manufacturing company Oan National Arms Corporation, and with the military divisions of the Oan Aerospace Corporation (which produces aircraft) and the Oan Shipyards Corporation (which produces ships) to develop tech for the two firms. Celeste Uataka announced that Metatron Industries will build a new 800 million SHD facility in Amber Town near Harmony City that will expand its capacity to produce new hardware. She also announced the planned construction of a new facility in the Asian Pacific Islands worth 1,2 billion SHD. Existing factories will be demolished or leased out as industrial space. The companies plan to create at least 40,000 temporary and 40,000 new jobs in the next year, confident that the peace in the Pacific will make conditions conducive to the realisation of their ambitions. Shareholders were largely bought out for approximately 80 billion dollars. The Ulua Trust, a holdings firm owned by the Royal Family of the Oan Isles made the massive buy out, receiving 70% ownership of both companies. Standard National Bank retains its share of 30%. The "worker" ownership model is being completely phased out. Unwieldy and underproductive assets and debts were sold for a record 150 billion dollars primarily to Cafe Net, Oan Telecommunications Corporation and Amalgamated Industries (a company owned mostly by the Uye, and partly by the Uataka families that produces machines and industrial equipment) and Unified Properties (a new property firm owned by the Toaye and Salua families). The market is currently tenuous due to the announcement, although surprisingly, no major shift in the La Rochelle Stock Exchange has occured, offset by the massive purchase that the Royal Family has made. Op-Ed: The Cultural Divide: Noa vs Oa Published on 3 July 2017 By Imani Lucim For The Critic Online Newspaper From La Rochelle The Oan Isles is a diverse country. Multiple cultures and religions call our nation home. Many of us have different views ideas, influenced by where we come from, what we've been through and how we respond to that. Each of us has an idea of what is right and what is wrong for both our communities and for ourselves. Inevitably we will have our differences and our differences will create friction, arguments and altercations. Although the Konoan and Oan people have lived "together" for 100 years, but that time has not been enough to reconcile thousands of years of differences. In an article titled "Are the people truly equal", Mauia Uweleye discusses how there is an imbalance of economic opportunities and uneven distribution of resources between the Konoan people and the Oan people. The Settlement of Polynesians in the Oan Isles and their subsequent separation into Konoa and Oareatu is credited with having the biggest impact on the social and cultural differences between the Konoans and Oans, and the 19th century war which united The Oan Isles and Konoa is credited with creating the economic and political inequality between the Oans and the Konoans. Although minority rights exist, democracy empowers the majority to rule. The Konoans will inevitable have less influence on the political system than the Oan people. Oans and Konoans have very divergent cultural views. They stem from the teachings of Oa and Noa, who founded our respective cultures and nations. Oa believed in a strong social order and the pursuit of economic growth and scientific development as the only way to supress human inclination towards violence. Noa believed in a fluid social structure and a complete submission to nature in order to create lasting peace. Over the centuries that the Oan and Konoan people lived apart and developed separately, our cultures are very different. Eventually when we had to call one country home, it was difficult and as we mix more and more, it becomes harder and harder to avoid disagreeing on many things. Oan culture promotes the Oan Clan System whereby economic resources and opportunities are distributed according to a rigid hierarchy affecting economic opportunities and social status with expectations and protocol for each level. We compared how proponents for the O.C.S. defended or lauded it. Dr. Lona Satilua explained: "The Oan Clan System maintains order in a society with a high rate of competition, creates certainty of ones place and expectations within the social order". Tukan Notiseu, analyst at the Konoan Cultural Institute criticises this system, reflecting the general Konoan opinion of this system, "This system creates inequality and limits people to what society believes they can accomplish than what they possess within themselves". Naturally, the Konoan people abide by no such system, believing in a liberal and fluid system that puts forward equality above all else. The Oan people generally criticise this system for being "uncivilised", "unstable" and "dishonourable". What is clear is that both systems and cultural practices have advantages and disadvantages, and proponents and supporters from the opposite ethnic group. This makes living together and making decisions more difficult. For example the Konoan People's Party is the majority party in the Tranquility and Harmony Provinces (the combined homelands of the Konoan people) whereas the Green/Pacific Alliance is the ruling party in the other four provinces of the country and the two colonies of the country. They disagree immensely on many issues when they meet in the National Assembly (that is technically supposed to represent all of us). As they represent the two major ethnic groups, they represent how the dislike each other. Let's call a spade a spade. The Green/Pacifist Alliance in cahoots with the Democrats overrules the Konoan People's Party. By extension the Oans overrule the Konoans. The two fiercly disagree on same sex marriage (and homosexuality in general), on taxation, on social welfare, on state regulation of the economy, on protocol and manners and etiquette, on diet and lifestyle, on social relationships, on education, on healthcare, on abortion, and a range of issues. How does one mend this divide? How can differences this massive be bridged? How can our various opinions be reconciled? Two camps answer differently. One camp led by Mauia Uweleye simply says "It can't. Our divisions are too great". While the second, led by Nala Tomalua says "Understanding and education". The former seems to be greater than the latter. When an Oan child refuses to obey his Konoan teacher because she is lesser than him, or when a Konoan man hates his Oan in-laws, can there be peace and can we live together. As tensions rise from protests, boycotts, fights and insults, especially as the War in Aurora takes its toll, it seems that Raoruniseu was right when he said, "Some people just can't live together". |

Protests Erupt After State demolishes Ainuist place of worship! Published on 4 July 2017 By Ilia Soaiawasaiye From Crystal City For the Crystal Correspondent Protests erupted as part of the Occupy Church Square movement, a campaign to protest against the supposed discrimination against the Ainuist people and by extenstion the Konoan people, and the Christianisation of the government. The movement arose after 13 Ainuist places of worship and congregation were demolished by order of the Department of Religious and Cultural Affairs for failing to conform to building safety standards. According to the leaders of the congregants of the 13 places of worship, the Dalai, they were not properly consulted about the entire process or what work they needed to do. The 13 places are all spread out over the southern portion of the Oan Isles in the provinces of Crystal, Serenity, Heavenly and the Rock especially in the largest cities where the greatest concentration of Ainuists is located. Ainuism forms part of a broad group of so-called indigenous "Polynesian" religions or systems of spiritual beliefs that attempts to explain, understand and use a variety of spiritual forces, spiritual beings, nature and ancestors to solve questions about the present life and the next. Founded upon the indigenous beliefs of the Paleo-Polynesians and around the teachings of Noa, the father of the Konoan people, it shares some features of other native religions. 80% of the Konoan people practice Ainuism whereas only 1% of Oans practice it. It is regarded as a part of the culture and identity of Konoans even by Konoans who identify as Christians or otherwise. With mounting ethnic tensions, the unscrupulous demolition of these Ainuist places is seen as much a interethnic concern as it is a religious one. Civil society and politicians formed the Occupy Church Square movement to protest this action. Church Square is a massive square in the capital, La Rochelle (where the demolitions began), named after the massive Church of the Garland of Thorns. It is built in the traditional Late Polynesian style. lt is a major centre of Christian worship (which makes up the majority religion and by far the largest religion practiced by Oans). Some Oans and Christians have joined in to protest the purported oppression of their brethren. The protestors marched to the Serene Palace, the residence of the Oan head of state the Defender, to present a memorandum of complaint. Prince Oaloanu received the complaint on the Defender's behalf. In the meanwhile there are many demostrations throughout the country: sit-ins, picketing, and marches at state and local government institutions. This situation has fermented the anger of the Konoan people as a whole. Mauia Uweleye has led the charge of the movement, calling on swift action to correct the injustice that Konoans are under. |

80 OAN SOLDIERS BURNT TO DEATH! PROTESTS ERUPT! Published on 11 July 2017 By Titus Manuotukakakolua From Heavenly City For the Heavenly Herald 80 Oan soldiers were killed, burnt to death, yesterday during a battle for a coal powerplant in the capital city in the Dominion of Yor. The Oan soldiers were part of an operation, coordinated with the CIF, an offensive counterinsurgency unit from Furnifold, to take two critical pieces of infrastructure: the waterworks and powerplant. With the Imperial Xagrurgian government cutting off water and electricity to areas of the city occupied by the Allied forces, primarily those suburban areas in the south of city particularly Malcolm Park. Fearing a humanitarian crisis and civil unrest, Colonel Satiye ordered an attack on the powerplant to be led by Captain Paloeniye. The attack was a disaster; the Oans encountered a significantly larger force than they had expected and any clandestine attempts to enter and take over the plant were thwarted. Fighting ensued outside, until the wood surrounding the powerplant burst into flames, killing an estimated 80 Oan soldiers. Preliminary investigations suggest that the Xagrurgians had laid a cruel and ruthless trap for the soldiers, one into which they fell head first due to purported poor leadership, bad information and deteriorating weather and health conditions in the chilling cold. With news of the attack reaching the Oan Isles, the Oan people were collectively shocked and agrieved by this brutal action. The largely passice legislature, the National Assembly, dominated by an alliance of environmentalists and pacifists, which seemed obedient to the Defender and National Council, and willfully oblivious to their circumvention of the law, was agitated. An extraordinary session was called and the pacifist leader and presiding officer, Uiatomaeni Tilotananaye called for a bill to be tabled to reassess Oan involvement in the war, while strongly considering leaving the war. In an impassioned plea, Head of the Defence Portfolio and Political leader of the Military, Admiral Kiahuaeni Luawuye, called for a resolute response and clear minded analysis of the events that occurred, attempting to convince the angry National Assembly to increase rather than decrease support for the war effort. She said the following:
Chief Whip of the Pacifist Alliance rebutted, Abigail Tokarunulua, furiously defying the Admiral. She said the following:
The exchange went back and forth, the debate was raucous, an unusual sight in the ornamented Hall of the People. It was a small reflection of the general anger of the populace. Grassroots organisation especially those within or affiliated with the Pacifist/Green Alliance and the Konoan Peoples Party, organised rallies and marches, sit ins and wreath laying ceremonies to mourn the deaths of the soldiers and countless others who have died in the war, and to protest the Oan Isles' continued participation in the war. The vigilant police maintained a firm presence to prevent violence. Although the protests were largely peaceful, the mass mobilisation of such a large amount of people is staggering and an aggressive move by civil society to stand against violence. Crowd specialists have analysed a total 100,000 people, among 1,000,000 people throughout the country, who marched to the Serene Palace to protest against the war. After a standoff with the police that lasted an hour, Crown Prince Oaloanu ordered the guards to allow the marchers to enter the massive two-football-fields-sized lawn on the grounds of the palace. Marchers led by Mauia Uweleye demanded that the government step out to answer for their crimes. In an unprecedented display of humility, the Prince, dressed in sackcloth and with his typically long and lustrous head of hair cut off, sat quietly on the stairs to the entrance. Mauia Uweleye walked to him, bowed and lay his head at the Prince's feet. The rest of the crowd followed, lying on the ground in obeisance and respect. The crowd was absolutely silent for a several minutes. The Prince stood up and took Mauia Uweleye's loudspeaker and addressed the crowd, simply saying "Troubles come in the evening, but joy cometh in the morning". He declared a day of mourning, ordering all people to assemble in public spaces such as churches, stadiums and plazas, dressed in sackcloths with their hair covered or cut off to mourn those who died in war, to support their families and to share their experiences and perspectives. The edict came into force immediately, with millions pouring into the streets to stand in silence and honour those who died in the war. Although the course of the war is unclear, the resolve of the Oan people to stand by their ideals of pacifism are clearer than ever. |

CEASEFIRE DECLARED! COMMISSION OF INQUIRY SET UP TO INVESTIGATE OAN INVOLVEMENT IN THE WAR FOR YOR Published on 17 July 2017 By Kanokitanaha Wawiyalua From Heavenly City For the Heavenly Herald A ceasefire was declared that effectively ends the war for Yor and the war between the Staynish-Caltharus Empire and the Greater Xagrurgian Empire. Yor will be partitioned into a north and south, and Allied forces will be forced to leave the northern part of Yor which will remain part of Xagrurg and South Yor will be reincorporated into an independent republic. A demilitarised zone will be set up on the border between the SCE and GXE. As part of the PKFU, the Oan Isles will provide manpower and money maintain the peace in the country. In light of which, Presiding Officer of the National Assembly and Leader of the Pacifist-Green Alliance, Uiatomaeni Tilotananaye, announced the formation of a Commission of Inquiry to be nominated from and elected by the parties of the National Assembly to investigate Oan involvement in the War for Yor with the power of subpoena. As it is not a judicial body, it cannot conduct trials or issue judgements and punishments. It can only investigate matters and question witnesses and issue an advisory report to the National Assembly. It has been formed with Chief Whip of the Pacifist Alliance, Abigail Tokarunulua, being the chairperson. The Commission immediately cleared the present Defender, Ese Ulua, and the Crown Prince who acted as Regent, Oaloanu, of any wrongdoing in the war and upheld their immunity in terms of the constitution. The Konoan People's Party issued a statement in which it expressed irs frustration that the primary leaders of the war effort could not be held to account. The Chairman of the National Council, Locklyn Le Roy, declared on the behalf of the whole National Council, that it held collective responsibility for the war and would cooperate fully with the commission. This comes on the heals of a march to the Serene Palace that reflects the frustrations of civil society about the war and their imposition of blame on the central government. The Konoan People's Party said that it will staunchly maintain protest movements and ensure that the relevant people are held to account. Some have strongly called for the independence of Konoa from the Oan Isles. |

Edited 18 October 2017 REFERENDUM FOR INDEPENDENCE PLANNED FOR THIS WEEK SATURDAY Published on 3 August 2017 By Aiaroa Takomotua From Heavenly City For the Crystal Correspondent On 20 July 2017, the leader of the Konoan People's Party, Mauia Uweleye An Act of the National Assembly has been drafted by the Konoan The bill provides the 5th of August, this week Saturday, as the date of the referendum. The vote for the bill to be debated was motioned by MNA Rotanu Ehelua and seconded by MNA Takalo Kanumataye. The Chief of the National Assembly set the time for 08H00 this morning. A debate was held lasting until 12H30. After a five minute recess a vote was motioned, seconded and motioned. The bill was passed as the August MMXVII Independence Referendum Act and signed by the Crown Prince, Oaloanu, in his capacity as the Regent of the Oan Isles at 12H40 at the Serene Palace, bringing the law into effect. The Independent Electoral Agency will administer the election. The Director issued a statement at 13H10 that states that the IEA will be printing the papers with two one question that reads as thus: "SHOULD KONOA BECOME AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY? YES or NO" and "SHOULD EASE POLYNESIA BECOME AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY? YES or NO". The referendum will be limited to the residents of those prospective countries. Even if the referendum passes, the National Assembly will have the sole power to pass a law that will put the referendum vote into effect and dictate the conditions for the process. The Joint Central Committee of the Pacifist and Green Alliance has already drafted a proposal that it will submit to a National General Conference on at 15H00. The proposal creates a condition that should the The legality of the proposal is disputed. National Court Judge, Tilia Alimatikelua has already debunked the idea. Independence is unconditional and the matter of a personal union and intergovernmental organisation will have to be addressed by the governments of such countries, should these countries come to exist. The Secretary General of the Pacifist Party has already stated that even if the proposal is not put into the bill that will effect independence, it will be a proposal in negotiations should these countries exist. A reasonable timeline will be put forth and conditions will be discussed regarding citizenship, but speculation holds that a Constituent Assembly will become part of the proposed law, and upon drafting and passing a Constitution The Serene Palace has remained mum on the matter and was unavailable for comment. The collective responsibility of the Members of the National Council been waived to allow them to speak on the topic freely, and they all have released statements in support of it. XAGRURGIAN KIRIB UNDER ATTACK Published on 3 August 2017 From Heavenly City For the Heavenly Herald By Adam Uatukaminilua The Oan Ambassador to the Auroran Continental Assembly, Stephen Realua, presented a Proposal to the Auroran Parliament and the Auroran Council of Heads of State. In this proposal, he requested that the Auroran Continental Bank is ordered to effectively financial, monetarily and economically disable the Greater Xagrurgian Empire.
These measure will do two things: reduce the availability of money and render what little money is available worthless. What does this mean? This means that the state will not be able to pay doctors, nurses, teachers, police and soldiers, among many others. Companies will not be able to buy and sell across borders. Remittances will not be able to enter Xagrurg or any profits that are made by Xagrurgian companies outside of Xagrurg cannot enter it. People will not be able to access their money if it is held in Auroran banks. Banks such as LabiaTurtle Bank and Standard National Bank will be watched closely over the coming days for their reply. Naturally investors will pull their money out of Xagrurg in preparation for an asset freeze. The Oan Financial Institute, a ratings employed by governments and companies to determine the amount of risk involved in making investments, has downgraded Xagrurg to junk status. This indicates that the country is a HIGH investment risk and the chances of losing money are high. Already Oan investors such the Metatron Corporation have pulled out billions from infrastructure development projects and Xagrurgian weapons and technology rusts as one of their biggest consumers, the Oan Isles looks elsewhere. The Financial Institute also published a memorandum encouraging rating agencies in the world's major financial capitals (Sani Bursil in Staynes, Aura in Emberwood Coast, Lutherburg in Kuthernburg and Elizabeth in South Hills) to downgrade Xagrurg to JUNK STATUS as well. The Financial Insititute has the following gloomy prospects for Xagrurg:
Clearly, the Oans are going in for the kill. Edited by The Oan Isles, Aug 3 2017, 07:54:13 AM.

PAMPLETS DROPPED IN XAGRURG Published on 3 August 2017 From La Rochelle By Imani Lucim For The La Rochelle Times The Oan Air Defence Service Chief, Brigadier Aliteli Matokolua announced that the Air Force had successfully implemented the first phase of OPERATION FREEDOM. 13 Unmanned Non-combat Aerial Vehicles (UAV) were flown over Xagrurg earlier this morning carrying a surprising but powerful payload: pamplets. Yes. PAMPLETS! 11 UAVs were shot down and/or blown to dust by the Xagrurgian anti aircraft guns. But they certainly delivered their payload. They were sent to deploy pamphlets in major cities: Fort Washington, Imperium, Laona and Eidenburgh. The pamplets were simple to understand and read as thus:
The pamplet feature a graphic image of a General in the junta skewering a Xagrurgian woman with a large sword. 4 million pamphlets were dropped. More and more will be dropped. 6 million pamplets were dropped in Kostoria-Obertonia. 4 million were dropped in Nuremkastel alone. They read as thus:
The OADS plans to drop 100 million more over the next few months. Edited by The Oan Isles, Aug 3 2017, 08:24:49 AM.

Edited: 18 October 2017 PRE REFERENDUM CAMPAIGN Published on 4 August 2017 By Tamar Salamotikalua From Tukanoaeni For the Tuka Times There has been excitement and apprehension over what independence for parts of the Oan Isles will mean. Among other things they will have the right to:
Ultimately they will have their own voice and they shall be the sole masters of their own destinies. This process enables people of different ethnic groups to have a nation that is their own and made in their own image. These developments have reassured some people, but without the backing of a law, they remain vessels that cannot hold water. The final draft of such a law by the Joint Committee of the Greens and Pacifists has the follow major features:
The Konoa People's Party has already drafted a basic document for Konoa
The proposed East Polynesian constitution has the following conditions:
The Pacifists and the Greens have proposed that the Oan Isles that is left would retain its current political system. The proposal for the formation of the Polynesian Union of the Oan Isles (the long form of its name) has received strong support. We'll have to wait for the referendum result to know where we are going next, but we seem headed in the right direction. Edited by The Oan Isles, Oct 18 2017, 02:40:52 AM.
