AUHZAL LAU, ASCOTIA - 0430, 27.12.2017 (MCN Exclusive) - The Aegion (Chamberlain) has a new reason to celebrate this holiday season, following the official announcement of his reappointment to the Chamberlaincy of Greater Masuicca early Wednesday, MCN Online confirmed. The new term in the 'Big Chair' was not unexpected, but for the Honourable Draven M. Lothridge, the much-anticipated call was simply the feather in his cap after another productive, successful term as Aegion of the Halcyonic Empire.

"This was the only correct play, as far as the Empire was concerned," Jan Sistru, Chairman Emeritus of the Political Sciences Department at Salin Vicha College commented when contacted by MCN Online for a reaction. "You don't swap horses in the middle of a stream; Aegion Lothridge earned reappointment through his sterling record. No need to change what isn't broken."

Foreign Minister Caidor Achasson and current-Harthion Cailben Bara were rumored as potential dark horses in the race.

The upcoming term for Lothridge will be his fifth consecutive since assuming the Chamberlaincy from his mentor, Elia Nires in 2000. The 49-year old Aegion had previously served as Se Conselur for Her Grace, bringing twenty-plus years of private sector experience with him as an economic adviser to the Empress. Veritas-HEGM has independently ranked him as the third-most effective Chamberlain of the past century, and the highest ranking Chamberlain in both overall national popularity and material support of the Taethon in more than thirty years - both factors that weighed heavily on the decision to reappoint him to a fifth term.

"He mixes economic prowess with diplomatic tact," Sistru commented. "You get the best of both worlds with him. Someone that has the pulse of the Empress, and someone who resonates loudly with the people."

An official press release from Chamberlain Lothridge's office was expected later Wednesday.[edit_reason]Added Content[/edit_reason]

AESA HANNE, ASCOTIA – 2130 (10.01.2018) – After six years of interminable waiting, the Akadian Wunderkind has finally found gold. Nilor Drome, the number-one ranked contender in the men’s heavyweight division of Masuicca’s top CBA circuit defeated arch-nemesis and reigning-Heavyweight Champion Thafe Thurmler on Wednesday night, capping off an improbable return to form for the prizefighter. The event, watched on closed-circuit TV by an estimated 4.2 million people from the RIN Forum in Aesa Hanne, is estimated to be the most watched-boxing match since Noaks-Wasak II in 1977.

“This title means more to me than anything,” Drome said in the ring after the official decision was rendered. “People said I wouldn’t be back here. I proved a lot of doubters wrong.”

Once considered to be a promising heavyweight prospect, Drome was on the fast-track to stardom, having landed a much-anticipated Christmas Day fight in 2011 with Thurmler, who has held the heavyweight ranks on lockdown for the last decade. The fight went the full fifteen, with a split-decision allowing Thurmler to escape with his title. A rematch seemed inevitable, but tragedy struck three months later when the car Drome was traveling in struck a tree during a downpour. The accident left the boxer in the hospital for six months; his trainer and financial manager, Makur Sada was killed in the accident.

Many thought Nilor would never fight again, needing two months of physical therapy just to use his arm again, which had been severely injured in the crash. It took him almost two years before he could get back to the ring, returning to the third division where young prospects arrive and old fighters go to retire. With each successive fight, however, the Wunderkind began to show flashes of the promise that had marked his first ascent to glory. After returning to the top circuit in 2016, many knew that it would only be a matter of time before the return match with Thurmler would be signed.

“We waited so long for this,” Drome lamented in the ring, almost in tears. “I never thought this day would come. Damn, we worked hard for this.”

The fight progressed eerily similar to their first encounter in 2011, with Nilor peppering Thrumler with blazing-fast combinations, actually scoring a knockdown early in the fourth round. Then, in the middle-rounds, the Heavyweight Champion began to return fire with a series of massive uppercuts that dazed the contender, putting him on defense for the next four rounds. As the fight approached its final round, many believed that the bout risked going to another close decision. But with two minutes left in the match, Thurmler’s attempt to counter a jab into the short ribs left his chin exposed. One uppercut from Drome, and the fight was over.

Tonight, with the late Sada’s son, Mhabu standing in his father’s stead, the dream that had been so close six years before finally came true. “My father, he love Nilor like his son,” he repeated during the post-match press conference. “He would be very proud of his two sons tonight.”

“This was for Makur. This was for him,” Mhabu said.

The former champion refused to speak at the press conference, but his manager Frit Drubo confirmed that his fighter would be exercising his rematch clause. The fight would probably not take place until next autumn: both Drome and Thurmler will be part of the Masuiccan National Team as the Halcyonic Empire takes part in the Azur-Masuiccan Grand Prix Series in June. If and when the rematch is signed, however, it is expected to net the biggest monetary advance in the history of Masuiccan boxing.

For Drome, talk of rematches meant little in the excitement of his victory. “I put the world on notice. The best heavyweight fighter sleeps in Masuicca tonight!”

On the undercard this evening, the Second Circuit’s Dwasa Krol defeated top-contender Gorlan Haan via decision to retain his Junior Welterweight Championship, while rising heavyweight contender Kridu Taite dominated Dufun Kalar, scoring a third-round stoppage from the referee. Also in action, Drila Kroge defeated Viki Thub in the first women’s bantamweight match to be held in Aesa Hanne in over five years.

The next CBA circuit event will be held in Luollond on February 7th.
