North South Concordian Treaty News![]() NSTO trains Duelland Security Forces to strengthen demining skills In January and Febuary this year, a mobile training team led by Nacata conducted a training course in manual demining for Duelland Security Forces. This was held in Duelland in the framework of NSTO's training and capacity building activities in support of Duelland security forces and institutions. It was developed and implemented in coordination with the NSTO Core Team in Duelland. Twenty-one students from the Ministry of Defense attended the course. Upon completion seventeen of them were certified as instructors; four were awarded with certificates of basic demining."Most of the students were experienced explosive ordnance disposal personnel and were really eager to learn new techniques," the Commander of the Nacatan Training Team, 2nd Lieutenant Veshmere Cabovsy, said. Following the liberation of West Atiland, more clearance of explosives is required. Civilians are often the victims, as the Insurgents are reported to have planted bombs and other explosive devices in heavily populated areas, as well as in schools and parks. To deal with this, NSTO is helping to build a sustainable demining capacity by conducting a series of training activities for future instructors. "Our contribution is focused exclusively on carrying out training tasks and on providing advice and assistance in support of the Duelland and Atiland forces," 2nd Lieutenant Cabovsy highlighted. |

NSTO begins the final phase of its move to a new home NSTO started today the last part of its move to its new headquarters in Burdels. Over the next 14 weeks, around 8000 people NSTO civilian and military staff, as well as 5 national delegations will transfer to their new offices. With more than 254,000 m2 of space, the new headquarters brings together in one working space the diplomatic and military delegations from 9 Allied nations, along with NSTO civilian and military staff. The building has been designed to resemble interlocking fingers, symbolising NSTO's unity and cooperation. The new headquarters is a "green building" which is expected to be 60% more energy efficient. Its windows take maximum advantage of natural light, which will reduce electricity use. The geo-thermal heating and cooling system uses the constant temperature beneath the surface of the ground to heat the building during the winter and cool it in summer. This new building is an important investment for the future. It will help the Alliance not only to make the best use of technology, but also to stay flexible and adaptable, innovative and creative. NSTO will remain fully operational throughout the move. Secretary General’s Annual Report: The Alliance is Stepping Up Presenting his Annual Report on Thursday, NSTO Secretary General said that "in an unpredictable world, the Alliance is stepping up to keep our nations safe". The report shows that, in 2017, Gondwana allies and Atlantian increased spending on defence by almost 5% meaning there have now been four consecutive years of growth since 2013. Allies have also made progress on investing in new capabilities. In 2017, six llies spent more in real terms on major equipment than the year before. "All NSTO members have pledged to continue to increase defence spending in real terms. The majority have already put in place plans on how to meet the 3% guideline by 2024. And we expect others to follow”, the Secretary General said. The Report also shows that NSTO Allies are contributing more to operations and missions. At the end of 2017, there were over 18,000 troops serving in NSTO deployments, up from just under 7,000 in 2013, before Xagrurg illegal annexation of K-O and the rise of Al-Jaheed. "This is an increase of around 50%", the Secretary General said. For the year 2018 NSTO is slated to increased deployed forces to over 24,000 by the end of the year, with new missions coming up such as Operation Free Spirit which is set at protecting the Strait of Borea where the three nations of Kuthernbrug, Kyrloth, and Trukya converge. The Trukya conflict has raised eyes across the international community and NSTO is already sending ships to protect the international waterways, and hope that the conflict in Trukya comes to a swift conclusion. |
