Urth Songfestival IV Title: Urth Songfestival IV to be hosted in Free Syllvin Date: 31 March 2018 Author: Fatima Muhammadu
Free Syllvin is ready to host the fourth edition of the Urthvision Songfestival. The organizing team opened submissions for the event. Many nations are expected to participate. This event follows Hama's successful hosting of the event last month. Hama had been accorded the opportunity to host the third edition after it's song, "Am I Wrong", won the second edition hosted in Caltharus. Free Syllvin won the edition hosted in Hama and won the right to host the event. The overseeing authority for Hama's participation in the event is expected to announce whether Hama will participate. It is widely expected that the authority will participate.
The structure of the event has been very fluid since the first edition in Blueacia in January. Generally the hosts have kept to a consistent format, albeit Hama made slight changes to the voting structure in the previous addition. Free Syllvin has made a number of proposals that are awaiting confirmation from the Urthvision participant states and overseeing bodies that will make the event more professional. We are awaiting further confirmation on what these changes will be and how they will affected nations that intend to participate.

Arms Deal with Xagrurg Title: Arms manufacturing deal struck with General Guns Date: 31 March 2018 Author: Salamu Aslamu
The government of Hama has struck a deal with the Xagrurgian company General Guns to construct an arms manufacturing plant in Hama. The government offered General Guns a three billion kirib contract to build the facility. A spokesperson for the ministry of defence spoke to reporters and says that the project will promote economic development, retention and development of critical skills in engineering and development of science and technology. The government wants to remain on par with if not ahead of the "best" countries in the world (as the spokesperson put it). He stated that the role that Hama is to play in an increasingly belligerent and connected world is to prepare for offensive and defensive, symmetric and asymmetric, conventional and unconventional warfare.
The government has been thin on details on where or when the facility will be constructed. Possible sites include the cities of Komodu and Kahiru, the two largest and most developed cities in the nation, or even cities in other Hamanian territories. We will update you on any information we receive when it becomes available. No timeline has been set for the completion of the project. The master plan will be revealed in due time.
One of the key issues is the nature of the contract. So far the facility will produce weapons for the military, paramilitary and police of Hama and its territories. To make the facility profitable, for General Guns, and sustainable, for the Hamanian government, it will have to take into consideration exporting weapons to other nations. The government also aims to expand facilities such as these over time and make Hama a major producer of industrial chemicals, steel and machinery.

Abrahamic University of South Hills celebrates 100 years Title: Abrahamic University of South Hills celebrates 100 years of existence Date: 1 April 2018 Author: Fatima Muhammadu
Main Campus, Jackson Hole, South HillsThe Abrahamic University of South Hills is celebrating its 100 years of existence. The university was founded on 1 April 1918. It is a major institute of learning and research located in the city of Jackson Hole in South Hills. The university is an important institution for the history of the Abrahamist religion in South Hills. Proselytes from Hama were sent to South Hills in the early nineteenth century. They lived in the city of West Mifflin. They preached in the streets and distributed books of faith to passers-by. They were largely ignored, sometimes they were ostracized. They traveled to hospitals and orphanages offering food and blankets and spreading the Abrahamic message. People warmed up to their message and began attending lessons and holding discussions in the living quarters of the proselytes. Word spread and more people became interested. The proselytes moved the meetings from their private quarters to the West Mifflin civic hall. They held Saturday meetings here. The crowds grew larger. They had many opponents. Established authorities in West Mifflin were wary of the Abrahamic religion and the Hamanian influence it brought. The Sheriff was sent to disperse their meeting and give an order to shutdown any further meetings in the civic hall. One of the converts was a wealthy land owner who owned a farm outside of Jackson Hole. He offered the land to the proselytes. The proselytes moved to Jackson Hole. The West Mifflin congregation met in small groups in people's houses and in private halls. The proselytes built the first house of worship. It was a wooden structure. It caught fire and a new house of worship was built from stone. A clinic and school were built as well. People received treatment and children were taught in the Abrahamic tradition. The proselytes remained in contact with and visited the West Mifflin congregation. They also began teaching and building houses of worship in other cities and small towns such as Elizabeth and Buena Vista. Jackson Hole remaind the center of the Abrahamic religion in South Hills. In 1890 the South Hills National Council for the Abrahamic faith decided to build a university on the grounds of the farm using funds donated by the believers. They received a permit for the construction from the City Council of Jackson Hole. Work began in 1891. There were several delays and challenges. In 1893 they could procure building materials. In 1897 there was a landslide that killed two people and destroyed the original building. They were able to resume work in 1900. Firmer foundations were laid and a retaining wall was built. There was continuous contruction for 18 years. The university campus, consisting of only four buildings, was opened. It was known as the Abrahamic College of South Hills. The central hall, which stands today, was the house of worship. The east building had classrooms and lecture theatres while the west building had a library and administrative offices. The remaining two buildings were residences from male and female staff and pupils. The college only provided degrees on Abrahamic theology that were accredited by the Department of Education of Hama. In 1930 the college received the right to teach and conduct research in secular topics. Its name was changed to the Abrahamic University of South Hills. It offered degrees in humanities, arts, mathematics, economics and accounting. It expanded its academic offering to other faculties such as engineering and science. In 1960, the university purchased land to the west of Jackson Hole and built the health campus at the center of which is the Ibrahimu Academic Hospital. The university has 10000 undergraduate and 5000 post graduate pupils. It has 1000 academic staff and 2000 additional staff. It receives an endowment of 1.5 billion kiribs from student fees, 700 million kiribs from the Hamanian government, 500 million kiribs from the McKeesport State government, 400 million from AUSH, 300 million from private sector funding and 20 million Kiribati from alumni donations. It is a sui generis among universities in South Hills. While the university itself owns the land it is built on the property that it works in, the university is owned in trust by the Abrahamic Union of South Hills rather than the government or a private company. The head of the university is the Principal, Dr William Chase, who is assisted by head of administration Rector Dr Alice Watson and head of academics Rector Dr Liam Greywood. University Council makes decisions on the running of the university. It is primarily comprised of religious leaders, but staff, students and representatives of the state government of McKeesport and the imperial government of Hama are allowed to speak. The Student Congress represents the student body while the Student Council manages their affairs. The Senate represents the academic staff. Each College is helmed by a Dean. It is a member of the International Union of Abrahamic Universities (IUAU).

Hamanian National News Broadcast The Yunonian government has purchased land and opened up investment. While the promise of returns and economic growth is alluring, will it really offer what it promises? This article will explore if this rising tiger really has the "teeth" to enter a competitive environment and deliver salient benefits to stakeholders.
Is the Yunonian Tiger toothless? On the 17th of February, the government of the jingoistic imperialist state of Yuno (that has an unsettling pagan cult of personality around its ruler, Lilith, the Loligarch) purchased a large amount of land for approximately 15 million dollars as per approximations from the Royal Property Company. The land had a great deal of economic potential, which attracted investors from Fortuna and Kuthernburg, who were able to consolidate control over the mineral extraction and property development sectors of that area with remarkable speed.
Fortuna's Fletcher Mining, a company that is currently exploring for fossil fuels, primarily petroleum and natural gas, in the Pacific Ocean, is reported to have expressed interest in mineral exploration in that land. Kuthernburg property developers were quick to recognise the financial possibilities of tourism, residential space and public infrastructure - the primary focus of their development investment. An automobile manufacturing company from Duelland constructed a plant in the area.
Yuno has many attractive characteristics. It has cheap labour and land. Unfortunately it has poor infrastructure and access to capital. It is remarkable that these projects have been undertaken at all. The Kuthernburg property development is most likely to result in massive vacancies and many of the projects falling flat.
Although the average total costs are remarkably low, so too is the normal profit. In this sense the entrepreneur's opportunity cost is fairly low, but in a country in which the average income is low, the chances of making money that will allow the Kutherns to keep buoyant on their financial commitments, particularly to their creditors, is very unlikely.
The Duelland investment is one of the most salient examples of bad investment. They do not have access to the technical expertise available in more developed countries. They need to expend incredible amounts on establishing reliable electricity and water. They to invest a great amount of money on skills development. Depending on whether they use long or short production lines, they might barely cover their variable costs. As to whether they can cover their fixed costs, that is yet to be seen. Oan auditing company, Īta Marama, published a report that broadly called the investment "doomed to failure".
One of the challenges to investment in Yuno is that of transparency, rule of law, accountability and reliable governance that make large scale investments profitable. The structural framework that makes it possible for manufacturers to thrive, will be difficult. Patent protection and good faith in transactions cannot be assured. We can expect decreasing returns to scale as time goes in the long run. Another major challenge is the convertibility of the porcelain doll. Traders face significant import duties and conversion fees. The domestic market for the consumption of the goods and services that investors are trying to introduce is not large enough to support the projects that they have undertaken.
The Yunonian government will need to introduce tangible reforms. Within its limited means, it will have to be pragmatic. The primary area of focus should be to tackle corruption, bureaucratic red-tape and structural inefficiency. In the medium term, they can lower trade barriers and make the porcelain doll more easily convertible. In the medium long term, serious investment in education and land reform will definitely aid their people and make the Yunonian economy significantly more attractive.

IMPENDING DOOM OF ARMS SECTOR! By Rajulu Rahamanii
The arms industry on Urth is going to implode! Many of the lobbyists in the capitols of the world would scoff at such a diagnosis. They have been to profit from the spoils of war for a very long time and by spawning new conflicts, they believe that they will be able to continue this gravy train. Well, I have news for you: this industry is facing serious collapse.
Firstly the only country with a serious customer base is Free Syllvin. By "serious customer base" I mean a base of clients who are consistently ordering new weapons and paying their credit and buying parts. This is due to brilliant marketing and advertising on the part of Free Syllvin manufacturers. They realised the importance of getting their product out there long before major manufacturers took the marketing side of things very seriously. Producers of weapons in Free Syllvin consolidated their client base under one active and detailed consigner, Dirt Cheap.
Dirt Cheap might be a bit of a misnomer since weapons of any kind no matter how simple they may seem to be are still expensive. Nations are spending around 4 to 6% of their total economic output on weapons, preparing for wars that barely ever come. The Auroran Pacific War was a bit of drama last year, but otherwise, they've been keeping large technologically advanced armies to accrue dust and look threatening. A Staynish psychologist hit the nail on the head when he said that there is megalomania and paranoia among many of the leaders of Urth that fuels this irrational and dangerous obsession with arms and war.
Other than Free Syllvin, the rest of the world is facing a serious and unprecedented crisis in the defence sector. Most other manufacturers are not acquiring enough contracts to stay profitable. They are simply milking state funds to stay open, investing in research and development that leads nowhere. Production lines creek from rust and workers sit idle without work.
Many of the nations on Urth are in denial about this perilous state of affairs and will continue to deny it. The people of the Urth must ask serious questions and hold their leaders to account. This state of affairs is not sustainable and without the concerted will to change it, the defence sector faces imminent collapse. The Kuthern company kAE Industries has been dangerously experimenting with charitable donations of arms to organisations such as the PeaceKeeping Forces of Urth just to get their name out there. General Guns has been running around on a haphazard mission asking for work. The Hamanian government gave them a tender to build a factory and make weapons, but this is not sustainable.
These companies should sell their assets and dismantle some of their companies. They should redirect R&D funds into telecommunications, electronics and construction. There should be serious advertising and marketing on the part of manufacturers to attract clients. Many people stand to lose their jobs, towns will lie abandoned and the world will go into recession as the bloated arms industry of the world collapses under its own weight. | SPONSORED AD
 | KOMODU WARRIORS CRUSH KAHIRU FIGHTERS By Adillah Sulaymanu
The Komodu Warriors had an impressive match with the Kahiru Fighters earlier today. The Premier Football League was in full swing. The match ended with a 2-0 score. The Komodu Warriors were consistently on form. They bravely defended their goalposts and assailed the Fighters' posts.
Props to the Fighters for ball possession. But you need a little more than ball possession to get the score. You need a solid midfield and striker team. The Warriors' Rashidu Malahatu ket the midfield solid, making several assists that nearly landed Fighter's deeper in the mud. He's not one for fancy footwork, getting by with solid attacks and effective communication with the strikers and wings. The strikers, Limahidu Yavadinu and Wawida Wasewale each scored a goal. They played extremely well, sharing the responsibility of dribbling through the unprepared Fighters' defence.
There were definitely some close calls. Kashiru Thayimu of the Fighters managed to get the ball through the box but missed his chance as the ball hit the crossbar. Fans were devastated as the one chance that the fighters had to turn the tide of the match vanished before them. Morale down, the Fighters were vulberable and the Warriors capitalised on this and made their decisive victory. The Warriors have secured their place in the Knockout Stage while the Fighters must fend off the Ahamadu Giants to get their spot.
Tune one Royal Sports Network on satellite or live streaming to see their match on 10 May 2018. |

SHOWTIME IN POLLOK! By Rajulu Rahamani
The government of Nacata has prepared an international showcase of military assets and tactics in the city of Pollok. The event is a display of military might, a test of the strategies and plans for warfare that the Nacatan military apparatus has prepared for defensive and offensive warfare, an opportunity to attract clients and a chance for nations with similar interests and ideals, to collaborate on defence planning and policy. The event is part of a circulation of military exercises that move among nations of a complex alliance of former and existing territories of the Kalatianburg Empire and its successor state called Kuthernburg. It allows the alliance to reenforce and strengthen the relationship between its nations and to display their combined willingness and capacity to defend each other.
There will be an estimated deployment of around 6,000 personnel. We did not receive a number of the arms that will be used. According to the government spokesperson: "The event is designed to build team spirit among the contestants partnered against terrorism. The competition also facilitates the sharing of best-practices, technology and hardware, through gear and weapons displays, team exercises, solo events, one-on-one engagement, live demonstrations by international [arms manufacturers]. The competition breeds cohesion [among and] within special operations forces and law enforcement units, and provides a yardstick for unit performance and exposes strengths and weaknesses in unit and individual skill sets".
There will be new technology on display. kAE Industrials will present its new 5th generation fighter jets. These planes are already in production. The F18 Advanced Hornet and the F-15 Silent Eagle are already being used or in the process of being introduced into the air forces of Kuthernburg. Nacata will be displaying some current technology such as the B-2 Bomber. Although they officially started using it in the Auroran Imperial War (of the 1970s), Nacata will be taking a more prominent role instead of Kuthernburg this time round. There is some speculation that the Royal Shipwrights Company might display military hardware at the event. When we contacted the RSC offices at the Anchorage, they were not available for comment.
This event will be an interesting and exciting showcase and remains one of the most highly anticipated events of the military and arms manufacturing calendar.
OOC: This article is based on the events of this thread and an interview with King Rico | SCIENCE EXPO A MAJOR SUCCESS By Lihadu Danwiru
The Komodu Institute for Science and Technology (known as KIST) hosted the annual Science and Technology Expo. It was an opportunity for well-established and new companies to display the products that they had to offer. The expo also featured entertainment and educational material for the public. The event allowed industrial and private consumers to interact with producers, find the latest bargains and new techniques. The event featured a multitude of products and displays.
The Science and Technology Expo (recently marketed as SciTech) was started by a public and corporate initiative of the government and companies such as the Royal Shipwrights Company to encourage the technology sector in the country. The rapid development of new technology and its consolidation into the education system from an early age has placed Hama at a significant advantage over many other nations. But we need to do more to promote the sector and keep it viable. Events such as these are definitely helpful at promoting the sector.
While a good party (as some would call the expo) is not a bad thing, it must be followed with structures that cultivate and nurture this sector. In the past ten years, the government has increased emphasis on mathematics, language, science and technology in the public education system. The government has increased funding for and encouraged corporations to contribute to research and development. Science and technology-focused research has received more funds. The KIST endowment now exceeds the endowment of traditional universities such as the Abrahamic University of Hama and the University of Komodu. Hama has the legal infrastructure that supports and respects intellectual property rights.
The government should also create incentives for foreign companies to start operations in our country. The government should establish science and technology special zones with the infrastructure to attract foreign companies. Moreover, it should consolidate the tax code so that companies that are IP-heavy can restructure their tax obligations to maximise their profits. This will attract companies and increase revenues for Hama. We are, however, confident that the plans to expand science and technology in other centres of the empire such as Abadulahu and Ahamadu will go a long way into the economic and social development of Hamanian imperial subjects.

UNPACKING THE VALOKCHIA COUP By Miryamu Asmalahu
Earlier this year, the nation of Valokchia was rocked by a coup d'etat. The Royal Times wants to unpack and understand the event, its context and consequences. We have interviewed Valokchians on both sides of the political divided and collected reports from sources who have all asked to remain anonymous.
Th primary figure who orchestrated the coup is Sergio Pavlovic. He is the Leader of the Vulpine Socialist Nationalist Party. Otto Kurtz helped him carry out his plan to overthrow the government at the time. This man responsible for the assassinations of various senior political figures in Valokchia. An obscure, but infamous, conspirator behind and/or proponent of the coup is Vokuta Razlovich who assassinated Danilo Pejic, the former head of state of Valokchia. This coup is said to have arisen from the social, political and economic injustices and inequalities purveyed by the previously human-led government under Danilo Pejic. The coup arose from the vulpines feeling disenfranchised and discriminated against. Danilo Pejic is said to have ignored several months of actions discriminating against the majority vulpine population.
The economic, social and political situation in Valokchia is tense and unstable. The new government will be attempting to legitimise their rule by soliciting the support of international partners. The coup was timed several hours after the assassination of Danilo Pejic. An apparently 'less competent' acting president was put in his place who could be quickly and easily expended. This coup has implications on foreigners and natives. The government has declared that physical and intellectual property, private homes and deposits in Valokchian banks will remain the same. There have been no major reports of academics fleeing the country (and at the same time there is no increase in academics and professionals entering the country).
Apparently, the fighting has largely died down. While the first few days were chaotic, we can expect some sense of peace and order can return to Valokchians. The country has claimed that it has the willingness and capacity to deal with the internal problems that arise from within and it without external interference. Due to the close political and social relationship of the Asendavians and Valokchians, the former will act as a mediator when the need arises. While the competency of the Asendavians to mediate and resolve disputes in another country is dubious, it affirms the influence that the Asendavians have in that country. Hopefully, it will use its influence and favourable status in that country to avert and deal with any future disasters that may arise. OOC: Completed with help from Gablogian
Jollofu rice recipe by Adima Yahadinu
Jollofu rice is a delicious hot and spicy meal. It's a comforting food especially for parties. Here's the recipe:
Ingredients
- 3ľ cups (750g) long grain parboiled rice
- 2-3 cups Tomato Stew
- Chicken (whole chicken, drumsticks or chicken breast)
- Pepper and salt (to taste)
- 2 medium onions
- 3 stock cubes
- 2 teaspoons thyme
- 2 teaspoons curry powder (Nigerian curry powder)
Before you cook Jollof Rice
- Prepare the tomato stew. Visit the Tomato Stew page for details on how to do that. It is advisable to prepare tomato stew beforehand and keep in the freezer. This is so that whenever you want to cook any jollof rice related dish, it is just a matter of adding it to your cooking.
- If you will use whole chicken then wash and cut it into pieces. Cook with the thyme, Knorr cubes and 2 bulbs of onions (chopped). The cooking time depends on the type of chicken. The rooster or cockerel cooks much faster than the hen but the hen is definitely tastier. When done, grill it in an oven. You may also fry it. This is to give it a golden look which is more presentable especially if you have guests for dinner.
- Parboil the rice using the method detailed in parboiling rice for cooking jollof rice. Rinse the parboiled rice and put in a sieve to drain.
Cooking Directions
- Pour the chicken stock and the tomato stew into a sizeable pot and leave to boil.
- Add the drained parboiled rice, curry powder, salt and pepper to taste. The water level should be the same level of the rice. This is to ensure that all the water dries up by the time the rice is cooked.
- Cover the pot and leave to cook on low to medium heat. This way the rice does not burn before the water dries up.
- If you parboiled the rice as described at parboiling rice for cooking jollof rice, the rice should be done by the time the water is dry. Taste to confirm. If not, you will need to add more water and reduce the heat to prevent burning. Keep cooking till done.
- Serve with Peppered Fish, Fried Plantains, or Moi-Moi.
- You can spice up this recipe by adding 2 well-known vegetables to arrive at what we refer to as Mixed Vegetables Jollof Rice.

| Kahiru Fighters knocked out of the PFL! By Hussayinu Muhammadu
The match between the Ahamadu Giants and the Kahiru Fighters was electric and sealed the fate of the fighters. The match ended with a 2 - 1 victory for the Ahamadu Giants. The match was played at the Ahamadu Giants' home ground: the Ahamadu Provincial Stadium on 10 May and was broadcast live on the Royal Sports Network. We will be giving you a brief overview of the match.
The Kahiru Fighters were bold but chaotic. It was clear that the boys and the coach were under pressure to perform, as their sponsor, Bazaar Food, was threatening to pill out if there were no substantive victories. The boys were energetic and the match was a thrill to watch, but ultimately, they were too desperate. They were not as coordinated as they usually were. They made several attempts at the goal and even yielded the opening score of the game. This was misleading, giving a false prediction of how the match would go. Rather than strengthening the defence, they strengthened the offence. An extra midfielder and striker were added. It seems as though they were trying to get as many goals as possible in rather than keeping any from getting into theirs
The Ahamadu Giants seemed to notice this. They kept a solid defence and made any goals after the first one very difficult. The Kahiru Fighters kept the ball in the Ahamadu Giants' half of the field for a surprisingly large part of the match, but they could not break it. When the Ahamadu Giants managed to break through the busy throng at the front, the Giants' defence could not withstand it. They scored two goals and made four attempts that nearly got in. Luckily, the Kahiru Fighters had an excellent goalkeeper who won the Man of the Match and the respect of his teammates and opponents accolade for his resilience, the incredible display of skill and tenacity in the face of incredible odds. Having won this match, the Giants will advance to the knockout stage.
The last group stage match will be between the Abadullahu Mariners and the Wawa Wanderers on 18 May at 18H00 at Wawa City Stadium, to be broadcast on the Royal Sports Network. Visit your local supermarket or go on the Premier Football League website to get information on tickets and future fixtures
ANCIENT ART FINDS NEW LIFE AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM By Yasminu Zakariahu
The Queen Mother Pendant Mask made from ivory The Muhafatu Collection Restoration Process has been completed and the collection will be exhibited at the National Museum. The Muhafatu Collection comprises ceremonial masks and pagan idols of the ancient Yahatu people. The objects are made from ivory and fine wood such as ebony. The figures have interesting patterns and details. They are an important source of information on the culture and history of a now-extinct nation. The Collection was owned by Prince Muhammadu Rashidu who donated it to the National Museum. The pieces were decaying and a massive process was undertaken to restore the pieces to their former glory. The help of the Director of the Abrahamic Arts Museum in South Hills, Michael Bishops, was enlisted to help in 3D modelling and applying the appropriate techniques to restore these ancient artefacts to their former glory. END OF THE LIGHT AIRCRAFT CARRIER
The Royal Shipwrights Company released a statement earlier today that it will no longer produce light aircraft carriers. In a statement published on the company's website, the company will “henceforth and forevermore, cease the production, construction and development of light aircraft carriers”. The Board of Directors felt that the ships were not bringing in revenue and maintaining the facilities, paying the staff and commissioning the research to develop and build these ships was exhausting the company's resources and became an unprofitable enterprise that was leading to increasing debt.
This is part of the company's program to reduce the scale of its bloated infrastructure and personnel. The light aircraft carrier had been first commissioned by the Hamanian Imperial Navy. The company purchased port space and built facilities and purchased or constructed machinery to build more of these and other ships. Although there has been an increase in military spending, the company has been unable to attract enough interest or committed customers to maintain the facilities any longer. Although this had been predicted by analysts and hinted at by senior officials in the company, this announcement serves as stamp that seals the fate of the production of light aircraft carriers.
This process is part of a broader program by the company to reduce its costs. The company accrued a large amount of debt and solicited a great deal of government funding in a bid to keep the factories open. Unfortunately without clients, keeping those facilities open and staff employed is haemorrhaging funds. The discontinuation of the production of light aircraft carriers forms part of a bigger program to restructure the company. This process began a few years ago when the company began outsourcing the production of parts to other companies. Motors, for instance, were outsourced to the Staynish motor vehicle and motor engineering company, Royal Redrugus.
The company will be terminating some of its leases. It will be closing down factories, leasing them to others or selling them. There has been considerable interest from property developers to build resorts, malls, apartments and hotels along the old dockyards, where the docks where ships were being fixed and built. The company will only retain key staff such as engineers and mechanics. It will cut down its staffing component. It is hoped, however, that its plans to outsource some its needs to indigenous firms will help mitigate the impact of the people who will become jobless. Some companies such as Rahudin Metals’ CEO, Badami Rahudin, have been optimistic and believe that this move will help diversify the shipbuilding industry in Hama and give indigenous companies opportunities that they would not have had otherwise.
There are rumours that the company also plans to produce civilian ships as well. Although the arms sector is fairly robust, there have been fears about an imminent implosion of the sector. The Royal Shipwrights might be attempting to save itself by focusing on a more widely demanded sector, that being civilian vessels. Although civilian vessels can be sophisticated and expensive, on average, fishing vessels, comfort yachts and others are easier to produce. The skills and technology needed to build ships that are used in combat is a lot more rigorous, energy-consuming and taxing in general, because they not only need to withstand the storms and rough waves, but also enemy fire and debris. Military vessels are also built to last. With an average lifespan of 30 years (with some ships going to 50), there is not a long queue of people wanting to replace new ships. In fact, the company has to seek out customers. | TRAVEL SPOTLIGHT: KOMODU
The city of Komodu is the capital of Hama. It is the seat of its government. The imperial government works and the King resides here. Important officials such as the rulers of the tribes meet here often for the important business of running the country and deciding on crucial matters of state. From entering the city, one can immediately understand why this city is praised so much. It is adorned with stately architecture. In this edition’s travel spotlight, we will take a brief look at this city.
The city of Komodu has the largest port in the Hamanian Empire. The port of Komodu has many piers where ships, particular large ships such as container ships and oil tankers moor. It also has shipyards where ships are repaired and built. It has a large area where massive containers are kept, waiting to be distributed. It also has warehouses where goods are stored for import or export. It also has many office buildings. With the planned regeneration program, the port will lie in close proximity to hotels, resorts and apartments. The Komodu International Airport is also the largest and busiest airport in the country. It handles hundreds of thousands of passengers and thousands or tonnes of cargo every year. It lies several miles from Komodu proper.
The city is a thriving economic hub. It is the largest shipbuilding city in the Borean Sea. The bulk of the Hamanian shipbuilding, repairs, maintenance and development industry lies in this city. One of the largest shipbuilders in the world, the Royal Shipwrights company, has its headquarters here. Many banks and financial institutions have regional offices or their headquarters here. The Komodu Stock Exchange is the largest exchange in the empire, where millions in company and private stocks and securities are traded. The city is also a major diamond cutting center. Rough diamonds are polished and cut and sold in the auction houses or as jewelry or to industry to be used in machines. The city makes up a significant portion of the Hamanian economy.
The city has a beautiful skyline. The city center has tall modern buildings that embody the modern vision and aspirations of the city and builders. These spires of glass, concrete and metal represent the growth of the country and its people’s aspirations to become in international city. The old town is where the government and embassies are housed. Here, stately buildings built in the Islamic style sit along broad roads, and lie in estates and parks with palm trees and cycads. The ruins of the old city lie nearby and form a historic heritage site. These ancient ruins have been preserved for posterity. Many are in disuse, but there is plenty of activity as visitors come to see the domain of the ancient people.
There suburbs and townships surround the “hub” of the city (the port, central business district, old city and ancient ruins). Here the people of the country live. There are many different people who live in these areas. Some areas have a more urban vibe, with closely quartered buildings and a busy nightlife. Some areas are more suburban and quiet. Some campuses of the universities such as the Komodu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Abrahamic University of Hama and University of Komodu are located here. These institutes are some of the largest in the country and have a high international reputation as research and learning institutions. KIST in particular is renowned for its research and development projects and close partnership with the top science companies in the country.

TRUCK CRASHES INTO LUMINOLIA-HAMA BORDER POST
An eighteen wheel truck carrying milk crashed into the Shadahin border crossing that links Hama and Luminolia. The truck was owned by the Basam Dairy Company and was carrying bottles of fresh milk to Luminolia. The truck took a sharp turn on a bend and swerved into the border post, killing several guards and civilians and injuring hundreds more. As it collided with the brick structure and other vehicles, the engine exploded, causing the damage and death that was experienced.
Police were at the scene in minutes, evacuating people and cordonning off the area so that no more people, except for emergency services, could come through. The gate will be closed and people will have to use alternative border gates to cross into Luminolia. Firefighters have been fighting the fire that consumes the buildings. They have been struggling to end the flames, although they have managed to keep the fire from spreading.
The Hamanian Police Chief said that an investigation into the causes of the accident and the extent of the damage will be undertaken as soon as possible. He said that the Luminolia police have been alerted. He said that families of the deceased will be able to view the bodies of the dead and collect them later today. He said that the police and government extend their heartfelt condolences for all those who lost their loved ones in this senseless tragedy and hopes that those who have been injured or lost property will recover. | LARGEST DIAMOND AUCTIONED IN KOMODU
The Royal Diamond Company auctioned the largest yellow diamond in the world at its Komodu auction house yesterday. The diamond, called the Malakin Star, was mined by the company in 2008. It was cut and polished by the company's jewelers. It has been on display at the company's Komodu diamond showhouse ever since. The company decided to auction off the beautiful rock.
The diamond was mined in southern Itur. It weighs approximately 600 carats. It has 200 facets and edges. It is lozenge shaped. It was cut by master jewelers Salma Hadith and Rashid Mahadu. The diamond was named the Malakin Star meaning because of its grandure and the association of the word Malakin with King in the Hamanese language. The diamond took several months to complete. The company had considered dividing the rock, but clearly it's investment paid off. It was sold for 70 million kiribs by an anonymous buyer from Hama.

UNDENOTED BOMBS FOUND IN TRUCK AT BORDER POST
Undetonated explosives were found inside the carriage of the truck that crashed into the border post between Luminolia and Hama. When Firefighters managed to quell the blaze, Police were able to pull the vehicle away and collect debris from the border post. They moved all the pieces to a nearby facility for analysis. When they opened the carriage, they began unloading some of the undamaged merchandise. Cartons of milk in wooden crates remained preserved and undamaged. Police then found undetonated mining explosives, typically used to blow open the basalt in mining operations. The explosives are incredibly powerful. Had they gone off, as an expert tells us, hundreds more would have perished.
The bombs were contained in metal canisters written: made in Luminolia. The police revealed that although the canisters were made in Luminolia, the origin of the explosives could not be accurately identified. There is suspicion that terrorist groups in or linked to Luminolia constructed the bombs. Police received a stock list from the Badami Dairy Company on all the inventory being ferried between Hama and Luminolia. It found that milk was being brought in from Luminolia while the company sent yoghurt, processed milk and cheese to Luminolia for export.
What was strange about the truck that crashed into the border post is that it was the only one that was taking the unprocessed milk from Hama to Luminolia. Investigators are still looking into the situation and investigating the origin, intended use and owners of the explosives. The Investigation Team released a report showing the the braking mechanism in the truck was damaged. They suspected that the brakes had been tamper with. The cable that connected to the axle had a cut that seemed to be made by a sharp object like a knife. But there is no indication that the incision could have been made by any part of the mechanism of have been present prior to installation. This is the information upon which the investigators formed their basis that the brakes had been tampered with. | RHINO HORN SMUGGLER'S CASE REVEALS MUCH MORE
The smuggler was arrested in the port of Ahamadu after he was found searching one of the containers. When security asked him for his identification, he pulled out a gun and began firing. The police fired back and struck his hand. Luckily the police escaped unscathed. The man was arrested for attempted murder and illegal discharge and possession of a firearm. When the police searched the container in which the man had been found rhino horn in crates. The rhino horn had no information attached. All rhino horn should have a barcode, the name of the supplier and location of the buyer. It should have a stamp from the Hamanian Wildlife Conservation Agency that the horn had been acquired legally. The police charged the smuggler with illegal possession and distribution of unregistered rhino horn.
The police confiscated the man's identity document from his jacket. The ID was fake and included a fake pass to allow him free movement through the container storage area of the port. The man's fake ID states that he is Hariku Ohadamu. But the information could not be found on Ahamadu Port Authority records nor on the Population Registration Database. When biometric scanning was employed to ascertain his identity, he was identified as Manuel Bismillahu, a man who committed armed robbery five years ago and was sentenced to four years hard labour. He had been on parole since last year.
The investigators have not released a statement nor has the man signed an affidavit. The investigators have also charged him with fraud and possession of counterfeited identity documents. The illegal exportation of rhinoceros horn is a punishable offence carrying up to 15 years imprisonment. Rhino poaching is punished heavily and the police actively enforce the laws and have made many successes in the past, but the trade has persisted. The arrest of Mr Bismillahu indicates that the smugglers have the sophistication to produce fake IDs and access to the port of Ahamadu. The resources that are required for this exercise allude to a large, well resourced, technically skilled market that may be supported by corrupt officials and businesspeople.
These are troubling signs. Trade in rhino horn is legal, but there are strict controls to prevent the overexploitation of our rhino population. The population faces a serious threat that threatens to take away our national treasure. More dead carcasses of rhinos with their horns extracted at the tusk are being found than new calves are being born. If poaching continues at this pace then the population faces a serious threat and may become endangered. Although the government expanded reserves to expand their foraging area, which was a needed boon for the population, the Hamanian Wildlife Conservation Agency has not received a proportional increase in its budget and manpower which has restricted its ability to deal with the rhino trade. |
