Hello! Today we'll be presenting the much-anticipated news special: Politics in Krechzianko. We'll be simplifying things for foreign viewers.

Krechzianko is, of course, a socialist nation. We have been so since 1920, when the hero Georgi Petrechna led the revolution against the bourgeois dogs. Ever since, the people have been given a fair share of their production, and private business is almost non-existent. Foreign influence, business-wise, is also frowned upon, and the government does all it can to prevent monopolies and outsourcing. But the current Premier [ooc: he actually has a name, I just can't remember it] was appointed in 1998. He ushered in a new era of freedom and economic progress in our nation. During his term, the Premier introduced progressive policies in the economic and social worlds. He brought about Glastnost and Perestroika, which would allow for openness and the freedom to speak out against the Party. His most important policy is Democratization. This will let the People control their government and have greater political influence.

Under the current political system, the People elect councils for each of their Provinces, from which the Premier appoints certain members to the Central committee. The Committee votes on issues, and acts as the main legislature. They elect a Prime Minister from their own ranks, who wields little power. The Premier is appointed by the previous Premier, and he controls the entire Government. This system is complicated and highly inefficient.

Under the future system, modeled after Hungary's, the People will directly elect the Central Committee, which will consist of 386 members. The Committee will elect a Premier, but not necessarily from the Committee itself. The legislature will still be one-house. It will be elected as follows:

176 will be elected directly from small counties and districts,
120 will be elected from the 4 provinces,
90 will be elected nationally from the major parties.

A Prime Minister will be chosen from the leading Party, and will serve an administrative purpose rather than a powerful one.

This may sound confusing, but it is actually quite simple. The Premier, rather than appointing Ministers directly, will make recommendations. The Committee will have to pass his suggestion.

The Judicial system will be simplified as well. Judges of all levels will be elected by the People, while the Chief Justice of the People's (Supreme) Court will be chosen by the Committee. The new Constitutional court is to have more importance in the future.

The numerous and useless bureaucracies of Krechzianko are to be cut down within the next 5-year Plan, allowing for less government spending. This will alleviate the stress on our economy and the recent recession.

To keep the country from being under too much stress, the People will not have to elect the 120 provincial Committee members this election; they will remain from the old Committee. In the future, the three groups will be elected at different times.

The economy will remain socialist, and it will always be that way. Barriers will be placed to keep the Committee from becoming too capitalistic.

Finally, the dates at which election occur will be important. The Premier will serve a 5-year term, and can be reelected once. Committee members will serve terms 5 years in length, as well.

YEAR ONE:

APRIL 1: Election of Central Committee. (In future, only the 176 main members will be chosen.)

APRIL 27: Current Committee elects new Premier.

MAY 1: May Day, appointment of new Premier.

YEAR TWO:

APRIL 1: Election of 120 members of Committee.

YEAR THREE:

APRIL 1: Election of remaining 90 Committee members.

MAY 1: New PM chosen.

Simple, isn't it?

Many parties have sprung up, and we have gone over them before. They are many in number, but the PLPK, which has run krechzianko for over 80 years, remains the most popular.

PLPK (People's Labor Party of Kr.): The socialist party, and current leading power. In control since 1920.

KPDF (Kr. People's Defense Force): Conservative party, supportive of foreign business.

NPK (Nationalist Party of Kr.): Predominantly conservative, supports strong army and national pride.

JPP (Jewish Progressive Party): Small and weak, fairly liberal Jewish.

NIDF (Northern Independence Defense Force): Middle-of-road, support autonomy for Northern provinces.

GIP (Greek Independence Party): Fairly liberal, support Greek autonomy.

RIP (Romanian " "): More conservative, same as above but Romanian.

Several other groups exist, but these are the ones which are well-known. Many of these groups have been accused of supporting rebellion, namely the NIDF and KPDF. The former is being investigated by the gov't after several car bombings and murders in the last few years.

The four Provinces have several small groups focused only on that area, but these have little strength.

Well, that's all for now. We'll give you updates on the political scene as time goes on!

Hello, friends!

We have received preliminary reports of a peace treaty being considered in wachovia. Details are sketchy, but we are looking for more information now. Stay tuned for more!

Several terrorist attacks have taken place in Trioni as of late; we have reason to believe they were caused by the same group which caused the nuclear attack on Trioni recently. On multiple ocassions, suicide bombers attacked Trioni civilians and soldiers supporting the Packilvanian imperialists. Krechzianko's antiterror teams are looking for cells within our borders; nothing has come up yet.

The battle lines in the Central Committee are being drawn as the Premier's electoral race heats up. While the majority of members are strong supporters of the Premier, some have decided to break away and turn to the dark side. We have noticed more campaigning all across the country, but the opposition is divided. If they were one party, they could most likely win the election. However, they opposition is confused and split, giving the PLPK a strong advantage. Many new Committee hopefuls have taken to the stump, preparing for the coming election. 266 new members are to be elected this April 1st, and hundreds are already gearing up for the battle. The police are to be more watchful in case some breakaway groups resort to violence during the campaign.

So far, the Committee (still 120 members until April, remember) have endorsed the following parties.

72 members: PLPK
23 members: Krech People's Defense force
9 members: Nationalist Party
3 members: Greek Independence
1 member: Romanian Independence
1 member: Jewish Progressive

11 members have not yet endorsed any parties. Some of the scattered opposition groups have recently turned to the KPDF, but more will be needed for Onassis to be elected Premier on April 27th.

Greetings, comrades!

The possibility of peace continues in Wachovia, but we still have no specifics. We all hope that the Father will understand how much he is despised, and will realize that he must make peace.

The army is being rotated back to Krechzianko for leave today, and we are beginning to pull more soldiers from Plot 66. A couple of brigades will remain, and we'll have more troops here in the Homeland.

We're proud to announce that Plot 66 has been opened up to Krechnews! They will now tune in to receive the best news around!

Little has developed of late as far as news, loyal viewers. The peace agreements may continue in Wachovia, we aren't sure.

More troops are being pulled back from Plot 66, while a local militia is being set up. It will consist of several thousand of the recent Slav immigrants to the plot; they will be armed with extra weaponry from the national stockpile. The airbase in the Plot is nearly finished, with several squadrons being flown in this week. They may begin to engage in patrols over nearby plots soon, so as to be sure that insurgents aren't operating out of the jungles around 66.

The Committee elections will be held in roughly two weeks, and things are getting nasty. Many members have been campaigning heavily for the past few days, with most concentrated in the Central Province. Millions are expected to turn out to vote on April 1st. The PLPK is still Krechnews' projected winner!

Krechzianko has just announced that we will be entering the EP hockey tournament! We know that we'll win, what with our Slavic background and such. More on this tomorrow.

Well, comrades, the election is coming soon! The preparations have been finalized; after much confusion, 386 new Committee members will be elected in the coming weeks! On April 1st, the People will come to the polls and cast their votes. The coming of democracy is a new era in the history of Krechzianko, and we all hope that it will be successful. The new Committee will convene in the beautiful Capitol Building in Krechenstadt's government district, where the Building's Greco-Roman facade will reflect our fledgling democracy. All foreign ambassadors will be invited to the Capitol Building on April 3rd, to see the new Committee's first session. It will be ceremonial, of course; no laws will actually be voted on. Hello, friends!

The Premier has been making overtures toward the dictatorship of Vladistock Island, a country which is half-ruled by a powerful government and half under the control of tribal insurgents. He had issued an ultimatum to Vladistock's leaders, and is awaiting a response. EPTO allies have mainly supported military action there to formulate a stable, democratic government. The first transport planes have already begun to land in Characoi, Xiopothos, which could become our base of operations near the island. If the dictator does not respond by midnight on Friday, war will begin. The military is already being readied for combat and nation-building.

Comrades, today is both a sad day and a great one.

Our nation's armies invaded the dictatorship of Vlsdistock island recently, and a large-scale war has begun to form. Thousands of soldiers are being sent in to eliminate enemy military resistance and save their civilians from their opressive leaders. We have taken several hundred casualties, and more are mounting fast. However, Vladistock's resistance is also showing some signs of weakness; their troops have retreated from the beachheads and pulled back into the forests.

The evil ruler of the island has now violated a cease-fire by downing peaceful helicopters and continuing to engage our troops. They also threatened our People with nuclear missiles. Most foreign support is on their side, as other leaders believe that this war is somehow imperialistic. It is actually humanitarian aid, but nobody seems to realize that. Xiopothos, meanwhile, is helping by sending a large contingent of marines into the fray.

Our glorious armies in Vladistock.

Meanwhile, the elections will be taking place quite soon. The new members of the Central Committee have been campaigning quite a bit, and now they'll see the fruits of their labor. It is expected that the conservative reactionary parties may have some unexpected victories as a result of the war in Vladistock, which anti-war types have 'blamed' on the Premier. We'll have to see what happens.

Due to the large amount of news and Krech (the player)'s overall laziness, no news will be broadcast today. Sorry, comrades.

Hello, comrades!

A peace treaty was finally signed the other day, officially ending the war with Vladistock Island. Troops have all been pulled out, and EPTO humanitarian units will likely be sent to Vladistock to aid in repairs and building homes for those who lost theirs in the conflict.

The rebuilding process in Krechenstadt is well underway, with most of the major damage already repaired. Large trees were transplanted from the Dubrovnik Mountains and taken to the Peoples' Park, where the napalm damage is being fixed now. The Premier has also unveiled a plan to decorate Krechenstadt with a futuristic lighting system, which will turn the boardwalk into a bright, exciting wonderland, especially on holidays.

The newly-scheduled elections for the Committee will take place this Friday, with a close win for the PLPK expected. The war in Vladistock lost the Socialists some ground, but it was a greater loss for the conservatives, who were blamed for the recent coup.

A sad loss for the Stalinists took place today in Milesandia. Artemon Nadienavich and his teammates came onto the ice with a lot of effort, but sadly, they failed. Fish Island's Tsuli team began the game with a good start, but the second period saw a small comeback for Krechzianko. The third period of the battle came out with a victory for Fish Island. We're here with Artemon in the Stalinists' locker room:

"Well, we did all we could, but they had some quick players, and...uh, we just coudn't do it. But, uh, when we go up against Vladistock, I think we'll have a real advantage. Y'know, uh, I think we'll be able to break through, and our defense is pretty good, so I think we can pull it off."

Still, it was a sad loss today, even as the May Day celebration brought a lot of happiness to the People. This week's game with Vladistock Island could really go either way. Their offense is good, there's no doubt about it, but the two teams are relatively similar in their strengths and weaknesses. This will definitely be an exciting one. Back to you, Ivan...

109: Krech People's Defense Force

63: Various independents and small parties

22: Nationalist Party

7: Northern Independence Defense Force

3: Jewish Progressive Party

3: Volksjagersparty (German Independence)

1: Romanian Independence Party
