The Regional Court of the East Pacific now being operational, there is a requirement for barristers to plead cases before the court. At present, Free Pacific States has established himself as a public defender. I see no particular reason for a formal separation of positions in terms of proposing/opposing a case, though obviously the clients taken on, including the East Pacific Government, are at the discretion of the barrister in question. Therefore the appeal is made for those willing to act as advocates before the courts to make themselves known. There is no formal requirement for the position, although a working knowledge of the Charter and subsequent laws passed by the assembly will be expected. Preferably, advocates will be willing to act as necessary in any given case; thus if not defending the accused you may be called on to act on behalf of the government in proposing the case. Those willing to act in such a way should leave their details here; a list of barristers shall then be created for the use of those seeking representation in the courts. |

Perhaps I think someone needs to explain what a barrister is. |

Barrister=EP Name for a lawyer. Nice one, Codex. As for the Public Defender's Office...well, I guess we could get ride of the DA's office and PD's office...but, I mean, if people want to specialize in either defense or prosecution, they ought to be given the chance. In any case, I'll unpin the thread, you can decide how to play it, as you are our Viceroy. Whichever choice you make (Keeping or destroying the offices), I'd like to continue here in the courts as a Barrister. I'll probably go for defense more then prosecution, but if the EP needs me, and the defendant doesn't..I'll be there. |

As I say, it's up to the barrister in question whether to take on the case, whether at the request of a defendant or the government (or, in fact, a proponent, if this is a private grievance being settled through the courts). Personally, I think it would be beneficial for people to take on both sides at various points, but that's simply my opinion, rather than a decision on anything. As for getting rid of the two offices... as far as I'm concerned, there is no continuity from the previous governmental model to this one. Hence they never existed in any official capacity. Neither do I see a need for them in any official capacity. The choice of clients to accept is solely that choice; there's no need for a formal division between those willing to prosecute/defend. Especially since this would both limit the ability of an advocate to choose to carry out the other position, and may result in an unbalanced situation one way or another, which would be useless. I shall begin to construct a roster of Barristers (mostly short, so far.) I might ask you to put a post in it describing yourself, making it easy for people to contact you, etc. |

Nations of the Region, Please consider this call for defense counsel again. In short order, laws will be passed that will call for such counsel. Wachovia |

Well, I'd have to brush up on EP law a bit, but seeing that my dad was an attorney, it's only natural that I take up the opportunity of being a barrister. |

As we have had no applicants and as the defenedant may need a barrister, I hereby inform the court that I will make myself available should a need present itself. |

Excellent. The court seems fairly inactive at the moment, but I'll make a note to ask you if we get somebody looking for a defence counsel. |
