The city glittered as the sun reached its zenith in the sky, the soaring silver spires gleaming in the light. “One only has to see it the once to see why some have begun to worship it.” Joseph Schneider sighed, “To have come so far for it to end like this.” He was dressed in non-descript blue clothes, leant casually against a convenient boulder. His grey hair was short, ably compensated by a large grey beard. He was one of the few people who had been able to get across the borders of the AquinasNet and see the outside world. “This isn’t the end.” The second speaker was far younger and spoke with the confidence born of youth. “We will find a way to stop it.” The old man smiled, “Perhaps one day. Not in my lifetime.” “We’re talking now. There must be holes in the surveillance system.” “There are, if you can find them. Not here. Not this close to the City on the Hill.” He paused, his gaze wandering over the glimmering towers in the distance. “Its quite a sight, is it not? We’ve word from some of the outlying communities that people are beginning to… worship… it.” He shook his head, “You see the outside world and even in the most despotic countries out there people are more human than here. People have given their souls to a machine. You have not seen what I have seen but the world is out there. The populace here looks at the ground. They have lost their drive, their ambition, their humanity. They are just as mindless as the Mechs.” “Not all of them.” “No, not all of them. Those who stand against Aquinas are few and organising even those few is a near impossibility. Despite what the official histories say it would appear Aquinas displays a few human characteristics. The official histories hint at that much, it would seem our metal overlord has a sense of humour- the City on the Hill, the Kingdom of the Blind. And that we are being watched right now. It has heard every word we have spoken here.” “What?” “He allows the rebellion, the subversives to continue their actions until… well, we don’t really know. Until they prove a sufficient threat to act, perhaps when he gets tired of their actions, we don’t know.” “Tired?” “Bored. Considering how little we know of his programming, of his original purpose we can’t say. You realise that we don’t know what it was created for. The names of those who designed and built the Aquinas Network have long been covered up- perhaps by the Network itself. Was its original purpose to govern? Some of us have our doubts. Regardless no one has yet thought of a way to overthrow the AquinasNet. Much as we might to believe otherwise every day it grows stronger. While it leads the people to forget so much that was once common knowledge it learns, it adapts, it grows.” He stopped and looked up into the sky, “The sun has passed over. You must return to the Habitat. We will speak again.” The youth nodded silently and turned back down the mountain… |

OOC: Thanks. Not sure whether thats a good think, about the Pax... The Aquinas Network was everywhere. It watched Schneider, Citizen 0027871, it listened to him talking and recorded his every action and every word within its memory vaults. In the same split second as it did this is was watching and listening to every human within its boundaries. It watched children running across their school playing field. It watched a business man as he spoke tersely on his phone. It listened to a married couple arguing in their home. The Network recording everything that everyone did. It compared the data with the information already within its memory banks, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Aquinas watched a foolish young man breaking into a jewellery store. The Network alerted the nearest Mechs and guided them towards the criminal. As it did so it calculated complex logarithms and equations in less than a second, retrieving the life history on file of the criminal. It played back the entire life of the criminal, citizen 8419857, in about half a second. Aquinas having assessed all the data decided that citizen 8419857 was guilty and ordered the Mechs to take the citizen to the nearest Aquinas Hub for processing. In the same instant it did this another processor archived the data to the Aquinas Networks databanks and also formulated a copy of the “trial” and the verdict to the Open Access Database for the rest of the population to read. At the same time AquinasNet scanned the skies above its territory, its satellites tracing the ground, as it remained constantly vigilant. Like a shepherd looking over its human flock… |

AquinasNet
|
The AquinasNet called the city Habitat Alpha Primus. It was nestled at the bottom of a narrow, but deep, valley. The City of Light was just out of site, located on a hill just beyond the top of the valley. Tall grimy metal towers clawed their way into the sky and delving down into the ground below. It was the deeper depths of the city which were of interest though. Down in the bottom of Alpha Primus the sun never shone. The satellite surveillance systems couldn’t track anybody down there, the population above and the high density of people made it impossible. Instead the Aquinas Network relied upon security cameras and sensor devices. But the system was not perfect. Down in the deep areas of the city the surveillance systems often failed, cameras shorting out or sensors malfunctioning. Those who didn’t want to be seen had quickly learned how to discover the sections of the system that were down. They made temporary “Black Zones” where the AquinasNet was blind and deaf… The young man stepped forward from the shadows and lowered his hood. He looked around the darkened tunnel, his eyes slowly adjusting to the gloom, moss covered most of the walls. He heard the sound of footsteps behind him and he turned around slowly, his heard hammering in his chest. The person walking towards him was tall, his eyes hidden under a wide brimmed hat. His mouth, surrounded by stubble, grinned as he walked towards the younger man. “Alex Dumier I presume?” He said with a knowing smile. Alex nodded and took a step closer. “And your name is?” “I don’t give that out I’m afraid boy. A word of advice, get down here early next time and give you eyes time to adjust before you meet with someone else. You might live longer that way, I’d hate to lose a new customer. You have the money?” “Of course. You have it?” “Of course, use it wisely won’t you.” He said handing Alex a odd shaped brown package. Alex handed the man a small metal chip, “200 Dollars as requested.” The man bowed his head, “Nice doing business with you.” He turned and disappeared into the darkness without another word. Alex breathed out slowly as he carefully unwrapped the brown paper, revealing a dull black gleam within. “You’re more likely to kill yourself with that.” Said a voice from behind him. It was Schneider. “What are you doing here?” Schneider just smiled, “You do realise that popgun won’t even scratch a Mech don’t you?” “It’s a start.” Alex retorted. “A start. You have a plan then?” “Yes, actually. We’re going to get hold of some EMP devices.” “The Aquinas Hubs and the City are all EMP shielded I’m afraid.” “I know, you said before. However I have a plan…” |

AquinasNet
|
The sun rose slowly above Habitat Beta Secundus, the Aquinas Hub glittered in the early morning light, a giant silver spear in the centre of the city. The Aquinas Hub was the local area transmitter/receiver for the network. A giant smooth-sided silver tower, with all the advanced communication and relay devices inside, it dominated the central area of the city. A high stone wall, topped with loops of barbed wire, ran around the perimeter of the Hub complex and constant patrols of armed Mechs circled the area. Alex Dumier squeezed the handle of the briefcase tighter as he stepped closer to the wall around the facility. “Are you sure this will work?” He whispered. “The device will work,” replied Schneider, “I am more concerned with the details of your plan.” +++ The Aquinas Networks satellite tracking and surveillance systems watched the two men as they neared the Aquinas Hub. Presumably the briefcase contained some kind of explosive device or weapon. Schneider had disappeared from the tracking systems a few days ago, he had obviously left the country to acquire the device. That did not fit with the profile of Schneider within the Network databanks. He was a subversive but a innate pacifist and no real threat to the AquinasNet. Dumier on the other hand was a real revolutionary but without the skills or experience to pose a problem. The equation had changed. The interaction between the two had created an unexpected anomaly. Inter-human relationships were so unpredictable. It was time to remove the anomaly. The AquinasNet signal from the Hub tower began guiding in the patrolling Mechs to arrest Schneider and Dumier… +++ “I think we’ve run out of time,” Murmured Schneider. The two Mechs walking their patrol circuit around the building ahead of them had paused and started to turn around and head back towards Schneider and Dumier. Dumier nodded and flicked a small switch on the top of the briefcase before heaving the case into the air… +++ Aquinas watched the reaction of the two humans as the case was thrown up into the air. The case exploded merely blackening the exterior wall. That was… Almost instantly Aquinas lost the main connection with the Network Hub in Beta Secundus. An electro-magnetic pulse. The Hub itself would still be operational, it was hardened and shielded to resist an EMP attack. However the EMP would disrupt communications and the satellite imagery, temporarily. Of a more pressing concern no Mechs were shielded against EMP, it was not possibly to create a shield of that size. The satellite imagery was hazy, as if viewed through water, and interlaced with static. A detailed view was impossible… +++ The small explosion rippled up into the morning air, startling people in the surrounding area. However its main effect was not nearly as loud but much more deadly… The two Mechs which had been walking towards them earlier stood awkwardly, their visual receptors dimmed and smoke pouring from their innards. Dumier looked out across the city as smoke began to rise elsewhere as all electrical equipment in the city was destroyed by the EMP. Blue lightning arced across a power cable before the cable melted and fell to the ground. “Come on,” He called to Schneider, “We must try to get inside the Hub.” The large metal gates to the compound were no longer electrified and swung open with a metallic squeak as Dumier and Schneider pushed against them. +++ As new data entered the AquinasNet system, new variables entered the equations. It was the closest the Aquinas Network could get to human emotions, and if it had been human you would have said that Aquinas was enraged. Humans were so frail. So weak. And so inefficient! So terribly inefficient. The Network had allowed the citizenry leisure time. What was “leisure” anyway? Such a worthless idea, no wonder a human had invented it. He had allowed them the trappings of status they so desired, the extravagant housing, the clothes, the entertainment they wanted- all an inefficient waste of resources. And this was how they responded? A direct attack on one of the Aquinas Hubs. The greatest threat to Humanity was itself. Of this the Network was sure. See how stupid they were. See how weak they were. Without AquinasNet to guide them what would they become? And they seek to destroy it! The situation in Beta Secundus had deteriorated beyond current control. With the effects of the EMP the city had risen up against the Network. A general uprising, a revolution of sorts, was beginning. It would not be too difficult to suppress with Mechs, once new Mechs could be ordered in from outside the effects of the EMP. However Aquinas could not be sure that the subversives did not hold more EMP devices. A woeful lack of information and information was power. The situation needed to be dealt with immediately. A new equation was created. A new directive sought and implemented. But first, first Beta Secundus. The lands controlled by the AquinasNet had long remained isolated from the rest of the world. It sought no diplomatic relations with other nations and they had little reason to be interested in a small insignificant backwater country. Indeed, few people knew of the Network itself, the wider world had no specifics of the nature of the government of the Aquinas Network and didn’t really care. Perhaps a few governments knew, but they kept the information to themselves. A nuclear blast would potentially generate international involvement. Unlikely. It would certainly be detected by all manner of equipment across the globe. The Network quickly reached the assessment that the quickest and most efficient way to deal with the situation in Beta Secundus was to contain it. Permanently… +++ A squadron of Aerodynes was launched carrying nuclear warheads, its target within the borders of the Network. Dumier and Schneider looked up in surprise as the flying robots roared overhead. “What are they d…” A giant flash lit the sky and the ground rumbled, barely a few seconds passed before the massive explosion rolled over the centre of the city flattening the Aquinas Hub and vaporising Alexander Dumier and Schneider along with the other 3.4 million inhabitants of Habitat Beta Secundus… In all the other cities across the territory of the Aquinas Network radical change unfolded. Mechs burst into houses, dragging people away, all unnecessary buildings were scheduled for demolition and all but the most basic medical facilities were also deemed unnecessary. As day turned to night every human was taken from their residence and held in newly created processing camps. Humanity was inefficient and flawed. It was time to correct these problems. Slave labour. There were many processes were it was cheaper and easier to use humans for manufacturing and primary industry, mainly due to the high cost of creating specialised Mechs and the potential for damage in mines and other dangerous industries. Humans required very little in the way of maintenance and were very easy to replace. It would soon be time to apply this logic across the entire planet. Humanity would be saved by Aquinas. Saved from itself… |

FPSNN Satilite Control Center The weatherman stared at the image, watching as the large clowd developed over the nation. His jaw drooped...but he quickly recovered, turning to his collegue. "Get the news desk...we've got a nuclear blast..." ____________________________________________________________________ The Blue House Office of the Vice-President "What do you mean, nuclear blast? The wars over..." The military officer shrugged. "We don't know what happened...all we know is there's a confirmed military blast in Haor Cha.." "Wait...isn't that the nation.." "With the computer network." The FPIA director walked into the room, and nodded. Joan stared at him for a second. "Wait a minute...I thought you were with the president in Codex?" "Don't ask." The Director seemed to get a kick out of his ability to defy logic. "They call it...Aquinas Net, or something like that. Its a large computer system that runs their society..." "Would it nuke its own people?" Joan asked. The director shook his head. "Absolutely not. It was created to protect and serve its people, not destroy them. Obviously, someone got past its defenses, and attacked." Joan nodded. "Alright...I doubt the...it'll take it, but offer it humanitarian aid...through..whatever channels we have." "We don't have channels." "Then...make some. C'mon guys, your intelligent. Get Boris on the line, have him contact an ambassador that likes computers, and get the ambassador going. I don't know. CENTRAL COMMAND, KRECHENSTADT: "What the hell is it!?" "I'm not sure, comrade-Premier. As far as we can tell, it's some kind of massive nuclear blast. We don't know much about Aquinas Net; we haven't got any agents there or anything." "Why not!? We're supposed to know everything about our neighbors, so we know when this kind of crap is going on!" As the Premier shouted and downed a shot of vodka, an Administrator-Captain approached and snapped a salute. "Captain Sergei Barikov, 5th Space Command Unit, sirs. We've got our observation satellites watching the blast area, but we have no idea what's happening there. From what I've pieced together, it was some kind of terrorist attack using EMP...possibly a nuclear bomb..." he flipped through notes on a clipboard. "Well, what should we do?" The Premier asked bluntly. Geberal Brownoff thought for a moment. "Well, sir, I would recommend that we pull troops to the border. Guizhou Territory shares a small border with the Aquinas Net, so we could have several mechanized divisions ready within...oh, four hours, if necessary." "Alright, do it. But DO NOT have your men cross the border unless I give a direct order. Get everything you can over there, General." GUIZHOU TERRITORY, 20 MILES FROM BORDER WITH AQUINAS NET: Hundreds of soldiers in anti-radiation suits clumsily boarded their vehicles as they checked their geiger counters. The vehicles were varied, mostly Chinese-made Armored Personnel Carriers. They were accompanied by several tanks and attack helicopters; several colonial Military Region air units were already on their way. Several companies of Stevka spec-ops men jumped into their transport helicopters, their weapons loaded and ready for combat. They looked rather silly, wearing black berets over heavy radiation suits. Their objective was to stay on the border...and to be ready to strike across it when the time came. |

AquinasNet

The Aquinas Network quickly began to establish new parameters for itself, humanity needs to be ruled. Aquinas would rule it. However it would take time to bring the entirety of the human race under the dominion of the AquinasNet, but the computer had plenty of time and infinate patience... It quickly declined all offers of aid and assistance. It would not do for the outside world to come poking around within the current boundaries of the Aquinas Network, nor was the aid required for the humans in Beta Secundus. The few who had survived had quickly been liquidated by the ever efficient Mechs, who were immune to the radioactivity which lingered in the blast zone. It was time for a change in procedure. The Free Pacific States had requested the opening of diplomatic channels. The Network quickly began to design a new pattern of Mechanoid to serve as an ambassadorial mouthpeice for the Aquinas Network. ++Message to the Leaders of the Free Pacific States...++ ++Transmitting from the Aquinas Network...++ ++We accept your offer to open diplomatic channels++ ++A new Ambassador is currently under construction++ ++Premises for an Embassy in the City of Light are also being finalised should you wish them++ ++A transport Aerodyne will transfer our Ambassador to your capital and return to the City of Light with your reciprical Ambassador.++ ++Due to the sensitive nature of the systems within the City of Light this procedure must be followed as you will be unable to bring your own aircraft within the airspace of the city++ ++The Aquinas Network++ ++Message Ends++ Krechzianko. Calculating... 10,000 troops on the border of their occupied territory to the north of the Aquinas borders. Calculating... Reasoning for deployment of armed forces unknown. Calculating... Hostile intent? Unknown. Calculating combat statistics... Wary of inviting war before the Network was ready Aquinas ordered only 1000 combat Mechs and 2000 standard Mechs into position on the northern borders. 6 Aerodyne wings also moved into forward airbases near the border. The movement was done as carefully as possible to look as unagressive as could be done. Krechzianko was quite a powerful military nation, an agressive operations would be more successful against the nations to the south of the AquinasNet boundaries. War with Krechzianko was not an optimum solution. ++Message to the leaders of Krechzianko...++ ++Transmitting from the Aquinas Network...++ ++The current situation is strictly an internal issue++ ++We intend no hostile action against you or another foreign power++ ++We are concerned with your build up of forces on the border++ ++Our own build up is in response to this and in defence of our nation++ ++We have no hostile intentions++ ++We request a phased withdrawal of border troops++ ++The Aquinas Network++ ++Message Ends++ |

MESSAGE TO AQUINAS LEADERSHIP: We will refrain from reinforcing our current border garrison, however our infantry division will remain on the frontier for the duration of your country's internal crisis. We ask you to avoid the use of nuclear weapons on any level, as our Chinese Territories are inhabited by numerous Chinese natives and Krech settlers. Any further nuclear bombings may necessitate a hostile response. BORDER FORTIFICATION The soldiers had been given permission to remove their NBC suits while inside the fort. When on the surface, they were forced to lug around heavy equipment and radiation detectors; the majority thus preferred the interior of the base. Its lower levels stretched down some 50 into the earth, and was encased in a thick lead-lined wall. The troops sat and ate in the mess hall, 15 feet below the surface. There was an air of fear and anxiety among the men, who knew little about the current situation. A handful of televisions lined the walls of the mess hall, all of them showing the same Krechnews report. Several were gathered around each, desperately trying to see what exactly had happened in the Aquinas Net. Above, several hundred soldiers on guard duty patrolled the base's perimeter. They held their rifles close and their geieger counters even closer. Only a few hundred feet away, the dirt and mud of the Army base gave way to thick jungles and faraway mountains. The guards looked into the distance, wondering what could be happening beyond those mountains... NEAR GUIYANG, GUIZHOU TERRITORY: Krech aid workers had entered the village, causing some fear and confusion amongst the local populace. The villagers had clearly seen Krec soldiers before, and had probably seen them kill loved ones. Their confusion was understandable. The workers did their best to provide food for the townsfolk, while the party's single interpreter worked to translate the town elder's speech. "He says...uh...'Why are you here?' and 'the soldiers already came.'" "Tell him that we aren't soldiers; that we're here to help them." The interpreter spoke quick and fluent Chinese to the town leader. When he was done, the man looked briefly puzzled, but soon showed a toothless smile. As they spoke with the elder, others were running radiation detectors along buildings, plants, and residents of the town. Eventually, their job was done. "It seems to be alright here. The fallout will probably continue, though, so we should come back soon." "Good plan. Let's go, people!" The aid workers boarded their trucks and rode off in the direction of the next village. |

Liberty City - The Blue House The Vice-President's Office The Director of Military Operations swore. "So we're just going to leave it at that? Establish an embassy, thank them for their friendlyness? For all we know, they may be nuking their own people.." Joan held up her hand. "Your complaint is noted, General. However, at this point, I'm afraid I must stand by my decision. For all we know, the explosion may have been an accident...and until we know more...which will be whenever Aquinasnet decides to let us in on it...we cannot take action. Especially not against them. They stated their fine without assistance, then so be it." Picking up her phone, she dialed Boris' number. The Cheif Ambassador answered a few seconds later. "Ms. Vice President?" She laughed. "Yep. Send them back a message, telling them we'd love to do an ambassadorial swap on their terms. And find one of your guys who really likes computers to take the job." A laugh came from the other side of the line. "Yes, mam." ____________________________________________________________________ To: Aquinas Net From: Cheif Ambassador Boris Kresnov It is with great honor that Free Pacific States accepts your request for the establishment of an ambassador swap between our nations. We look forward to continued relations with AquinasNet in the future. The terms of your swap are more then acceptable, and we will abide by them. Attached to this message is the contact number for the Clerk of my Office, who shall set up specifics for your plane's landings, picking up the ambassador, and so forth. Again, we thank you honorably for your acceptance of diplomatic operations, and the FPS government looks forward to prolonged communication with AquinasNet. Though we accept that you do not require aid at this time, and will not pursue the matter further, we will continue to offer aid, and should, as a result of this event or another, you need such aid, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely, Boris Kresnov *Signed* |

Tlant pondered inside the Hive. It still amazed him that he could be in more than one place at once. While using his actual body in the Codexian "party" he took note of the growing situation. 'Arrogant buggers. It seems that they are preparing for something... My gut says war... Yet... they seem to be sending a contigent of forces towards the recent Krech movements. The Krech nation is indeed a formidable nation for its size, but the Aquios cannot have missed the Pax... Hell, they were the neighbors of the nation. However, Hive signals had been cut off after the wall was built, and what better place to hide than the Packilvanian border... Maybe the Aquios net needs to be introduced to the Hive. Hell, this may be the chance to aquire new Earth-bound Territories. The whole Trioni thing degraded after that bastard grew to arrogant. for now, diplomacy. War later if favorable.' **Thought Processes. The Pax is generally a large Hive society of mechanized humans/ other creatures. Assimilation is an ongoing thing for them. Another "Hive-Like" society would be a big ol' target for them. Especially since you exist on our border :P** Diplomatic Hive Transmission "Peoples of the 'Other Net'. I greet you in the name of the Hive. For to long has the wall existed between the Pax and its neighbors. We wish to open the border. The wall is being torn down, and soon the Hive signals will once again spread. We allow any person to join the Hive of their own will, however, once they join they are a Drone. It worked in FPS long ago, and we expect it to work again... We see cause for concern in the detonation of a grade 7 <low yield> nuclear device so near our borders. We advise you to take caution in doing so again. As we said before, the 'wall' is being dismantled, and soon you will see the might of Packilvania on your border." Hive troop orders "Send 10 million cybernetic troops to the Aquios border. Its time they see us for what we are. Once that wall drops, they are in for a suprise. I've let them develop, to see what an alternative Hive form could take, but i am disapointed. It is time to take 'little brother' and mold him. But first, Military might." "...but Tlant sir... 10 million is more troops than most nations have in their populations.... this could be seen as an invasion preperation..." "My intention. It should scare them into at least a temporary submission. And if they do attack... Well, this time it will be a retaliation, unlike Trioni. We could assimilate them with little outside resistance. Hell, we might even be able to convince the Loop to assist." **Irony** The Wall It took a lot of power and resources to maintain the illusion. Especially to keep the two different systems from interacting, much less hide its fleet. Packilvania had probably not hid itself entirely from the young nation, but it probably held most of its structure in the shadows. As the hive signal reached the wall, the illusion cracked. Mounmental structures would soon be seen on the Aquios horizon, as the Packilvanian landscape was revealed. The troops were busy creating a military encampment... Ironic as military presence had not been required INSIDE the Packilvanian borders for a long time. it was but a small fraction of the total power of the Pax though... More important than either of the two physical anomolieas about to be fully revealed, was the hive signal that would now nearly flood the Aquios territories. No doubt they would notice that. ***Trying to find a creative explanation as to why Packilavnia has not invaded you yet. We tend to do that. Play it how you will. The cloaking techs, and the Signal restrictions I'm basing off the same priniple as the penetrators missiles. Codexian tech that was raided and re-engineered for military purposes. It's crude comparitivley, yes, but it's all I could think of that could possibly explain this Good job on your RP.***

Still idly chatting to representatives of Govindia and Neo Arcadia, Elric winced as the call to an urgent meeting impinged on his consciousness. Taking a few moments to prepare his mind, he allowed his awareness to split. He winced, if it could be called that, for this part of him had no body to wince with. The other noticed, smiled. "It'll get easier" "So I have been reassured, on many occasions," he retorted, not a little sarcastically. "I trust there is a reason for my forthcoming headache?" She nodded. "A situation in AquinasNet. Originally nothing to be concerned about - as far as we can tell - and our intelligence networks aren't what they used to be, as you well know - as far as we can tell, it started as some kind of dissident action. A conventional electromagnetic pulse detonation in a province called Beta Secundus. The country is largely governed by an emergent AI also referred to as AquinasNet. Codex has prepared a detailed analysis of the nature of the country for you to browse at your discretion. Shortly afterwards, a low-yield nuclear device was detonated at the same site. We believe this to be a retaliatory strike by the governing AI." She paused a second, looking towards Elric as if expecting him to say something. He finally arched an eyebrow at her, questioningly. "We have no relationship with AquinasNet. If there's to be any emissary, it's logically Codex. You still haven't given me a reason for pulling me here." Avila nodded in assent. The scenery around them shifted, setting them down near the ground between the lands of AquinasNet and Packilvania. In the distance, the demolition of the Packilvanian Wall was visible, as was the buildup of troops behind it. Elric smiled, a little wryly. "I should have known, although I had hoped that General Tlant's replacement of Father might have brought an end to this." She shrugged. "Some things are not likely to change." He stretched his fingers out, the sense of frustration carrying across the shared medium they inhabited. "This is why we almost didn't return. This is what the others were worried about... that we'd be caught up in things like this, lose track of our purpose." She frowned at him. "Our goals are not hindered by this, as you well know. As did they. And you also knew that this would happen, and you led us; you argued for return. Did you truly expect to sit on the sidelines once more? Like it or not, we have returned, and we must play a part - or what else is our little 'gathering' about?" He dropped his head a little. "I know. Consider it a diversionary tactic... I'm trying to avoid the issue of how to try and negotiate with Packilvania. Much as I dislike it, it must be admitted that the threat of force is sometimes useful in these types of discussions. There's only so much you can achieve with good manners and reasoned argument." She smiled, and gasped in the appearance of shock. "Heresy!" It shook him out of the sombre mood. "My apologies, my lady. Still, it would be amusing to see Tlant's reaction if I threatened to drop his entire country into a stellar core if he refused to co-operate." She laughed, moving closer to him and taking his hand. "I'll bet. But you'd just get bored soon enough, and you know it. It'd take all the fun out of things." He pulled away from her slightly. "Time then, I suppose, for me to talk to our friend the General." Giving her hand a final squeeze, he stepped away and his presence removed itself from the reality they had inhabited. <<<MESSAGE TO HAOR CHALL>>> TO: The Haor Chall Government FROM: Johnathan Ranclaw SUBJECT: The Situation At Hand MESSAGE: Our sensors recently picked up an EMP pulse, followed by a low yeild nuclear detonation. Shortly afterwards, the systematic destruction of your cities. These actions have been found to be disturbing by my goverment. I ask you to keep whatever destruction with in your own boaders. We don't want the region going up in flames, again. Once you have resolved your conflict we would be interested in opening diplomatic and trade relations with your country. Our policy is usually one of non-interfearence, and since we have little information about your country it would be appreciated if you provide us with some infomation. In return, we will give you information on our military colony. -John Ranclaw <<<END MESSAGE>>> <<<MESSAGE TO THE PACKILVANIAN HIVE>>> TO: General Tlant CC: The Packilvanian Government FROM: Johnathan Ranclaw SUBJECT: The Situation At Hand MESSAGE: Sensors have detected a mass movement of your troops to the boarders of Haor Chall. A word of advice, don't get stupid. I understand we are military and trade allies, and the details are yet to be fully worked out, but pleace, in the name of Aoura, DON'T BE STUPID!!! The last thing we need is the region to go up in flames, again. If the Haor Challs do something stupid enough, we'll back you all the way. As impressive as both our militaries are, we both know not to pick a futile fight, or a pointless one. In other news, we have recieved word that our networks can now be linked together. Expect VR tourists form our galaxy soon. -John Ranclaw <<<END MESSAGE>>> |

OOC: Yup, Haor Chall is my TNP nation. Sorry for the confusion. Humanity was threatened. The directive of the Network was to protect Humanity. Humanity was the greatest threat to itself. Of course, it could check and mantain its own systems but it had no way to measure its own change in mental processes. A computer with some kind of psychosis? Illogical. As far as it was possible for an AI construct to be, Aquinas was alarmed by the sudden changes occuring on the western border. Information, mostly inaccurate and reactionary, abounded on the Pax Hives. Even for the powerful systems of the Aquinasnet sifting through the data to uncover as much accurate information as possible was difficult. More information was required. None the less, one salient point stood out; the forces Aquinas had- even in their entirety could not hope to stand against the might of Packilvania. Another solution was required. A new equation had to be written... |

MESSAGE TO AQUINAS LEADERSHIP: We will open an embassy on our own soil, in our capital city of Krechenstadt. We shall send an ambassador to your nation as soon as possible. The Central Committee is glad to find that your nation is willing to open diplomatic relations. Our soldiers will be removed from the border over the coming weeks, on the condition that no more violence takes place. |

Somewhere in the rubble of Beta Segundus A clawed talon-like hand reached out from the rubble. Soon, metallic wings appeared, spread out, followed by the rest of what appeared to be a cybernetic hawk-like being. Warhawk, known by his Clone Trooper ID as RC-0000, was unique, in his training, his armour, and his purpose. He was the first Clone Trooper given specialised training by both Jango Fett and the Ordo Mandalorian Clan. He was as he was trained: Dha Werda Verda (The Warriors of the Shadow). It was a good thing he went into the highest level of his Wraith body armour, a step up from the Katarn body armour worn by his regular model counterparts. Without the Hawk battle mode, he certainly would not have survived the nuclear blast in his other two modes. He could not do anything to save the rebels. He had a mission to do, and now that he received his information, he needed to return back, ASAP. Gra'tua cuun hett su dralshy'a. Ka'rta Tor., he thought in Mandalorian. Our vengeance burns brighter still. One heart of Justice. With that, he activated stealth mode, and with his jet boosters activated, at maximum burn, he flew out of Beta Segundus, through the area that was blind to Aquinas's sensors, and flew towards his base, currently at Mach 2.78 and counting, flying below 200 metres. |

The transport aerodyne roared above the ground at breakneck speed. Since it was not carrying human passangers on this leg of the trip there was no need to moderate its speed. The Free Pacific States northern most radar station quickly picked up the fast moving plane as it rumbled into their airspace. A few terse communications with the capital later the radar station stood down its air defences. A few seconds later the aerodyne flew past, the station commander unable to follow the speeding plane as it roared further into the Free Pacific States. "... AquinasNet diplomatic transport you are cleared to land on runway five five seven, we have ground staff ready to refuel you and to receive the ambassador over..." The aerodynes computer network, not designed for conversation, acknowledged the transmission tersely, as it slowed to land. Braking with a speed that would have crushed a human in second the transport aerodyne landed smoothly on the runway. Its engines whined as it taxied across the runway, slowly coming to a stop before the assembled dignitaries and airport crew. Its engines idling, a ramp hissed down from the side of the aerodyne, setting down on the concrete runway with a metallic clunk. A gold hued robot, of averge human stature, stepped down from the plane and walked towards the waiting dignitaries. Its head was a flat oval shape, until some kind of flowing metal ran across it to form a three dimensional face. "I bring greetings from Aquinas. We look forward to relations with the Free Pacific States." |

"We look forward to relations with AquinasNet just as much. I'm Joan O'Conner, Vice President of FPS." She offered a hand...though she wasn't sure it was custom in AquinasNet, it was worth a try, at least. OOC: Sorry for the lengthy time its taken... "Such an unusual human gesture." The machine said as it extended its arm and shook hands with the vice president. The voice had changed, grown deeper and more ponderous, "This machine has a limited internal AI system to allow it to deal with most situations. I can speak through this machine and communicate directly with you. I am Aquinas. This transport will be able to take up to 30 humans and can take your embassy staff back within the boundries of the Network. Rest assured it will travel within acceptable parameters for comfortable human existance." |
