Vast factories churned billowing clouds of smoke and residual waste into the air as massive mechanised production lines assembled thousands of new machines for the Aquinas Network. It was the height of computerised logical and almost flawless efficiency. Machines built machines and in ever greater numbers.

And there were not the same basic mechs seen before throughout the area of the AquinasNet. These were much more heavily armoured and armed, machines designed for conquest.

The human population within the Network slaved away in the heavy industries, mining the raw materials necessary for production. While a machine may have done the job quicker it was the most efficient use of the unskilled human labour force that the Aquinas Network could think of. Its twisted programming still prevented it from wiping out the remaining humans altogether.

Its armies raised, not requiring rest or provisions, it was time for this new power to begin its expansion…

+++

Somewhere to the east of the Aquinas Network…

The massive armoured transport vehicle rumbled across the open ground near the border between Krechzianko and the AquinasNet. It stopped a few meters away from a convoy of armoured cars which stood idling, the Krechzianko flag fluttering from the antenna on the rear of the lead vehicle.

A silver plated robot stepped out of the Aquinas transport, it was of roughly human shape- except the head which was an large blank oval covered in some kind of flowing metal which at the moment seemed to just drift around the robots face. As it stepped near the Krechzianko delegation the flowing, liquid-like, metal swirled around to form the semblance of a non-descript human face. Even the lips moved as the machine spoke. “I bring tidings from Aquinas. When I speak, it is the Aquinas Network which speaks through me.”

"Excellent." the leader of the Krech representatives stepped forward, somewhat taken aback by the sight of a robot speaking to him. "I am Marshall Brownoff, commander of the military of the People's Socialist Republic of Krechzianko. "Shall we begin, comrade?"

Behind the Marshall, several high-ranking officers stood silently. They were protected by a full battalion of Krech infantry. As Brownoff spoke, his troops monitored the surrounding rice paddies and forests for any sign of snipers or rebels.

Soon, Krechzianko's territorial expansion would be complete. It would finally have the power its leaders had always sought.

"As you wish Marshall. My troops are in position on the border and the aerodyne squadrons are on standby should they be required. All they await is the signal." The flowing metal formed a smiled on the machines face. "I look forward to this display of the Krechzianko military firepower."

"My forces are moving into position as we speak. The spacefleet is fully armed and is in low orbit over the target area. The initial bombardments can begin in only a few minutes, should your government approve. Central Command has estimated that Krech ground troops will be able to move in by tomorrow at the latest. The timing of your assault is up to your own leaders, naturally." Brownoff drew a cigarette for himself and hesitated, wondering if he should offer one to a robot. He decided that it probably didn't smoke. "Shall we begin the preliminary bombing, then?"

"Indeed. I am sure the bombardment would be most impressive. Aquinas mechs will move in as soon as the bombardment is finished to seize the border positions. We must also discuss how we shall partition the country. Our main concern is to gain a viable seaport for the Aquinas Network." The robot paused, looking up into the sky, "We must also discuss the possibility of sharing information. We would be most interested in moving our space program forward."

"Perfect. The Central Committee wouldn't mind sharing the port of Roi with AquinasNet, so long as Krechzianko acquires everything east of the city. We'll discuss the specifics later, however." Brownoff turned to his subordinate officers and flicked his wrists. One of the men pulled out a cellular phone and handed it to him. He dialed a number:

"This is Brownoff. We're cleared to begin the assault. I'll return to Central Command as soon as possible." He turned back to the Aquinas representative. "The bombradment shall begin in a few minutes."

PKSS FUSAKU SHIGENOBU, MILES OVER GREAT BAY:

The Admiral of the Krech spacefleet looked out from the brige of his craft, astounded by the beautiful landscape laid out below. Small, grayish masses dotted with lights could obviously be identified as cities, while wide expanses of farmland and forest brightened the earth with various types of foliage.

He turned from the massive windows and summoned the chief gunnery officer.

"What's our weapons status, Lieutenant?"

"Everything is armed and ready, Admiral. The other ships are prepared as well." he saluted as he spoke.

"Very well. You may fire when ready."

Within a few minutes, the gunners were taking aim at their respective targets in Great Bay. Every man knew his objective and was prepared to destroy ground resistance. The order eventually came through on the crewmens' communicators.

"Open fire!"

In a series of incredible explosions eminating from the ships' gun barrels, ammunition rained down on the planet. Specialized mortar shells were the most important ammunition, with thousands of 105mm armor-piercing rounds being aimed at fortified positions. The men of the Krech spacefleet aimed with precision and accuracy; in a few minutes it was, for the most part, over. Hundreds of targets, from tank platoons to military barracks to government headquarters, were being annihilated.

"The preliminary bombardment is finished, Admiral. We estimate a high success rate, based on satellite photos."

"Very good. Proceed to secondary and tertiary targets. Support low-level and ground forces wherever necessary."

OVER THE BORDER BETWEEN GREAT BAY AND KRECHZIANKO:

Dozens of high-speed fighter-bombers cruised over the border, their missile racks loaded with anti-armor and anti-fortification munitions.

"Alright, comrades. Let's do some damage, over!"

"Yessir! Proceed to targets immediately."

The jet planes were flying nearly at Mach 1, but the pilots didn't mind. They were the 'cream of the crop'. The pilots of the 156th Light Air Attack Regiment knew what they were doing, and they were about to fulfill their missions.

The planes rocketed over several small villages and militia bases before reaching their main targets. A series of fenced-in barracks and air-defense positions dotted the landscape of central Great Bay.

"We have acquired targets on HUD. We are ready to fire, over."

"Good. Take 'em out!"

Rockets poured from underwing missile containers mounted on the fighter-bombers. Pilots cheered and shouted as they released their triggers and watched the ammunition fly towards the earth. Some swore angrily over the radio as their weapons flew wide of targets or detonated prematurely. It was, overall, a textbook example of a well-planned and -coordinated air strike.

The nation of Vladistock Island offers its support to its ally, Krechzianko, in this venture. Should you need military support (though it seems you have things quite under control), the People's army is at the ready.

A flight of AquinasNet aerodynes roared across the sky above Great Bay, their silver wings glittered in the sun. These fighters came as a suprise to the Krechzianko pilots in the air, for these planes had no pilot and therefore did not even possess a cockpit. The aerodynes roared past, already flying at near Mach 3 they began turning sharper than any human could withstand, without seeming to slow down. Controlled by the ever-present Aquinas Network they opened fire with pinpoint accuracy on the anti-aircraft installations below...

+++

The ground troops began swarming in over the border. Giant armoured tanks rumbled across the ground, they doubled as transports, carrying dozens of heavily armed combat mechs compressed into the rear of the tanks hull.

A battalion of Great Bay soldiers had set up defenses around the nearest village which covered the main road towards the capital. As the tanks began to pound the outer areas of the village the mechs unfolded from the rear of the tank and began to march on the village. Streams of gunfire burst around the mechs who continued to advance implacably. Most of the fire was ineffective bouncing from the metal bodies of the armoured mechs. A few, however, were knocked the ground smoking holes in their carapace.

Once in range the mechs returned fire. Equipped with motion and infrared scanners, as well as built in stabilisers the mechs retalition was deadly in its accuracy. By the time the mechs reached the outer walls most of its defenders were dead. The few left had retreated back within the village.

Support machines, rolled up behind the advance, repairing damaged mechs were they could and marking those beyond repair for return to the Network where they would be dismantled and the materials reused.

The few remaining soldiers were quickly rounded up and killed. With the success of the operation the village was quickly secured by the standard pattern mechs who moved in to begin policing and processing the villages population...

TEN MILES PAST KRECH-GREAT BAY BORDER:

The People's 15th Mechanized Infantry Division rolled along the wide, open rice paddies, its amphibious tanks bobbing up and down as they crossed low ravines and ponds. Hundreds of tanks and armored transports were roaring across the open low-lying plains which marked the Krech-Bay border region, low-flying aircraft supporting their assault.

"Forward, comrades! Enemy position ahead!"

The lead tank crews spotted a small enemy machinegun position, hidden behind a muddy berm. The Great Bay troops were clearly terrified, many trying to escape as the armored troops came nearer. When the Krech tanks were less than fifty yards away, they opened up. Dozens of 105mm shells poured into the tiny defensive structure, killing every soldier inside. After a brief pause, several infantry fighting vehicles drove ahead to scout out further defenses. A platoon of well-trained mechanized infantrymen leapt from their transports and took cover behind an abandoned house as they scanned the battlefield.

"We have identified an enemy armored platoon, location is...Five-five point thirty-three by seventy-two. Estimated six medium tanks dug-in behind berms, requesting air support, over."

Within a few moments, the screech of fighter-bombers rang out across the rice plains. A squadron of J-XX attack craft flew only a few hundred feet over the Krech soldiers' heads as they released their missile pods into the Great Bay positions. There was a strange, brief silence in the seconds before the bombs hit the ground. When the smoke cleared and the scouts looked through their field glasses, all that remained of the tanks were six smoking craters filled with twisted steel. The advance could continue.

CITY OF ROI, GREAT BAY:

The city's defenders scrambled to take up their positions as bombers rocketed over its buildings. Several tall office towers had been mounted with anti-aircraft weapons, but these could do little against Krechzianko's advanced aircraft. Several squadrons were being employed for this attack, the purpose of which was to annihilate all coastal defenses. The planes ranged across the harbor, dropping bombs on even the slightest signs of movement below. AA guns and missile vehicles were blasted into the air by precision-guided 'smart bombs'. The once-formidable coastal guns pointing into the harbor were being blasted to pieces by Krech firepower, even as their crewmen tried desperately to take out their new attackers.

Meanwhile, only a few miles off the coast, Krech Marines were being loaded onto amphibious hovercraft. A squadron of Navy destroyers were already preparing their cruise missiles and artillery pieces for the final bombardment of their enemies' capital.

Roi - FPS Embassy to Great Bay
Rear Parking Lot
As Samantha Clonis exited the building, onto the parking lot, with the two marines and aide she was taking with her, she felt, more then heard, the embassy's marine CO run out after her. "Ambassador, are you sure about this? The crowd out there is at least 400 strong, all of whom want to get inside the embassy compound. Getting you out there without letting them in will be hard enough...not to mention getting you through the crowd."

"I thought the police were here?"

"Those police that haven't deserted are taking up arms with the military, mam. We've got a single detective helping the marines stand guard."

"Look, their not going to attack, their would be no gain for them. Just open the gate, and have your men hold the crowd for half a minute whislt my car gets out, and then close it again. The gate opens both ways, am I right, so you should have no problem getting it closed...I'm sure your platoon can hold for a few minutes, especially with the volunteers from the diplomatic staff."

"Even if you do get through the crowd, the city is a warzone, in the most literal of terms. Krechziankan naval and air bombardments are cheifly hitting military targets, but everyone misses...shells are coming in all over the city. The city is in chaos...law enforcement doesn't even exist in most of the police stations, and just about every hospital and fire station has been overloaded with panicked and injured civilians. God knows what the streets are like.."

"Look, luitenant, I appreciate the situation, and your concern." Finally reaching her car, the ambassador waited whislt the two marines and her aide got into the car, and one of the marines started it. "But, frankly, its a risk I have to take."

The luitenant's jaw dropped. "Have to take? Its not your job to be there for negotiations.."

"As the only foreign official in the city, Luitenant, it is my job to be there, to act as a nuetral observer. I know you don't like the idea, but unless your going to order your marines to keep me here, I'm going."

Opening the door to the four door black sedan, the ambassador got inside. "Anything else, Luitenant?"

The luitenant nodded. "Yes, mam. Keep the windows rolled up. Their bulletproof. I'll meet you at the rear gate."

"Alright." Closing the door, the ambassador sat back, and felt the car begin to back out of the parking lot, and move towards the embassy's rear gate. Half a minute later, it came to a stop, and the Samantha opened her eyes to see the situation.

In front of her, at the opened gate, a group of ten persons, eight marines, the luitenant, and what she assumed to be the single remaining detective, were holding back a large crowd of people, all of whom wanted amnesty in the embassy. As the car pulled forward, the group of FPS loyalists pushed the crowd back, until the car had entirely gone past the gate.

Next to her window, Clonis heard a knock, and saw the luitenant give her a peace sign. Smiling, she returned the symbol, and then watched as he and his men retreated, closing the gate, and taking up positions aside it.

As the car pulled forward, she could hear some of the civilians banging on it, but no one attempted to break in. Within a few seconds, the crowd had parted enough for movement, and a few seconds after that the vehicle as on its way to the Presidential Palace, via the safest back roads the marines knew of.

COMMUNIQUE TO ALL FOREIGN EMBASSIES IN ROI:

The People's Socialist Republic of Krechzianko and the Aquinas Net are in the process of annexing Great Bay. There is no reason to panic. All embassies shall remain off-limits to Krech personnel for the duration of the attack. However, we request that you do not provide aid or comfort to enemy military units. Any attempts at housing Great Bay soldiers may result in an atack by the People's Army.

Thank you

HARBOR OF ROI:

A full brigade of Krech Marines rode across the shallow waves of the South China Sea's coast. Soldiers spat and swore as their vehicles carried them slowly toward the beaches alongside Roi, where 'Operation Red Eagle' would begin. Within 24 hours, the capital would be in allied hands - so long as the operation was successful. Krech amphibious units would link up with Aquinas forces as soon as they landed, allowing for a joint seizure of the city.

OVER ROI HARBOR:

The pilots of the 173rd Air Transport Regiment looked down at the water below, watching the slow advance of the Marines' amphibious assault forces. Their four helicopters arced rapidly to enter the city as the Engineer detachments within prepared to attack. The mission was to seize the docks and gain an effective beachhead for their Marine counterparts to land on. Bridges would be set up over nearby streams and rivers as well, so that Krech armored platoons could advance unhindered.

The helicopters rotated for a moment, their pilots trying to find the perfect jump point. After a few seconds of searching, the unit dropped in altitude over a small plaza in the downtown sector. The men inside jumped as the rattle of AK-47 fire banged against their transports' armor.

"Go, go, go!" the order was shouted by the jump officer as they hovered dangerously over the shopping plaza. The engineers leapt from the choppers and onto their long ropes - which barely touched the street. A few errant shots bounced off the earth around them as the helicopters lifted back into the sky.

"Alright, men. Fan out and set up some defensive positions." they only numbered one hundred, but the success of Operation Red Eagle depended on them.

Tlant: "Yes... I understand. The Krech are becoming very powerful for a nation their size. Letting them take the city of Roi, and the entire nation of Great Bay may prove a problem."

Overlord: "Yes, Although we mainly use the space fleet for trading nowadays, the Hooplands have been semiautonamous. They stay to themselves, and even use the sea for travel and trade."

Tlant: "Yes, letting the Krech take that large coastal city would be a problem indeed. We must race to take the city before it falls completely into their hands."

Overlord: "But remember the last invasion... The reaction of outside parties..."

Tlant: "This time we will be viewed as saviors to the people we are taking. But that is beside the point. The agression near our Hoopland territory must be brought to and end. Hoopland ships are currently docked in the bay. We will call it an act of protection, but that city will belong to the Pax. Screw the rest of it. Let the Krech build their own port city. Begin immediately. Use the troops that were recalled from the western front. drop them dead center into that city."

A few minutes later...
"Ok troops, this is a race. Screw the normal assimilations. This time we need to secure a large section of the city before the Krech can. Assist the civilians of the nation at all costs, but seize that town. We are clearing a section in the center of town to drop our tank pods. Lets see how they like the mobile death."

Exact center of Roi
"I wonder what they will think when they see this..."

As the pods were filled, a small light was emmited from an orbiting Pax ship. A laser sight the width of one city block was glaring half on a small skyscraper, and half in the street. Onlookers. already terrified of the Krech soldiers on the ground fled in terror. It was a good thing to, because shortly after, the very sun itself ignited on that block. The air itself caught fire as trillions of energized particles cut through the atmosphere, burning everything within 1000 feet. Inside the blast radius though <abou 40 feet> nothing survided. The ground was covered in a silicate debris formed when everything melted, or vaporized. About 30 seconds after the beam hit, a pod was dropped. Streaking towards the Earth, it looked as if a small meteor was about to hit, but it activated the inertial dampeners and slowed to a crawl mere feet before it hit the ground. At this point soldiers and artillery where hitting the pod with little effect. The door opened anyway, and out rolled 5 of the most deadly weapons in the known universe. The Pax tanks sat and cleared the area of any more flak cannons. The signal was given for the troop pods to beggin dropping. The tanks began to roll towards the sea..."

KRECH FIELD HEADQUARTERS, NEAR THE CITY OF ROI:

"I repeat, we are being attacked by unknown forces! Enemy units have landed in Roi; we have not identified them. Well, they must be Bay troops..look, just get reinfocrements and surround the goddamn city!"

Krech troops raced about their temporary camp, arming AA missiles and preparing tanks for a massed advance. Artillery units, several batteries' worth, altered trajectory and prepared to bombard the capital into total submission. All they required was the order from Central Command.

EASTERN GREAT BAY:

"All units: we're altering attack direction, and heading straight for Roi. Ignore all enemy settlements and head for the capital. I repeat, ignore all enemy settlements unless absolutely necessary."

The tanks and transports of the 15th Mechanized Division altered their assault's direction and headed West-by-Southwest. The vehicles slammed into high gear as they roared to the coastal city of Roi.

ROI HARBOR:

The amphibious transport units slammed into the coast only a few miles from Roi. The vehicles slowed down significantly as they hovered low over the sandy beaches, infantry companies pouring out onto the landing zone. As the gates on the hovercrafts opened up, tanks and IFVs rolled out onto the soft earth to accompnay the ground troops. Lead elements of the Marine force charged up to the low seawall and fired a few pot shots into the abandoned defenses ahead. There was no resistance; a few dozen Great Bay soldiers waved white pieces of cloth alongside the few artillery and MG positions that remained.

"Move ahead, men. We're seizing the town of Krazlar a couple miles inland, so get your shit together. Apparently they've got some new weapon in Roi and we've gotta surround 'em before they try to break out.

CENTRAL ROI:

"What the hell was that!?" Private Yelniko of the Engineers was hiding in an abandoned house in a poor neighborhood.

"I don't know! I don't know! It's some farkin' missile or something! Just shut up...holy shit." Private Smirnokova opened his mouth in horror.

"What is it, man!?" he gripped his rifle and moved toward the windows of the darkened room.

"Some kinda huge farkin' tanks. They must be aliens, or Packs, or somethin'. The Bayites couldn't have stuff like this."

Yelniko overcame his fear and looked out the window, only to see exactly what his friend described. "Jesus Christ. The others must be dead. How many guys do you think lived?"

"I dunno, just shut the hell up and listen to me. We gotta get out of here."

SOUTHERN KRECHZIANKO:

"Prepare the low-yield missiles for launch, comrade. If they don't back down, we may have to use them."

OOC: Just a note, Krech, you can't use those nukes without contacting me for authorization.

Wow..this is turning into a lot of fun..
IC:
Roi - Central City Area
FPS Embassy Vehicle
"What in the hell is going on.." As the car turned the corner, the marine driver looked at the skyscraper down the street from the vehicle...which was turning yellow.

"STOP! STOP THE CAR!" The aide, who had been looking through the two front seat centers, recognized what was happening immediatly. He'd been in HoopHoopLand when the Packs had attacked it. In front of him, the marine didn't wait, slamming the breaks, and bringing the vehicle to a stop...just inside the particle beam zone.

"Shit! Turn us around! Turn us around, now!" The other marine said, watching as the area became more and more yellow.

The driver put the vehicle in reverse, and hit the gas...to feel nothing happen. Again, he hit the gas, and then quickly switched the car off and back on. "My God...the heat must have melted the engine.."

The ambassador swore. "Out! Now!" Most of the civilians had already cleared the area...only a few Bayitian civilians remained, with emergency service personel quickly ushering them out. No one knew what was going on, in the crowd, but every knew to run.

Jumping out, Samantha, the two marines, and the aide began to dash out of the radius. And just in time. As the ran, the area behind them was incinerated in a large flame, before peices of liquid hot metal fell from the sky.

As they ran, one of the marines spotted a small side alley that was being bypassed by the crowd of panicked civilians. "Over there!"

The four ran over, and jumped behind the wall, the two marines staying closest to the edge, the ambassador the furthest away. For several seconds, they waited.

"Whats going on?" The ambassador asked.

"Pax." The aide replied. "I remember, in HoopHoopLand..it should happen any second now."

"What should hap..." The marine was cut off by a large sonic boom, as the tank pod roared into the atmosphere. The four FPS citizens peered around the corner, and watched, for about thirty seconds, as the pod streaked to the Earth, and then ignited its landing rockets, coming to a peaceful stop.

"What in the hell are the Pax doing here?" One of the marines asked.

"Territorial aquisition." The ambassador responded, laughing meeky. "Damn they know what their doing. Publicly, they'll be seen as saviors...what, with the treatment that the Aquinians are rumored to be giving civilians, and the Krechziankans invading without reason. I mean...look!"

As the tanks rolled out, a group of police officers, as well as several Bayitan Soldiers approached them, weapons at ready. One of the tank's tops opened, and a Pax jumped out, and walked over to the group. After about thirty seconds, they lowered their weapons, and one of the soldiers saluted the Pax, who returned it immediatly.

"What do we do?" The marine that had been driving asked.

"Run." The aide said. "Run, now, fast. The Krechs will probably get into battle with the Pax...and the Pax will be landing reinforcemen.." He was cut off by nearly a dozen sonic booms, as large white dots appeared in the sky above them. "Here they come..by God, we can't let them catch us. We've gotta go, now!"

The four turned, to run down the alley...and realized it was a dead end. The aide swore. "We'll have to go out in the street."

"Negative." The marine guard, who'd been in the passenger seat, pointed to a service door to the building in the opposite direction of the initial Pax. "That way."

The aide nodded, and started for the door. "Wait!" The soldier said. Turning, the aide faced him.

"What?"

The soldier withdrew his sidearm, and that of his comrade, giving one to the ambassador, and one to the aide. "I'll take point, Faln here," he motioned to the other marine. "Brings up the rear. You two take center...you see anybody pointing a gun at us, just point yours at them, and shoot. Safeties are off. Should you run out of ammo, let us know."

The ambassador nodded. "Thank you, Kristolm.." She said, reading his nametag. "His name is Thomson, by the way."

The marine nodded to the aide. "Pleasure to be your aquaintance. Now, lets get going." Taking point, the marine fired several rounds into the door's lock, and then lead the way in, his weapon at ready. Behind him, the aide, then the ambassador, and finally the driver followed, all with weapons at ready.

OOC: I'm assuming that Pack would be a couple blocks from the local law enforcement, military, civil emergency, and government headquarters, seeing as he just landed in the center of town. And seeing as my people were on the way to the Presidential Palace...well, yeah. Make sense they'd be there.

FPS embassy is near the city center, towards the docks.

The quiet hum of the power generators was the only noise in the central tower of the City on the Hill. Inside the armoured shell of the tower the central core of the Aquinas Network watched the situation unfolding in Great Bay. Computation: Probability of success in war with Packilvania, zero. However would the situation esculate into a full scale war, unlikely. A three pronged attack would be necessary.

Aquinas ordered the majority of the mechs to continue to march south through the western area of Great Bay to secure it for the Network. A small force of mechs was then ordered east towards Hoi to aid the Krech in their attempt to take the city.

The third prong of the attack was through the international media...

"In this small town the Aquinas have been treated as liberators by the general populace. Originally many were unsure what the invasion held, whilst people here have long dispaired about their corrupt government few expected anything to change so soon. Advanced machines, robots even, for Aquinas have already arrived in the town and set about with radical improvements. The quality of life here has improved dramatically over the short period of time the Aquinas Network has been in control here- the water and electricity supplies have been improved and the towns central hospital is now well equipped with supplies it had previously been unable to afford. The local residents, though now filled with hope are concerned by the news of the Pax invasion of the capital city of Hoi. Despite the preciously poor education system and the lack of international communication, even people here have heard of the Pax and many fear that they now, as things seem to improve they make take a turn for the worse again. Gregory Simms, East Pacific News, Moi, Great Bay."

The AquinasNet tanks rumbled down the arterial road that led to Hoi, fully charged and ready for battle this division had one noticable difference to the others deployed by Aquinas.

The tank at the centre of the formation was slightly larger and had numerous antennae clustered around its turret. A large machine was sat in the command seat of the tank, yet another difference from the other tanks, it was of slightly larger than human build and with a head reminicant of a human skull. This was the one human in the AquinasNet military.

Humans were generally unpredictable at the best of times. Quite irritating to the rational thought processes of the AI. Even its emergent programs could not match the sheer random unpredictablity of a human. Whilst the AI was well suited for the strategic view of war, able to comprehend the vast theatres involved in a way not possible for a human mind, but the tactical level of warfare was often beyond its control. Things would change quickly and rarely logically. Humans were rarely logical. As such a human, especially bred for the purpose of course, would be of great use to the military machine of the Network. It, for it had no need for a real name- it was only called the "General", could barely be called human still. All that remained of its once human form was its brain, part of the spinal cord and its heart. The rest had been replaced by a much more powerful and efficient robot form. This human-machine had not only great understanding of the tactical nature of warfare it was an expert shot and a close combat specialist. It helped that even part of its brain had been removed, allowing for machine memory to be added.

His orders for the moment were simply to enter the city and link up with the soliders from Krechzianko...

Kreft stood up, turned off the television and walked to the open veranda. Things had hardly slowed down since his retirement it seemed. Always some major situation that required his advice and comment. As he had stepped out of the public limelight, he had accepted the previous kind offers by his old friends and now had two good legs. One was metal, but the circuitry was minimal. He had made sure hacking wouldn't be an issue. Sadly, it didn't take away the aches and pains of an old warhorse.

"You can tell the commander that there is little to be concerned of on our end. We of course should help, but with Trioni... well one can only care for so many people at a time."

The aide in the shadows noded. Kreft had an erie way of knowing when someone was nearby. It caught him off gaurd every time.

"Oh, and hand me the phone before you go."

The aide placed the wireless phone on the unfinished wood banister.

Message sent to the Krech alliance

"Greetings. I am sure by now you are well aware of the events unfolding in the city of Roi. For many years, the Hoopian state has used said port as near its own, and cutting the lifeline to said city would devastate the Hoopian state, forcing them to rely even more on Pax interference. This being said, we offer a compromise to you. We will not interfere with your war of conquest, but the port city of Roi will be left as it is, and you will allow any citezens of Great Bay to emigrate into this city. The Pax will provide defense, and an interm government for the city. **Note: Basically turns it into something like the Hoopian state** We do not wish to begin a major war, but events force our hand yet again. I hope you make the right decision and pull away from the Pax-Roi borders."

Instant Propaganda

"My bretheren of the EP. Today an imperialistic alliance was forged and two nations brutally attacked an already stable nation. Unlike the wars of past, this nation was fully functional and was a valued trade partner of the EP. While the Pax no longer desire war on a global scale, we have taken steps to ensure the survival of the Great Bay people. The Pax have garrisoned the city of Roi, and are prepared to defend it as they would the Pax Fatherlands. Blatant imperialism must NOT be tolerated among the EP when the targets are fully capable of supporting themselves.

Roi
Around the city Pax personel were landing and setting up positions. Artillery beam systems were being set up to burn off anything that approached the city. Pax troops now marched the streets along with Great Bay troopers and police. Tlant was even negotiating laying cyber creep out over the city to make it impenatrable to any form of ground attack. Throughout the cuty though, there were a few persons that were trying to avoid the Pax... For obvious reasons.

***OOC: Ok, I have realized that I cannot portray FPS citezens properly, and thus am waiting for FPS's return before I mount any sort of city sweep.***

MESSAGE TO PAX LEADERSHIP:

We can accept your offer of emigration and political independence. However, we can not accept a military garrison of the city of Roi. It must be made a demilitarized zone, devoid of military forces from any nation. We shall halt our attack, but you must pull all forces from Roi as soon as possible.

SUBURBS EAST OF ROI:

The 15th Mechanized Infantry and Armored Division rolled, in two columns, down the suburban streets. All of the surrounding houses were silent; the few residents still there were terrified of these invaders. Nobody dared agitate the Krech troops.

As the advancing vehicles slowed down, infantry units waiting inside the IFVs leapt out and continued on foot nearby. Many rode atop their transports to avoid walking such a long distance. They gossiped about the new weapons in the heart of Roi, now only a couple of miles away. Some were scared, but most of the troops were simply too confident in their fighting abilities. They grinned at the prospect of blowing up these powerful machines and gloriously returning to the Motherland.

An officer eventually shouted out from a tank. "Men, we've just receieved new orders. We're to turn around and pull back to the city limits! Pack troops are taking over and we hafta get the hell outta here!" The men shouted and moaned in anger, but inwardly many were relieved that there would be no fighting.

-----

Only a few miles away, another armored unit was grinding along the city's Northern edge. The 438th Heavy Armored Regiment was roaring along, crushing any of the puny resistance that remained in the surrounding area. They were to link up with Aquinas troops in the outskirts of Roi when the time came. Many of the crewmen were more than a little scared at the idea of meeting these 'robot troops', but they were curious as well.

++Greetings. I am Aquinas.++

++We have assessed your concerns and understand your reasoning++

++We suggest an alternate compromise++

++We will leave the city of Roi open to the Hoopian State++

++However military garrison and control by the Packilvania Hive is unacceptable++

++Suggest that control of Roi is handed over to a joint administration run by the people of Great Bay as a protectorate of the Aquinas Network and Krechzianko++

++We suggest this would be mutually beneficial to all++

"Such a compromise is unnacceptable. THe city will be left defensless as we leave, and it would ultimately be up to the citezens to make the choice of who stays and who goes. As per an offer of military administration of Roi by the Krech or the Aquinas, that is also unnacceptable. You are the ones invading this nation, and allowing either of your nations to have a say in this cities ruling would be allowing you the total conquest."

MESSAGE TO PAX:

Krechzianko will not accept any less than total demilitarization on the part of the Pax. We will not occupy the city and will not interfere in its affairs. However, no long-term garrison by the Pax can be allowed. The Krech plan, as outlined by the Central Committee, is thus:

1: Demilitarization of Roi.
2: Roi shall become a semi-independent State under joint administration of The Pax, Krechzianko, and AquinasNet.
3: Roi shall not possess any military, and only a small police force may be maintained.
4: A neutral nation shall oversee the demilitarization of Roi.
5: The remainder of Great Bay shall be divided between the Allied states as we see fit.

These are the only conditions Krechzianko will accept at this time.

CENTRAL COMMAND, KRECHENSTADT:

The Premier sat at the long, black table which made up the center of the War Room. He was surrounded by Generals, diplomats, and statisticians of all kinds.

"Well, men, what are we going to do about this?"

"If I may, comrade-Premier?" an officer stood up from his seat. He flicked a small switch on a handheld remote, turning off the room's lights and lowering a large computer projection screen alongside the table. "We have men positioned all around Roi. Current statistics indicate at least 200,000 personnel, many of them armored units, are poised to attack the city when necessary." on the screen, the picture zoomed in on the area surrounding Great Bay's capital. "If we drove into the city immediately, we would suffer only minimal and acceptable casualties."

"I hardly think a full-scale assault is necessary, General. I don't want to get my men slaughtered."

"Look, comrade-Premier, I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed. But I am saying that we would suffer no more than, say, ten- to twenty-thousand military casualties."

"I won't allow that. We can't get our army slaughtered any more. That's happened more than enough during my administration."

"But Premier, if we give in to an enemy nation's demands again, we'll be humbled even more than we were after Vladistock. We currently have three men for every one of theirs in Great Bay. We could easily double them in numbers, and still have a sizeable force left over for any other contingency."

As they argued, the Minister of Foreign Relations stood up at his seat. "Comrade-Premier, may I speak? If we gave in to some of their demands, we could still maintain our national military integrity quite easily. You will note that the Packs use propaganda as a deterrent against their enemies. That is the art of deterrence, you know: to instill, in the enemy, the fear to attack. If we could flood the East Pacific with subtle propaganda, if we could engage on more of these imperialistic ventures...we could easily recoup any diplomatic losses made today."

"Very well, Comrade-Minister. Tell the Packs that we'll let them have Roi. And tell the Aquinas people that we'll build a new port a few miles away and share that, if they want."

MESSAGE TO PAX LEADERSHIP:

Krechzianko has, after a great deal of discussion, decided that we can accept a Pax occupation of Roi, so long as the military garrison in the city is minimal. On the above condition, we agree to cede the city to the Pax in its entirety.

MESSAGE TO AQUINASNET LEADERSHIP:

Krechzianko has agreed to cede Roi to the Pax. The Central Committee has decided that a new port shall be built, either in Krech or Aquinas territory. Such a port could be divided between the two parties or shared mutually. The decision belongs to the Aquinas government.

SOMEWHERE IN ROI:

"Jesus! Get down, a squad of 'em are coming!"

"What the hell is going on? What are the farkin' Packs doin' here?"

"Ever heard a' Hoophoopland, idiot? They're invading from there." The two Engineers crawled into another abandoned house as several Pax troops marched past. "That's it. I'm gonna take 'em out."

"No, you FARKIN'-" his sentence was cut short by a burst of fire from Smirnokova's rifle. Bullets flew wildly into the squad of Pax drones...

"THOMSON!!!"

"Huh?" The aide zoned back in from his song, and glanced at the marine guard from where he was sitting, below a first floor window. "We're moving! C'mon!"

"Oh..right." Standing up from where he'd been sitting during the groups short rest, the aide went into the next room, where the other three of the party were waiting. "Sorry." The three nodded to them, casting wary glances to each other, before the the lead marine, who had now identified himself as Lands-Corporal Kristolm, pointed across the street.

"Now, as much as we'd all like to move back to the security of the embassy, the ambassador believes it imperative we reach the capital building before anyone else. And, seeing as the Pax didn't even look at a map of the city before landing, and as they have to worry about civilians and the like, and the Krechs have to worry about resistance...that shouldn't be impossible. But it'll be hard, and with the city a warzone, quite dangerous."

Foln, the other marine, spoke up. "Which means you both need to keep your heads down. Leave security to us..we'll tell you where to shoot if its necesary." The ambassador and the aide nodded, and the corporal motioned across the street. "Les get a move on."

The other three nodded, and, reassembling their earlier order, sprinted across the street to the next building. In the distance, they could hear the Pax preparing to move through the city.

OOC: Eh, before I can really do much more then movement, I need Pack troops actualy moving outside of the central city..

++Message to the Krechzianko Leadership++

++We agree with the action taken++

++Our preference would be for the new port city to be build north of Roi, the terrain is better suited to a facility of that kind++

++We understand this will place the port in Kreckzianko aquisitions++

++We have no problem with Krechzianko control of the city provided part of the port is provided for the use of the Aquinas Network++

++That is considered the optimum solution++

Throughout the city, the citezens of Great bay breathed a sigh of releif. Although their very motherland was being divided between imperialistic powers, the city of Roi was able to stand.

The pax troopers began to spread out of the town, taking up garrisons on the outer perimeter. Techically they were outside the city, but military precautions had to be taken.

ooc: Well, HC, I can't build a port to the north of Roi. The light blue circle on my map didn't actually represent water, just the city limits. I'll just build it somewhere close to that.

COASTAL REGION EAST OF ROI:

Thousands of workers landed at the makeshift airport, their huge transport planes flying across the runway as they reached the destination. For now, it was a medium-sized village. Within a few weeks, Krech laborers (most of them political prisoners) would finish a sizeable port city in its place. For now, the workers laid foundations for military and government buildings as cadres of more skilled builders guided their actions. Large docks and piers were laid out along the harbor while dynamite was used to blast away unnecessary rocks of patches of forest. Factory complexes were built up in amazingly short periods of time, while huge military helicopters placed entire houses atop chalk outlines. Thousands of Krech settlers were expected to flood in, and most of those who had worked on its construction would be freed and given apartments there.

The Western half of the city, which was to be occupied by the AquinasNet, was constructed more slowly and with greater care. A low wall would separate the two sides, with several streets running between them. As requested, piers and dry-docks were laid out along the coastal section of the Net city.

GENERIC SMALL VILLAGE, EASTERN GREAT BAY:

The soldiers entered the town in late morning. They came in with trucks and tanks, as well as Secret Police agents to check for dissenters. The soldiers placed signs up in the town square indicating that it was now officially part of Coastal Province, Krechzianko. The troops went to every home and briefly informed the inhabitants of their citizenship, distributing pamphlets that explained the rights and expectations of Krech citizens. Luckily, English was the premier language in Great Bay, so it was not difficult to inform these townsfolk of their sudden conquest.

PRESS RELEASE BY KRECH MILITARY COMMAND:

We are happy to say that major engagements in Great Bay have ended, and pacification is now in progress. The coast has been reached by Krech and Aquinas troops, and we are in the process of constructing new cities and showing these new citizens the benefits of Krech citizenship. The formerly backwater nation of Great Bay will soon have modern hosptals, new airports, and a functioning government. The People are, for the most part, celebrating our glorious liberation in the name of international socialism. There is little resistance, though rebels and soldiers are still being arrested and put to trial. We shall update the East Pacific as our progress continues.

OOC: Sorry by north I meant sort of north-east/east. My bad.

Soon machines from the Aquinas Network arrived at the site of the new port city, large construction devices were lifted into place by small robots. The small machines fed the raw materials necessary for the construction into the giant maw of the construction devices, numerous claws and articulated hands passed the materials deeper into the furnaces of the giant machine. Out of the other side of the constructor the buildings appeared. The constructor slowly rolled forward on giant catapillar tracks laying down the highly organised habitats of the Aquinas Network.

Towards the farside of the port, away from the Krechzianko divide and near to the coast, construction had begun on a far more complex structure. Massive aircraft rumbled overhead, disengorging the parts necessary for the construction of the Aquinas Hub and its fission power supply. No humans could yet been seen in the Aquinas sector of the city, only silent metal machines walked the streets...
