Well, if you all remember, last year, I held a presidential election for FPS, in which everyone voted OOCly for an IC candidate. This year, on December 25th, I plan to do the same. In fact, I'm hoping to expand upon it greatly, perhaps involving debates and the like. My only question is: how interested are the rest of you guys? If nobodies gonna read anything I write, I'd rather not waste the time. But if people actually want to get very involved in how FPS will be run for a year after the election...well, any chance to do some RP, and political gaming, I'll take. Anyways, I just thought I'd see who out there would be interested. If not, I can just write up some short briefs describing parties and their candidates, and then do a week and a half long single easy poll for the election. But if ya'll are interested, I'd be more then willing to do much more. |

I notice someone has done what I wanted to do, and that was to choose the last option (I'm FPS!). But I overcame the temptation, and chose one of the other options. So you cannot accuse me, FPS. :ph43r: |

lol. I knew I shoulda just voted "Cheese" and left that option out. As for party supporting: absolutely. The FPS government has long recognized that its leaders can effect the rest of the EP, and thereby allows other governments to give donations. Of course, it should be noted that the FPS government also taxes these donations. So if you want to pump the communist party so full of funds that most banks refuse to even hold their money, out of fear of being robbed, then you can go ahead.

I'm afraid that would be illegal. Sorry, Krech. But, you could give them "Defensive firearms", "armed transport aircraft", and "trained bodyguards." Again, however, such donations will be taxed by the FPS government. ![]() But, on a serious note, no, parties, by law, cannot accept weapons or equitment (of any kind) from...anyone. Their allowed to take cash, and commercial spots. Nothing more. The FPS government is extremely liberal, not stupid. |

Well, then, it seems the majority of people are at least interested so long as it stays...interesting. So lets get started, then! First things first, the list of controversial issues, internal and international. BTW, if you think I've missed any issues (internal or international), please post so. I'd be willing to add more on. After all, just because I'm RP admin doesn't mean I remember everything about RP. Anyways, the list of major issues (of current): Pax Drone Rights: Of current, FPS' largest internal issue revolves around whether or not drones deserve citizenship rights, or even the right to reside in FPS. The debate is fierce, and has long been the cause of rioting. Economical System: FPS has adopted a system of Socio-Capitalism, with 100% tax rates, proportional rebates, and a large welfare/government services system. The system works quite well. However, could not capitalism, socialism, or Marxism work better for FPS' people and economy? International Activity: Since its entrance into the EP community, FPS has been quite wary of entering into conflicts, unless they were directly effected in a negative way. Question is, should FPS be getting in on the side of the moral "good guys" more often, or no? Pax Trade: Currently, FPS gets more then 90% of its raw materials from the Pax (being their only Earth trading partner). Does FPS truly want to be giving that much trade to a nation such as Packilvania...or, for that matter, allow any foreign power to have that much economical influence? FPS Military Funding: Is the military a stain on the peace-loving nature of FPS, or is it a necesary part of FPS' government? Along those lines...should it have a larger budget, or should more of its funding be switched to welfare, education, law and order, and other such more internal directly-affecting life factors? FPS Military-Space Program We've already farked everything else up with weapons, don't tell me were doing it in space too! Street Video-Cameras: Crime in FPS has been nearly stopped since the installment of video-cameras on most street corners. Nonetheless, one must wonder how easily this system could be abused by the government..do we really want to take the risk? Abortion: Though lower crime rates (less rape), a better welfare system (mothers not as afraid of their sons having crappy lives), sexual education in public schools (how to use a condom correctly), and other progressive social policies have destroyed much of the demand for abortions, the demand, and thus the debate, is still there, though not as large. The Death Penalty: The government has allowed the debate to take place. But should it be implemented? Where does payment for crime stop? And is giving the government the right to kill its own citizens a good idea in the first place? Well, thats the issues anyway. Parties/candidates come soon. Again, I'm open to ideas. |

You can't really say that either. I do have perminant colonies on Luna, Mars, a few astroid mines, Jupiter's moons and a refueling station in the Oort Cloud. I'm the only advanced technology civilization without extra-solar colonies. Imatron does not, and may not, have FTL capabilities. I mean look at the anti-technology linching mob around here! Cripes how many times has that linching mob come to my door? (Three times I think.) Besides, I'm only using proven physics now. None of this silly "theroretical physics." Remember you can't just have 300 years advancement plus Scotty in the engine room to dance around physics. Now a million years, yes, but not true 3001 technology. Anyway, if you write it, I may or may not play. May I recommend a Technocracy Party? In Imatron they are a small, but powerful, economic-political force. They pretty much want ubertechs, and want them now. Oh, and I'm going to be taking over the Regional Information Technology Sector soon. Just a fair warning. |

Alright. First party's beliefs. The Centrist Coalition Candidate: President Matthew Terrus Running Mate: Not Yet Announced Pax Drone Rights: Pax Drones are doubtlessly citizens of the Pax Empire. The Pax can conscript them at any time (by force), control their actions, see everything they see, and order them around as the Pax Empire wishes. As such, they cannot be FPS citizens, as one can truly only claim allegiance to one nation. However, Pax drones are not being controlled, or acting as soldiers, all of the time. They deserve to live a good life in the nation within which they were born (or have moved to): Free Pacific States. Should they be allowed to run for office, or hold military positions? Absolutely not. But there should be nothing against them pursuing happiness, wealthyness, and property as an FPS civilian resident. Economical System: Socio-Capitalism has worked for FPS since its implementation several years ago. Combined, the systems of capitalism and socialism have allowed those willing to work hard for their society to acheive greater economic status, whilst simultaneously providing basic amenities for the welfare of those unwilling or unable to work hard for their society, or merely unfortunate in their economic system. Overall, it has built up an economy declared "frightening" by the UN without having to disenfranchise any portion of the population. International Activity: Free Pacific States is in no way more ethical or intelligent then any other nation or group. To claim otherwise would be elitist, at the least, fascist that most. We are not the world's policemen. Outside of the EPTO, we have no right nor need to involve ourselves in the affairs of other nations, and thus should refrain from doing so. Pax Trade: Pax Trade results in the protection of the FPS enviroment through the lack of mining in FPS, the destructio of dangerous and dirty low-paying mining jobs, the creation of more, better, higher-paying jobs in manufacturing and raw material refinement, the creation of manufactured goods and refined raw materials which can be sold at low prices due to the low prices at which they were bought (not due to cheap labor), and the subsequent use of the money gained from those sales to buy more raw materials, provide more jobs, and fund the FPS government itself. In every way: economic, social, enviromental, and government, the system benefits FPS. Especially since we are the only ones who receive Pax Raw Materials. Undeniably, the Pax have commited atrocious acts in the past. However, their recent actions--especially the protection of the new Dovakhanese government--show that these atrocious acts in the past are just that: in the past. Let us not judge the Pax for what Father did, but merely for what Tlant has done..which is very little in comparison. FPS Military Funding: A strong military is a fundamental requirement of a strong nation...regardless of its other policies. But too strong a military can also be a problem. Our best hope here is to find a middle ground, to supply the military with enough funding that it can be of the best in the EP, but not with so much funding that its wrath must be feared. FPS Military-Space Program: To not develop a defense against enemy space vessels would be ignorant and stupid, and only result in the destruction of everyhing we have worked so hard to acheive from orbit. At the same time, however, we do not need to add to the growingly hostile nature of space. Thus, we will create merely a small defense Military-Space Force...enough to defend ourselves, but nothing more. Street Video-Cameras: Fact is, security cameras help fight crime, and, as they are placed only in public places, do not at all violate people's privacy. Their not a problem here, and no need to find a soloution. Abortion: Abortion is not the issue here, the issue is how to stop people from needing to get abortion. A better adoption system, sex ed, a better trained police force...there is no need to take a stance on this issue. Let us merely make the issue dissapear. The Death Penalty: If they die, its over. Lets make them serve their time for what they've done in a place much worse then a cemetary. The Death Penalty is a waste of money and government time...just send them away for life! |

Number One Drone
|
FPS Conservative Reform Party Candidate: Henrik Kroidrik Running-Mate: Not Announced Pax Drone Rights: Fact is, Drones are at the complete mercy of the Hive, which is controlled by the Pax Government. They are trained for combat, and readily able to become combatents in any situation. Their personal beliefs still exist, but only at the mercy of the hive...if the hive wants, it can override their minds completly, and totally control their bodies. We need to admit that their not civilians, not just residents. Their off-duty military personel. And having millions of off-duty military personel in our nation is just a bad idea. It results in a problem...the ability of the Pax to turn a large portion of our populace against us suddenly...a problem that needs to be solved. And there is only one way to solve it: send the drones home. Economical System: Hey, Socio-Capitalism has worked thus far. If its not broken, don't fix it. International Activity: Terrus has mixed up being cool headed and being pacifist. No, we're not the worlds policemen, and no, we don't always have the position of moral superiority. But neither does any other nation. We need to step out, protect what may be our future interests, and protect other nations from those countries believing themselves to be the police. Let us not allow the atrocious tragedies that have struck the EP in recent years to continue. No more slaughters, no more deaths. A great man once said that "For evil to succede, good man simply must stand by and do nothing." Let us not stand by and do nothing. Let us act! Pax Trade: If we place tariffs on it, we will loose some profit. However, should the Pax cut us off at any time currently, FPS will enter into a complete economic depression...save massive action by the government. Massive action which will require great amounts of money. Great amounts of money that cannot be taken from regular taxes. Let us tariff the trade, and save up the money for a rainy day. We'll still be profiting, as will they...we'll simply be doing so with a look towards the future as well as the present. FPS Military Funding: Everybody else is increasing funding. If we're to keep up, if we're to continue to hold a place as a superpower not worth invading..we must increase funding as well. If not for offensive actions, then merely for defensive actions. We need a military, and a strong one at that, if we are to survive. FPS Military-Space Program: The best defense is a capable offense. Lets be realistic. Space is the new ocean, the new air. The new battleground. To ignore it would be equal to ignoring the innovation of the tank. If we are to survive, we must not only develop a defensive space force, but an offensive one as well. It is our best hope to remain a respected and feared superpower, our best hope for survival. Street Video-Cameras: Again, lets be realistic. Video-Cameras cost a crapload, make many people uncomfortable, and truly don't accomplish much in the way of law enforcement. Our progressive social reforms and large, well-funded police force have already dealth with that problems. Lets not waste our money, manpower, or risk slipping down the slippery slope for something as useless as video-cameras on the street. Abortion: Abortion is a local problem, and thus should be dealt with locally. Let state and city governments make their decisions on this matter..leave the Federated Alliance out of it. The Death Penalty: Same as above. Its up to the states and cities, not us. |

|
Capitalist-Libertarian Union Candidate: Fred Duffey Running Mate: Not Yet Chosen Pax Drone Rights: Tlant's rebellion prooves that being in the hive is not the same as being a Pax soldier. It merely makes one more suscesptible to Pax propoganda (as there are more ways for them to receive it). Being a Hive Drone, thus, is not the same as being a Pax Drone, or a Pax Combatent. It merely means that a person is closer to his or her brethren. In the past, the Pax have attacked only those who have provoked them (excepting Father's final military orders before his capitulation of power). If we don't attack them, they won't be inclined to attack us, or turn the above mentioned drones within FPS against the FPS government. Together, these two points lead to the conclusion that joining the hive is like getting a piercing...it is the choice of an individual. The government should take no stance on it, have no punishments or rewards for it, and should, entirely, stay out of the situation. Economical System: Socio-Capitalism works, yes. But only barely. The massive buerocracy of our current system has lead to wide-scale corruption, violation of civil rights, and general inneficiency. Yes, the system provides homes and food for the poor. But these people are poor only because they will not take a lower level job. If the government were to withdraw its support, these people would get jobs, and be able to support themselves. Ultimately, they would be able to gain a better place in society, whereas currently, they are stuck at the bottom, constrained by their own lazyness. Let charity help those who can't help themselves, and let requirement help those who won't. What we need is a total and complete free-market economy. With it, our people will be able to succede based on their ability to work hard, our abused, tyrannical, omnipresent government will be able to be cut back upon, and furthermore our nation as a whole will benefit from further freedom. Freedom, friends, is just around the corner. Lets turn and find it. International Activity: If the people wish to make economical deals, trade, and visit other nations..they may do so. And if others wish to visit FPS...same thing. But FPS has no right to judge other nations, nor their actions, nor does FPS have the responsibility or right to take action based on that judgement. If everyone deals with their own problems, helping others only peacefully, the world will become a much better place then if we try to help others with machine guns. Pax Trade: Whys the government taking so much interest in this? Its a commercial trade...let the commercial sector deal with it. FPS Military Funding: Frankly, we need a defense. And with the severe cutback on government spending elsewhere, we can more then afford to put a few more percent worth of taxdollars into protecting our nation. After all, a 10% tax rate or so wouldn't be so bad...and we can easily fund the military, as well as the rest of the government, with such a rate. FPS Military-Space Program: See above statement. Street Video-Cameras: Not only is this a violation of privacy, and an opening for a tyranical government to take form, it is also an opening for general corruption. Relax weapons laws, and people will be ready to defend themselves. Where they can't do so, the police will easily be able to pick up the slack...vide cameras aren't even needed! Why risk it? Abortion: Your body, your choice. Who am I to choose? The Death Penalty: Giving the government the ability to kill its own citizens is generally just a bad idea, an idea that could too easily lead to corruption. Its worse to spend 50 years in prison anyway...why risk it? |

The Communal Isolationist Front Candidate: Tyrone Wetherby Running Mate: Not Yet Announced Pax Drone Rights: The Hive is the ultimate tool of the Bourgeois in their wish to control the proleteriat. Members of the Hive have no rights, no freedom...they are forced to slave at the will of the few who benefit. But the ability of Tlant and his fellow aristocrats to control and influence the minds of those in the Hive allows them to attract more members through coercion, and keep the current members from rebelling through direct control. If we are to have equality and freedom, we must first remove this plague which haunts our nation. Drones have lost all that they have...they are mere puppets of the Bourgeois, and we cannot allow them to influence our nation. Economical System: If the people of Free Pacific States are to be free and equal, they must come to accept the system of communism, promote it, and use it. It is the only way that, as a people, we will be prosperous and simultaneously moral. International Activity: The only way communism will work is if the entire East Pacific agrees to accept this system. In order to further this goal, we must do all we can to support our communist allies, and to slowly (or if necesary, quickly) overthrow the corrupt governments of capitalist EP nations. Pax Trade: The Pax have shown their position towards communism in the recent Dovakhan incident. Let us not indulge these capitalist sympathizers. FPS Military Funding: At the outset, military funding must be increased in order to protect our nation against the wrath of the Bourgeois who will no doubt attempt to retake it in the form of war. In time, however, the military will come to be disbanded, and once done, we will be able to embrace peacefullness and tranquility at its best. FPS Military-Space Program: So long as capitalist nations such as East Malyasia and imperialists such as the Pax continue to invest in space technology, we must meet their investments, in order to protect our people against attack by spaceborn enemies. Street Video-Cameras: If one is doing nothing wrong, he or she need not worry about video cameras. They are there to stop criminals, nothing more...we are all comrades, we need not worry about anything more. Abortion: Once the people are confident that their children will live good lives, without interference by the aristocracy, abortion will no longer be an issue. The Death Penalty: Those that have commited crime against our society do not deserve to live in it. Let us cast them out as they cast out their victims! |
