Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Parliament debates sub-contracting rights As select committee hearing with Nivogaleese companies 'St. Luther Arms Factory' and 'Heckler & Koch' gets underway, a special session of the Dannistian Central Parliament has started. The MPs are debating on whether the Free Pacific States corporation, General Dynamics, should be allowed to sub-contract the Carrier and Infantry Vehicle projects to the Nivogaleese. This is despite the fact that Dannistrian Corporate law does not allow sub-contracting unless it was agreed in the original contract, which in the case of General Dynamics it was not. GD will have to either withdraw the sub-contracting proposal and work as the sole contractor or officially renege from the contract, in which case the contract will be retendered. The Government hopes that Parliament will side with them and accept the latter proposal, however the first 2 rounds of voting so far has yielded results favouring the former. In the first round the votes were 44 Ayes to 246 Noes against sub-contracting to Nivogal, with 10 Abstentions. The second round, with some amendments regarding the Nivogaleese position, yielded a 46 Ayes to 250 Noes and 4 Abstentions, further polarising the Parliamentary view. The Economy and Trade Minister, Yan'id Ol'lu, condemned the backbenchers and opposition parties for voting against the proposals, claiming it was "A set back to wider international relationships and trade." However, the opposition leader, Kil'leesi Mor'nith, still wearing head bandages covering injuries caused by his scuffle in the recent anti-rearmament riots, praised Parliament for standing up to the Government and not simply falling into line like "Suicidal lemmings". Mr. Mon'nith claimed that "...allowing any corporation to strong arm deals and modify contracts to what suits them is unacceptable and must be discouraged at every turn." Speaking further, he said that "A deal is a deal and you do not simply change it at the last minute just because you don't like it! If you are really unhappy you should end the contract in the way set out by the law and rebid for a new one. Details like this should've been set out at the negotiation stage. Enough said!" Protests against rearmament have continued as the Defence Select Committee discusses further details. In one incident a group of youths burnt FPS and Nivogal flags in central square in Nordu Dannistra City and started shouting racist chants against both. In another incident outside Ban'thulu Na Hotel where the GD delegation is staying a security alert caused the hotels evacuation as a suspicious package was found on the floor reserved by the GD delegates for use in a celebritory party. The package contained a dead droprat and a note saying the next package will "not be so pleasent". East Dannistaan Police Force and the Central Dannistaan Constabulary are investigating the incidents and security patrols have been increased. Fridge Owl sightings in Kitewood City Fridge owls may have been sighted for the first time in Dannistaan. Groups of bird spotters reported that the Otus refrigeratus may have been setting up nests in fridges in the more affluent parts of Kitewood City, in West Dannistaan. Anecdotal evidence suggests increasing numbers appearing in the western parts of the island. So far, scientists are baffled at the appearence of the species, which so far do not have the range to reach Dannistaan. It is suggested that some have been imported illegally. Fridge Owls are a Class 1 pest, in the same category as the Dannistrian Droprat and the district council has warned that anyone found possessing fridge owls will be liable to fines of up to 3000 Ailuropodas and may end up in jail for 3 months. The State Parliament in West Dannistaan is also considering a crackdown on the malevolent birds. Dr. Fron'ly, a expert of avian wildlife from the Kitewood zoo, warns members of the public not to approach any fridge owl they see. He gives the following advice in dealing with fridge owls. "Do not approach them. They may seem friendly at first, but they are easily provoked and can kill humans. If you find one in your refridgerator, please do not panic. Call the local police station or the council pest control line on 01-88889999. In an emergency dial 999 and ask for the police. If there is an item that you must get out of the fridge as a matter of urgency, such as medicine, fridge owls can be enticed out of the fridge with scraps of bread or meat. Otherwise, it is possible to stun them by hitting them hard with a stick. However we do not recommend these methods and still believe the best thing to do is to call for emergency." |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Pump prices fall after oil discovery Prices of petrol has fallen by on average 20%, from #2.10 Ailuropodas ($2.79) per gallon to #1.68 Ailuropodas ($2.23) per gallon, after the discovery of a large deep level oil reserve near the town of J't B'lk. It is estimated that the amount of oil in the reserve is in the billions of barrels range and not the millions as previously thought. The oil reserve is currently under joint ownership of the Dannistrian Central Government and Dannistaan Energy Systems Limited (DES Ltd). However the Government is in the process of tendering out the reserves to a private company, as per it's current Neoliberal policies. The opposition have criticised the move, saying that the oil field should remain in Government ownership. The Communists and Nationalist parties have also condemned the move, indicating that they both will fight moves to privatise the fields. Environmentalists have criticised the entire Parliament for even contemplating using the oil. "Do the MPs not realise the amount of CO2 that would be released if we started pumping and using the oil?" said Had'iir Hii'ren-Green from Greenpeace Dannistaan. "The damage we cause now from the use of the oil will come back to bite us in the future." Religious extremist camp shutdown Police have shutdown a camp belonging to a group of Hal'vonist extremist fanatics. A spokesperson for West Dannistaan Police Force said that the inhabitants of the camp had been causing problems for tourists and residents in nearby villages. "We will not tolerate racism or overt intolerance displayed by the 'Sons of Hal'vo'". The leader of the camp, the self-styled First Lord Fon'dar of Port Morecombe, condemned the move, saying that the people had a right to worship Hal'vo as they see fit. "We will fight the police action in the courts. May Hal'vo forgive them for their desecration!" Public opinion had been mixed. Some supporting the police move and saying that the closure of the camp was a long time coming. Others feel the police was too heavy handed and felt that even if it was extremists being shutdown, they still had the right of free speech. MPs will debate the legality of the group in the next few days. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Parliament debates on EPTO membership Parliament today is debating on whether an application should be made to join the East Pacific Treaty Organisation or EPTO. The move would end approximately 30 years of neutrality in dealing with East Pacific international affairs. Critics warn that joining the EPTO at this stage while the armed forces are only just being rebuilt is political and military madness and would result in a "tremendous loss of life" if it went ahead. Supporters claim the move would make Dannistaan stronger and help with it's international image, which is seen as staid and internally uncohesive. The opposition leader, Kil'leesi Mor'nith, vehemently disagrees. "If another EPTO member is attacked and we are already doing business with that country, it could look very awkward for us. Also, if the EPTO requests us to give military aid, it will be a massive problem as our armed forces would not be able to cope right now. Maybe in a few years time but not now." Discussions are continuing and a communique will be sent to the EPTO indicating potential interest later. East Pacific Non-Alinged Movement to be considered Oponents to EPTO membership are pushing for the set up of a EP Non-Aligned Movement similar to the international Non-Aligned Movement (http://www.nam.gov.za/) already in existance. The MPs proposing the move say that it will give a chance for totally neutral nations to band their resources together to protect themselves without having to rely on joining a major power bloc such as the EPTO, Pax Hive or the NSU. Critics call the plans a useless folly that would be of no relevence. It is not known how much level of support exists in the Central Parliament for such an organisation to be created. Separatist group emerges as fear over East Dannistaan sovereignty continues Concerns over a separatist group calling themselves "Lobo'nos Riu'en Dannistra (Free East Dannistaan)" are increasing after armed men and women suspected of belonging to the organisation raided a housing estate on the outskirts of Port Ourad city. The group made off with a four figure sum of money from terrified residents. They later issued a statement saying that they wished for East Dannistaan to seperate from the rest of the Confederacy of Dannistaan. The Central Parliaments reply was that East Dannistaan was free to secede from the Confederacy, but only through a referendum held by the East Dannistrian State Government and which is open and fair to all, not through violence and/or intimidation. The LRD/FED group later posted a further rebuttal saying that if the Central Parliament did not allow secession on its terms it would start to attack foreign interests, including tourist resorts and foreign companies. Police are now investigating those threats. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories EPTO membership proposals take a step back Proposals to join EPTO have taken a blow after the Communist Party of Dannistaan withdrew support and stated their intentions to vote against membership of the military alliance. Their reasons for doing so are unclear but there is some indication that the change in position is due to an internal power struggle within the party. Some political commentators are speculating that Tan'nis Fe'aal, the current leader of the CPD, might be forced out by the more charismatic Mary White-Nai'vissol, the young upstart of Dannistrian far left politics. The CPD only control 15 seats in the Tiv'olas As'embola but because of the narrow margin between the two sides on the EPTO debate, those 15 seats can make the difference in joining or staying out of the EPTO. Currently the latest vote on the EPTO indicates the Parliament is against joining the EPTO with 160 Noes to 130 Ayes and 10 Abstentions. Fridge owl population on the increase Fridge owls have now been sighted in South West Dannistaan. The population of Otus refrigeratus appears to be spreading. The State Governments of West and South Dannistaan have now ordered extra equipment and personnel in from the USA and UK to try and eradicate the spread of the species now rather than wait until it becomes more prevalent. The Central Government has also put aside funds to allow the State Governments to tackle the problem in case it gets worse. However in an interview with the BBC in the "Dannistaan Today" programme, the First Minister of the state Government of South Dannistaan assured citizens that the Fridge owls are being kept under control. In related news, a man was arrested in Kitewood City in West Dannistaan for importing Fridge owls into the country and selling them as pets on the black market. He will be sentenced later in the new year. A report on his activities has been sent to the Prosecuter General. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories "Dannistrian Madness Fever" hits Lon'ima Village An outbreak of "Dannistrian Madness Fever" has hit a village in Northeast Dannistaan. The village of Lon'ima is located 80 miles northeast of Nordu Dannistra City. The disease is fatal unless cured quickly. The North Dannistaan State Government has ordered for the village to be quarantined and all roads leading to and from the village to be closed. The State Government has also advised residents not to panic. "Although fatal, the disease is not highly contagious. You can only get it from prolonged close contact with an infected person in dirty conditions and during the cold weather," said Dr. Orw'ahll, "My best advice to those concerned is to keep warm and wash your hands after going to the toilet. And segregate any member of the family who is unwell with any symptoms from everyone else." The disease derives its name from its infamous symptoms, mainly that patients suffer from a high temperature and start to hullucinate. It is caused by a virus which disrupts the brain from being able to function properly and as a result those who are infected show signs that they are mentally ill, such as being unable to speak or speaking gibberish or being unable to perform simple actions without causing self-harm or harm to others. It is curable using simple anti-virals, but many die from the disease because of the inaccessability to healthcare or because they use unreliable home remedies instead. The Dannistrian Tourist Office has advised that any foreignors in North Dannistaan stay away from the northeast corner of the island until further notice, as foreignors are more susceptible to the virus than native Dannistrians. Worried friends and relatives can call the North Dannistrian Government on 09-58855600. General advice on anti-viral treatments can be given from any local doctor or hospital or from the Dannistrian National Health Service on 11-59592136. Travel advice can be obtained from the Dannistrian Tourist Office on 88-88999988. Dannistaan Robotics Ltd. unveil new "Super Armored Core Mech" An East Dannistaan based company involved in the development of military robotics has unveiled a new model of Armored Core Mech which is designed to be more capable than previous models. The test prototype, named "Hal'vor-1", has been designed to take a high capacity compact fusion generator as it's powersource and the hope is that this design will eventually replace the diesel and gas turbine engines currently being used in the current generation of ACs. It is also the first AC to come equiped with an autonomous Artificial Intelligence system, that automatically control itself if the pilot is incapacitated or programmed to by the pilot via a remote controller handset. The team behind its development claim it will revolutionise AC design and allow the mechs to fight further from supporting bases and for longer. Dannistaan Robotics Ltd., the company behind the new mech, also claim the AI system will remove human error from tactical decisions. Critics though point out that in testing, the generator made the AC more detectable on IR scans and the AI systems performance was sketchy at best. Nevertheless, the company sees it as a huge step forward and the military is showing interest in the prototype. Field testing is due to commence early in the new year. To'kino loses Dannistrian Rally Championship by narrow margin Do'van To'kino, 3 times Dannistrian Rally Champion, has lost his title to the young newcomer and rival Johnathon Forr'sith, who pipped Do'van to the championship lead by 2 points. To'kino was doing well in the last event of the year held in the military Nordu Camp training grounds in North Dannistaan, holding the lead by 2 whole minutes in the first day of the rally. But on the second day technical trouble meant he was forced to pull out and by the third day he had lost the lead to Forr'sith by 1 and a half minutes. The youngster and his Dannistaan Automotive X55R proving to be too fast for the veteren. There was some drama on Special Stage 14 when the Subaru Impreza of Fora'dale Simpson-Wah'nalla crashed into an embankment halfway into the stage, causing it to be cancelled. Officials report that Wah'nalla and his co-driver are recovering in hospital. But this did not detract much from the end of season party, where Johnathon Forr'sith was held as the new hero of local rallying. It is hoped he will move on to the World Rally Championship next year. BREAKING NEWS: Royal Dannistrian Army cadet in hospital after unspecified medical problem An army cadet has been admitted to hospital after an unknown medical problem. He was on an exchange program in 1 Infinite Loop when the incident happened. A specialist doctor from East Dannistaan has been dispatched. The cadet has not been named. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories "Dannistrian Madness Fever" outbreak spreads The outbreak of the disease known as "Dannistrian Madness Fever" has spread to two other villages. The authorities in the village of Som’musu Na 25 miles southeast of Nordu Dannistra City have confirmed its first case of DMF. The village of Carth'diis has also reported a suspected case of DMF. The councils responsible for the areas have widened the quarantine area. The Central Government has advised that anyone entering and leaving Dannistaan will now be subject to health checks and screening to prevent the spread of the virus to other parts of the East Pacific. The North Dannistrian State Government has ordered the sealing off of the immediate area surrounding the Pak'itaan Jungle National Park, where all the outbreaks seem to be located in. They have also brought in marksmen to shoot animals in a bid to prevent them spreading the virus further. The State Government has urged its citizens not to panic and reminded them that simple cheap anti-virals can cure the disease if spotted quickly enough. This has triggered panic buying of off-the-shelf anti-viral medicines. The most effective version, "VirGon", has been sold out in many Pharmacies. The Government is trying to license out the production of the drug so it may replenish its stocks quickly. The State Governments appeals for calm has seemingly fallen on deaf ears as panicked citizens are leaving Nordu Dannistra City in their thousands. The State Government warns that this action will only result in the disease spreading further and has repeated its appeals for calm. Embassy staff, which are mostly based in Nordu Dannistra City, have been advised to either stay put or restrict their travels to prevent the spread of the virus. Some councils have started issuing out facemasks to people living in the remote villages to prevent further outbreaks of DMF. The State Government has also claimed that compared to the last outbreak, which happened around the same time last year, this years outbreak was being kept under control. Some people citizens are unconvinced. "That is what they told us last year, before it went completely out of control!" said one worried businessman as he left the city. Bomb Scare on Embassy Row, Nordu Dannistra City A bomb alert was caused by a suspicious vehicle, which was left about two days ago on a road that runs between the FPS and Nivogaleese embassies on Embassy Row, in the north end of Nordu Dannistra City. The road as well as a large area was cordoned off as bomb disposal teams moved in to check a small white van, which was found to be containing 200lbs of explosives and a detonator. The road closures exacerbated the problem of congestion caused by people living the city to avoid the Dannistrian Madness Fever outbreaks. Earlier, coded warnings had been given via the telephone to a police station in North Dannistaan. It made references to Embassy Row but not to any specific location. North Dannistaan Police Force is now investigating the incident and a report will be sent to the Prosecutor General. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Minutes silence to be held at midnight Preparations have been completed for the annual Christmas Eve midnight silence, which takes place at the Central Hal'vonist Temple in Dannistra Onn. The silence is observed by Dannistrians the world over to mark the official end of the 1982 Dannistrian Civil War, which claimed around 2.34 million lives. The silence is to commemorate the lives of all the soldiers and civilians lost during the war. After the silence it is planed that a candle lit vigil for the war dead will be held in Queen Victoria Square in the centre of Dannistra Onn, at the Central Hal'vonist temple and in front of Central Parliament Hall. Further ceremonies will be taking place on New Years Day, when the fighting in Dannistaan actually ended. Outbreak of Dannistrian Madness Fever contained The North Dannistaan State Government has reported that there has been no further outbreaks of Dannistrian Madness Fever since yesterday, citing that its swift reactions have prevented further spread of the virus. Quarantine measures are still in place in the affected areas and will remain in place until at least early into the new year. So far, 3 deaths have been directly caused by the virus and another 36 infected with DMF are in hospital where it is reported that they are in a stable condition. The State Government points out that during the same period last year the virus spread to an area eventually encompassing northeast, central east and central Dannistaan. The lack of any further cases, they say, is testament to the hygiene program put in place quickly after the first reported case of DMF. Critics warn though that the virus is known for constantly mutating and that an outbreak may still occur later. The anti-viral drug "VirGon", used to treat DMF, is now being produced by 4 manufacturers after the Government licensed out manufacturing rights of the drug to them. It is welcome news to many pharmacists who are unable to supply the drug in the required numbers. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Dannistaan awaits Christmas message Citizens are awaiting the broadcast of the Queens Christmas message in Dannistaan. The Royal Christmas message, which has been broadcast since 1932, is to be broadcast at 3pm GMT to everyone in Dannistaan. The traditional Governors-General message will also be broadcast live 30 minutes after the Queens message as usual. EPTO Membership proposals defeated Final voting on the motion to submit a membership proposal has been defeated by 176 Noes to 115 Ayes with 9 Abstentions. Foreign Minister Tr'valis No'oonsoko called the result "disappointing". He claimed that the move now damaged hopes of making the Confederacy seem more like a world player and made the country look weak and divided. Opposition leader Kil'leesi Mor'nith however criticises the Governments attempts to join the EPTO and says that the Parliament voting against proposals to join is another victory against the Government. "The current administrations attempts to join to the EPTO are irresponsible and will put us in more danger than ever before if they went ahead." Despite this, some state Governments may still choose to join the EPTO seperately rather than as part of the Confederacy. It is now looking more likely that the EPNAM or EP Non-Aligned Movement may be more favourable to the entire Confederacy. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Retailers report increased sales Retailers in Dannistaan, especially in the south of the country, are reporting increased profits in the post-Christmas sales. This comes as a welcome boost to the economy which slumped recently before Christmas. Some businesses are reporting profits in excess of 30% above normal. The Association of Dannistrian Businesses spokesman, Andy Duth'carron, said it was welcome news. The biggest winner was the Dannistrian department store chain "Dahn'has", which is now expected to report pre-tax profits in excess of 456 million Ailuropodas. Further breakthrough in AC Mech technology A team of East Dannistrian scientists have managed to sucessfully construct a system of AC legs based on a new type of artificial muscle technology the group had developed earlier. The new system means that instead of relying on a complex set of pistons to make an AC mechs move, a set of tendons similar to what humans and animals use to move legs are used instead. The scientists claim that the artificial muscle system will allow the manufacture and maintenance of AC parts to be simplified. Critics warn that the initial manufacture of the AMS parts is overly complex and requires the use of a controversial technology that clones stemcells. Devout Hal'vonists have already condemned the use of the AMS system several times during its development. Talks to resolve enthnic divide break down A conference held in an attempt to bridge the gap between North and East Dannistaan have ended without sucess. The talks were an attempt to deal with the unresolved issues caused by the civil war. However during the three day conferences duration, little was seemingly achieved. The conference was interrupted several times by angry anti-East and anti-North Dannistrian outbursts from members of the audience. In one instance a brawl broke out between two members of the audience over what should be done about the gangs of youths from either side that fight regularly during the night on the border. "Ultimately it will be many years before a soution is reached," stated the chairman of the conference, Don'niar Nit'soolu. |

The underlying message for this year will be about peace and reconciliation. The carnaval is one of the most famous and grandest amongst the Commonwealth Realms and is expected to attract at least half a million vistors from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, to name but a few. The Governor-General is expected to give his address to the carnaval at around 1AM New Years Day and before that the minutes silence to mark the end of fighting from the 1982 civil war. East Dannistaan condemns Nivogalese involvment in defence procurement The Dannistrian Nationalist Party led State Parliament in East Dannistaan has condemned the awarding of the contract to buy infantry firearms from Nivogalese companies. In it's strongest action since the contract was awarded, the East Dannistaan State Parliament has voted 68 to 42 in favour of condemning the Nivogalese and of barring any East Dannistrian citizen from trading with Nivogalese companies. The Central Parliament has in turn condemned the move, stating that it will damage the Confederacy's international image and cause tensions amongst Dannistaan and Nivogal. But First Minister Hannah Kal'lissee of East Dannistaan warns that "I do not do deals with Commie/Socialist scum. Especially those with bad intentions for our great nation!" And finally... A man has been detained in a secure mental hospital after being found living feral with a pack of wolves in North Dannistaan. It is unknown for how long he has been living with the wolves. What is known is that the wolves have seemingly accepted him as part of the pack and treat him as one of their own. Doctors are baffled by the mans behaviour, which is animalistic and he has shown little if any impulse control and a penchant for eating raw meat. Tests are still being conducted on him and social workers are trying to track down any relatives or next of kin. |

Initial reports suggest no problems relating to the main carnaval celebrations. Police forces around the country have repeated advice for all revelers to stay safe and keep belongings with them at all times. "EAT-CAEK" system now online One of the Central Government's flagship projects, the "EAT-CAEK" incidents database has now gone online. The acronym stands for "Electronic Advanced Tactical Centralised Accidents and Emergencies Knowledgebase" and is designed to be a real time central store for information on any emergency and disaster that might affect Dannistaan or the East Pacific as a whole. The database is open to all including foreign nations to browse for everything from symptoms of a pandemic virus to the aid requirements of a country that has suffered a natural disaster. Countries may also submit information which will be vetted by Government officials for accuracy. Work to reopen shipyard begins General Dynamics has been authorised to reopen the old McKays shipyard in Port Morecombe prior to it begining the upgrading and construction of the Nimitz class aircraft carriers. Initial estimates are that it will be early in the new year before the work can begin on the carriers. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Ravens seen in large flocks over East Pacific Large flocks of ravens have been seen acting strangely over many parts of Dannistaan and the East Pacific. It is not known what is causing their swarming behaviour. Some reports say that groups of ravens have been seen flying in a circular pattern, vocalising loudly before flying away else where. In Dannistrian culture, the black bird is seen as a sign of death and destruction and sightings of ravens still cause alarm amongst many, even members of the newer generation. The recent sightings are no exception. Fortune tellers have reported a sharp increase in the number of people contacting them to interpret the meaning of the ravens flocking behaviour. Priests have also reported larger than normal congregations as Dannistrians attempt to seek answers. The birds themselve cause no hazzard currently but authorities warn people to keep calm otherwise it may cause a self-fulfilling prophecy of destruction. Snow causes traffic problems Extreme winter conditions on the higher levels of Mount Dannistaan has caused traffic problems in Central Dannistaan. Tailbacks stretching for 6 miles on the M1 and M23 highways have been reported. Central Dannistaan Constabulary warn of further misery in the upper levels of Mount Dannistaan and are advising all drivers not to travel unless it is a life threatening situation. Public transport has also been affected with bus services to North Dannistaan reduced to hourly instead of half-hourly and trains to the rest of the country are either being cancelled or heavily disrupted. TransCD, the transportation authority for Central Dannistaan, advised commuters to check with the appropriate operator or call the TransCD helpline on 88-22334455. |

The figure for GDP per capita was rated at just under #27,000 Ailuropodas or just under $35,000 USD. This would put Dannistaans economy as being in better shape than previously predicted. However many are warning that the economic slump may eventually happen when people least expect it. ![]() Graph of past few days of GDP per capita. Adverse weather continues to cause problems Gale force winds and blizzards have continued to cause problems with travel in the upper levels of Mount Dannistaan. Attempts to clear the snow from highways are proving futile as the weather continues to worsen. Experts predict it will be either late Tuesday or early Wednesday before the weather clears up. Train services are now being routed through alternative lines with special bus services providing connections between stations. However this is made all the more difficult by snow and ice on the roads. Emergency services are also reporting problems which was illustrated by an accident on Highway M10 which left 23 dead. It involved a tourist coach, an articulated lorry and two private cars. Efforts to help the injured were hampered by the cold conditions on the M10. West Dannistaan Police Force warn it will be until 8AM on Tuesday that the road will be reopened. Elsewhere, heavy sleet showers has descended on lower level parts of North and West Dannistaan, causing flooding in some towns and villages. North and West Dannistaan Police Forces, working with the affected councils, advise people not to travel unless necessary and if in trouble from floodwaters to call 999 and ask for help from the Fire Brigade. The Central Government has received some criticism from the general public over it's late response to the problems. No one from the Central Government was available for comment at this time. Military spending increases approved Ahead of plans to upgrade and acquire new carriers for the navy, purchase new firearms for the army and acquire new fighter jets for the air force, the Central Parliament approved plans to increase the defence budget for this year, with the Royal Dannistrian Navy being the big winners. The navy's "Hail Hal'vo" program to upgrade it's two existing Nimitz class carriers and acquire a new one to complement the two is to go ahead with General Dynamics of the Free Pacific States being the sole contractor. The navy has also unvieled the first of its Type 2000 Battleships (Previously known as the Type NG-BB program). Although called "Battleships" they are only slightly larger than the US Navy's "Arleigh Burke" class destroyers at 520 feet in total length and indeed are based on that classes design. However the Type 2000s carry a lot more firepower and the first of its class, the "HMDS Nan'ar", was launched today at the Kitewood Naval base. The "Nan'ar" will be the first of a group of ten to be launched. |

Reports so far confirm that 10 are dead and 150 more seriously hurt after a mass panic was caused by someone sneezing at the gangway leading off the boat. Police say that eyewitness accounts after that point were contradictory but have said the likely cause was that someone shouted that the flu was present and the stampeding proceeded from there. Opposition parties in the South Dannistaan State Parliament have criticised the heavy handed approach used by the police and the State Governments lack of advice which lead to misunderstandings and unecessary distress. Melting snow causes further travel chaos and flooding Snow from the adverse weather a few days ago is starting to melt, causing further travel problems in the upper levels of Dannistaan. Although snow has stopped falling, melting snow drifts are causing flooding, which in turn is causing landslips in some areas and damage to plantations and farms. The M8 Highway between the towns of Muirwood and Ann'try, was hit earlier this morning, when a landslip sent several tons of rocks and mud onto the road, splitting the tarmac and overturning an articulated lorry and a bus, causing 26 injuires. Police are once again advising against travel unless absolutely necessary. Fire Brigade rescue teams are being called in to help people escape from flooded areas and redirect waters into suitable flow channels. Local Councilors have advised that further areas may have to be evacuated if the flooding continues. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Nekomimi Flu spreads to Dannistaan Nekomimi Flu has gained its first victim on Dannistaan as An'phas Jenkins, aged 73, died from complications arising from the administering of treatment, rather than the actual flu itself. However his death marks the first death to be caused directly by Nekomimi Flu on Dannistrian soil. The other 9 members of Mr. Jenkins family are in critical but stable condition. Deaths caused by rioting and other panic induced incidents caused by the outbreaks of Nekomimi Flu in the East Pacific have not abated, however. Latest figures indicate that over 300 people have been killed in riots and stampeding with under 3000 injured from those incidents. The latest incident involved a stampede at a train station in Nordu Dannistra City. According to Police, the stampede was caused when a rumour was spread that the army was to initiate Operation Quickfade, the Governments emergency plan, starting with Nordu Dannistra City. This caused many people to attempt to flee. Police confirmed no decision had been made to initiate the operation in Nordu Dannistra City and are now attempting to track down the person who first spread the rumour. Anti-nekomimi attacks have also increased with 26 incidents alone reported in West Dannistaan. Police are warning any more racist attacks will be punished severely. Elsewhere businesses have reported slow trading as people stay at home to avoid the virus. The Health Ministry is giving out advice through its website and a freephone hotline on 02-55566888. Dannistrian Madness Fever outbreak detected Related to the Nekomimi Flu outbreak, the number of Dannistrian Madness Fever cases has increased 10 fold. 50 cases of DMF have been reported in the areas between North and West Dannistaan. Medical experts blame the panic caused by Nekomimi Flu for the increasing number of DMF cases. "In the midst of the flu epidemic, people seem to have forgotten that we are still in the midst of DMF season," said one doctor who wished to remain anonymous. Many fear that the focus on Nekomimi Flu has meant that people have forgotten about the dangers of DMF and numbers are expected to rise. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Nekomimi flu outbreak under control, claim health officials The outbreak of Nekomimi Flu is "under control", claim health officials in West Dannistaan. Currently confirmed cases of the virus stand at 32 confirmed cases with another 45 suspected, half of those eventually testing negative since this report was prepared. The Health Ministry of the Central Government advises everyone to remain calm and wear face or gas masks when outside. "Dispose or disinfect them carefully when you have finished using them and avoid touching the outer surface. Wash hands throughly after going to the toilet and after being outside and cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing and sneezing," adivised the Chief Medical Officer. He also stated that the Government will be putting up disinfectant points in public areas that will dispense alcoholic gel. Rioting and stampedes caused by virus panics have now killed 411 and injured another 3154. Police have warned that causing panic by false alarms and misinformation will result in a fine and prosecution for causing breech of the peace and public alarm and disorder. Police are still also investigating the circumstances behind the stampede at Far'sii Road Railway Station in Nordu Dannistra City, although they have announced the arrest of two men and one woman in connection with the incident. Dannistrian Madness Fever cases increase In the wake of the Nekomimi Flu outbreak, cases of Dannistrian Madness Fever have increased to 78 confirmed cases. Medical experts speculate that large numbers of people fleeing areas suspected of having Nekomimi Flu may be ending up in areas where Dannistrian Madness Fever or DMF may be present. Doctors have warned that there DMF is still prevalent at this current time and the general public should be aware that the disease has not gone away yet. Symptoms are similar to a stroke or mental illness and are accompanied by a high temperature and hallucinations. It is as contagious as the Nekomimi Flu and can be lethal if left untreated. Experts are worried that the Nekomimi Flu and DMF might combine to create a lethal "Supervirus" that could cause further problems. Antivirals selling out in many cities Many pharmacies in Dannistaan are reporting low stocks of the commercial derivative of the antiviral "VirGon". This has been caused by panic buying of the drug as people stockpile supplies for personal use. The Dannistrian Pharmaceuticals Association (DPA) warned against panic buying, saying that there is enough supplies of VirGon for those who need it and have advised against stockpiling, as it would lead to future strains gaining immunity against the drug as well as denying supplies to others who need it most. As a treatment for Nekomimi Flu, doctors and the DPA have warned that the dose needed to treat Nekomimi Flu are far higher than what the tablets could supply and required supervision in a hospital. "The tablets only give around 15cc's of the active antiviral agents, the dose given in the hospitals is about 50cc's. Simply taking a larger number of 'VirGon' tablets will not help and simply lead to a fatal overdose as the tablets contain other agents that may be harmful in large quantities, while the hospital syringe form of 'VirGon' is far purer," said Dr. Man'wehll, consultant at the Duke of Wellington Hospital near the town of Hal'vo Hill. The Doctors comments come as large amounts of the syringe administered form of VirGon have appeared on the black market. Some being sold openly on internet sites. The DPA and Health Ministry both condemn the actions of these sellers and warn that some of the antiviral vials being sold are either counterfeits or "Rejected Grade" materials that were stolen from the factories manufacturing the drug. In some cases the vials contained little more except water mixed with green food colouring. eBay East Pacific alone has seen a sharp rise in the number of liquid VirGon vials on its site, some going for over #400 Ailurapodas or around $520 USD. The State Governments of North and West Dannistaan have criticised eBay EP for not doing more to block the sale of fraudulant VirGon stocks. eBay denies the accusation and have started blocking some VirGon auctions in response. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Container ship explodes in North Dannistrian Sea A container ship registered to "Speed-Nine Freight Inc." has suffered a catastrophic accident involving its cargo in the North Dannistrian Sea. Police have reported that the "Ratsa'tnep", registered in Port Morecombe, had crashed into some rocks in the treacherous stretch of water. This possibly set off a chain reaction that resulted in the cargo of explosives being set off. Marine Safety experts have reiterated calls for all ships to use lights and horns in foggy conditions. Police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident but suspect human error. No survivors are reported. Nekomimi Flu outbreak holds stable but Dannistrian Madness Fever cases worsen The number of Nekomimi Flu cases has held steady at 32 confirmed cases. The 45 suspected cases have tested negative. However cases of Dannistrian Madness Fever has increased to 99 confirmed cases. Medical experts blame the increasing number of DMF cases on ignorance and lack of attention on the DMF virus. Racist attacks on nekomimi have now dropped off but the number of people killed in panic related violence in 564 killed and 3266 injured. Police are now considering deploying Armored Core mechs to crack down on the continuing violence. Civil Rights groups have condemned the proposals. Central Government officials were unavailable for comment. Constitutional reforms debated in Central Parliament The Central Parliament of Dannistaan is currently debating reforms that could see large changes made to the Dannistrian Constitution. The biggest and most contentious change is the conversion of the Confederacy of Dannistaan from a Confederacy of five sovereign states to a single Federal nation consisting of five national states. This would mean that Dannistaan would be a Confederacy in name only and would be ruled as one nation for the first time in several thousand years. The states would still have the right to secede under the new constitution, but they would lose, amongst other things, the ability to hold foreign relations outside of the Confederacy and to pass legislation independant of the Central Government unless it has devolved powers to do so. Supporters claim that the constitutional reforms have long been needed and that Dannistaan is run de facto as a single nation despite what the current constitution says. Critics, however, warn that this is a centralisation of power that will lead to abuse by the Central Government and must be fought at every stage. Under the existing constitution, unlike the USA, amendments cannot be made to the constitution. Instead a completely new one has to be drafted and accepted by a unianimous vote of acceptance by the Central and State Parliaments. This will be very hard to achieve dispute the widespread support in Parliament. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories BREAKING NEWS: Central Parliament rejects first draft of new Constitution MPs in the Central Parliament of Dannistaan have rejected the first draft of a new constitution. The move was expected. However what was not expected was the large number of Backbench Government MPs who voted against the measures. In total 255 MPs voted against the first draft, with only 39 voting for the draft and 6 abstentions. The move is seen as a blow to the ruling Socialist Democrats, who were hoping to implement the new constitution, which includes changes to the structure of the Confederacy. The Central Government has indicated its disappointment and hope to have a second draft ready to submit to the Parliamentary Constitution Select Committee, where it will then be voted on by the entire Central Parliament. More details will be placed here as they are known. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories BREAKING NEWS: Central Government in trouble over Nekomimi Flu and Constitutional reforms Prime Minister P'aanil F'orrlason-Smith's administration is in jeopardy after MPs have rejected a set of proposed amendments to the first draft of the new constitution by 239 votes to 49 with 12 abstentions. Political experts and backbenchers are now questioning the Prime Minister's ability to lead the Government after such a resounding defeat. Many are also questioning the appropriateness of the reforms given the current situation with the Nekomimi flu. Some accuse the Government of blind opportunism since most of the focus of the general public has been on the flu outbreaks. "This Government's actions are becoming more and more irresponisble by the day," comments Kil'leesi Mor'nith, leader of the Opposition, "Mr. F'orrlason-Smith must realise that this cannot go on. We do not have a Presidential system and he should stop pretending it is and forcing through his personal views, overriding that of others." Mr. Mor'nith continues on to criticise the Governments handling of the flu itself. "Our heavy handed approach has so far only caused further panic to spread amongst the people and for the endemic DMF to spread to those trying to escape the flu. This can only be interpreted as a sign of incompetance on the Government's part." A Government spokeswoman defended the Prime Minister's actions, indicating that "...[we] cannot allow the flu to take over our lives. Things must go on, otherwise the country will slip into a state of anarchy and surely the Conservatives will agree that is not acceptable in any case." She goes on to defend the way the Government has handled the flu crisis, saying that "We as an administration has done all we can. So far we have no vaccine and a more practical is a long way from being developed. May we also remind the opposition that we are a small island nation and as such have fewer resources to simply quarantine outbreaks." However many feel that the current administration is in trouble and may possible collapse over the next few days, leading to snap elections. So far the opinion polls indicate that the Conservatives are leading at 48%, followed by the Socialist Democrats at 35%. Latest Nekomimi Flu and Dannistrian Madness Fever numbers released The number of people with Nekomimi Flu is currently at 34 confirmed cases, an increase of 2 from last week. Doctors are hailing the use of draconian containment measures as the reason for the halt of the rapid spread of the virus. The official number of flu deaths stands at 1 person, who died from complications caused by a VirGon dose rather than the virus directly. However, Dannistrian Madness Fever cases continue to rise at an alarming rate, with 25 deaths and 169 confirmed cases so far from DMF. Further panic stampeding and rioting has been caused by the reports, which has now claimed the lives of 665 people and injured 3667 in total. Police are now preparing to deploy Armored Core mechs in troublespots to try and quell the violence. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Armored Core units deployed to quell violence In a rare show of concensus, the Central Parliament, along with each of the State Parliaments, have voted in favour of authorising the use of Armored Core mech units by 200 votes to 91 with 9 abstentions. The authorisation meant that the state police forces are now able to use the large robots, which can be at least 3 times taller than an average man, to deal with the violence that is plaguing the nation. State Governments in all 5 states have warned that curfews will be implemented if the violence does not abate. Civil Rights groups have expressed disappointment at the Government's position but concede that some force may be needed to avoid total anarachy. Currently the death toll from flu related violence stands at 667 with 3772 injured. Government survives vote of confidence P'aanil F'orrlason-Smith's administration has survived a vote of confidence narrowly by 155 votes to 130 with 15 abstentions. The subsequent confidence votes in the State Parliaments were the Socialist Democrats hold the majority also ended in their favour. The move is a blow for the Opposition Conservatives who were hoping to force a snap election. It is considered even more embarassing when the results show that some of the Conservative MPs admitted voting for the Government. This may be part of a larger rift amongst the Conservative party themselves. The opposition leader, Kil'leesi Mor'nith, refused to comment. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories BREAKING NEWS: 1 Infinite Loop bans VirGon shipments The Government of 1 Infinite Loop has banned VirGon shipments after it was found that the antiviral drug is leathal to nekomimi in Infinite Loop. A report from the ILPHO claims that the drug, when administered to nekomimi, had a 100% fatality rate. It is not known if this is true for humans as well. Medical experts in Dannistaan claim that the results are not surprising. "When you look at how much of the antiviral is needed to have an effect, it is not a surprise. It already has a 50/50 chance of death in humans, so it is not surprising that it would cause such a problem in animal/human hybrids with weakened immune systems". The order to ban shipments did not go down well in East Dannistaan, where the drug is manufactured. Large anti-Loopian protests were held upon the news that VirGon was to be banned by martial law. Effigies of Empress Hitomi Fujiwara were burnt along with Infinite Loop flags. The anger intensified when armed mobs attempted to attack Loopian holidaymakers and immigrants, along with chants of "Death to the Commies!" and "Death to the mimi!!". The First Minister of East Dannistaan, Mar'ril Aien'orr, also leader of the Far Right Dannistrian Nationalist Party, later addressed one of the protest parades. Despite perceived to have moderated her views, she launched a scathing attack on the Loopian Government. "Empress Hitomi's Government has done a great disservice to Dannistaan and it's pharmaceutical industry by making this false allegations! I demand that the ban be lifted, otherwise East Dannistaan will have no option but to place sanctions on Loopian imports and citizens from ever setting foot our great nation ever again!! The Government of Infinite Loop must also move with the times! I ask all East Pacific nations to join us to rid the world of the evils of Far Left politics and help spread a full Democracy to Infinite Loop, which is operating a sham of an elected Diet currently! If this ultimately means wiping Infinite Loop off the map, so be it!" The Central Government has distanced itself from Mrs. Aien'orr's comments, claiming that it is typical "Right wing rhetoric". Socialist Democrat MP and Internal Minister Patrick Winslow claimed that Mrs. Aien'orr's comments verged on race hate, which may have to be investigated. "We in the Central Government in Dannistaan understand why Infinite Loop had to ban VirGon. They are only trying to protect their citizens. If the siutation had been reversed, we would've done the same. Mrs. Aien'orr's comments are extremely unhelpful at this time and will only serve to damaged our relationships with them. I would warn Mrs. Aien'orr right now that if she doesn't stop making these defamatory remarks that we may be have to consider taking actions against her and her party, the DNP. I also believe her remarks are nothing but opportunistic politicial points scoring." |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories BREAKING NEWS: First Minister of East Dannistaan resigns triggering fresh State Elections Mar'ril Aien'orr, First Minister of East Dannistaan has resigned amidst growing pressure regarding her comments during an anti-Loopian protest rally where she called for Infinite Loop to be "wiped off the map" and for making racist comments about nekomimi being "dirty flu carriers". Mrs. Aien'orr lost the confidence of her party, the Dannistrian Nationalist Party, and the State Parliament in a second vote of confidence held yesterday evening at an emergency session of the State Parliament. Her depute, Madam Kelly Minn'ow-Jones, will take over as acting Prime Minister and acting leader of the DNP in East Dannistaan until State Parliament is dissolved and elections held in April. On leaving the First Minister's residence in Sir Michael Square in For'af City, Mrs. Aien'orr apologised for the comments she made, citing that they were made in the "heat of the moment" and may have been "ill-timed". However, she says that she will not apologise for her views on Infinite Loop's ban on VirGon, claiming that she will fight for further liberalisation of the market in the whole of the East Pacific. "Communism is a flawed idea in any form and ultimately must be fought at every opportunity until it is throughly defeated," she said before leaving for her private residences in King George VI Town. Mrs. Aien'orr will remain as a backbench State MP for the KGVI constituancy. Violence in For'af abates as Central Government troops roll in In related news, the rioting and violence in For'af has been quelled after the State Government forced former First Minister Aien'orr to accept Central Government troops into East Dannistaan to calm riots. The troops consist of 150 members of the 107th "Ha'na-bi" Nekomimi Regiment as well as 500 regulars from the Central Dannistaan army. 2100 troops from the regulars of the East Dannistaan army were also present. The Central Government had considered suspending the State Government and taking direct control until order was restored, but the motion to do this was defeated by 150 votes to 138 with 12 abstentions. Instead the Central Parliament accepted assurances from the East Dannistaan State Government that it can deal with the disorder by itself. As of today, the night curfew is still in effect from 9PM to 6AM. The State Parliament in East Dannistaan will decide on lifting it on Monday. And finally... In a survey carried out by BBC News Dannistaan, the most favoured source of accessible foreign news was the "KBC World Service", owned by the Kelssek Broadcasting Corporation, with it's news bulletins ranking as number one in the survey. The KBC World Service can be heard online from their website or on Long Wave radio or from 10PM to 6AM every Friday on BBC Radio Dannistaan 4 after normal broadcasting has ended. The survey also suggests that the KBC World Service podcasts are also a favourite amongst Dannistrians with access to a computer and MP3 player. The "Free Pacific Online Post" came second in the survey, followed by "Current Camera", an independent Dovakhan news programme. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories BREAKING NEWS: Central Parliament approves 2nd draft of new constitution The Central Parliament has unanimously approved a heavily watered down draft of the new constitution. The draft has heavy changes made to it in order to appease the Government Opposition. Amongst the changes include modification of the constituant states right to secede. They may do so but the threshold for a secession referedum has been lowered from a 75% yes vote to 60%. Each state also retains the ability to hold foreign relations outside of the Confederacy and to pass legislation independant of the Central Government unless that issue is either reserved by the Central Government or refered to it for a temporary amount of time. Essentially this means the constitution has not changed much from the previous one. One change that has bemused some MPs. it the change of name. The Confederacy of Dannistaan is now officially called the "Royal Confederacy of Dannistaan". Some republican pressure groups are however unhappy at the modification of the name. KBC presented with BBC Dannistaan Foreign News award Staff at the KBC World Service bureau in Nordu Dannistra City has been presented with the BBC Dannistaan Foreign News Survey Award as voted for over the last 2 weeks by Dannistrian citizens. Earlier, the survey showed that the KBC World Service came out tops amongst the Dannistrian public. According to the poll, The KBC World Service was favoured by 80 million listeners. Staff at the bureau were not available for comment but released a statement later saying they were "delighted at the award". |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Central Parliament calls for Mar'ril Aien'or's removal from politics Mar'ril Aien'orr, former First Minister of East Dannistaan, is now facing further pressure from the Central Parliament to resign from her position as MP for the King George VI constituancy. Central Parliament MPs are unhappy at the relatively light punishment that Mrs. Aien'orr received after her resignation as leader of the State Government in East Dannistaan and have called for the Prime Minister P'aanil F'orrlason-Smith to take action. Mr. F'orrlason-Smith, during the monthly Tribal Assembly Liason Select Committee hearing, said that action was being taken against Mrs. Aien'orr and that the Internal Ministry was investigating her comments. Mrs. Aien'orr's successor, First Minister Kelly Minn'ow-Jones, declined to comment on the matters. Troops deployed to Tyrsis Imperium as situation there worsens Dannistrian peacekeeping troops have been deployed to the Tyrsis Imperium as the southern coastal country descends into total chaos. IT is feared that the civil war in the Tyrsis Imperium would destabilise the surrounding nations, ultimately threatening the East Pacific. The Confederal Government of the East Pacific gave its blessing to a deployment of neutral troops in the area. Dannistrian forces were chosen with Mecha troops on standby in Sparta Nuva. Critics of the plan claim that Dannistaan is ill-equiped to deal with the situation at present. KBC to expand operations in Dannistaan The Kelssek Broadcasting Corporation or KBC is to expand it's current operations in Dannistaan. Currently the only KBC presence is a bureau located in Nordu Dannistra City and the only stations receivable by Dannistrian citizens is the KBC World Service, broadcasting on Long Wave, the Friday foreign stations slot on BBC Radio Dannistaan 4, 10PM to 6AM and the internet. Today, the KBC was presented with a license to set up FM stations in Dannistaan. KBC staff in the Nordu Dannistra City Bureau said they were delighted at the speedy granting of the license. Proposals for services include a Dannistrian language service and a localised English station. TDR to open new stations on the North Dannistaan Circular Railway Line Trans-Dannistaan Railways, the semi-privatised state railway operator for Dannistaan, has unveiled plans to open 3 new stations on the North Dannistaan Circular Line on the northern part of the railway network. The proposed locations of the stations are Orwoo East, Bas'sou Ha'cin and Victoria Fields-Newton Arr'ai. The proposals are welcomed by passenger groups, who say it will improve the already popular commuter line. |

The news was met with jubulation from citizens who have lived under the Imperial family's rule for over 40 years. The Rebels have declared that an Interim Administration will be set up to try and stabilise the country. One of the first tasks of the Government was to formally invite Dannistrian troops to stay in the nation and help gain control from the Imperial forces, who are still battling Rebel forces in various parts of the country. The whereabouts of the emperor are unknown, with some sources citing he is in the city of Darril-Bensoh. Free Pacific States arrive in Madison Free Pacific States military forces have arrived in the city of Madison. It is widely expected that the FPS will take control of Madison along with two other cities, Port Lyon and Oldton as well as several square miles of associated land. The land will be handed over as it has a high proportion of FPS citizens living and working there as well as its proximity to the border with FPS. The area, officially known as the "Port Lyon Bank," will also have access to territorial waters. The territory will officially be owned by the Tyrsis/Dannistrian Government but be administered by the FPS under a long term loan agreement. Confusion over legitimacy of Tyrsis Peacekeeping operation emerges and anti-war protests are organised around the country Confusion is starting to emerge over who actually issued the request to Dannistaan to enter the Tyrsis Imperium to quell the emerging civil conflict in the area. In a press conference with reporters, the Regional Grand Vizier indicated that he issued the order, saying, "If you want to know why I asked the Dannistran Government to begin a peacekeeing operation, it's because there was no one else to do it, and someone needed to. And if you can't deal with that, too bad." In the Central Parliament, the leader of the opposition Kil'leesi Mor'nith, challenged Prime Minister P'aanil F'orrlason-Smith to explain if the peacekeeping operation really was such. "It would seem that not only are we siding de facto with the Rebellion troops, we are also sustaining heavy losses against Imperial troops. Already there is 33 dead and 102 injured by the fighting. Is this really worth it? It should be noted that the Tyrsis Imperium has large Uranium and Oil reserves. So can the Prime Minister verify that this operation really is about keeping the peace?" Amongst much derisory comments and laughter, P'aanil F'orrlason-Smith explained that "The people of Tyrsis need help to prevent themselves descending into chaos. We were the nearest nation not adversely affected by Nekomimi flu outbreaks to help. We responded to the request. That is all we are doing. The right honourable gentleman should know the pain we as a nation went through during our time of civil strife and hardly anyone helped. I don't want to see people suffer like that ever gain. Oil and Uranium deposits have nothing to do with the matter. Those are just conspiracy theories put forward to besmerch the name of our finest soldiers." Meanwhile, protests against the operation took place outside the Central Parliament Hall, calling on the Government to recall the troops and discontinue sending more to Tyrsis. Many fear that it may ultimately end up sucking Dannistaan into a full scale conflict. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Breaking News: Anger at deployment of troops Angry anti-war protests have taken place at Central Parliament Hall in Dannistra Onn after it has emerged from a KBC Worldnews programme that the Government may have been involved in a cover up in reasons for the troop deployment. It is claimed that the operation was meant for peacekeeping in Tyrsis. However, sources from Kelssek claim that the reasons may be either blatently false or at the very least questionable. Opposition leader, Kil'leesi Mor'nith of the Conservatives, condemned the Government for its incompetence in dealing with the publicity surrounding the deployment. "We now are in a position where there is much turmoil and the left hand does not know what the right is doing! This is a PR disaster and the Government knows it!" The Dannistrian Central Government has since issued an apology to Kelssek, saying that it was not their intention to offend or make accusations at this moment in time. Tyrsis Interim Government rubbishes Nikolai Stoichkov's claims of "no genocide" In a related story, the Tyrsis Interim Government has rubbished claims made by Nikolai Stoichkov, a correspondent for the Etnier Free Press, that no genocide ever took place. In a rebuttal of the journalists comments in KBC Worldnews' Hardtalk programme, the Interim Prime Minister claims that much of the evidence of the Emperor's crimes were heavily supressed to prevent the outside world from knowing what was going on. "Mr. Stoichkov's comments are highly insulting and hurtful. We have conclusive proof of the genocide committed in the name of the Emperor by his troops, yet he still maintains no one knows what he is talking about. The reason no other nations knew of what was going on is because the Emperor took extreme measures to prevent others knowing what was going on, especially any information regarding the genocide," said Hakkah Tonnia, Interim Tyrsis PM, "I would like to invite Mr. Stoichkov over here again to give him a piece of my mind. We have uncovered several mass graves in the north of Tyrsis since he made those comments. He should learn to take his own advice and not be so hasty in reporting lies." Meanwhile, outside the Tyrsisian Government offices, angry Tyrsisians burnt Kelssekian flags and chanted racist phrases against the Kelssekians. In a mirror image of the Dannistrian protests, many held pictures of people who went missing, presumed killed by the Emperors troops as a sign of protest. The groups of about 3 million people also held placards condemning the supposed "International Wall of Silence" shown by the other EP nations. A boycott of Kelssekian goods in Tyrsis was also announced by community groups. Bai Lungese weapons found in Darril-Bensoh A cache of Bai Lungese weapons have been found in the city of Darril-Bensoh in Tyrsis. The weapons, consisting of several AK-47 rifles and plastic explosives of various types, have been found outside of the city during a routine patrol. The area was sealed off as the arms were destroyed by a controlled explosion. Video footage shows that Bai Lungese labels were attached to the explosives and Bai Lungese serial numbers stamped onto the weapons. Earlier, a car bomb exploded near a checkpoint in Darril-Bensoh, killing 1 soldier and injuring 3 others. Analysis of the explosives in the car bomb revealed it to be of a Bai Lungese origin. An investigation is currently underway and a complaint sent to the Bai Lungese embassy. |

The F-14A-D4 was part of a patrol sweeping suspected militant areas. The accident happened around 1PM. The weapon used by the insurgeants is believe to be a Type-55Z Bai Lungese anti-aircraft weapon. The Bai Lungese authorities continue to deny supplying weapons to Tyrsis. The individual involved in firing the weapon was arrested soon after by Kelssekian peacekeepers. Breaking News: Friendly Fire incident sparked off in Nordan Tyrsis In a related story, a "Friendly Fire" incident was caused by one of the fighter jets in the Nordan Tyrisis patrol retaliating against what was initially thought to be the group of insurgeants who fired the missile. It is now known that the group was actually military engineers from the Kelssek Forces repairing an appartment building. One death has been confirmed but Dannistrian Central Defence Command have refused to release the name of the fatality until his family and the Kelssek Government has been informed. Further Anti-Deployment protests take place in Dannistaan Common in capital A protest against the current deployment of Dannistrian troops is currently underway at Dannistaan Common, one of the largest parks in the capital, Dannistra Onn. The protest, organsed by the peace activist group "Dannistrian Solidarity", is one of the largest the capital has seen with over 3 million people waving placards. It is intended that a candle-lit vigil will be held for all those who have lost their lives in the war. Frederich Jol'ssin, organiser of the protest, says that he hopes more people of all nationalities, creeds and religions will join. "I want to send out a message that the people of Dannistaan do not agree with the actions of the Socialist Democrat administration. We are a peaceful people and this operation has been sold to us on lies and false pretexts. We will not allow our Government to get away with blantly ignoring the will of it's voters." The Central Government has repeated it's calls that the Confederacy did not take the decision to deploy troops lightly. "It was done in good faith with the information we had at the time," said a Government spokesman. |

Full articles available on www.bbc.co.dn or www.bbcdannistaan.com Top Stories Breaking News: Terrorists hit Nordu Dannistra City A car bomb has exploded in Nordu Dannistra City, causing severe damage. Official figures for the number of dead and wounded have not yet been released, however unofficial estimates place the dead at around 60 and 128 injured. An emergency session of the Central Parliament has been planned to formulate a response. The North Dannistrian State Government meanwhile has ordered for the northern districts of Nordu Dannistra City to be closed off. Other districts are unaffected and businesses are still operating in as full a capacity as they can. It is suspected that the blast was caused by a Tyrsisian insurgent. The current Insurgency consists of groups of former Imperialist troops loyal to the Emperor of Tyrsis. They warn that further attacks will continue, both in Tyrsis and in the homelands of all those involved unless the Emperor is returned and all foreign troops pull out. The Tyrsisian Interim Government has repeated its position that it welcomes foreign peacekeepers in the region and wishes them to stay. The Dannistrian Central Government has stated that it is in the region for the long term and will not pull out despite the threats. Meanwhile, in the national capital, Dannistra Onn, millions of anti-deployment protesters have taken to the streets. A local heavy rock band, "The Godmodders", say they will hold an impromptu anti-war concert free to those wishing to attend. The frontman of the band, Jason Don'hui, said that the Governments actions "Are not representative of the people of Dannistaan. We are not for this so-called peacekeeping operation and ask the Government to pull the troops out now while we still are at an early stage." Keep this page bookmarked for further updates. |
