Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() 20 people dead from For'af race riot over an offensive Halloween prank and racially motivated murder. At least 20 people have died and 150 more have been injured in BL Town, Western For'af, East Dannistaan after a Halloween prank and subsequent murder of a Dannistrian youth, intended to be targeted at Dannistrians went wrong. Today's riots have been the most serious of it's kind since rioters targeted the city after activist Bobby Doh'dos was shot back in August this year. According to local eye witness reports, the incident began around 0900 hours when a group of Bai Lungese youths threw a carved pumpkin into the direction of a group of Dannistrian youths. The words 'A typical Chappy' was written on top on the head of the pumpkin, presumbly as a prank. The Dannistrian youths took objection to the racially offensive message and confronted the Bai Lungese boys who lobbed the pumpkin. It escalated from a war of words into a fatal stabbing of one of the Dannistrian youths who died almost immediately at the scene. Both parties fled the scene before police cordoned off the area. Word has spread with the Dannistrian community that a group of Bai Lungese youths stabbed one of their own, coupled with the offensive pumpkin. Some Dannistrian youths mistakingly posted on Twitter that the Bai Lungese youths placed the pumpkin after stabbing the Dannistrian youth. Many Dannistrian rioters went into BL Town in Western For'af and proceeded to smash and loot Bai Lungese owned shops. Bai Lungese rioters responded back by throwing bricks and bottles at their Dannistrian counterparts. However, Dannistrian rioters have gained the upper hand by firing several gunshots at their direction, resulting in 20 deaths, 17 of them Bai Lungese. Police have sent riot police to the scene and the riots have been quelled by 2000 hours today. The Chief Constable has stated that there will be no further inquires into the race riot. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Left wing MP ejected from Lower House. Radicial MP Liang Guo-Hong, better known as Red Indian, was ejected from the Lower House yesterday for throwing objects at Secretary of Treasury Li Xing-chung. Bitter melon and pickled hagfish were amongst the object hurled by the Marxist Party member. In an interview with BLCTV News, Liang said he had grown impatient after listening to Li's revised 2011 budget speech for about 20 minutes and hearing nothing about addressing the plight of the poor.
The budget was released in response to the military's rampant borrowing policies after instiuting a pure flat income rate tax of 5% on all earners, while abolishing the estate tax, corporate tax, capital gains tax, property tax and sales tax. The public debt has skyrocketed from 20.02% GDP during Im's administration to 47.85% GDP when the Im administration retook control of the military occupied country. The $100 billion budget surplus produced by the Im administration has turned into a $1 trillion deficit. The budget mandates a partial return of Im's tax rates but would raise taxes on every income. The austerity measures, which would last 3 years, would increase all forms of taxes including the estate tax and sales tax. Despite harsh criticisms from Liang Guo-Hong and Marxist Party leader Sun Ju-Bai, President Im has vigourously defended his austerity plan, explaining the need to close the large budget deficit and repay the skyrocketing debt. |

The Deficit Reduction Emergency Plan Act was passed in the lower house despite being controlled by the Conservative Party. All Labour MPs voted in favour of the austerity plan while several Conservative MPs have crossed the aisle and vote with the Labour Party's plan. Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Austerity Bill passes in Upper House. An austerity bill which would see a hike in income tax on all individuals and cuts to public expenditure has been passed in the upper Senate. Yesterday, the Deficit Reduction Emergency Plan Act was passed in a Conservative Party dominated lower house. Despite this, several Tory MPs crossed the aisle to vote for the bill. The significantly more polarised Senate meant the Conservative Senate had to resort to fillibustering tactics in order to prevent the bill from passing. Speaking 30 minutes at any given time, the Tory Senate made several cases to oppose the austerity measure, citing high taxation equates to an assault to businesses. The austerity bill was amended slightly by the time BLCTV News released yesterday's publication. The implementation of the law will now take effect on 30th November, a month earlier than all previous amendments. It was passed by a similar margin to the original bill. It was ultimately passed in the senate by a margin of 110-88, with all Labour, Democratic and Marxist Parties voting in favour and all Conservative and Green Parties voting against it. The sole Kashgar elected senator abstained. The austerity measures was made in response to the spending habits made by the previous Nationalist Junta government. Some of the key provisions of the Deficit Reduction Emergency Plan Act: -All income tax rates to be increased from 15th November. Bottom rate will rise from 10% to 15% while top rate will rise from 50% to 55%. -All corporation, estate, property and capital gains taxes will increase to 30%. -National Sales Tax will go up to 20%, up from 15%. There will be no exemptions on certain items such as baby food and magazines. -Benefit claimants will receive 20% less money. -Military spending to decrease by 15% over a period of 5 years. -Child tax credits set to decrease to $250, down from $500. -National minimum is now set to $5.25/hour According to the office of the Financial Secretary, the budget deficit will disappear by 2014 and would project a $9 million surplus. The Public GDP would decrease to 26% by 2021. Critics of both sides are deeply skeptical towards the austerity measures, claiming it would further exacerbates the budget deficit and would stiffle growth in the long run. President Im is expected to sign the bill tomorrow. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() President Im formally signs Austerity Bill. President has today signed the highly controversial Deficit Reduction Emergency Plan Act which was passed in both chambers of the assembly. This was despite the fact that the lower house is currently controlled by the Conservative Party, who opposes virtually any tax increases. As a result of the looming budget deficit, several Conservative MPs rebelled against the whip's request by voting in favour of the bill. The Act will take place would take effect by the end of November in which everyone must pay higher taxes, lower wages and increased hours in order to close a massive budget deficit left by the Nationalist Junta who ruled from September to late October. Prime Minister Frederic Lin has expressed disappointment at his fellow Conservative MP's decision to vote in favour of the bill. He has formally announced that he would reprimand and censure all the 65 MPs who voted against the whip's wishes from tomorrow. He has announced that he would introduce legislation to repeal the bill and would introduce across the board tax cuts for all income earners, reducing the top rate to 30% and providing $1000 of tax credits to people earning $12,000 a year or less. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Prime Minister Lin formally censures Conservative MPs over Austerity Bill. Prime Minister Frederic Lin has censured 65 Conservative MPs for voting an austerity bill which would raise all taxes across the board. Lin, who is the leader of the Conservative Party, has blasted his backbenchers for caving into voting for the Deficit Reduction Emergency Plan Act. President Im, a Labour party member, defended his plan stating it is necessary to close a sky high budget deficit and pay off a moderately high public debt. Lin has also sacked the Chief Whip Derreck Kong, citing his inability to force the dissenting MPs to close ranks and show unanimous opposition to the tax plan. PM Lin has stated that he will expel one MP at a time should they speak out against the party line the next time a critical is pushed through the lower house. Lin will announce a rough draft of the tax cut plan on tomorrow evening. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Anti-Austerity Bill passes through Lower House. A bill which would launch an end to the incoming austerity measures passed and approved by the Im administration, has been passed through the Lower House successfully. The bill titled as the Taxpayer's Relief and Economic Stability Act, cuts income rate taxes across the board, in particular, the bottom income tax rate dropped from 15% to 10% and the top income tax rate dropped to 30%, down from 55%. The act also cuts to corpration tax, property tax, captain gains tax and the estate tax to 20%. Sales tax would be set to 12.5% while child tax credits would be raised to $1000 per family. It would also remove the wall between investment and commercial banks and merge the two as one entity. The bill was voted by a total party line, with all Conservatives voting for the bill and all opposing parties voting against. The 65 MPs who voted for the austerity bill, closed ranks to vote for Lin's tax cut plan as a result of Frederic Lin's stricter whip policy. It is highly likely the the Upper Senate will vote down this bill but be overriden by the Lower House through the Assembly Act. President Im has repeatedly stated that he will veto the bill if it passes through both chambers. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Two radical lawmakers ejected from the Senate; vote on anti-austerity bill delayed to tomorrow. Two Senators belonging to the radical left-wing Marxist Party have been ejected from the Upper Senate after they hurled abuse at their Labour and Conservative counterparts. Chen Dong Gun and Wang Tse-Bai attempted to fillibuster the tax cut bill and thus criticised it for favouring the wealthy and raising taxes for the middle and working class. Attempting to delay the vote as long as possible, Chen and Wang spent 30 minutes each reading letters from constituents. However, a new rule imposed in the Senate means a Senator who spends 10 minutes or more on the debating floor must wait after the two Senators who succeeded him/her finish speaking. Mr Chen was warned by the Presiding Officer to wait his turn until Conservative Senator Branson Kao has finished speaking. Mr Chen reportedly kicked his chair across the chamber, showed his middle finger and engaged in a prolonged rant against the Conservative Party and the Labour Party. He reportedly denounced Frederic Lin as a 'timid, retarded capon who bathes in the blood of innocent poor lives'. Mr Wang also denounced President Im, a Labour member, of being 'in bed with the Conservatives'. The two denounced Labour for not aiding the poor enough and the Conservatives for being beholden to the rich because of their tax cut policies in which they perceive it to be highly beneficial to the richest earners. It was not long before security took them out of the Senate chamber. The Senate voted in a bipartisan fashion to censure both Senators and a 20 day suspension. The vote to repeal the austerity measures will be held tomorrow. |

A bill which would reverse the austerity measures placed upon the country has failed to pass in the Senate on an entire party line. All Labour Senators voted against the bill and all Conservative Senators voted for the bill. The vote between the two parties would have killed the bill alone but it was the votes made by the Democratic Party and Marxist Party joined with Labour to ensure the passage of the bill is not to be. Prime Minister Frederic Lin has vowed to use the Assembly Act to override the ‘obstruction’. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Lower House invokes Assembly Act to pass anti-austerity bill in Senate. The Lower House has invoked the Assembly Act as the Upper Senate has voted down a bill which would end the austerity measures and would introduce across the board tax cuts. The Assembly Act only applies to overriding the upper Senate and not the President's veto. The also does not apply if the upper Senate votes down the overriding of the President's veto. All veto overrides require a 2/3rds majority in both chambers of the assembly in order to override the President's veto. It is widely expected that President Im will veto the bill followed by a short statement. |
