Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Bai Lung special election underway, Labour favourite to control Lower House while Conservatives favourite to control upper Senate. A total of 99 Lower House seats will be up for grabs, 34 of the open seats were formally occupied by the Marxist Party until their arrests on suspicion of flouting a New-Years Day curfew. The remaining 65 lower seats will represent the newly re-united South, which saw Dovakhan rule that part of the country from 2007 to the end of 2011. Polling stations will continue to open until 22:00 tonight. 23 Senate seats will also be up for grabs, consisting of 11 formally coming from Marxist Senators but were arrested on suspicion of the same aforementioned crimes and 12 seats coming from the South. The Bai Lung Express Daily asked a sample of voters if they favoured cohabitation or not. 72% favoured cohabitation while 15% opposed it. President Im and the Labour Party requires 16 or more seats in order to regain control of the house and if this feat has been achieved, along with retaining a majority in the Senate, it would mark the first time in Bai Lungese History that a major political party has taken both chambers of the assembly. Most polls rate 80% of the Lower House Seats as Labour Safe while giving 85% of the Upper Senate Seats as Conservative Safe. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() BREAKING NEWS: Early exit polls project Conservative gains in the Lower House and Upper Senate for special elections. Early exit polls have defied wide expectations of a continued divided Assembly as the Conservatives are now projected to gain 10 extra seats as well as gaining a further 10 Senate Seats, effectively taking control of the Upper Senate. The Conservative Party has become the first party in Bai Lungese history to take control of both chambers of the assembly. However, they yet to elect a candidate into the Executive branch and the likely front runner Prime Minister Lin is leading amongst all Labour candidates by a massive margin. The turnout in the newly re-united South is reportedly at 92%. Massive queues at polling stations meant that the returning officers in some of the stations had to provide bottles of water in order to cater to voters standing outside of the polling stations for so long. Despite recalling 34 Marxist MLAs and 11 Marxist Senators, the Labour Party has only managed to gain 3 MLA seats and 1 Senate seat. The rest were retaken by the Marxist Party, led by newly appointed leader Jonnie Ting Shi-Ing. Due to the large voter turnout, it is expected that it would take until Saturday to report 100% of all votes casted. Releasing a short statement at the Conservative National Committee before a 10,000 strong audience, Prime Minister Lin has called the Conservative victory has sent a strong message to President Im.

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Assembly questions President Im's Kelssek trip. Lawmakers at a special house committee meeting have voted down a request by newly elected Marxist Party leader and Presidential candidate Jonnie Ting Shi-Ing to demand answers from President Im to over his controversial weekend visit to Kelssek. President Im had been photographed dining with junket operators and high rollers at a casino-resort. Mr Ting had wanted to pose an urgent question to the Im administration during tomorrow's Lower House meeting. But lawmakers overwhelmingly rejected the request, and Speaker of the House Jasper Chen Yu-Cheng will now have the final say on whether the issue will be debated tomorrow. A spokesman for President Im said earlier that he had covered his own expenses. A spokesman added that he had been on holiday with his wife, and the primary purpose of the visit was grave-sweeping. He said the Ims had stayed on a friend's yacht during their stay, but denied that the couple had been treated to any extravagant meals, saying they'd only had a simple breakfast on board. The President's office also acknowledged that the President returned to the territory on a friend's yacht after his weekend visit to Kelssek. The spokesman said President Im had paid for the trip - at a similar amount to a regular commercial fare. He said that in normal circumstances, government officals were not required to report or get approval to accept entertainment during holidays. But he said President Im had been doing so, even though he was not bound by the rule. |

President Im yesterday accusations he might have breached the bribery law in a private visit to Kelssek, during which he stayed on a luxury yacht offered by a tycoon friend. A spokesman to President Im has denied that he violated the law, saying he paid a 'market price' for the benefit. Lawmakers at a special meeting turned down a request by Marxist Party Leader Johnnie Ting Shi-Ing to demand answers from President Im over his weekend in Kelssek. The spokesman to President Im said that the President and his wife, Celina, who went to Kelssek for a visit to Kelssek, paid their own ferry and plane trip to Kelssek. The couple had been "accommodated and ate a light breakfast on his friend's yacht during their trip", the spokesman said, but did not have a luxurious lunch or dinner on the boat as suggested by media reports. It is not known whether the couple stayed on the boat for one or two nights. The spokesman said President Im had paid for related expenses before returning to Bai Lung, but refused to disclose the amount of the reimbursement to "his friend". |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() President Im sets up panel to review transparency. President Im has announced that he is setting up an independent committee to review rules governing the conduct of top officials. President Im has invited attorney general Raymond Shi Myun-Dae to lead the panel. The move follows bribery and conflict of interest allegations after President Im has admitted taking trips on luxury yachts and private jets with a billionaire tycoon. Speaking on BLCTV Radio this morning, President said the affair had taught him a painful lesson but he insisted that during his 30 years of public service he had always acted in strict accordance to the rules. However, he said, society had changed and the public now had higher expectations when it comes to the conduct of top officials. He said it was clear that more transparency was needed. President Im said for that reason he is setting up a five-member committee to look at tightening the rules. Headed by Mr Shi, the committee is expected to begin work tomorrow and complete its study within three months. President Im admitted last week that he had travelled on private jets and yachts provided by tycoon friends. But he said he had paid for the entire trip without taxpayer's expense so there was no conflict of interest. A seemingly low rent for a penthouse in Nordu Dannistra, Dannistaan President Im plans to live in when he leaves office, and claims involving an expensive wine collection, also added to the controversy. There have been calls for the BLICAC to investigate the complaints against President Im. He said he would be happy to cooperate if it does. Lawmakers from the Marxist Party staged a protest outside the radio station in New Jian Sha Zui as President Im was speaking. Their leader, Jonnie Ting Shi-Ing claimed his actions had damaged the government's credibility. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() President Im admits to not declaring owning a penthouse. President Im has admitted he did not declare he would be renting a penthouse from a fellow Bai Lungese tycoon when discussing his firm's application for a broadcasting license at the Presidential Office Building. The President's remarks yesterday came as he explained why and how he rented a luxury suite in Dannistaan from Wang Yuan-biao for his retirement. Wang is one of the principal investors in Bai Lung Digital Broadcasting Inc, which successfully applied for a license in January this year. President Im last week admitted to renting a suite in Wilson Square, a luxury project in Nordu Dannistra developed by Wang's East Pacific Holdings, as a retirement home after his term ends in July. At the time the Broadcasting Authority was discussing BLDBI's license bid, he had yet to rent the flat, President Im said.
The decision to grant the license to BLDBI was made by the Broadcasting Authority and the Im administration had minimal involvement in the issue, he added. President Im also said Wong told him 3 years ago he wanted to renovate a private club in the luxury residential complex to turn it into a suite for rent. Wang yesterday took out a newspaper advertisement stating he rented out the suite to President for around BL$1.5 million per year for three years, while the renovation cost was less than five million ailorupodas. President Im also rejected accusations that he is greedy for favors from tycoons, as he traveled by their private jets to Kelssek and Dovakhan and yachts to Dannistaan. President Im said his wife and he paid BL$100,000 to charter a private jet to Kelssek in 2009. They also paid BL$6,000 each to fly to Kelssek this month and BL$300 each for a trip to Dannistaan in January and again this month, he said. President Im's office yesterday rejected a report that he had hired a private jet to Listonia in 2008. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() President Im seeks to restore public trust hurt by corruption probe. President Im sought to restore trust in his leadership and stem a growing outcry over collusion between politics and business, as he pledged to cooperate with a probe into his ties with tycoons. President Im has apologized to the public yesterday after the countries anti-corruption bureau started an investigation into his overseas trips on yachts and jets of businessmen, five months before he retires. The corruption investigation, the first ever into the President of Bai Lung, threatens to tarnish Im's four-year tenure and is shaking public confidence in government. His apology comes just days after Prime Minister Lin, front-runner to replace Im on the 1st July, was embroiled in a scandal about a basement built without government permission.
Prime Minister Lin has refused public calls to quit the leadership contest after securing nominations from the country's richest men. In a poll last month, two-thirds of the people surveyed said Lin should quit the race as respondents questioned his integrity. The Im revelations have further fueled public resentment, as surging property prices and an influx of money from Dannistaan widen the country’s income gap. |

Presidential front runner and current Prime Minister Lin has issued a stern warning to Independent Conservative candidate C.Y Liang over fears that a 3 way Presidential race would result in the Labour Party holding onto the Executive branch. The 59 year old Conservative leader warned that a fractured conservative vote would pave the way to for a 2nd term for the Labour Party. He has hit back at claims that he unfairly blamed his wife initially, for approving to build an attic at his wife's property. However, Tara Lin later accepted fully responsibility for the illegal extension. The appeal comes after a BLCTV News poll gives a 10 point lead for Prime Minister Lin in a hottly contested 3 way race.
Shortly after the appeal from Prime Minister Lin, C.Y Liang has hit back at his statement, denying any claims that he is splitting the conservative vote.
Since President Im has re-iterated his plans not to run for re-election, the Labour Party have scrambled for suitable candidates for the top position. On Monday, Labour backbencher Berty He has formally announced his candidacy for President. Although his candidacy provides some relief within the Labour Party, Mr He lacks name recognition and in fact, 20% would nominate him as President compared to 80% uncommitted according to a recent BLCTV News poll. |

Excerpt from Opinion Programme Across the Aisle C.Y Liang, Independent Conservative Candidate for President (On why he won't step out the Presidential race): 'My run as an Independent candidate with Conservative Traditionalist ideology is supposed to be an alternative to the de facto current two party system. Although there are a number of minor parties in the race, their role is largely limited to the legislative branch serving as kingmakers to highly divisive issues such as abortions. The purpose as my candidacy is to deal with the gridlock that has paralysed this country to great effect. Nothing is getting done in this country. The two main parties [Labour and Conservatives] are interested in promoting socialism. Labour wants socialism for one group and the Conservatives want socialism for another. The Labour and the Conservatives want big government with the former wanting it a little faster. Both party leader tell nothing more than egregious falsehoods after the other. The Conservatives think that my run will result in split the conservative vote. They automatic think that if I run, then conservative minded people will be unable to decide which conservative candidate they will vote for and would stay at home instead. That is total hogwash! I am running for President not to allow the Labour party to win, I am running for President to win in my own right. I will unite the ocnservative vote, not divide it. The dividers here are the two main parties who are only interested in hegemony and running an oligarchic society. One wants it faster than the other. I'll let you figure that one out...' |

A man has been detained by police after he allegedly heckled Labour Presidential candidate Berty He and attempting to assault him. The likely Labour candidate for the hotly contested 2012 Presidential race was visiting the famous busy market of Ai Guo Square. Mr He was speaking to constituents of all politicals backgrounds and floating voters alike. His easy going demeanor, handling of tough situations, eloquent speeches and soft spoken voice was widely praised by commentators and is seen by many as the right person to run the country. However, Wang Jun-Buk, a 29 year old joiner, heckled Mr He on the street and decried the Labour backbencher as being a 'far-left socialist' and 'hating traditional, stable families'. When Mr He ignored the heckling to move onto other affairs, Mr Wang ran straight towards Mr He and his entourage but failed to hit anybody as he was instantly overpowered by the 15 strong bodyguards. As Mr Wang was taken to a police van, he chanted out 'C.Y LIANG! C.Y LIANG! VOTE REAL CONSERVATISM!' Mr He's spokesman said he is not injured in the attempted assault but is a little shaken from the incident. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Li An Ying passes run for President. Former Prime Minister Li An Ying has made an announcement that he will not seek the Labour nomination for the 2012 Presidential race. Speaking outside Labour HQ, the former PM has shot down all rumours that he is seeking the Labour nomination for the Presidential election. He has cited satisfaction with serving as the MLA for his reasons not to run.
The latest news from the former PM is a serious setback for the Labour Party as they are scrambling for a suitable candidate to replace President Im who is declining to seek a second term. The current front runner is backbencher Berty He, but a lack of name recognition means he is unlikely to make a huge impact against the well funded incumbent Prime Minister Lin. The Secretary of State, Zhou Minlang, has yet to decided whether to run for the Labour ticket. |

Excerpt from Opinion Programme Across the Aisle Jonnie Ting, Marxist Party Leader (On his calls for President Im to resign): 'The President is quite frankly one of the most corrupt figures that Bai Lung has ever had. He lied about his trips with a billionaire friend, he lied about the appartment he has bought in Dannistaan, he has lied about the austerity package, he has lied about almost everything from day one since he took office. What we need is a real leader who can sell a real agenda sooner rather than later or else we will see the status quo over and over again. The Bai Lungese people are fed up every day and want some kind of transparency from the government. Voting for Prime Minister Lin will not solve things either. He is just as comfy with the big money people who want to buy and tailor the governent to suit their needs. There is no real difference between the Labour and the Tories, one is a little more comfy with big business than the other but they want to achieve the same goals. This is why President Im must step down and call a snap Presidential election and let the people elect a real leader.' |
