Alec Bing, the husband of radical and outspoken environmentalist Ingrid Kang, has been arrested in the city of Rilanon, Christie Island after he attempted to block delegates from around the world in protest of Syrene's intentions to sell the mineral coltan to various nations. Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() President Liang signs PORA. President Liang has signed the highly controversial Political Organisation Reform Act 2012 after a lengthy fillibuster by the Labour opposition in both chambers of the Assembly. PORA is one of the most outreaching powers granted to the executive branch. PORA will be made effective from August 2013, which would allow the President to shut down any political organisation which would openly glamourise extremist ideologies such as the Nationalist military junta. Despite lengthy fillibuster by the Labour opposition, it was passed through the Reconcilliation process, which requires a 50+1 majority vote. All Labour and other parties voted against it in the lower house while the Conservative controlled Lower House overrode the coalition opposition in the Upper Senate. Critics of PORA claim that President Liang would simply use the powers to shut down any Labour affiliated think tanks. |

Members of the Bai Lungese community living in For'af have unanimously condemned the former leader of the far-right Dannistrian National Party and right-wing activist Kelly Minn'ow-Jones for making a racially charged comment about the Bai Lungese. However, she also began speaking against Bai Lungese immigration and making correlations between East Dannistaan's stagnant economy and the high level of Bai Lungese immigrants. She then characterised the Bai Lungese's role in the economy as 'useful as pigs rolling in mud'. The video of her speech was uploaded online on ThrushXpress video service and has over 500,000 views. In an op-ed piece written by Ms Jones herself on the Dannistrian Sun, she has blamed 'excessive' economic planning by the Dannistrian Central government for East Dannistaan's large deficit. Ms Jones also claimed that it was all caused by Bai Lungese immigration to East Dannistaan and 'spreading Communist filth' to the state. Ms Jones also cited a link between large number of welfare recipients and Bai Lungese immigration for worsening the state's budget deficit. Ms Jones also attacked all centre-left Dannistrian newspapers for the controversy, calling them 'uber-left papers' and calling the Commission for Racial Equality Dannistaan (CRED) a 'far-left Stalinist organisation'. She has ended the piece by calling for deregulation of the state's economy and to halt all Bai Lungese immigration whilst deporting those currently living in East Dannistaan. A reporter from BBC News asked her 'pig rolling in mud' comment was harsh, she simply replied to him:

Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Textile businessman face further criticisms over controversial comments. The CEO of Ying Guo Textiles Toby Chen is facing further criticisms from the general public and all left-leaning parties after he made a suggestion that Bai Lungese workers should be paid BL$2 or less per day. His comments follow a recent a controversial article last week where he called poor workers 'coddled, lazy drunks.' Mr Chen, who co-founded Ying Guo Textiles in 2009, pointed to workers who make less than BL$2 as a model for economic competitiveness in job creation.
Mr Chen's comment, like with his previous statement, were condemned by left leaning political parties with the most vocifierous comments coming from the Marxist Party. In fact, the Marxist leader Jonnie Ting has renewed calls to impose maximum wages on CEOs like Mr Chen. President Liang has also condemned Mr Chen's comment, calling it unpractical and out of touch with the Bai Lungese way of life. |
