The Chairwoman for the Kazakhbari branch of the Marxist Party has made a scathing attack on President Liang for his poor environmental records, namely his decision to permit mining conglomerate FoxTrot to launch a bid to mine coltan minerals in the state of Syrene. Mrs Tang has called for clean energy and the Liang administration to invest more money into wind farms, stating that they would be cheaper to maintain and sustain in the long term. Currently, the Liang administration has plans to terminate all investments towards alternative energy for the 2013/14 budget, as well as 20% across the board taxcuts. The leader of the Communist Party of Dannistaan Andrew Ma is due to speak in the last day of the conference. |

The Liang administration has stopped Ko's, the country's most famous auction house, from auctioning a set of wine glasses once owned by former Stalinist dictator Chen Jong Sun. The set is a 1970 era piece manufactured in the fellow Communist state of Lazlow and was given to him in the same year. It is said that the glasses were his favourite stemware to drink with until his death in 2006. A spokesman for President Liang has explained that auctioning the items would 'glorify the brutal regime of Chen and would legitamise his legacy.' Ko's has announced that it would appeal to the High Court on the grounds that their human rights have been breached. |

The High Court of Bai Lung have voted unaminously to strike down an executive order which bans the selling of a set of wine glasses belonging to the late Stalinist dictator Chen Jong Sun. In their majority opinion piece, the High Court have ruled that the ban is a breach of free trade and a breach of human rights. The High Court, however, retained a provision of Executive Order 359043, which would ban members of the Marxist Party and people who have relatives (including distant ones) who are members of the same party, from bidding the wine glasses. The penalty set by the Executive Order for purchasing the wine glass set remains at 25 years in prison. The Marxist Party responded to the decision with open hostillity, slamming the High Court's decision to ban Marxist Party members and relatives from purchasing the set whilst allowing non-Marxist Party members and outsiders to place bid on it. |

A set of wine glasses once owned by the Stalinist dictator Chen Jong Sun has been sold for BL$1.5 million at the auction house Ko's. The 1970 era 5 piece set was the subject of controversies from both the left and the right. Those on the left, particularly members from the Marxist Party spoke against the idea of selling the items belonging to Chen because it defiles the 'Great Eternal Leader's' legacy whilst those on the right claim selling the wine set would glorify the late dictator. The High Court struck down an Executive Order which bans the auctioning of the item but retaining a provision which would prevent anyone linked to the Marxist Party from buying the item. Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Buyers rush in to buy propoerty as Liang administration imposes 15% stamp duty. Non-Bai Lungese citizens have rushed in to buy new property to avoid the 15% stamp duty charge imposed by the Liang administration which will come into effect from tomorrow. Non-local and corporate buyers will have to pay a 15 percent tax upon purchase, the Secretary of Treasury Liang King-Hua told reporters at a press conference on Oct. 26. The government also raised a resale tax on property by about 5 percentage points and extended the period during which it will apply to three years from two. The new charge will not apply to Bai Lungese citizens who are exempt from the charges. The new special stamp duty is aimed squarely at the other driver of Bai lungese property inflation: Dannistrian buyers. Investors from Dannistaan seeking a safer place to park spare cash have become an increasing feature in recent years. In 2008, non-residents bought one in seventeen of Bai Lung’s newly-built properties. Last year, they snapped up one in five. Taxing non-residents is a blunt instrument. It punishes Bai Lung-based expatriates who want to establish a permanent base in the city as well as domestic developers seeking to spruce up old buildings. It also treats mainland buyers as foreigners. These groups may yet challenge the new measures in court. However, the political appeal is clear. Rising property prices used to be a sign that a city was attracting high earners whose taxes and spending would add to prosperity. But when real estate becomes a safe haven asset for foreign landlords, many of them effective absentees, that argument no longer applies. |

Two MLAs have been suspended by the Speaker of the House after engaging in a fist fight over plans to reform the tax laws in the country. Tax reforms were top of the agenda after it was emerged that over 200 Bai Lungese companies used subsidiary companies headquartered in East Dannistaan to pay lower taxes. Fai Sha, a Pharmeceutical company, reportedly paid only 0.5% in taxes despite a large boom in profits. In the Lower House, Independent Conservative Chen Lai-Cao and Marxist MLA Wang Na clashed with one another over tax issues in the wake of companies avoiding the top income rate of 50%. Mr Wang suggested a maximum wage for everyone earning more than a million a year and stripping CEOs of their citizenship for avoiding taxes whilst Mr Chen proposed the abolishment of capital gains tax, property tax, stamp duty and the corporate tax in favour of a 10% flat income rate tax with a personal tax free allowance of BL$22,500. As Mr Chen compared his tax plan as simple as putting in a post card and showing an actual post card, Mr Wang objected to the plan and forcibly snatched the post card from Mr Chen's hands and ripping it. The two threw punches at each other before security restrained and escorted them out of the debating chamber. Both Mr Chen and Mr Wang were given 30 days suspension from attending the chambers. |

Bai Lung's tallest pub, The Ciccada, has been burned down to the ground after fans from rival football clubs brawled with one another. Yesterday, the Bai Lungese Premier League final took place with Pyongjing United went up against Pyongjing City. PUFC defeated PCFC decisively with a 5-2 score, despite being 0-2 down in the first half of the game. PUFC has won 79% of all matches played against PCFC but the latter has a larger fan base, particularly within the city centre itself. Two rival football fans allegedly argued over the merits of their respective football clubs. It is unknown who started the fight but most eyewitness reports said that one of the two fans glassed the other with a bottle which triggered a massive riot in the 10 storey pub. Fans from both clubs used their drinks to set fire to the area. Police were unable to quell the riots due to the narrow nature of the pub. The Fire Brigade were unable to extinguish the fire as it spreaded rapidly to the top floor. By 2200 yesterday, the pub was completely burned down to the ground. Although most of the people escaped before the building completely collapsed, 20 people died in the riots, most of whom died from smoke inhalation. At least 10 people were arrested on suspicion of starting the riots. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() BREAKING NEWS: Conservative Party controls Upper Senate by a slim majority. The Conservative Party has taken over the House of Senate as a majority Party for the first time in Bai Lungese history at the expense of Labour Party Senators. The Party now command a thin majority of just 5 seats. The Labour Party have made losses in the Lower House. They have lost 3 seats, all of them went to the Conservative Party. President Liang and Prime Minister avoided a number of hot button issues such as abortions and placed emphasis on the economy. However, they did blame former President Richard Im for his authoritarian stances on civil liberties, in particular the false arrest of Conservative MLA Darrell Ai Sha. President Liang had long campaigned for the top income rate tax of 60% to be slashed before the end of next year to 40%, followed by 35% in 2015. Notable moments in the election include Prime Minister Li An Ying narrowly won re-election in Choi central by a thin margin of 1,055 votes, similar to his 2010 election result. Independent Conservative MLA Chen Lai-Cao retained his New Zhejiang seat by a comfortable margin of 11% despite heavy campaigning by the Labour and Marxist Parties. He famously declared that he is "the ressurection" whilst clenching his fists in the air. Chen the Fedora Wearing Man from the Hat Wearing Society won his 3rd term in office by a slightly larger vote margin of 390. Andrei Vladmir Bolak of the Kashgar Democratic Party, the only Kashgar elected MP, won re-election by a decreased margin of 70 votes. Like with previous campaigns, Mr Bolak will continue his abstentionist policy by refusing to take up his seat in Parliament. Here is the results from Tuesday's election. Results for Lower House (BLCTV News Final Projection) Labour - 190 Conservatives - 260 Green - 1 Democrat - 7 Marxist - 34 Other - 7 Total Composition for Upper House (BLCTV News Final Projection) Labour - 73 Conservatives - 102 Green - 1 Democrat - 7 Marxist - 11 Other - 5 |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() President Liang proposes privatisation of BLCTV Group. President Liang has announced plans to privatise BLCTV Group, the state run news media best known for broadcasting BLCTV News. The proposals came days after the Conservative Party won a majority of seats in the Upper Senate and gaining 3 more seats in the Lower House. The 2012 legislative elections marks the first time that the Conservative Party have absolute control in the Assembly. Reactions to the proposals were mixed. Conservatives vocally support the plans whilst the left, especially Marxist Party members, spoke strongly against the privatisation. Marxist Party leader Jonnie Ting has announced that he would start a grassroots campaign called 'Keep BLCTV Public'. Currently, 95% of BLCTV is publicly funded, with only 5% funded by private companies. Under President Liang's proposal, the state would only fund 50% by the end of 2013, 25% by the end of 2014 and total transfer of BLCTV Group to the prospective buyer by mid 2015. The Assembly of Bai Lung is expect to write a draft legislation of President Liang's proposal on December. |
