Captive elephants have briefly escaped from the Ximen Zoo in the mainland and injuring 5 visitors in the process, Ximen authorities said. The elephants were due for a routine dental checkup when one of the five elephants became extremely aggressive. The male elephant threatened to stomp 2 veterinary dentists but neither were injured. The elephants tore down the fence of their enclosures resulting in a stampede that injured 5 visitors. One victim, a woman, had suffered a fracture to her left arm. She was treated at a nearby hospital. All of the elephants were tranquilised by the zoo staff and were returned back to their enclosures whilst a make-shift fence was built to prevent the elephants from escaping again. The Ximen Zoo site manager, Gerry Hee, has apologised to those who were injured by the elephants. He has offered BL$2,000 in compensation to the five people injured. At the same, Mr Hee has promised to invest BL$1,500,000 to fortify the enclosure so future incidents like today's stampede would be avoided altogether. Edited by Bai Lung, Feb 10 2014, 04:53:25 PM.

Secretary of the Treasury Jack Liang King-Hua has slammed members of the Marxist Party for proposing an entry tax for Bai Lungese living in the mainland as well as international visitors. Mr Liang has called the tax impractical and a slap to tourists.
The two Marxist MLAs who proposed it, Ding Bin and Robby Tien, deny that it was designed to discourage all tourists. They claim that their tax would attract 'higher quality tourists' and would discourage parallel import activities. Although leader Jonnie Ting has not seen the proposal, he is said to be open to the idea. |

A minibus passenger bashed and kicked the driver after his request to alight from the vehicle in a restricted zone was refused, the District court heard. Chen Jiaquan, 35, was charged with one count of assault causing injuries when he appeared at the Pyongjing Central District court yesterday. He and minibus driver Lin Xiaoan, also 35, are both charged with fighting in public. No plea was taken and the case was adjourned to March 25th. Both men were granted bail of BL$2,000. The court heard that the incident took place on Prince Yu Road on January 5th. The prosecution said the pair did not know each other and applied to adjourn the case in order to consider some other way of handling the case. Video footage of the incident, showed Chen demanding to get off at a restricted area. Lin refused Chen's request and both men were seen arguing at each other using bad language. Chen allegedly punched the driver from his left cheek and kicked him. Briefly, Lin lost control of the bus but kept on driving and continued arguing with Chen. Shortly afterwards, Lin stopped the minibus and the frightened left immediately. |

Reports of copycat attacks on bus drivers have shocked many parts of Bai Lung. The attacks come one day after a passenger and driver were released on bail for BL$2,000 each. Chen Jiaquan and Lin Xiaoan yelled abuse at each other and physically brawled after Lin, the driver refused to drop Chen at his desired location because it was a restricted area. In Port Sung, a 22 year old man kicked a 55 year old driver in the head whilst shouting 'DROP ME HERE! DROP ME HERE!'. The minibus crashed, injuring 15 people and the youth was arrested, only to claim that he saw Chen did the same thing. Another inspired Chen Jiaquan bus attack took place in New Fujian where a 30 year old man strangled a bus driver, also causing it to crash. The driver survived the attempted murder 20 people were injured and the man was arrested by police. A third copycat incident proved fatal. Bus driver Dong Qiyang was approached by a masked man who asked why didn't he take him to his desired location. When Dong asked the man which location, he was stabbed in the stomach and his throat slashed before the man ran away from the scene. Mr Dong died at the scene. Police have condemned the copycat attacks, calling for respect to all bus drivers. Police have however, ruled out any further protection for bus drivers or adding police patrols in major bus stops. |

A public slaughter of 20 pigs in Pyongjing have drawn condemnation by animal rights activists. The ritual began at 8 AM this morning in which a group of 25 people stabbed the pigs in their stomach whilst conscious. The squealing of the dying swine coupled with the heart ripping by the ritualists unsettled some of the 3,500 attendees but the reaction to the Valentine day ritual was positive. The slaughter was said to be a favourite past time of King Wang XII who is rumoured to have married 20 times during his lifetime but historians have refuted this claim. He had 20 pigs slaughtered during Valentine's Day as a gesture to his people. Animal rights activists have called for the ritual to be banned as the pigs have not been knocked out during slaughter. The city of Choi bans the practice altogether as Valentine's Day is seen as a western celebration by Mayor Ling Da Shui. |

Outspoken liberal radio talk show host Yee Weiyang has accused the Liang administration of supressing freedom of speech and ochestrating his sacking a day after he was dumped from his 3 year job at BL Radio Corp. Yee also criticized her employers for kowtowing to pressure in return for a 75% increased budget from 2015 onwards. Yee, known for his scathing comments against the Bai Lungese government, as well as previous governments from Wang Bin to Richard Im, was fired from her role as commentator on Thursday evening. It came three months after he was moved from a morning prime-time slot to an evening program. Yee said there were five possible reasons for his sacking: commercial reasons, changing demographics, the appointment of Barry Bing Zewen as CEO of BL Radio Corp in August last year, offending the senior management and political suppression.
Barry Bing Zewen did respond to Yee's remarks. |

Conservative MLAs have blocked Labour plans to introduce pollution reduction measures in a bid to increase the standard of living in major cities such as the capital. The Pollution Reduction Act 2014 would introduce a carbon tax on all vehicles. Labour MLAs say that the tax will be progressive as any vehicles that emit the most amount CO2 will be subjected to the maximum rate of 20%. The new tax is said to raise somewhere between 1% and 2.5% of GDP in revenues over a period of 5 years. Conservative MLAs say that the tax will damage the ecnoomy by raising taxes on everyone. Climate change skeptic Darrell Ai Sha has slammed Labour leader Li An Ying for his perceived hostility to business in general, as well as his alleged loyalties to the trade unions.

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Bus driver attack kills 10 people. A minibus has rolled down a Tae Pang Kee embankment after one of the passengers kicked the bus driver in the head, killing everyone on board. The incident took place on 1150 last night at the Xihu Highway, Tae Pang Kee police have said. CCTV footage recovered from the wreckage showed a man wearing a white coat getting out of his seat and delivered a strong kick to the driver, rendering him unconscious almost immediately. The minibus veered sharply to the left, crash through the barrier and rolled down an embankment initially killing 5 people on board, including the perpetrator. A fire broke out on the minibus and firefighters came to the scene after a motorist noticed burning wreckage on the Xihu Highway. Police have officially declared that 10 people were on board at the time of the incident and that half of those on board died from the initial crash whilst the other half died from smoke inhalation caused by the subsequent fire. It is unknown if the man who had an ulterior motive against the man or if he was inspired by the recent spate of attacks on bus drivers last week. The interior video footage shows the man getting inside the bus 20 minutes before the incident and remaining silent throughout. In response to the attack, local councils ranging from Pyongjing to Zibo have installed bullet-proof screens in the driver's area. The new measures would make it virtually impossible for attackers to kick, punch or stab the driver. |

After climbing to a high of 20 degrees Celsius yesterday, the temperature is expected to plunge to five degrees today and even lower tomorrow before warming up slightly on Friday. The Bai Lung Dalu Observatory said the mild and humid maritime airstream that brought warm and foggy weather to Bai Lung has been replaced by a cold front moving Eastwards from the Western part of the mainland. Bai Lung Medical Association council member Cheng Bo said the unstable temperatures could result in respiratory tract infections, especially for those with sensitive tracheas.

Opened in 1995, it was a handful of small businesses that was supported by the then-Chenite era in a political environment in which every business was owned by the government. Although Mr Cheng denies deliberately poisoning customers, those who contracted salmonella have been Pyongjing city councillors or relatives of the councillors. This has sparked massive speculation that Mr Cheng has a politically motivated agenda against politicians. Police have yet to charge Mr Cheng. Jang has denied that the guidelines will lead to an abuse of police powers by entrapping suspects by making them use bad language at police officers.

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. President Liang will not face an easy re-election in 2017 as a BLCTV News poll suggest that he is all square with a Conservative challenger. Liang, who is officially an indepedent candidate, and his Conservative challenger would garner 47% of the public's vote a piece if the 2017 Presidential election were to be held today. The numbers were given for a generic Conservative candidate. If the likely front-runner Frederic Lin, the current Prime Minister, were chosen as the Conservative candidate, Lin and Liang would get 49% of the vote each. A more controversial choice such as Darrell Ai Sha or Ling Da Shui would not give Liang an easy victory as Liang would barely pip Ai 41/40 and level with Ling 45/45. One common feature in the polls is that the candidates do not split the Conservative vote, thereby allowing a Labour victory. The Labour candidate does not get any more than 2% of the vote regardless of which Conservative candidate they are facing. None of the above is also a notable feature, ranging from 5%-10%. The Labour Party has been struggling with finding formidable candidates in the wake of several political scandals involving then-President Richard Im. President Liang's job approval rating is sharply divided amongst the public with 46% approving of his job compared to 47% who disapprove. |

The Mayor of Choi has been pelted with budae jigae by a small but vocal group of activists over comments considered by some as being Sinocentric. Ling Da Shui, who is known to have no Korean ancestry, declared on last Friday that Bai Lung is 'a Sinocentric state' and that anything short of his comments are unacceptable. Since taking office in 2012, Mr Ling has implemented policies which remove the Korean aspects of Bai Lungese culture with his city such as the removal of Korean signs and promoting Chinese cuisine over Korean. Signs that used to feature Korean characters have since been replaced with larger Chinese characters to fill the spaces where the Korean characters used to be. On Sunday, Mr Ling was widely reported to have asked the Liang administration to rename his city Choi to the more Sinocentric friendly name of Cui. At the Bai Shui Zhao Town Hall, Mr Ling gave a speech to businessmen, promoting the virtues of free enterprise and the Sinocentric way of life. Halfway through his speech, a group of activists taunted Mr Ling in Korean, calling for Korean culture to be preserved. Mr Ling told the activists to speak Mandarin before making a valid protest. The group responded by throwing budae jigae or army stew at Mr Ling in protest of his pro-Sinocentric policies. One of the stew portions hit Mr Ling by his left shoulder and his left side of his face before bodyguards took him away. The group of 5 men were arrested by police. In recent times, here has been massive concerns that politicians, in particular those from the Conservative party, are trying to erase all traces of their Korean ancestry and replacing them with a Sinocentric only culture. |

A documentary TV series about the Bai Lungese-Dannistrian War of 2007 will be broadcasted tomorrow on BLCTV Docu Channel. The entire series will last six episodes and will last 1 hour each with the exception of the first episode which will run at 75 minutes. Bai Lungese-Dannistrian War: The Truth will discuss about the Nationalist Junta's policies in the run up to their attack on Dannistaan using long ranged missiles such as their misguided attempt to stimulate the nation's economy by cutting taxes sharply and raising spending on the military. Producer and creator of the series Orson Yuen said he did not want the series to be a purely talking head documentary but will feature archival footage, CG re-enactment of key battles and voice-over narration from interviewees and actor Oliver Shi to drive the programme. The program is already gathering massive controversy in the country as the series contains previously classified information that was unavailable to the general public and potentially defamatory claims. Some Conservative MLAs and Senators have attempted to block the broadcast of the program as they lament that it could glorify an armed insurrection amongst Nationalist and Communist groups. Outspoken Conservative MLA Darrell Ai Sha has called for Mr Yuen to be arrested for sedition for his role in making the series.

A sledgehammer was found in the adjacent Bajia Street. CCTV footage showed two male suspects wearing dark-colored overalls, with both of them carrying a black backpack. Shortly before 5am, the security guard at the mall heard the alarm bell on the first floor ringing and rushed to check. He saw the windows of Liu Fang Jewellery were broken, with glass scattered all over the place. A bag and a 10 kilogram hammer were found at the scene. |

A local restaurant has offered a special budae jigae dish named after the Mayor of Choi. The Mayor Ling Jigae special, named after Ling Da Shui, is a jigae dish but with a Chinese variation added to the mix and is sold at the Taeguk restaurant for BL$3.5. This is an ironic statement against the Sinocentric views of Mayor Ling and most of the Conservative politicians. The owner of Taeguk, Kim Kihoon, said he will continue selling the dish until Mayor Ling apologises for his mistakes and respect the Korean aspect of Bai Lungese culture. He added that by imposing a Sinocentric hegemony will hurt the character of Bai Lung. Last week, Mayor Ling was pelted with budae jigae by activists after he declared Bai Lung a Sinocentric state. |

PM Lin has warned fellow Conservatives not to amend their party's constitution which would mandate a Sinocentric policy. The appeal comes a day after Labour party members voted to amend their constitution, effectively calling for politicians to promote and protect the Korean aspects of Bai Lungese culture. Whilst not mentioning the Labour party by name, Lin has warned that promoting a Sinocentric culture would cost votes in the mid-term elections.
Yesterday, there was major controversy involving a Conservative councillor in Port Sung. Sha Lin once described the Korean language as a virus that needs to be eradicated. |
