A man has caused a major fire incident by setting himself on fire at his Cai Hong aparment in Pyongjing. The fire brigade took 3 hours to put out a fire which started on the 10th floor and spreaded to the 11th and 12th floor. Remarkably, no-one was killed in the fire although 10 were admitted to hospital for smoke inhalation. The green light to allow everyone back into the high rise flat was given at 0900 this morning. Wang Dejin, 30, was reportedly suffering from depression and was addicted to alcohol. Family members say that Mr Wang liked to gamble a lot of his earnings and mixed his pleasure with drinking at least a bottle of Wuji. Firemen did not find many possessions left by Mr Wang other than a lighter, can of petrol and cotton balls. It is widely believed that Mr Wang sold most of his belongings to fund a gambling habit. |

A Junior Grade school has apologised to hundreds of parents after they accidently sent DVDs to children and parents containing pornography. The school was meant to send recordings of a Peking Opera performance performed by the pupils during this years summer. The school said the fault lay with the production company that made the DVDs and that an investigation had begun. Wangpu Principal Kitty Kim said the error was only discovered by school teachers after one of them picked up a copy for themselves and played it. The DVDs have since been recalled. Two 12 year old girl twins who attended the Peking Opera was reported to have seen the DVD. Their father described the film as 'filthy beyond belief'. Principal Kim posted a statement on the school's website apologising for the error.
Shaolin Entertainment did not comment on the matter when contacted by BLCTV News. Whilst most parents expressed outrage at the pornography, some parents also objected to the filming of their children performaning, calling their performance a 'private occasion'. A self-described True Conservative parent has called for the immediate resignation of the Principal and announced his intentions to send his son to a private school. |

A factory that specialises in burning music CDs and DVDs for major record labels has closed their premise after several of their machines broke down due to stress. The Laolao Factory spokeperson said it was caused by the excessive demand for the Calypso hit 'Take Your Money' which meant the machines were running longer than usual. They confirmed that 2 of the printing machines had jammed after running for an 'unspecified time.' The good news for workers is that the problems had been resolved today and shifts were running as normal. Take Your Money remains on the top of the charts. |

The President of the Bai Lungese Federation of Student Rick Teng Ma will not renew his 2 year term when his current term ends on the 20th January. Mr Teng has always maintained that his resignation was always part of his intentions and that he has no further plans to seek a 3 term as BLFS President. The 33 year old has thanked fellow students for supporting him during his almost 4 year reign. Teng has accepted a position at the Bai Lungese Federation of Unions. The role is unspecified but rumours suggest that he might be a spokesperson to Henry Ho, the president of the largest trade union in the country. Outspoken Vice President Al Yu Cheng is the firm favourite to be the replacement for Mr Teng when the election to pick the next president begins next week. A prominent right-wing columnist is facing heavy criticism from both left and right for suggesting that women like to be raped for fun during a night out. Wang Dede, writing for the Bai Lung Morning Post, wrote on this morning's edition suggesting that 'when women go out to enjoy themselves, they have a predilection for asking to get sexually raped by men. Some might not do it directly but based on what they wear, they are walking adverts.' Mr Wang's comments have been strongly condemned by both sides of the political spectrum with the general consensus calling the comments 'gratuitous'. Many Labours MLAs have called for the dismissal of Mr Wang. |

ShowBiz Records have turned a request by Singer-Songwriter Jay J. Ahn to stop burning CDs of his hit single 'Take Your Money', according to the singer himself. In a short interview with BLCTV News, Mr Ahn has apologised to the Dannistrian community for his 'racially inappropriate lyrics' saying it was merely tongue-in-cheek. The Bai Lungese public saw the song as a statement against Dannistrian supremacy whilst Dannistrians themselves denounced the song as racist. Mr Ahn has revealed that he attempted to ask executives of ShowBiz Records to halt the sales of his Calypso single with immediate effect. He has requested the removal of his song from shops at least '10 times or more' but claimed that he received an e-mail that 'customer demand means more production of Take Your Money'. Mr Ahn then claimed that executives have threatened to fire him if he made another complaint and that he would be asked to return half of the $20 million contract which he signed up in 2010 and is due to expire next year. |

Kashgar activist Boreesh Korbachiv has expressed his desire to run for the next leadership election to become the next spiritual leader. Mr Korbachiv who attempted to run against incumbent Supoorimat Barkediev in May 2012, campaigned himself as a true champion of the Kashgar people. He infamously called the incumbent a Bai Lungeese in all but name and appearance. He went as far as to accuse Mr Barkediev of appeasement. Korbachiv ultimately lost the election 44%-56%. Details on his 2016 campaign is sparse as prominent Kashgar figures consistently refuse to speak to Bai Lungese media. Much of the information is obtained through 3rd party sources. Mr Barkediev will not be able to run for another term as he served more than half of the remaining term of Tentsin Farabhazi. |

Bai Lungese Federation of Unions and the Liang administration have failed to reach an agreement to increase the monthly pay for all civil servants by an average of 5%. Teachers would see an increase from their BL$1700/month salary to that of BL$1785/month, an increase of 5%. The Liang administration last week offered a 3% increase but the largest trade union rejected the offer. Alex Ren Hebao, President of the BLFU, has condemned the ideology of President Liang, who is committed to cutting the budget and giving away tax cuts to the richest earners and hiking taxes to the poorest. He has claimed that Liang's capitulation to the more hardline Conservatives in the Assembly is the real reason why talks have fallen through.

Police have arrested 20 people who were gathering at the site where the mausoleum of the late Stalinist dictator Chen Jong Sun was located. The group waved banners in support of the late dictator who died in September 11th 2006 but his embalmed body was burned 3 years ago by the then-President Richard Im. The body was scheduled for cremation on the 29th December 2011 but Im had implied in his final Christmas speech that the cremation of Chen was completed before Christmas Eve. Bottles and bricks were tossed at the direction of police although they were already protected with riot gear. The site of the former mausoleum is now cordoned off to the public. Both the Im administration and the current Liang administration maintain that the site should not be used as a place to pay tribute to Chen as he is believed to be responsible for the deaths of 100-175 million of his own people. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() President Liang gives annual televised Christmas Message: Change for the best. TV and radio audiences are treated to a familiar sight for this Christmas Day, that of President Liang giving his Christmas speech to the nation. In his 3rd annual message, the President made Change the theme of this years message. The President focused his speech on the pro-democracy who accused him of gerrymandering the electoral map as a way to keep the Conservative Party as the ruling party in both chambers of the Assmebly. President Liang has denied that such changes were partisan and the changes were based on recommendations issued by the Electoral Commission Bureau who looked at population change. The President has commented on the changing number of MLAs, particularly that of establishment Conservative polticians being replaced with 'more radical' counterparts. He has vowed to work with them to find common ground. The budget deficit remains a favourite enquiry of both politicians and public alike. Like with last year's speech, the President informed viewers that revenue will exceed expenditures by the end of 2017. Referencing the roaring decade of last year, President Liang finished the speech by saying that the nation is roaring for change.
The idea of a Christmas Speech by a ruling continues to divide opinion amongst the political spectrum and this years speech proved to be the most divisive of all. Unlike last year where Conservative reaction were mostly positive, this years speech saw a massive rift between establishment Conservative and the True Conservative Movement. Establishment Conservative spoke favourably of the speech whilst the TCM supporters spoke negatively albeit with varying reasons. Some TCM supporters believe that the speech is too 'centrist' whilst others feels that there should be no speech on the grounds that it reminds them of Stalinist dictator Chen Jong Sun. Labour politicians blasted Liang for painting the pro-democracy protesters as being violent and uncivilised. For the 2nd year running, Tien Ha Station has broadcasted an alternative Christmas Message that ran alongside the President's message. This years speaker is BLFS President-elect Al Yu Cheng, who was unanimously elected by fellow students. Mr Yu gave a provocative speech, calling for the occupy Pyongjing movement to be ressurected and to encourage the Bai Lungese to vote out all Conservative politicians. |

Controversial Quality of Life laws will take place at New-Years Day 2015 in the city of Choi, only less than 72 hours at the time of publishing this article. Sitting on pavements, sleeping inside cars and panhandling will now be deemed a criminal offense and will now carry a BL$5,000 fine and/or a 5 year prison sentence. Mayor Ling Da Shui has said that the laws are designed to improve the well-being of the residents of Choi by making them feel more safer when commuting to and from work. Critics of the law say that it doesn't tackle the problem of homelessness and poverty in the city, which stands at 7% of the city's population. The Human Rights Commission of Bai Lung have proposed an alternative of a Universal Basic Income to both the Choi Mayor and President Liang. Mayor Ling rejected the basic income laws, saying it would require an increase in taxation to pay for basic income. Passed back in July this year, the by-law was challenged at the High Court in the same month. Only last week did the High Court formally reject the case, claiming by-laws are constitutional. Human rights groups continue to have the Quality of Life laws repealed. |

A couple has been ordered by the High Court to never fly with any airliner permanently and an 8 year jail sentence for assault. Chief Justice Raymond Hong has ruled that Connie and Corey Wah's behaviour during a flight to New Xinjiang was 'barbaric beyond belief.' In December 2013, the couple became upset when they could not sit together despite a flight attendant tried to help them change their seats. The court learned that the couple threw hot water at flight attendants for failing to comply with their demands. Mr Wah then threatened to 'blow up the plane' after failing to receive a receipt for his order. Mrs Wah became hysterical and started to bash the window threatening to jump out. The plane took a u-turn and landed back at Bai Lung International Airport. Chief Justice Hong told the couple that their selfish and wreckless actions did little to improve the image of the Bai Lungese people. The couple could be granted parole after serving 2/3rds of their 8 year sentence. Showing no remorse for his victims, Mr Wah began insulting everyone in court and threw a pen at Chief Justice Hong's direction but missing his head by inches. Mr Wah could face additional sentence for assault on a senior official. |

Most of the arrests were made in the capital when they were caught loitering in the streets of the capital, the place with the most police presence. The group of men and women were given a last warning to head back to their homes or face arrest. Many did comply with police orders but hundreds more continued to celebrate the New-Years loudly even singing the Jay J. Ahn hit song 'Take Your Money'. There were brief scuffles betweeen the dissenting party goers and the authorities but the group overall dispersed within 10 minutes. Since the 7 year old law was put into place, over 1.2 million people have been arrested, most of whom are homeless people who do not have a choice but to sleep on the streets. President Liang is confident in his committment to privatise the state owned BLCTV Group, the channel known for running BLCTV News. With an increased Conservative majority, the President can now get the votes he needed to privatise the government owned channel. He posted an online blog outlining his proposal to sell off the entire station to a private firm by the end of 2016. The plans to privatise the station first came into fruition in November 2012. The privatisation plans would see half of the station's stake be sold to private firms by 2013 and total privatisation by 2014. The plans did not materialise after filibustering by the Labour and Marxist opposition, effectively killing the bill. With an increase Conservative majority, this means that filibustering can be overriden for a simple yes or no vote. |

Labour and many establishment Conservatives have blasted the True Conservative Movement for sending multiple e-mails to Conservative politicians whom they deem to be insufficiently conservative. The chain e-mails lobby establishment politicians not to vote for tax increases and to support a flat income tax rate of 10%. Those who do not vote for 'pro-business' bills will primaried 'as soon as possible'. Merlin Wu, an self described moderate Conservative, has told BLCTV News that he received 30 e-mails from the True Conservative Movment in a 5 hour period, indicating their undue influence on establishment politicians. Mr Wu was barely re-elected last November after TCM activists ran as an independent to overthrow what they see as 'a Labour politician wearing Conservative clothing'. The e-mails did not come from a specific activists although the address shows that it came from the Choi branch of the Conservative Party. Nobody from the TCM has commented on the issue. |

Todays Headline from New BLCTV News. Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in English, Dannistrian and Dovakhanese)![]() Political in-fighting stalls BLCTV privatisation bill. A proposed piece of legislation which would privatise the state owned BLCTV Group has failed to pass in the Lower House after 'establishment' Conservative MLAs joined with Labour counterparts to block the bill. Although the Conservative have a 137 seat majority, a large number of rebel MLAs joined the Labour in a filibuster, attacking the privatisation plan as giving away a cultural icon. The number of dissenting MLAs means that Prime Minister Lin could not get the 2/3rds of the vote needed to pass the bill. An attempt to end the filibuster is also difficult as it requires a 3/5 vote to end it. PM Lin simply told reporters that he will try to convince the dissenting faction to vote for the bill but did not rule out expulsion for those who joined in the filibuster. |
