A film expert has claimed that the original film negatives stored in a small warehouse in Turkmenbari before being set on fire by Bischkek State extremists may never be restored again. Tommy Ting, deputy editor of Film Life, said that the fire swept much of the building. The lack of fire sprinklers, storing the archive films in partially wooden shelves allowed the fire to burn for a longer period. According to police reports, 90% of film cans have been completely incinerated whilst only 10% were partially burned. The Kazakhbari Council took preemptive measures by deploying 15 police officers to patrol another warehouse which houses 2,500 film cans should Bischkek State target there. |
