The Liang administration will not ease tariffs on Dannistrian leeks despite widespread rumours saying so. Rumours of abolishing the leek import tariff emerged last week when the Standard Bai Lung reported an unknown member of the Liang cabinet claimed that the tariffs could be lifted in next years budget. However, Secretary of Treaury Jack Liang King-Hua spoke on behalf of the president to give his statement on the subject.
Since 2008, a 15% tax is imposed on all imports of leeks from Dannistaan. The tariff was imposed by then-interim administration later president Richard Im, with the intention of protecting the leek industry in Bai Lung as well as raise revenue to repair damaged buildings in the country. The Dannistrian leek lobby have sinced campaigned MLAs and Senators to abolish the tariffs in many forms such as adding amendments to Bai Lungese-Dannistrian Free Trade Agreements to ensure the abolition of the tariffs. |

Artist J.L Lee has told BLCTV News that he will not remove off the pro-True Conservative Movement graffiti on his latest sculpture, The Echo Chamber, on show at the Palace of Port To. The sculpture, which is a 3.5 metre bronze tube, was scrawled with graffiti in support of the movement. One such writings include: 'KEEP BAI LUNG TRULY CONSERVATIVE'. Mr Lee, a self described socialist, said that he would not remove the graffiti, in order to highlight the intolerance of the movement and the writings further strengthen his stance on the movement. |

Organisers of the Bai Lungese Leek Festival will implement DNA tests on giant leeks to weed out cheaters. Organisers of the prestigious horiicultural festival will use specialist technology from Dannistaan to ensure the winning vegetable is of the Liushan variety. The giant entries must be from that strain of plant to win the BL$2,500 prize. The move comes after previous giant leek entries may have originated in Listonia. Show director Dick Le said they wanted to be certain the winner "is honest and grew the leek to the right pedigree." The Liushan class, developed for its huge green leeks, was launched in March this year, with the final weigh-in on Thursday. |

A soldier is to the receive Bai Lung's highest military honour, the Golden Bauhinia, for his role in taking down 25 Bischkek State fighters in Kandaunbari. Ernest Yang Gu, a corporal from the Bai Lung Marine Unit, and 20 of his fellow marines were initially outflanked and outnumbered by Bischkek State fights in the Battle of Kaundaunbari in July last year. Despite the 4:1 ratio, Mr Yang was unfazed by the numbers. Situated in a 5 storey building, he bravely took out 25 armed insurgents, all but two were shot in the head. Mr Yang deliberately moved from window to window, floor to floor to prevent counter-attacks made on him. This tactic scared the fighters and the 1 hour battle lead to a decisive victroy for the Bai Lung military. Mr Yang said of the award: 'Whew! That's one hell of a prize!'. Restaurant patrons have foiled a robbery by standing up to the armed duo and restraining them. Two men, believed to be in their early 20's, entered Arirang Restaurant in Dong Mun Street, Central Pyongjing, and asked everyone to hand over their wallets. The robbery attempt went downhill from there as a woman simply stood up and smashed a wine bottle on one of the thieves. The confusion caused by the counter attack gave the patrons enough time to restrain the pair before they retreated. Both men had their balaclavas removed to ensure their faces are clearly seen by the authorities. Police arrived at around 1200 and both men were taken into a prison van. The guns used are believed to be genuine and not a toy gun. Both men face charges of attempted robbery and assault. |
