Full stories available on www.newblctvnews.bl (Articles also available in Traditional Chinese, Dannistrian, Dovakhanese and Korean)![]() Richard Im trial: Day 278 summary. -Former President of Bai Lung Richard Im is found guilty of one charge of misconduct in public office after failing to disclose several donations totaling BL$2.5 million to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) from Dannistrian construction company SPDR between 20th January 2009 to 15th April 2012. Lawyer Brooklyn Bing entered a no gulty plea to all charges on behalf of Mr Im who remains silent throughout the hearings. -Chief Justice Raymond Hong declared that there is no evidence to suggest that Mr Im had attempted to reciprocate the favour by granting SPDR unlimited access to unused land plots in Bai Lung including the construction of 15 high rise apartments in Hapkido district, Southern Pyongjing. A 5 acre plot to build a shopping mall was approved in 12th December 2010 from both the President and the Labour controlled council. The mall was finished in June this year. -Some of the more outlandish claims such as alloting BL$5 million to secret service to bug Conservative HQ were swiftly reject by the jury. Over 200 claims of misconduct were dismissed. -Top prosecutor Garland Gao said of the verdict: "I am disappointed that the jury only found one charge of misconduct when [Mr Im] is used his powers as president to commit these corrupt activities that were happening behind our backs. He should have been jailed for life imprisonment." -Mr Im's punishment will be decided on Tuesday 12th. |

The trial also failed to find concrete evidence that Mr Im was involved in dodgy business deals with BLCTV Chief Executive Wang Yuan-Biao. [Im] has fallen from so sigh, so he deserves to be punished severely." -Brooklyn Bing has re-iterated his plans to lessen the punishment so Mr Im would only need to do community service and pay a fine. |
