Portico/Shock and Awe OOC

At this point, I'd like to go ahead and open an OOC thread, on the subject, now that there is a public event taking place. I guess the biggest, most-important note I want to make right now, is the timeline.

Please keep in mind that this timeline is based on when the RP thread was first created, back in the summer. Kandarin can advise how to handle the timeline in related threads, or I suppose he can recommend I bring the timeline to present. As he is RP Admin, I'll leave that up to him.

Any questions or comments regarding "Operation: Shock and Awe, Code Name: Portico" should be posted here, within this thread, of course. And yes, I'll try my very best to keep the momentum going, now.

The island of interest is one of the original five Imatronian islands. It was set to be officially acquired by Gnidrah through a diplomatic agreement. Imatron, however, later retracted it from their side of the agreement, though all paperwork had been finalized and agreed upon, thus being official before the Imatronian government's refusal to relinquish control of the island.

The island is in close proximity to the Gnidrahn island Christianus, to the south and southwest; the Imatron's main island to the northwest; and Lazlowia, to the west. It is not too populated, due to the rough, rather inhabitable terrain throughout a majority of the small island. It's primarily populated by civilians, though they are mainly located in the central, northeast and eastern areas of the island. Their main form of travel to and from the island and Imatron's main island was by means of vehicle, via a large bridge that connected the two islands, in the northwestern end. Military personnel mainly occupy the west of the island in a military base, through which the island is controlled militarily, with some patrols throughout the rest of the island, particularly in the southwest, south and north-by-northwest areas. Though the island has no capital, it does have a city government building, by which the Imatronian government extends its non-military control over the island.

That should give you a rough idea. I'll be able to show you more once I complete a map of the area, showing occupation and the areas I mentioned above. I hope to and should have that map by tonight.

Gaaaa... NOW he'll come out with a PERFECT map. I can already imagine it. We'll be able to count each single trees.

That's... that's unfair competition from a graphic-webmaster against we poor mortals struggling with Paint 0.9 (because 1.0 is TOO advanced)... :P

Well, probably I'll have something to say about it. After all I'm the neighbour, everything concerns me, especially these military things.

As a note, I will probably be editing the times associated with this RP, to bring them to-date, and to allow easier integration of events between current-event threads.

Nah, it won't be too fancy. I promise. ;) (I don't have that much free time on my hands, you know...) Oh, and I prefer graphic designer, lol. And no comment about you "mortals" using Paint. :D

Absolutely. Your participation would be welcome. Gnidrah's DoD has it in mind to not only keep the civilian casualty count low (preferably zero, but that's possibly unlikely, I'm afraid), but also to ensure the Gnidrahn military doesn't let the battle extend to Lazlowia. In other words, we're trying to keep you out of it, as it is not you who we have the issue with. But that's not to say you cannot get involve in a way you see fit. I'd love to have a good RP going, with active participants and the like, to keep it interesting.

Am I wrong or have the relevant dates changed? Does it mean the thread is now on the main timeline of TEP?

As I mentioned earlier they would be, the dates have been changed to conform to the current timeline of the East Pacific.

In case anyone is wondering, Amalla is one of the few words to hop from telessa (Third Cycle Elvish) to English, or at least, the Kandarinese dialect thereof. The gist of its meaning is synonymous with "Gentleman" or "Gentlemen", but feminine. Normally this role would be fulfilled by "Lady(s)", but in Kandarin that is a word only used to describe those possessing actual noble rank.

The original word that Amalla is based on is used only in singular self-reference, and is also fairly obscure. Nevertheless some English speaker thought it sounded cool, and it stuck.

Well, it's a good thing I created an OOC thread, because I am confused on something. Lazlow, what Hungarian territories are you speaking of?

First, Lazlowia is inhabited by Hungarians or Magyars, whatever you call them. The whole thing comes from history. These parts of the Pacific was explored by hungarian explorers. in 1526 the turks attacked Hungary(like in the real world), and many hungarians emigrated, to find a new home in the Pacific, frem from the turks and from the king. They founded different countries, and some of them were on an island, which is now Imatronian territory. In 1711, most of the countries decided, that the best solution for their problems is, that they should unite in one country, called the Kingdom of Far Eastern Hungary. But those countries, which were in Imatron didn't joined them, and later became part of Imatron. During the XIXth century the nationalism also rised in Far Eastern Hungary, and soon the king decleared, that these territories are part of the fatherland. These calims remained despite the fall of the monarchy and the nationalist victory in the first civil war in 1921. Although in 2006 the communist won in the second civil war and renamed Far Eastern Hungary to Lazlowia, the government still have a claim for those territories.

Actually, some months ago, I asked, that can I have territories from Imatron, but I was denied, becouse they were under "historical protection". How comes, that you can have territories from it. They are not under protection anymore? Or just becouse you are an older member, you can do anything?

I believe that "Historical protection" rules have been changed recently at the behest of FPS. Previously, they applied to all territories possessed by historical nations. Now only the capital territories of those nations are required to remain in those nations' hands. A few months ago, neither your invasion nor Gnidrah's would have been allowed. Now both are allowed.

p.s.2: Looks like i´m your neighbor now Dannistaan. Guess we´ll have an AC crowded border...

Ack, so I'll have a new RP post by the end of the night, hopefully. If not tonight, then tomorrow. I've had the mob chasing me, so I couldn't really be around long enough to do much of anything! (Okay, so that first part of that sentence was an excuse, but the latter part was legit!) haha anyway, sorry to be the one holding up progress, here. My bad...

A little bit of recap, for those who weren't around when Imatron was actively posting (which is nearly everybody):

Imatron played as a colony of a super-advanced, utopian civilization from outside this galaxy. All of his characters were genetically engineered to have perfect looks and health, all of them manifested psychic and magical powers that made them easily superior to others, and all of them carried around fancy tech that made their lives carefree and convenient. This wouldn't be a problem but for the fact that they also spent every waking moment of their lives gloating loudly about these things to anybody within earshot, which was everybody since he had a habit of describing other players' characters as being totally awed and impressed by Imatronian tech whether those players wanted this to happen or not.

Since Imatron is not around anymore, I'm portraying his country in the manner that I believe follows naturally from his posts: A society that is totally acclimated to having all of its problems easily solved by the latest technological marvel or psychically Awakened whiz-kid. A society in which every citizen is wired into the virtual reality "Net" from a ridiculously early age. A society that is essentially predatory, growing rich by selling its tech to unsophisticated local rubes who then become dependant upon it and enslaved by debt to the Imatronians who are the only ones who can maintain and replace it. In short, a society with its head in the clouds and its feet trampling over the hopes and dreams of nations that aren't as sophisticated and perfect as it is.

One set of bad guys deserves another. :bloop:

Er...sorry about the overdramaticness. Sartorio will fill in the details with some Convenient Plot Recap in my next post, and he'll make more sense than I just did.

My goodness. I hate it when my work life carries over into my social life. I've been busy trying to get stuff done and out of the way for the Thanksgiving break. Thus, my time has been sacrificed. However, while I'm on my break, I should have more time, and I will be able to carry on where I left off, I hope. Sorry for the delay, guys. Welcome to a day in the life of Gnid! (By the way, I know there are those of you who are busier than I am, and I admire you for finding some way to manage your time better than I.) :D
