indaba explained; In case you do not know what it means

The Essence of Indaba

Indaba is a Zulu word for a gathering for purposeful discussion. It describes both the process and the method of discussion. Although I am not African, I have used indaba techniques many times in my professional management life, and you may be interested to know that it is used at the highest levels in many multinational companies.

Indaba begins by any person - any person - raising issues of concern, which affect the individual or the whole community. An example of this might be "I wish to raise in Indaba that Loop changed my mask, restricting my access to the board" "I wish to raise in Indaba that Flemingovia has been insulting me constantly on our IRC channel."

these may seem small matters, but a principle behind Indaba is "Inkqayi ingena ngenlontlo" (literally: the baldness of the head begins at the temples) in other words, unresolved small matters quickly become large ones, and damage the community.

Indaba is about community life, not simply about issue correction. So we are not just looking for immediate resolution. Indaba would not just mean loop posting in reply "OK, I will change your mask", or Flemingovia posting "If you weren't such a dog turd I would not insult you - learn to live with it". Indaba is about responding to the community challenge of the issues, and asking WHY the situation occurred. The aim is that the culture is changed, or the behaviour is not repeated.

Therefore, in Indaba, there would be questions around the issue, and discussion in which (and this is important) every member has a right to be heard. In indaba, at the end of each meeting, or day, or period, a respected elder would seek to summarise the discussion, honouring each of the voives that have been heard.

Indaba is often an open ended process, but it is a deep one. It does not seek quick solutions that place a band-aid over issues. In TEP we will look to the elders and the warchief for quick strategic decisions where quick decisions are needed. We will look to the Indaba to honour and build our community.

As an OOC aside, one company which used me as a consultant thinks that they saved hundreds of thousands of pounds in reduced staff turnover because of raised morale through Indaba. Sadly, they only paid me the agreed fee!

Imagine how much they could have also saved had they switched to Geico?

Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind.
Geico...humm...Why not Progressive Insurance? I "own" it :P

But that is a nice explanation because the EM would have been lost. But I understand the concept very much. Back in Hyrule, we use to have a House of Members in which everyone of Hyrule was a member etc. Not anymore, replaced with a Senate. xDDDD. *yay EM understands*

This almost seems to mimic the Hive. Why don't we just accept that as the EP governing body?

Yeah, right... Might be subtle, but still is an attempt of assimilation! Points a nuke to Packilvania :)
