And now for the big announcement:

Hello all, I wanted to share with you this clip from Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator, because I feel it could apply to how we interact here in NationStates. I'm not about to say I'm some pious player that is completely innocent, but there are certain common threads in his speech that can vibrate to our tunes as well. The main point is unity, from which all other qualities stem from. I believe The East Pacific should both maintain and rebuff its unity, the same unity we saw when The Empire was removed from power. Truly, united under a common cause - our region - is a very respectable passion, and will move us to become a safer, stronger body. But unity requires three main qualities: respect, equality, and above all, care. From those qualities emanate one key word that we as a feeder region haven't seen in a long time: community. And our community has enough respect, equality, and care to provide for all. Imagine if only… ten more of us in this region realized this truth and decided to work toward it. How much more of a community would we be. No infighting, no pride to fog our vision, no fear of getting involved. Imagine that.

We’re a region of over two thousand nations, with a government comprised of about twenty diligent and dedicated people. This section is for you, the new player who just joined the game and who doesn’t know the first thing about how to “win” or what one can do in this game. I get telegrams like that all the time, only to respond with “join us”. So this is my challenge to you: join our community. Experience how to play the game, make new friends, challenge yourself, get involved and don’t be afraid to ask questions or move your nose into things, because I was once a new player too, and I didn’t get the game, but it wasn’t until I wanted to find things for myself that I was able to get what I wanted out of it. Yet my invitation does not only go out to new players – it goes out to old as well. It goes out to the region members who have been here for months, years and haven’t really become involved. It goes out to those in other regions seeking sanctuary, community, and a chance. It goes out to all who read this. The East Pacific is not a juggernaut, but a place where all can be heard, and all attempt unity. And we are extending a hand out directly to you. Please grab on!

Respect. Equality. Care. Those three words should by rhythmic, constant in our region. But they mean nothing unless they are put into action. I foresee The East Pacific’s destiny as a very large region which can accomplish these goals on a wider scale, for these goals are easy to obtain – the individual must find it in himself or herself to be progressive in order to positively affect the whole. I can’t do this alone. You can’t do this alone. The government can’t even do this alone. Therefore, we must all work together, as a community to rise to our destiny. And we can do it; I have faith in all of us that we can.

I have served as the delegate of this region for over one hundred days now – a short time as far as feeder delegates go. This is not an attempt to ensure I’m re-elected, but more or less a way of broadcasting a goal we can all aspire to even if I’m not. I truly do not have that much power over this region – that power belongs to you, the people. My only job is to maintain your power and use it properly. After all, we are all to be treated equal and remain as such. In lieu of this, I am officially changing The East Pacific delegate title to Chairman, and henceforth will answer to Comrade Todd (among other names that I used to be called, you know, like Todd and the like). Don’t look into this too deeply – it doesn’t have any certain communist nation connotations – I instead wanted a very basic title, because delegate seems too strong to me. I don’t want to sit high on a pedestal or throne – I want to sit with the region, hear the region, work with the region, become the very voice of the region. Comrade is synonymous with companion, or friend. We’re all comrades here, political connotations aside.

We are all only game players, but that shouldn’t stop us from reaching for the stars and working with each other here through respect, care, and equality, emanating from unity, forming the basis of community. Thank you for your time.
