This is the thread for Todd McCloud to use in his campaign.

Campaign Period
This period will last seventy-two hours, starting on July 14th, 2008 at 12:00 am (5:00 am UTC) and ending on July 17th, 2008 at 12:00 am (5:00 am UTC). During this period, candidates will be given their own campaign thread in which they may describe their platform, answer questions proposed by citizens, and overall work out any loose ends.

A couple of extra things about the campaign period:

  • Any citizen may ask any question(s). The candidate holds the right to not answer any question(s) he or she receives.
  • Candidates may continue to answer any questions after the 72 hour window has finished
  • Candidates should refrain from mudslinging, extorting, or harassing other candidates or citizens. Campaign threads which regress into flaming will be locked.

Good day all, welcome to yet another installment of delegate campaigning. I'd love to start my campaigning with outlining what I've done with the promises from my previous campaign. Most real-life politicians would try to avoid this subject, as most politicians bring forth hollow promises to try and woo the people to their side. I am not, nor have I ever been, a fan of that philosophy. Without further ado, here are my promises from six months ago, and what I have done with them:

  • Security - There has not been a region stronger in this department than The East Pacific. Even with such an uncharacteristically high endorsement cap if eighty endorsements, this region has been quite safe from any attacks. Due to my past, no raider even wants to attack The East Pacific. Due to my ability to swap endorsements, any attack on The East Pacific would be futile. In the greater part of the six months I've been elected, I've held the highest endorsement count in all of NationStates. As far as security goes, this is still a very important topic, but a topic well-covered under my tenure as delegate.
  • Dedication and Activity - I don't think there has been one 24-hour period in which I didn't log onto the forums or my nation. There have been various projects I've completed in our region, from re-vamping the Embassy Row, to overseeing two Magister elections, to creating various videos to get people excited about their positions, to hosting a debate contest, to keeping the world factbook entry updated and the regional message board fun and exciting, to getting our image sent abroad to other regions, to continuously telegramming and speaking to nations, to establishing programs such as a "what-if" forum, foreign news forum, and university forum... there are many, many other things I've done to separate TEP from the rest of the forums, making us a fun yet secure region bleeding with democracy and undulating with the words of freedom. While I am a graduate student of polymer engineering, I've made the time and put forth the effort, treating this as a second job, and loving every minute of it.
  • Teamwork - The powers within the region have been balanced, and many very creative, talented people have surfaced within the region as a result of it. An active Magisterium, WA Liaison, Roleplay department, admin team, and capable Conclave have really spread the power across TEP quite well. I am entirely thankful we make a good team here in The East Pacific.
  • Honesty - Quite possibly the most important aspect of any politician. I have been honest with everyone in regards to my past, my plans, my hopes and my fears. That is who I am - I just don't see a need nor a desire to deceive. And I still believe this is quite important, and quite necessary.
  • Creativity - Outlined in the 'dedication and activity' section, for the most part, it underscores my works of creativity and excitement. I have been a slightly unorthodox as a delegate, but one cannot argue with the results. For the greater part of my tenure, this has been apparent, as TEP was for months the most populated feeder. It still remains the most exciting and most active across the regional message boards.
  • Comradely - I have enjoyed speaking to all of you, either through the forums or through PM, telegram, chatzy, etc. Truly, I do not want to be thought of as a delegate (even wrote a speech on that recently, posted on the RMB and forums), but I want to be thought of as a friend, comrade, ally, someone who realizes NationStates, while fun, is also a game in which we interact with player, or *real people*. I don't want to ever forget that. We're only human, after all.
  • A Plan! A Plan! - The plan which I was speaking of was the plan to establish The East Pacific government. Overseen and directed by me, the region has established a strong and stable government, though there are some issues with it, which I will address later on. Overall, this was a huge success, and a huge project which took the greater part of one month to establish, or one sixth of my tenure as delegate.
  • A Happy Region is a Good Region - overall, this too has improved. But if there is one thing I want to increase, it would be this aspect. The excitement of a community and working under a new government has worn off - it's only expected, though. We're stable again. Nevertheless, I believe it necessary to increase the feelings of community, and return to our roots as the strong roleplaying region we once were.
I don't think those points fully outline my first tenure as your delegate. It has been fun, exciting, and above all a lot of work. In addition to both maintaining and hopefully amplifying the promises I made during the first term as your delegate, I have more to offer this time around, something that experience helps tremendously with, as I am now able to figure out better ways to work things out in this region. Allow me to add more to my previous platform, mixing the two together:

Experience
Truly, this is a very strong suit I have. You've been with me for six months now, and I the same with you. We pretty much know how each other works. There's no worries about uncertainties or issues regarding trust. That has pretty much been taken care of for good. Also, overseeing two Magisterium elections and this current delegate election ensures democracy remains fully intact in TEP.

Loyalty
Though my projects and creativity can make me unpredictable at times, I have never placed The East Pacific into the jaws of uncertainty, nor have I ever jeopardized the region with plans to go rogue or move the region into war. The struggles of our region during the empire, of which most of you may remember, is still fresh in my mind, and mustn't be repeated. We are a strong, stable region. Not a perfect region, but one thing remains clear: we do not have to worry about any problems with security. Being among the top-ten in regional influence in TEP only underscores that. Furthermore, I am a citizen of The East Pacific first. I may be involved in other regions from time to time, but TEP has always, and will always, come first. It is my prime responsibility and I cannot falter one bit from that duty. You trusted me and elected me, I want to continue to honor that trust.

Changes in TEP Government, Activities
It is clear that there are very strong points to the government, and some points which could use re-vamping. Working with The Concordat, I want to appoint another Vizier to take over ASBS' untimely absence, work on the Conclave and appointing another Arbiter to the position, work with the Magisterium to assist them in their activity and law-forming process, leading a return to our chatzy chat room, and helping, of course, our roleplaying, which has been somewhat inactive at times (I know this is mainly due to it being summer, but still, I can do what I can to help). While the system is far from broken, little things can be done to keep us working properly and interacting more.

Working with the Game Moderators, [Violet]
I have been working, for quite some time, with [Violet] (the game administrator) and various moderators in improving this game and giving us more tools to stay active and exciting. I know this is somewhat uncharacteristic, but I believe they can help us with many in-game actions, namely helping us bring activity to the forums and keeping nations up-to-date. Of course, things must be put into place to allow for those who don't want to be involved to have their independence and solitude, but I do believe we are on the edge of something great, provided by the game designers.

Creating More Exciting Activities
While some programs haven't truly lifted off the ground yet, others have been successful. The 'what-if' forum has been fun, and the debate contest has been successful (and is ongoing), but I want to do more. I want to be more creative, get more exciting things introduced into our region. Moving forward The University is a must, as well as getting the RMB more spam-free and active. I want to keep TEP's title of 'most creative' and 'most exciting' feeder. I believe I have more tools to make this happen now, and with the annual slow-down of summer drawing to a close along with help from the game programmers, it could very well create a perfect storm of activity and roleplaying prowess in TEP. Clearly, the barrel is not empty by any stretch - we are a very, very talented bunch.

So, with mixing the old with the new, I believe TEP will keep moving forward, not backwards, and maintain its recent bill of respect and admiration our region has enjoyed across NationStates during my tenure and the seemingly endless effort we have put into our region together. Thank you for your time, and I would be happy to answer any questions put forth.

Perhaps it is necessary to list some improvements in and across the region which I hope to expand on if re-elected.

  • A return to the roleplaying aspect in The East Pacific, including a means by which newer nations can feel more involved and get more active. This has historically been our strongest quality, and it would be good to get older nations as well as newer nations together and getting some conflicts going again. Obviously, the annual summer 'down-time' is responsible for a lot of this, but we can still work towards getting more active.
  • An attempt to get back the older nations in TEP. Nations such as ASBS, who have historically been active, talented members in the region have unfortunately CTE or become inactive most likely due to real-life concerns. It would be great to get them involved in the game once again, mixing with the current strong talent we have in the region.
  • A separate forum where members can write / submit / propose any type of article they would like in the regional monthly newspaper. This has been difficult at times, mainly because we've had slow months and months full of activity, but even smaller updates would be feasible.
  • Restoration of some governmental positions such as nominating another Vizier for added security and giving more things to do for the Arbiters and Magisterium in the coming months. With a stable region, sometimes it is hard coming up with resolutions to work with, even more difficult to keep members in government active. We also need a separate committee to handle delegate elections, lol.
  • Improving current and future projects in and around TEP by working together and getting things going again. The Univeristy is one of the first projects I'd like to work on if re-elected, as well as getting some creative topics on the World Factbook Entry together. This will mean I will have to be more creative, but it is a job I both love and respect. This, along with working with the game controllers and allowing mass-telegrams by the delegates will get more people active and aware of all the interesting things in our region.
  • Working toward stronger unity. The toils of inactivity and issues regarding C&C's in the World Assembly has caused issues within our nation. I want to re-establish TEP's strong stance on acceptance and respect for different opinions: despite what happens, we are still a community of nations, but more than that, a community of NSers who work together in the game for a common good.
  • Re-starting Chatzy. This can be easily done through advertising in the WFE and allowing for 'regional meetings' to take place there when the ends justify the means. Furthermore, this could be used as an open forum for the delegate to address the citizens and for the citizens to ask questions / suggest improvments. Still, I believe Chatzy, if used successfully during this next term, could be a powerful tool to get nations involved in our region.
  • Remaining active and entertained can be difficult in a stable region, especially during summer. However, with creativity, strength, and the will to work toward a more active region are the tools to keep the region involved and active, especially across the NationStates' world spectrum.
Thank you for your time, and I will be looking forward to your vote this term!

I have never heard someone say they loved their first job, yet alone a second job! Surely, there are moments you hate it....but that is what made you a great delegate, you transcended those moments and perservered, fighting through the rough times to bring out pleasent times!

Haha, I love both jobs, very much. This is my home, people trust me here, and I am forever thankful they do. It is a very good system we have here, though there are a few minor things we can work for, as stated in earlier posts. But, my experience as a NationStates player and the trust I have earned from citizens in this region is both helpful and invaluable. We did a lot of work because we worked together, and I'd love to keep that relationship going and continue to do great things. There is so much we are capable of, and I feel we've only just begun!

Also, if anyone is interested, here's my contact info. Any personal issues, anything you want to see done in the region, I am more than happy to discuss:

Facebook? Lol, yeah, I have one of those, but I don't really update it often. I get messages when I sign onto Yahoo mail anymore, so maybe I have YIM too, lol.
