<@NewKervoskia> Good evening and good morning I'm New Kervoskia coming to you live from #crossfire on IRC, you're watching NS: Crossfire.
<Todd_McCloud> And boom goes the dynamite
<@NewKervoskia> To my right is the Canuck with the silver tongue - Dalimbar!
<@NewKervoskia> To my left is a man who takes no prisoners - Biyah!
<@NewKervoskia> Our topic tonight - Condemn/Commend Resolutions.
<@NewKervoskia> Biyah you won the coin toss, so you can start us off.
<@Biyah> G’mornin’. What can I say – I read the original proposition for Commend and Condemn, and I thought it might have a gleam of possibility. Nationstates hadn’t been recoded in years, it was past time for some fresh changes. I’m surprised any changes of this measure got through at all; honestly, the Nationstates proper is a quagmire.  Anyway, though not earth-shattering in power, the C&C does give the WA something more to do then fiddle around with perfecting grammar in endless cycles of outrage over how much garbage we’re creating, or the fact that there are so few schools in 3rd world countries, and whatnot. Besides – now we can properly hang a Wanted poster (ala a Condemnation) on the evil bastiches of the world. We've needed that option for years.
<@NewKervoskia> Dali, response?
<@Dali> I would first like to welcome the audience to this first taping of NS Crossfire. However, what is wrong with laissez-faire activities in NS? Look at Influence. A way to regulate how regions and organizations conduct themselves, which has drawn unquestionable damage to the game. Now they want to regulate who can do what, when, where, and why in the classic struggle of invader-defender dynamics.Basically, my opening argument is that the WA as a super-government institution has no right to infringe on the activities of those who are interested in playing the game they want to play, be they defender or invader.
<@NewKervoskia> But can't this new power be used to inject some activity into the game? Otherwise it sounds an awful lot like GV's position.
<@Dali> It is players who have always made this game what it is. The classic struggle of raider vs. defender. ADN vs. PRP. Etc. There is no need to put up more walls to legitimate, though perhaps in some extreme cases questionable, gameplay.
<@Biyah> The WA has been 'interfering' in the activities of those interested since it started, that was the purpose of the WA to begin with. We'd been looking for a way to bring international attention on lawbreakers (or Mother Teresa types) since the start. This is not institutional oversight, the WA is not an elected Big Brother, it's the collective voice of the Regions.
<@NewKervoskia> But haven't organizations always exploited game mechanics to their advantage?
<@Dali> Ah yes, the will of the collective over the individuals rights to conduct the style of play that they wish.
<@Biyah> Yup, it's called Democracy. You should try it sometime.
<@Dali> Try mob rule? Try taking the rights of those who are active and wishing to promote activity in this game and turn them on their head?
<@Dali> Oh, sure, you might not like it, because they don't fit your dogmatic ideology of defenderism. I see now.
<@Biyah> It's only mob rule if there are no directives to govern us - that's why we've instituted a set of standards, ala WA and C&C.
<@Dali> Directives? This world is a minimalist world, designed to allow people to explore every potential they have. Would there be organizations such as the ADN if the AA didn't run around rampant following UN regulations? No.
* Naivetry waves her hand exciedly.
<@Biyah> There would not be a need for heavy defense, if the anarchists of the world werent running wild.
<@NewKervoskia> I think I'm going to field some questions from the audience.
<@NewKervoskia> You, young lady in the back, yes you!
* @NewKervoskia points to Naivetry
<Naivetry> Thanks - this is a question for Dalimbar.  You've said C/C's interfere with players, but what about C/C's prevents people from experimenting with the style of play that they wish?
* Naivetry sits back down
<@Dali> Would you be referring to griefers? Or another potential style of play?
<Naivetry> Any potential style of play.  Liberation resolutions affect griefers, but I don't see how Condemnations and Commendations interfere with anyone.
<@Dali> It's the principle that's at stake. By passing a condemn resolution, for example, the World Assembly is essentially blacklisting the player who is marked forever, or at least until a repeal resolution is passed. It is essentially saying "We don't want your type here, so get lost", which is counterproductive to the essential desire for increased activity in the game.
<@Biyah> On the contrary, even as a condemnation, the WA just passed a resolution saying 'we recognize you've been active, but the bulk of us think you're scum. Keep it up and we'll have reason to do more then simply spit on you."  That leads to its own brand of activity.
<@Dali> Say if I was a new player who was interested in the raiding game. If I see all the high profile members of that particular legitimate community black listed by the sheep in the WA who follows whoever is the loudest, then I might go "Oh... why are they marked? Why should I participate if that's the case?"
<@Biyah> Pfft - you should know better then that. The world is filled with contrary people, who LIKE being condemned. That's why DEN, LWU, the RLA and all those other bastard groups survived so long - they thrive on the negative attention.
<@Dali> Then you might be happier if there was no way to give them attention, then?Instead deal with them the traditional way... kick their asses?
<@Biyah> In addition too, rather. The Condemntation proposal makes for a nice battle-cry AS we kick their asses.
<@Dali> To waste time on dealing with the sheep in the WA community, sure, if you want to take that avenue. However, what do they have to do with our game? Why should they have power to decide who is acceptable and who is not?
<@Dali> Heck, say tomorrow someone organized and passed a Condemn Biyah proposal. Would you be happy?
<@Biyah> Because whether we want it or not, our game touches on theirs. The raiders take their regions, and then the Defenders pile into their region like the US into France during WW2, tearing the place up with celebration dances and wild drinking. We have to throw them some sort of bone, and in doing so, why not give us a tool we can use in return? That depends on why I'm being condemned, I suppose. But this argument is making me want to condemn you, Dear Dali, for crimes against humanity - that tie is unconscionable
<@NewKervoskia> All things aside, the Commend/Condemn is here, so what's its proper role?
<@Dali> To commend the players that the collective loves, and to condemn those they dislike.
<@Dali> :P
<@Dali> Fine, I challenge the audience to either commend or condemn me in the WA.
<@Biyah> I think its role is still being explored. It has the potention to be so much more then a 'I don't like you, but you're awesome' club. Given some time, the C&C could be the front line before more drastic measures, like the Liberation Vote.
<@Dali> I hope it does expand from being a popularity/hate contest, I do admit that.
<@Biyah> Oh, but you so love to be hated Dali, I thought you'd love this. <@Dali> Oh, I'm sorry Mr. I need sunglasses because my bald head is too blinding. I couldn't quite see you there.
<@Biyah> :P
<@NewKervoskia> I'm sexier than both of you so, that's that.
<@Biyah> Especially in that zoot suit - very posh.
<@Biyah> So, now what? Booze and cigars for all?
<@Dali> Good thing I've been drinking before you, my dear Biyah
<@NewKervoskia> Closing remarks?
<@Dali> I win, regardless of if my arguments made sense or not.
<@Dali> Oh yes, and I still challenge the audience to organize either a commend or condemn proposal about me.
<@Biyah> The C&C has some real possibilities - not in the least of which, we can finally make public the fact that Dali is a villian with bad taste. Given some time, I think it has real possibilities, it's a bit light on the 'consequence' side of things right now.
<@Dali> Yes, remember what Lord Rahl did to NS.
<@Biyah> He had good fashion sense, you could learn from him.
<@Biyah> black with silver trim
<@Dali> Made him look kinda pudgy, though.
<@Biyah> yes, well, Anastasia's beard didnt do much for me.
<@NewKervoskia>That's all for tonight, but join us again next week for another edition of NS:Crossfire!
