The MLAs in the lower house have begun to cast their votes to impeach President Im in the light of him using his wife and eldest son to frame outspoken Conservative MLA Darrell Ai Sha in an effort to prevent him from investigating alleged corrupt activities within his administration. The framing of the President has only made matters worse and now the Conservative controlled Lower House are now voting for a resolution to impeach the president. Each major MLA from each party gave their voting intentions for the resolution.

Darrell Ai Sha: 'This is a resolution initiated by myself to impeach a highly opaque and morally deprived administration, that is called the Im administration. The President has spent 4 years trying to game the political system for his own political gains. This is an administration trying to pose as the people's administration when in fact it is carrying the same corrupt practices of the Chen Jong Sun regime. He is arresting people he doesn't like politically and personally, and having them detained without charge for 1 month. It is no better than the Chen regime and this resoution is meant to stop the far-left oligarch system from continuing in one form or another. I expect everyone from my party to vote in favour of this very important piece of legislation.'

Berty He: 'This [resolution] is a simple distraction from the main problems that is gripping our country. The wealth inequality is a serious danger in Bai Lung over this McCarthyite witch-hunt that MLA Ai is trying to continue. Although I think some of the President's policies are flawed, they are vastly superior than Mr Ai's cut taxes for the very rich and slash welfare for the needy. Jobs and the economy should be the main focus in the assembly, not whether the President is an extremely corrupt politician. When his mentor and former Tory leader, Stephen T. Ding, was embroiled in that Johnnie Huang business scandal, Mr Ai strongly defended him. When the subsequent leadership election took place in 2010, Mr Ding rigged the election and was caught red-handed. Again, Mr Ai defended his mentor. The Conservative Party is nothing but a party that consists of basket case MLAs or lunatic MLAs. I will vote no on the resolution.'

Johnnie Ting: 'What can I say here? I strongly condemn the President's practice of using his wife and eldest son to frame a highly vocal member of the opposition. I highly disapprove the President for that. On the other hand, I will not vote for the Tories proposal to impeach the President. Any vote for the Tories resolution is a vote for a Tory victory in the upcoming Presidential election. They are doing it because they want to open the market to the highest outside bidder. We can't allow that. The state has a very important role in the economy and the states knows best when it comes to creating wealth and jobs. I will not be involved in the resolution and neither should the rest of the lower house.'

Voting tally:

For - 290
Against- 215
Abstain - 49

Ultimately, every Labour MLA voted against the resolution while all Conservative MLA voted for. The President has been impeached by the Assembly of Bai Lung for the first time in Bai Lungese political history.

Darrell Ai Sha's reaction to the successful resolution to impeach President Im:

Darrell Ai Sha: 'I'm very pleased with the results. My fellow Conservative colleagues voted for party line, every single one. The Labour Party, unsurprisingly, decided to back this morally corrupt administration. The other minor parties, also disappointed with them. Their abstention basically counts as an indirect vote for the Im adminstration. No matters. The constitution states that it only requres a simple majority to impeach a president in the upper house so if the minor parties in the Upper Senate don't vote, we have enough Conservative Senators who can vote for impeachment.'

While Mr Ai gave his reaction to the sucessful attempt to impeach the President, two other key figures from the opposing side gave their reaction to it.

Berty He: "I am now asking the Labour Senators to avoid the falsehoods that Mr Ai has laid upon the ground. This is a smoke screen which is designed to shift away the real corrupt activities within Mr Ai himself and moving it to the President. The President has never taken part in rigging any election whereas Mr Ai was a key player of the vote rigging in the Conservative leadership election in 2010. He helped Stephen T. Ding by allowing him to tamper with the voting process in order to yield a favourable result for him. I ask my colleagues on the further left of the aisle not to vote for impeachment nor remain neutral. An abstention counts as an indirect vote for the Conservative agenda."

Jonnie Ting: "The Marxist Party will officially adopt a neutral stance in the Im impeachment trials and will not interfere with the process in any shape, size or form. What has the President Im is beyond redemption and the punishment must fit the crime. However, this impeachment trial was started by a hyper-capitalist party that only favour tax cuts for the wealthy and slashing all public services to fund these cuts. The Conservative Party has its own history of corruption such as the Ding leadership election in 2010. The Marxist Party cannot defend either sides and will therefore, maintain a neutral stance in the trials."

Presidential Office Building

After hearing the lengthy statement from Marxist Party leader, President Im found himself stuffed and out of options. Especially after what he did to Mr Ting's predecessor Sun Ju-Bai, he definitely won't vote to acquit the president but he won't vote for the Conservative agenda either. Disillusioned with both major parties, Mr Ting has chosen neither.

Richard Im: "I'm stuffed."

Zhou Minlang: "You can't be entirely out of options, Im. What about the 2/3rd majority rule?"

Richard Im: "Unfortunately, that was a fatal oversight that I have made. The turnout to impeach any high ranking official is only a simple 50+1 majority. I couldn't amend it because of the constant deadlock in the Assembly. So that plan was killed off instantly."

Zhou Minlang: "Persuade the Marxist Party Senators to vote against the impeachment charges."

Richard Im: "Impossible. Especially after what I did to their previous leader, Sun Ju-Bai. He is still under arrest and the current Marxist Party leader has nto forgiven me ever since. He doesn't like the Conservative agenda either. He thinks we are both different sides of the same coin. They plan to abstain throughout. The sole Green Party Senator has vowed to abstain too and the other minor parties like the sole Hat Wearing Society Senator wants to talk about the lack of equality of hat wearers over non-hat wearers."

Zhou Minlang: "Are you ready to resign?"

Richard Im: "Yes, sadly. Promise me that you will take over immediately."

Zhou Minlang: "I will be the next caretaker for the democratic Bai Lung."

Richard Im: "Promise that you'll pardon me and remove all charges against me."

Zhou Minlang: "That's my job."

Richard Im: "Thank you. I will begin the process of resignation and re-locate to my new home in Nordu Dannistraa. You won't hear much from me from now on."

Several reporters scrum towards (arguably) the kingmaker :

Reporter: 'Mr Ting, does your party have any plans to stop a potential Conservative victory or do you want to see President Im impeached? What are you going to tell Marxist Senators on how to vote?'

Jonnie Ting: 'I fully condemn President Im for what he has done but at the same time, I will not condone the agenda of the Conservatives. They are basically the same party with a different name. Bai Lung needs real change and that change has to be extremely rapid. This pseudo two party system is sustainable. I ask fellow Marxist Senators not to interefere with the impeachment trial and to stay away from any voting. I also ask the other non-Conservative and non-Labour senators to follow suit as this trial is nothing but a circus for both parties. At the end of the day, both parties will emerge as the winners and we the common people, will lose out.'

As the impeachment trials is coming closer every second now, the President has now completed his resignation speech. He decided to avoid the impeachment hearings by leaving office and heading his way into the set of luxury apartments in Dannistaan with his wife Celina.

Richard Im: "It is done now, Zhou. Thank you for everything and keep this seat warm."

Zhou Minlang: "I will, Im."

Floor manager: "Eyes on the camera in 3...2...1..."

Richard Im: "In all the decisions I have made during my pubic career, I have always tried to do what was best for Bai Lung and her people. Throughout the long and difficult period of the past 4 years, I have felt it was my duty to persevere, to make every possible effort to complete the term of office to which you elected me. In the past few days, however, it has become evident to me that I no longer have a strong enough political base in the Assembly to justify continuing that effort. As long as there was such a base, I felt strongly that it was necessary to see the process through to its conclusion, that to do otherwise would be damaging to the spirit of the deliberately difficult process and a dangerously destabilising precedent for the forseeable future.

I would've chosen to carry through to the end whatever the personal circumstances it might have involved, and my family unanimously urged to do so. However, it is the interest of the public that should always come first before any personal considerations. From the discussion I have had with the Assembly leaders, I have concluded that because of the most recent Executive decision I have embraced, I might not have the support of the Assembly that I would necessary to back the extremely difficult decisions and carry out the duties of this office in the way the interests of the nation would need.

Quitting is not my top priority as President. To leave office before I finish my term is completed is abhorrent to every bone in my body. But as President, I must put the interest of Bai Lung first. Bai Lung needs a full-time President and a full-time Assembly, particular at this time with problems we face both domestically and internationally. To continue the fight through the months ahead for my personal vindications would almost use up valuable resource and time of both the President and the Assembly in a period when our main focus should be placed on the great issues of peace abroad and prosperity at home. Therefore, I shall resign the Presidence effective before midnight tomorrow. Secretary of State Zhou Minlang will be sworn in as President at that hour in this office.

Thank you. God Bless Bai Lung.

The chopper which took Im away from the Presidential Office Building to someplace unknown has returned back to the POB with Im being the first person to exit from the chopper. Greeting him is his designated successor, Zhou Minlang.

Richard Im: "Have you completed the transaction between you and He?"

Zhou Minlang: "It's done, Lin. He has got the goods, you go back and grab your belongings. I have called the Chief Justice to show up at the POB and the media will be invited to film my inauguration albeit a very brief tenure. I will clean up the mess that Ai Sha caused."

Richard Im: "Thank you, Zhou. You have been always a better cleaner than I am."

Secretary of State Zhou Minlang was now sworn in as President of Bai Lung. Technically speaking, he is not the 2nd President as it only applies to those who were elected. He is unoffically counted as the 2nd however. Former President Im did not attend the inaugration.

Chief Justice Raymond Hong Byu-Chen: 'I, Zhou Minlang.'

Zhou Minlang: "I, Zhou Minlang."

Chief Justice Raymond Hong Byu-Chen: Do solemnly swear.'

Zhou Minlang: "Do solemnly swear."

Chief Justice Raymond Hong Byu-Chen:That I will faithfully execute the Office of the President of Bai Lung.'

Zhou Minlang: "That I will faithfully execute the Office of the President of Bai Lung."

Chief Justice Raymond Hong Byu-Chen:And will to the best of my ability.

Zhou Minlang: "And will to the best of my ability."

Chief Justice Raymond Hong Byu-Chen:Preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Free Republic of Bai Lung.

Zhou Minlang: "Preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Free Republic of Bai Lung."

Chief Justice Raymond Hong Byu-Chen:Thank you.

Hong and Zhou shook hands briefly before there was a modest applause from journalists and various staff.

Some reactions of various people including right-wing commentators:

Quote:

Un-freaking-believable! Zhou has pardoned a criminal. Folks, there is no change in Bai Lung. It is more of the same old, same old. Every president will follow the same corrupt policies because they are backed by the corrupt socialist oligarchs in Bai Lung. We need to get rid of them and promote individual liberties, the tenets that made our nation so brilliant.

Quote:

We must impeach the new president because he is a stooge of the Im administration. In fact, it is still the Im administration who is now working under the shadow of the Zhou administration.

Quote:

He [Zhou Minlang] could be a communist agitator. He is serving his Marxist masters.

A Bai Lungese elder, who is a lifelong Labour supporter, has now shown his disgust for President Zhou's decision to pardon Richard Im,

Quote:

'I have been a lifelong registered member of the Labour Party. They were the party of the people, the common people. The one who created the backbone of this nation, the ones who generated the wealth. Ever since President Zhou had pardoned Im, the serial offender of the nation. He has brought this country into disrepute! I will no longer support the causes of the Labour Party and will pledge my allegience to C.Y Liang in the up coming election.'

As President Zhou exited out of the Presidential Office Building, he faced a barrage of people who were asking him question as to why he pardoned a highly corrupt former president. They asked questions like 'Why did you pardon President Im' and 'President Zhou, who are you going to acquit next?'. Someone from the mob lept forward and lobbed a handful of eggs at Zhou's direction. Only one of them hit him in the right shoulder.

Protester: 'TRAITOR! TRAITOR! YOU SOLD US OUT! YOU HAVE THE BLOOD OF IM'S LEGACY ON YOU! SHAME ON YOU!'

The protester was arrested promptly and escorted out of the premise.

One day before the 2012 Presidential election takes place. The winner gets to serve a five year term, with a possibility of renewing that term only once. The three major candidates are Independent Conservative Liang Cheng-Ying (AKA C.Y Liang), Conservative and current Prime Minister Frederic Lin and Labour Berty He. There was supposed to be a fourth candidate who was a Marxist candidate but he was arrested for taking part in the Chen Jong Sun birthday parade and the deadline to place forward another candidate has expired.

The Marxist Party and other leftists have vowed not to support any of the three candidates because of their flawed backgrounds. Liang because he is seen as a vote for the Tories, Lin because of his corporate friendly ties with lobbyists and He because of his staunch defense for the corrupt former President Im. The Marxist Party have called people to write down 'Sun Ju-Bai' instead, the former leader of their party.

Both Liang's and Lin's camps have released scathing attack ads of He, depicting him as a stooge of the Im administration.

BERTY HE HAS SAID IN MARCH THIS HE WOULD APPROVE A BILL WHICH WOULD MAKE TAX INCREASES AN EXECUTIVE ORDER. PRIME MINISTER LIN WILL KEEP TAX POLICY A LEGISLATIVE MATTER.

BERTY HE WOULD GRANT UNLIMITED PARDONING POWERS TO ALMOST ANY CONVICTS. PRIME MINISTER LIN WOULD CURTAIL ANY PARDONS BY PASSING SUCH RESOLUTIONS TO THE ASSEMBLY OF BAI LUNG.

BERTY HE SUPPORTS SLASHING THE MILITARY WORKFORCE BY 60% IN THE YEAR 2018. PRIME MINISTER LIN SUPPORTS ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO THE DEFENSE BUDGET BY 25% STARTING FROM THE FISCAL YEARS 2013-2014.

THE PRIME MINISTER WILL ALSO SIMPLIFY THE TAX CODE, STRENGTHEN PENSIONS AND BRING THE BUDGET INTO A SURPLUS.

BERTY HE. NOT THE PRESIDENT OF THE PEOPLE. VOTE PRIME MINISTER LIN FOR PRESIDENT.

THIS MESSAGE WAS APPROVED BY THE ELECT LIN CAMPAIGN

WHAT HAVE BERTY HE AND PRIME MINISTER FREDERIC LIN HAVE IN COMMON?

BOTH VOTED IN FAVOUR OF LOOSENING UP OF WIRE-TAPPING MEASURES.

BOTH VOTED IN FAVOUR OF SLASHING TRANSPORTATION FUNDS BY OVER 50%.

BOTH VOTED IN FAVOUR OF SUBSIDISING THE FAILED FANG CON TELEPHONE.

BOTH WOULD FAVOUR INCREASING THE NUMBER OF HIGH COURT JUSTICES WHO ARE FAVOURABLE TO THEIR JOB KILLING PROGRAMS.

LIN AND HE. TWO DIFFERENT FACES FROM THE SAME COIN. VOTE C.Y LIANG.

As the 2012 Presidential election dominates virtually dominated the Bai Lungese media, the three main candidates are seen casting their votes at their local polling station. Each of them gave a quick comment to the cameras as they exit of the station and return to their respect party HQs.

Berty He: 'This is a vote for democracy in Bai Lung and it is my duty as a pubic servant to uphold these core values in Bai Lung.'

Prime Minister Lin: 'I hope this turns out well. I'd like to thank my campaign team for the hard work they have produced in the last year. They are a tremendous bunch, they have shown themselves to be valuable members of the team and I couldn't be able to make my Presidential campaign without their support. Thank you.'

C.Y Liang: 'I hope I can win and that's all I have to say.'

Jonnie Ting, the current leader of the Marxist Party, has appealed to the public not to cast their votes for either of the 3 main candidates, instead calling for the public to cast a spoiler vote in protest of the candidates, calling all 3 of them indistinguishable from the other.

Jonnie Ting: 'I am now asking for the public to eschew the 3 fatally flawed choices of Lin, Liang and He. They shown themselves to be ideologically identical to each other. The only main difference between these three is how they approach that set-in-stone ideology. Lin wants A to Z directly, Liang want A to Z but jumping back and forth and He starts A to Z with Z coming first. There are no difference between them. I ask the public to instead write down 'Sun Ju-Bai' on their ballot papers and if we get enough of them, we can break the deadlock in Bai Lungese politics.'

Political commentary from BLCTV News:

With 20% of total votes counted, Prime Minister Lin still has a narrow lead over C.Y Liang by 1.5% points. Lets look at the scores.

Berty He - 5%
Frederic Lin - 47%
C.Y Liang - 45.5%
Invalid - 2%

It is now clear that this is now a two man race between Mr Liang and PM Lin for the top job. Labour candidate Berty He has absolutely no chance of winning the presidency now as both Conservative candidates have spent the past month connecting Mr He to the Im administration and his alleged past corrupt activites in the past.

This is the most exciting and the most polarising election in recent years. Voters have a choice between a mainstream Conservative candidate of Lin, the grassroots Conservative of Liang and of course the Labour candidate He. To those who are tuning in, you are watching BLCTV News Special Election coverage, giving you full on updates of the Presidential Election.

I have been informed that PM Lin has officially claimed victory in the south. With 99% of the votes reporting in that area, he has won 54% of the vote to Liang's 38%, followed by He's 6%. The remaining 2% were invalid votes.

Last year, then-President Im and the Conservative controlled Lower House has agreed to amend the Constitution which would have introduced an electoral college system from the next Presidential election but the High Court struck down that provision. So the this election will be a contest of popular votes.

Unimpressed, the Left Coalition Front has openly declared the 2012 Presidential election to be invalid because of the fact that the 8% of people had voted for the Marxist Party but it was not counted as a write in vote but instead as an invalid vote.

They have called for the High Court Justices to either accept the 8% of the votes as a write in or start the Presidential election from scratch.

Quote:

'This Presidential election is nothing more than a false election. The body who presides over this election has chosen to dismiss the 8% of voters who chose not to vote for the status quo and instead opted for a true alternative, had their votes wasted because they said so. We ask the High Court judges to accept the 8% of the votes as a write in or we have no choice but to start from scratch again. This is a slap to democracy and this rule was set up by people claiming that they are standing up for democracy. Shame on them and shame on the justices!'

Members of the far-leftist group The Left Coalition had sent a letter to each other three main Presidential candidates. It was a template letter with only the name of the recipient being altered for each letter.

Quote:

Dear Mr Liang/He/Lin,

This is election is a scam. You are aware that there are no rules which stipulate that the 2012 Presidential election can't have write in votes, neither find in the Bai Lungese Constitution. This is gospel truth, not an internet generate rumour. Please support the Left Coalitions efforts to recognise the 8% of the invalid votes as a write or we have no choice but to appeal to the High Court and invalidate the entire results and to start from scratch.

Yours Sincerely,

The Left Coalition.
