With the next round of three-month Magisterium elections coming up soon, I am reminded of a number of issues that will likely be concerns in the next round of six-month Delegate and Viceroy elections. I would like to bring them up and resolve them now, before they compete for our attention with the outcomes of said elections. First, the Delegate mask currently has access to the Admin control panel (and this forum). The arguments against this have already been made by various people elsewhere, but since it wasn't the actual thread topic I shall try to summarize them here. While anyone elected to become Delegate has great trust within the region, Admins are invested with a different kind of trust. What we ask of our Delegates is leadership and representation within the game. It is not reasonable to expect them also to be the core of an active admin team, especially since we already have one. Nor is it conducive to smooth elections to have them be by default an election for forum admin; in addition to the question of whether someone can be trusted with the ban button, the greater question of whether a candidate can be trusted with the survival of the forum community is also on the table. It adds an unnecessary and unwelcome tension to our elections, and so it ought not to be there. In addition, the Viceroy position is in charge of admitting and naturalizing citizens. This entails giving people Citizen masks, requiring constant Admin actions. Right now, this is not a problem because the Viceroy position is held by a forum admin. However, I will not always be Viceroy; indeed, I should be out of the position by the next election (unless there is truly no one else on the Conclave who wants the job). I do not believe that the Viceroy position should come with Admin powers any more than the Delegate position should, largely for the same reasons. My recommendation is that both of these masks should be without Admin power. However, they should be able to see and post in this forum. Delegates and Viceroys should have a free hand in making requests for Admin actions, since they will require them so often. Since we cannot be certain of any one Admin being on on any given day, they should be able to post requests to the entire Admin group and hear Admin concerns here. What do you think? |

This seems like a fair action to me. Regarding admitting citizens, I'm sure the Viceroy can post requests for forum permissions here, after officially admitting a citizen. |
