Taisyia nodded. "Now that you mention it, Listonia's leader has been acting sort of strange lately."

Sam nodded as he waved too. "Hope this helps with my relations with Vekaiyu's military." He too was keeping his smile to a minimum as well, knowing how serious this parade was.

Taisyia then whispered to the Kral Commodore, "There's been a lot of talk about Vulshain selling Hind gunships to you. You will not be disappointed in their strengths on the battlefield when you get them. I owe my life to many Hind pilots and gunners during Vulshain's Civil War."

Nevikalu smiled. "If they do the job, ma'am, that's fine by me."

More warheads rolled off Yeskuviyey Street, only to give way to a large collection of katyusha rockets. While the public was assured all warheads, missiles, and other projectiles were duds, it was assumed they could be used either as explosive force and laying waste to miles of terrain in front of them, or used to lay waste to thousands of soldiers in front of them in the form of some chemical gas. This was even more prevalent when Vekaiyu lined the newly-formed 98th infantry division directly behind the rockets. They were wearing the new NBC uniforms that had started production in late 2010. While definitely not fancy or impervious, the uniforms offered moderate protection while at the same time not restricting movement.

"This is how Vekaiyu's armed forces should be," Ler Commodore Lebivistre commented to Ikrisia. "We used to call ourselves cyclones. We march in. It is the other government's job to ensure civilians are moved out of the area, not ours. Otherwise it is merely a natural disaster. They do not blame those on cyclones." He smiled.

Ikrisia gave a nod. "There's a balance. But I've been involved in combats where they physically tried to use civilians as shields and distractions."

Sam listened to the conversation while he looked at the Vekaiyun NBC suits. "They look okay, but they're nowhere near as good as our CBAs. Theirs doesn't look like it could stand up to small arms fire." When Sam heard the Ler Commodore's comment that it was the other side's responsibility to ensure civilian safety, his fists clenched as he glared at the Vekaiyun. He whispered to the Ler Commodore in a very serious and angry tone, "In my experience, it is the duty of all soldiers, regardless of what side they're on, to ensure the welfare of all civilians. That's what separates true soldiers from common thugs and terrorists."

Lebivistre smiled. "That is what I would expect to hear from someone who has never been in a battlefield." He crossed his arms and watched as more Vekaiyun soldiers marched below them.

Sam smiled. "Actually, Ler Commodore, I did serve on the battlefield. If I hadn't why and how would I be wearing a uniform? I fought in the 2003-2006 Vulshainian Civil War and by the time the war ended I held the rank of Captain. I fought in many of my nation's fiercest battles and I was a POW for several months before I successfully escaped." Sam grinned as he asked, "How else do you think I got these medals?" Sam pointed to the almost twenty medals decorating his uniform.

The Ler Commodore chuckled. "Medals? Rankings? Is that what war has become these days? Performance measured by titles and tin?" He shook his head. "War is not that. Not that in the slightest. On the battlefield, everyone is the same type of fodder. Medals and titles... apparently they give one respect. But it means nothing, nothing when it comes to battle. I have seen inept officers as much as I've seen inept troops. What separates the bad from the good is not badges, but character. Skill. The unseen aspects of combat. What does not happen; what is prevented. That, I am afraid, cannot be measured."

Sam glared at the Ler Commodore. "Really? While I agree with you, you must understand that every soldier I fought with and lead during Vulshain's Civil War fought with honor and courage. When I was in command of soldiers, I never left a single comrade behind. In fact, if you want, I could even show you where I got shot when I saved several members of my unit during the Battle of Silverwald." Sam grinned.

His family members looked at him in shock. "Um....Sam, I don't know if that's a good idea," Taisyia said.

Lebivistre turned to him and look the king up and down. "My point still stands," he replied in his typical short-and-detached annunciation. "No soldier is to hide behind titles and medals, as you did only moments ago. Any man or woman can wear a medal. The true badges are on one's... very soul. Good, and bad."

Ikrisia's ears twitched. "Is that why your division was the least decorated out of the spread?" she asked with a wry smile.

Ler Commodore Lebivistre cracked a smile. "I often told them their reward was to live another day."

Sam smiled. Before he could say anything, his sister, Cecilia spoke up. "Ler Commodore you really don't want my brother to drop his pants right here. He got shot in the ass and tail during the Battle of Silverwald."

"And I still continued to go back and rescue my comrades," Samuil added.

Taisyia added, "I mean no offense Ler Commodore, but my brother was one of the defenders of Wolfston, where he and many of our comrades held off a two-week siege."

Natalka added, "And I took part in Battle of Winterwolf Meadow against remnants of the Republican Regime armored divisions."

Cecilia also added, "All of us took part in many of the fiercest battles in our nation's civil war."

The Queen Dowager sighed. "I'm surrounded by little toy soldiers." She cleared her throat. "Premier Levinile, I don't believe that the Ler Commodore meant any insult on purpose, but I don't appreciate his snid remarks questioning my grandson's combat experience and courage."

Ikrisia turned to the Ler Commodore as he maintained a stern facade.

"I am not questioning anything," he responded slowly. "I am saying a soldier is not measured by medals and titles, but how he fights. I do not care to hear about personal war stories - everyone has them and they are best told over a few drinks. But the fact that this conversation has turned so... defensive leads me to suspect their level of comfort has been shaken."

Kral Commodore Nevikalu shrugged. "I was a desk jockey for a few years. But I kicked Maxist behind when it counted. I don't want to be in a measuring contest of parts. I just want to fight when I have to."

The Queen Dowager finally had enough. "Ler Commodore, you are treading on thin ice." She turned to Ikrisia. "Your Ler Commodore clearly has no respect for others. My grandson earn his medals and ranks with blood and sweat. He earned them by proving himself on the battlefield under heavy fire. I do not appreciate him disrespecting my grandson."

Sam glared at the Ler Commodore. "I fought with both skill and honor on the battlefield." He turned to Kral Commodore and nodded. "I agree. I hadn't wanted to make this into a contest, but some people," he glanced at the Ler Commodore, "seemed to want to. Anyhow, I did what I had to do to protect my nation from those who would see it destroyed."

Ikrisia winced as she shut her eyes and pressed her hand to her face. '"Are we really doing this?" "Enough," she finally replied. "He's trying to prove a point. Don't take it personally." Ikrisia paused to again give a solemn wave to the crowd.

"Medals and titles do not make the soldier," Lebivistre repeated as he gazed out to the Vekaiyun sailors marching by. "This country has never had a good history of handing out such comforts anyway."

Sam gritted his teeth. "Let it go Sam. The Ler Commodore is a jerk. He probably doesn't understand what we went through."

Sam nodded. "You're right, Taisyia. I'll let it go. Besides, he's an ass."

The Queen Dowager whispered to Ikrisia, "I apologize for our reactions, but you must understand: Vulshain went through hell during that damn war. So, when one questions one of our soldiers' experience, we tend to overreact some."

Ikrisia had enough. She had no reason why their entire group was taking offense at the Ler Commodore's statements. The man was much older than most of the decorated men and women in Vekaiyu and had been chosen by her specifically due to his experience and successes to lead their nation's defense.

"He's not even questioning your experience!" she finally replied, right before the Ler Commodore was ready to open his mouth. "If anything he's questioning the way our previous regime handled things by awarding loyalty over skill... which is exactly why he was kept in his position for about fifteen years while other less-experienced people were hired above him. Heck, they even hired me over him!"

Lebivistre stepped forward to interject, slightly embarrassed that the premier was defending him. "Please, milady. It is fine. I am aware my personality is very abrasive. It is who I am, and who I always will be. I would be willing to leave if it meant this delegation could be present under more stable conditions."

Ikrisia eyed him. "No. You will stay. This is exactly what the old Vekaiyu was like... we are the new Vekaiyu." She turned to the queen. "I am sorry. But under Selvala McEva I saw time and time again her ruin progress because she became offended, when if she would have just listened, even if the opinion was wrong." she paused. "Then our nation would be in a better place."

Sam nodded and bowed slightly to both Ikrisia and the Ler Commodore. "I apologize to both of you. I let my emotions get the best of me. You must understand that we Civil War veterans fought with everything we had and we tend to get emotional about what happened. A lot of people died including my own parents, so not many of us like to talk about it. So you must forgive our overreacting. And like you Ler Commodore, I believe a soldier should be rewarded on his actions in the heat of battle. And Ler Commodore, I might have a few drinks with you. It would be nice to talk with a fellow soldier. My treat. And...."

Sam's guard whispered something in his ear. Sam cursed in Russian. He then asked, "Premier Levinile, how much is left of the parade? I'm afraid we are needed in Vulshain. Things are not looking good back home."

"Well we will have the remainder of the navy division pass, then the 52nd airborne division, and finally wrapping up with some more false ballistics from the 41st." She paused to look up at the Ler Commodore, who said nothing. "And of course you may leave if you have matters to attend to. Don't feel like you have to stay here."

Sam nodded. "Thank you Premier Levinile, and Ler Commodore." He bowed slightly to him. "I apologize again for my overreacting. When the time comes, I hope you will come visit my nation. And Premier Levinile..."

Sam looked into her eyes as he tugged at his collar. "Um....I want to thank you so much for allowing me to visit you and your great nation. I only wish I didn't have to leave so suddenly, but I'm afraid...Well, things aren't looking good. And...Um...."

Sam took a deep breath and exhaled. He then suddenly kissed Ikrisia on the cheek. "That's for letting me get to know my father's homeland. Goodbye and take care now, and may St. Aiya watch over you and Vekaiyu." Sam and the rest of the Vulshainians, with the exception of the Vulshainian ambassador, quickly left but not before bowing slightly to their hosts. The Queen Dowager turned around and said to Ikrisia, "And may the Den Mother watch over you and your country, Premier Ikrisia Levinile." The Queen Dowager bowed slightly before leaving.

Ikrisia gave a slight nod, believing the interaction was only cultural. "I understand. It was good to see our allies to the north." She gave appropriate bows to the king and the queen, and watched as they departed. Turning to her Ler Commodore, then her Kral Commodore, who were both watching the parade as an air force division marched passed.

She suddenly realized the ambassador to Vulshain was also there. While it was peculiar that their entire party left, she wondered if there was something wrong between their relations for them to leave so abruptly. He did say 'things aren't looking good', but there wasn't really any clear indication if he was talking about an external situation or their relations. Turning to him, she asked, "If you don't mind me asking, what is the nature of the departure?"

Donát Lyov, ambassador to Vulshain continued to watch the parade, representing His Majesty while he dealt with the crisis back home.

When the Vekaiyun Premier asked why the King had to leave so suddenly, Lyov answered, "I'm afraid that there have been reports of riots back in Vulshain. There were those who were unhappy with the results of the elections for the new Royal Speaker of Parliament. There are some who were angry that His Majesty was accused of trying to tamper with the elections, but that is impossible as the Monarch is unable to vote. While there's nothing to prevent His Majesty from voting, it is seen as unconstitutional since the Monarch of Vulshain must be outside of any single party, which keeps the Crown above the temporary squabbles of the political parties. This carries over to the other members of the royal family. The monarch and his family must be neutral when it comes to political parties, regardless of their personal political views."

He went back to watching the last members of the air force division march by before continuing. "It is hope that the King's presence will help to restore some order. King Rainard is well-loved by the people of Vulshain. Hopefully, he can talk some sense into the masses and resolve this before things get out of hand."

He then added, "I do worry, however. That the riots may have been started by our enemies, both foreign and domestic, in order to destablize our country. There are some who believe that the Maxists had a hand in some of the bombings that took place early in the 2003-2006 Vulshainian Civil War, of course, we never found any evidence to prove such theories."

Ikrisia decided to ignore the rumors. "Riots are very difficult to maintain and often don't resolve themselves easily, especially in the face of reason. The whole groupthink takes over and people just act out of line. It seems many nations around are realm are rioting these days..." she trailed off and continued to watch as the parade started to draw to a close.

The ambassador nodded. "That is true. However, the Monarch of Vulshain is viewed as a symbol of our nation. King Rainard is loved by many, and he has brought a lot of good to Vulshain, so it is hopeful that many will listen, but there will certainly be those who will refuse to listen. Like I said, I fear that our enemies are trying to destroy our nation. In my opinion, the most likely culprit is Rygard. They are a nation founded on intolerance and warmongering. It is a wonder that they haven't destroyed themselves."

He then added, "The problem with riots in one country is that it spreads like wildfires. I fear that if these riots get out of hand, the East Pacific may see the Second Vulshainian Civil War, and this one may destroy our nation...forever."

Nighttime...Halfway between Vulshain and Vekaiyu

Aboard Confederate Force Alpha-Omega...

Anatansya Olekalexein watched in horror as a grim reaper-like figure slashed through her family. The grim reaper grinned at her. He then ripped his skull to pieces, revealing the head of Merrill Rivers. "Guess what? You're going to die alone! The Grim Reaper has come to town! Muhahahahahaha!"

------------------------------------------

The Queen Dowager awoke in a cold sweat, panting. She looked around her. She soon realized that she was sitting in the Confederate Force Alpha-Omega flying back to Vulshain. It was nighttime. She didn't bother looking at a clock to see what time it was. She looked at her grandchildren who were all sound asleep. Natalka and Cecilia were sleeping next to each other, their heads resting against one another. Cecilia's ear twitched. Natalka, still asleep, scratched her sister's ear. A moment later, her ear twitched, which caused Cecilia, still asleep as well, to scratch it too. Taisyia had drawn her legs up into her seat, snoring softy.

Anatansya looked over at her grandson who had fallen asleep while typing a speech out on his laptop. Anatansya had never understood why leaders needed such things like computers. When she was Queen, she just winged it, and she did just fine. She felt that speeches had to come from the heart and soul, and not done like a movie script that was just rehearsed. She quietly got up and went over. She closed the laptop, remembering to turn the volume down on it as well as save her grandson's work before turning it off. She put the computer away in its case before putting a blanket on Sam. She brushed aside a lock of hair from his eyes. She smiled. She went back to her seat.

She sighed. She had lost many loved ones over the years. First her parents, then her husband, and finally her own daughter. She had almost lost her grandchildren. She wiped a tear from her eye as she whispered, "Den Mother, please let me stay with them for a little longer." Anatansya went to sleep, trying to banish the nightmares that plagued her.

She looked at a clock before drifting off to sleep...only a few more hours before they arrived in Kitsuniva...

"Wish we didn't have to come home to riots and protests," Sam said as he waited for the rolling stairs to be set up so he could get off the plane. His family were here as well. He only hope that he could talk some sense into everyone.

Sam exited the plane. He saw that the majority of the people were supporters of the monarchy. There were a few anti-monarchy protesters, but not many to worry about it. He saw soldiers, C-SAT commandos, Confederate Marshals, Royal Protectors, CPGs, and police officers. He smiled as he waved to everyone.

The cameras started flashing. Then....

BANG!

Sam felt it hit his right arm. A CPG saw him grabbed his arm and saw the blood beginning to stain his sleeve. Sam felt odd. He felt weak....dizzy. "What's wrong...It was just a bul...let..." He collapsed, falling down the steps. Luckily, it was only three steps.

The attack and Sam being shot was broadcast around the world. Viewers watched in horror as a a puddle of blood began to form around the fallen king.

"The King's been hit! The King's been hit! Protect His Majesty!"

Armed men wearing ski masks opened fire on the Royal Family. Soldiers and police officers opened fire on the terrorists and assassins. "Get the Royal Family out of here!"

CPGs and Royal Protectors shielded the Royal Family, shoving them as gently but quickly as they could into the armored limo. The entire limo, right down to the windshield, was bulletproof. A soldier and Confederate Marshal quickly got Sam into the limo as well. "Drive! Drive! Get the fucking hell out of here!"

The driver slammed on the gas, causing the wheels to smoke as the limo flew like a bat out of hell as an armed military and police escort followed. One of the police cars ran right over one of the attacking terrorists. The officers paid little attention to that. Besides, one less terrorist the world had to worry about.

The flashing blue and red lights and sirens of the blue, silver, and black police cars filled the air as they, BTR-90 APCs, and GAZ-2975 Tigrs escorted the limo, while the terrorists were being defeated by the soldiers and police at the airport.

Sam was wheezing. "What's wrong with him?"

Taisyia began to work on the bullet wound. She used a knife, trying to get the bullet out. "I'm sorry, Sambo, I'm sorry this hurts," she said, calling him by his childhood nickname.

"It's..." he groaned, "...okay, Taisyia. This isn't the first time you had to dig a bullet of me." She nodded. She wasn't a field medic during the Vulshainian Civil War, but she knew enough first aid to keep someone alive until they could get Med Evac in. She had saved a lot of lives because of that. It was because of that she had been awarded the White Cross of St. Dakinina, the first Lobo Vayan Catholic saint who was known for kindness and selflessness in treating the sick and injuried. Taisyia gritted her teeth as she dug the bullet out, her hands covered in her brother's blood. She sighed as she took the bullet out. Then, her eyes widened. "Oh God no..." She was looking at the bullet. The bullet was no ordinary bullet. It was an injector bullet, designed to inject a victim with poison upon entering the person's body. She saw the syringe needles sticking out of the bullet. "He's been poisoned."

Sam tried to talk, but he began to tremble. "Oh Den Mother! He's going into shock! Get us to a hospital now," Cecilia ordered.

"Way ahead of you," the driver responded. They headed for the Kitsuniva Veterans' Memorial Hospital, one of the best hospitals in the Velra Province. The driver had to slam on the brakes to keep from driving through the front door. One of the CPGs had radioed the hospital to be ready for their arrival. Medical personnel were there waiting with a rolling stretcher. They quickly got Sam on the stretcher and immediately went into the hospital. "He's going to shock! Damn! He's having a freaking heart attack!"

"Get me a crash cart stat!" The doctor yelled, "Clear," as he tried to keep the king's heart from failing. "Clear!" He managed to keep the heart pumping on the second jolt. "His pupils are constricting!"

"He looks like someone who's been a victim of sarin poison! Get me atropine and pralidoxime ready to be administered at once!"

"He's twitching! He's twitching!"

"I thought victims of sarin poisoning lose all bodily functions and start vomitting!"

"They do! Quick! Administer the antidotes! NOW!"

The doctors and medical personnel began to give Sam the antidote.

"Is he okay?" The Queen Dowager asked. The doctor she asked looked a little annoyed, but remembering who was talking to him, he answered as politely as he could.

"We won't know until the antidotes start taking effect. Please wait outside. We're doing everything we can."

The president greeted the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers in a jovial mood.

"- I take it, that you understand why I called you here?"- the president asked.

"-Yes."- answered Radics, the Minister of Foreign Affairs- "Although I should point out, that the king is not dead yet."

"-I know,"- the president said with a sour expression- "and the way my luck goes, he will manage to recover. That anachronism thinks that just because he was thwacked in the head by a crown he has become the gendarme of the world."

"-If anything, he will die from terminal naivety."- the Chairman noted.

"-Well, at any rate, he will be incapacitated for a considerable time. Which means, that the riots will continue. The government has already lost a lot of its popularity, and if pressed enough, it will have to resign. If the king dies, then the whole political system will collapse, since only the popularity of king Renard kept it together. If he survives, his eye will be finally opened, and he will see, that he is not as popular, as he thought so. The fool thinks he can neglect his country by traveling around, doing nothing."

"-Comrade president, if I may?"-said Radics.

"-Yes?"

"-What official course should we take?"

"-We will say nothing, unless he dies. Then we will of course send our <sincere> condolences."

The doctor came out. "I have some good news and some bad news. Good news: We have been able to stabilize him and keep the poison from spreading. We managed to slow it down to a crawl with some nanohealers, even they're having some trouble with this poison. And bad news: We've only managed to hold back the poison. My guess is that eventually the poison will kill him in about four days, that being the worse case scenario."

"I see. May we see him?"

The doctor shook his head. "I'm sorry but no. We have him sleeping to keep the poison from spreading. If only we had the actual poison itself, we could create an antidote and save His Majesty."

"Thank you," the Queen Dowager replied.

"Um...I think you should know..." He looked around and whispered to her, "The poison seems to be similar to that killed Boris Stevenson back in '94. Not sure if that helps but an DIEIS agent told me not to tell you that. Not sire why."

The Queen Dowager nodded. She was starting to see the pieces of the puzzle coming together. She thanked the doctor and the hospital staff. "We'll keep you up to date on his progress." She nodded her thanks. Meanwhile, the gears in her head were turning.

Anatansya Olekalexein paced around the room, her mind going over everything she knew. She knew that Boris Stevenson was a very loud and vocal critic of DIEIS when she was Monarch. He had approached her with a proposal to limit DIEIS' power, making it a subordinate of the MMID. However, before he could give her the documents, he had been murdered by what DIEIS believed was a mob hit, since Boris was extremely tough on organized crime. At the time, she had believed it, but the doctor's words began to peel away the story.

"The fact that Boris was killed by the same poison that is threatening my grandson's life raises a lot of questions. Not to mention, why would DIEIS specifically tell the doctor not to mention that? Unless..."

The Queen Dowager stopped and thought hard before resuming her pacing. "DIEIS was not very pleased when my grandson called for reforms to made. He threatened to use his royal constitutional powers to see that it was done. Many of the parties, except for the Conservatives and a few Federalists, were behind Sam. Even the Communists and Socialist parties were in favor of the bill. Kauffman was the one who submitted the proposal to the Royal Congress, and he's a member of the Green Party! Then, reports of corruption and even DIEIS agents going rogue start appearing. Some of those rogue agents were indeed blackhearted spies, but some of them appeared to be unlikely mercenaries. Some of them even tried to reach the media, but before they could, they disappeared or suffered terrible accidents....or were they really accidents to begin with?"

Anatansya's proverbial light bulb came on at once. She had a CPG and a Royal Protector take her to the VCNMN Office Building.

There, the staff were surprised but overjoyed to have the Queen Dowager visiting them. She smiled at them and thanked them for their kind welcome. "I must see the recording of the recent attack on my grandson, Samuil Rainard."

The staff were confused but were eager to assist. Anatansya was led to a recording/video editing room. The man helping her was a well-rounded middle-aged human man named Steve Hill. "I'm not sure why you want us to show you it, but who am I to refuse the Queen Dowager. And if it helps out, hey, I'm behind you 200%, Your Majesty."

"Thank you Mr. Hill." They watched the recording. As her grandson walked down the stairs, she said, "Pause it right there."

Hill paused the recording. "That's when he was shot."

She looked at the paused video. "Were there any cameras behind him or facing his back?"

"Of course! VCNMN has a policy to try and get all of the angles. It is very good for documentaries and stuff, or so I've been told." The Queen Dowager simply nodded, paying no attention to the rest of what he said. Hill put in some tapes, until he found the one he was looking for. "OKay, this one here we didn't use as there was a little bit of a glare from the camera flashes. I can try and lower it, but I can't promise you much." He did some.

"Can you slow it down?"

He nodded. He played the recording in slow motion. "Hey, there's the shooter!" A few reporters and staff came in when they heard him. Anatansya Olekalexein rolled her eyes. She didn't more people snooping, but it was too late now. "Can you enhance the image?"

"Yes---"

"Just do it." He nodded and did so. The image became clearer. "Say wasn't there a DIEIS agent right there? What happened that he didn't see--Oh God." The image was played in clearer definition and in slow motion. As the cameras started flashing, the DIEIS agent who was supposed to be protecting Samuil suddenly turned and fired what appeared to be a small palm-sized gun. Anatansya Olekalexein growled. She ordered in a very serious tone, "Make sure this is aired as soon as I leave. Do not under any circumstances allow anything to happen this evidence. Make sure it is broadcast internationally."

"You can count on it!" She thanked them and left. She made sure to have a few Royal Protectors on guard duty as well as a few MMID agents as well to monitor and assist in making sure the evidence aired.

She returned to the Royal Confederate Palace where she had asked her granddaughters to meet her.

They met in Samuil's office. She told them what she had found.

"A rogue DIEIS agent did this?"

"Damn those black ops spies," Cecilia cursed.

"I understand your anger, but we must do everything we can if we want to save Sam's life."

"What do you mean?" Anatansya Olekalexein told them. All three of her granddaughters' eyes widened and their mouths hung open.

"But...What you're suggesting we do...if we're wrong...I mean I always knew that DIEIS was rotten, but if we're wrong, we could get a lot of trouble," Taisyia said nervously.

"Just us? The whole Royal Family, every House of Nobility, and the entire government will be in serious hot water!" Natalka was right. If Anatansya's theories were in fact wrong, they would all be doomed.

"Still we must do this. Someone close and dear to us in danger, and the most likely suspects are in clear sight," the Queen Dowager told them. Her granddaughters were silent for a while.

Taisyia was the first to speak up. "If we can save Sambo's life, we have to try."

Cecilia nodded. "I agree. I'll try and see if Southern Yugoslavia and Vekaiyu have any violations that DIEIS committed on their soils. We'll need every bit of ammo we can get. Just uncovering their sins won't be enough. We need a lot, and I mean we need several mountains, of dirt on their operations. I know Azulcena sent a compliant about DIEIS spying on their government officials, especially King Antonio himself. Kabya might know some more info, too."

Natalka crossed her arms in front of her. "Hell, I've never liked those spooks anyhow. If they're behind any of the attempts on my brother's life, I'll be damned if I just stand on the sidelines and have him die. I've been locked up in a flithy, dusty Rygardi prison for seven years. I've just been reunited with my family, and I'm not about to say goodbye to another loved one until the Almighty's angels call him away."

Anatansya Olekalexein smiled. "Thank you. Taisyia. I know you are no longer part of the military, but..."

"This is Sam we are talking about. If he was here and one of us was in the same danger, he wouldn't hesistant for a moment. Just get me a CBA and a gun."

"That's goes for me too."

Anatansya nodded and looked at Cecilia. "Cecilia I know you want to go with us, knowing you..."

Cecilia smiled and answered, "Grandma, I know my place is here. I was made Royal Confederate Premier, and I need to do what I can to help coordinate our nation's defenses. I'm not about to let these bastards and bitches get away with attacking my brother, slaughtering innocent refugees, and setting off a bomb in our nation's capital."

"Good."

"So when do you want to do this," Natalka asked.

"Tonight," the Queen Dowager answered.

"Tonight it is then. Tonight, the hammer falls," Taisyia added.

OOC: To let all of you know, the hammer falls is a reference to the last mission in the Terran Campaign of the original Starcraft game, which was titled "The Hammer Falls." :)

-------------------------------------------------

While the others got ready, Cecilia was contacting both Southern Yugoslavia and Vekaiyu about anything illegal that DIEIS did within their nations. She needed all the information she could gather on DIEIS. She just hoped that this plan would work.

"Come on, Ikrisia and Zach pick up your blasted phones." She tapped her fingers against the desk and wagged her tail impatiently as she waited for the leaders of Vulshain's two strongest allies to answer.

Ikrisia had been wrapping up reports during the day regarding expanding the Vekaiyun military and any other potential advances that could be done. "Yes?" she asked after picking up her phone.

Cecilia was glad Ikrisia had answered. "Ikrisia, this is Cecilia Rainard. You've probably heard about the attack on my brother Sam. Listen, this is very important. I need all information you have on any violations DIEIS, the Department of Internal and External Intelligence and Security our nation's civilian intelligence gathering agency, has committed on your soil. I don't care how trivial the info is, but I need it quickly."

"Royal Confederate Premier!" A CPG came running in. "The Queen Dowager and members of the Kuverinsent Regiment and your sisters are attacking the DIEIS HQ Building!"

Cecilia nodded. "The hammer has fallen."

------------------------------------------------

Earlier...

Queen Dowager Anatansya Olekalexein walked into the DIEIS HQ Building. Armed guards stared at her, as if she was stupid or crazy or both for coming there. She looked around. "Can I help you?"

"Yes. I want a tour."

"Huh?"

"I request a tour of your facility. All of it."

"Ma'am I'm going to have to ask you to leave."

"Are you refusing a royal order?"

The guard glared at her. "Look bitch I said leave now." He grabbed her shoulder. Anatansya Olekalexein grinned.

"Why are you grinning?"

"Tell me, do you think I'm stupid?"

"Yeah. Especially since you brought a weapon in here."

"Weapon? Oh you mean my walking staff. I'm getting old. You wouldn't want your Queen Dowager to fall and break a hip?"

"I don't give a damn. Now get out before I have to throw you out."

"Actually, you are right. It is a weapon." She grinned. Suddenly, she grappled the guard hurling him across the room and threw the glass doors. She spun the weapon in a spin, using it to strike several of the other guards. "You should know: I am a Master of Rinjutsu, or the Way of the Staff. And a Master of Wenggi."

"What is going on here?"

She spun around to see another guard, wearing a uniform she hadn't seen in a long time, except at a museum. The guard was wearing a Vulshainian Republican Regime uniform. The black uniform caused her to growl. "I see Vulshain's dark past has returned."

"Sound the alarm!" He opened fire on her. She took out her fan using it to deflect the bullets. She then used it to slice off the guard's head. Before the head hit the floor, the alarms went off. "There she is! KILL HER!" The guards surrounded her. Suddenly, the cavalry arrived. Kuverinsent Regiment soldiers wearing Confederate Battle Armor Suits, or CBAs, stormed the building, killing the guards. Natalka and Taisyia ran up to her. "Grandma, are you okay?"

"Yes. You two, with me," Anatansya answered Taisyia.

The three of them ran through the building. While they did that, C-SAT and Kuverinsent soldiers were busy taking out any stragglers. "I can't believe that the Republican Regime's been manipulating us!" Natalka yelled as she fired her AK-74, mowing down several Republican Regime soldiers.

"Makes you wonder what these rats have been up to since they lost both the Monarchical Revolution and the Civil War," Taisyia added as she emptied her PP-19 Bizon submachine gun. She used it as an improvised club, smashing it against a DIEIS traitor's head. She then switched to her Saiga-12 shotgun.

Anatansya sighed. "I've taken down twice as many guards and terrorists as you two have, and all I have been using are my feet, hands, and staff!" She karate kicked a guard before using her staff to strike another in the groin. "We must hurry!"

"How do you know where to go?"

"Someone is looking out for us," she said with a smile.

She led her granddaughters and a couple of soldiers up the stairs to the fifth floor.

"We have to get rid of the poison!"

Anatansya glared. "No you will not!" She sped into the room throwing her staff like a spear where it impaled a DIEIS traitor through the heart. As he fell the vial of the poison that was coursing through Sam's veins went into the air. "NO!"

"YES! The King dies!"

A C-SAT soldier tossed aside his weapon and dove onto the floor, catching the vial before it hit the ground. "NO," the Republican Regime scientist yelled. He pulled a gun out, but was struck down by the Queen Dowager in a flurry of kicks and punches.

"Get that vial to the hospital!" The C-SAT soldier nodded. "You can count on it!" He went back down the stairs, covered by his comrades. "Mailman is on his way! Make sure he delivers the mail!"

"Roger!"

DIEIS traitors and Republican Regime snipers fired from above. A Hind gunship appeared and opened fire on the snipers. Meanwhile, Royal Protectors and Confederate Marshals snipe a few as well. A taxi driver was confused and terrified at what was going on. Suddenly, the C-SAT soldier flung open the passenger door and got in. "To Kitsuniva Veterans' Memorial Hospital and step on it! The King needs this vial!"

"Well, why didn't you say so! Hang on!" The taxi driver slammed on the accelerator and sped towards the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Queen Dowager, Natalka, Taisyia and several Confederate soldiers went to the main office. They were greeted by the sight of dead bodies on the floor. Ewing, the head of DIEIS was on the floor dead as well.

"He outlived his usefulness," came the voice of the person sitting in Ewing's chair. The chair spun around. "Oh dear God. It's General Jake Kiemstone."

"Who else?" He got up straightening his Vulshainian Ground Forces uniform. “I must admit that I didn’t think you would be crazy enough to lead a raid here. But it matters not. You have no proof that DIEIS was behind the attack on our nation’s stupid monarch. Why the only way you could get proof is to broadcast this to the world! But you can’t, not unless you hacked into DIEIS’ computer network and camera systems and then sent the live feedback to VCNMN or something. My conspirators and I worked hard to bring this nation to its knees. Besides, DIEIS was the one behind the first attempt on King Rainard’s life. We were also behind the attempt on the Southern Yugoslavian President’s life as well. Why I was even thinking of having Lazlowia take the fall and be blamed for His Majesty’s death. Oh I can just imagine the look of horror on the Lazlowian President’s face when Vulshain’s allies bomb his nation into the Stone Age. We were even going to frame the nation of Legokiller for an attempt on the King of Azulcena we were thinking about doing two months from now! And I personally made sure that assassin got into Vekaiyu. Of course, your stupid grandson had to get in the way and be the Vekaiyun Premier’s knight in shining armor and save her life! I nearly threw up when he kissed her on the cheek! Gag! I was so happy when we decided to remove that pesky thorn that is Samuil Rainard from our sides. Or should I say was a pesky thorn?” He laughed. He then noticed that they were smiling. “Why are you smiling?”

“Congratulations, General Kiemstone. You’re on international television.”

“What,” he asked confused by Natalka’s statement. He then realized. “How?”

“That was my doing.” Erik Rainard appeared on a large monitor nearby. “I wasn’t about to let a bunch of thugs and traitors kill my brother, destroy my nation, and get away with it.” Erik glared at the traitorous general. “Every nation heard your little speech General. They all know about your underhanded crimes!”

“You little brat!”

“It’s over General. You’re under arrest!”

“TO HELL I AM!” He tried to fire on them, but Anatansya attacked, slicing his hand off along with the gun. He screamed in agony. The Confederate soldiers grabbed him. “Take this traitorious asshole away,” Natalka commanded.

“Yes, Marshal Raianrd!” They took him away. There was a groan. “It’s Agent Phillip Still.” Anatansya knew Agent Still personally. Despite him being a DIEIS agent, he was loyal to Vulshain to a fault. The man’s loyalty was extraordinary, but it seemed that he was punished for his steadfast loyalty.

“Took you long enough to get here,” he said before coughing. “Not all of DIEIS was part of this scheme. Some of us found out about it, but it was too late. I…don’t have…much time…left…COUGH! General Kiemstone was only one of ten. There…are nine left…Vulshain is not out of danger yet. COUGH! Beware the Nine…You will know them from their...tarnished stars...The Nine must…be…stopped…..” He sighed as he passed away. Taisyia bent over and closed his eyes. “He was a good man. I hope we make sure we stop the Nine before it is too late.”

Anatansya nodded. “Come on. I think we all need some sleep, especially after what we accomplished tonight.”

“Do you think that the broadcast go through?”

“Yep. VCNMN just informed me that the broadcast was sent worldwide. Every nation in the East Pacific and beyond heard the General’s little speech.”

“I just hope that the doctors can create an antidote and save Sam’s life,” Taisyia said.

“We’ve done our part. Now, all we can do is pray and hope that our actions were not in vain,” the Queen Dowager said.

Meanwhile...

The C-SAT soldier ran into the hospital, running up to the doctor and giving him the vial of poison. "Here's the original poison! Quick make the antidote!"

The doctor nodded and grabbed the vial and ran to the lab with the soldier close behind.

The doctors and researchers quickly began working on an antidote.

OOC: Wow. Now, I know how Todd felt after writing so many long posts in his The Others thread! And I hope every nation mentioned in the General's speech posts. I want to see y'all's reactions.

"All activity? I would need to run it by our intelligence to determine just what sort of activities they have had on our soil. I can have a report sent directly to you within an hour. Thank you, and I'll be sure to get back with you."

She hung up the phone and began gathering a list of contacts on her computer. After some time had passed, she had sent the inquiries to the necessary departments and waited for the reports to come directly to her secretary, Ankya, for processing.

Suddenly, there was a knock at her door. "Enter," she commanded.

"Premier Levinile," Ikovu Commodore Yeri Ileskevu began, "apparently there has been a bit of development in Vulshain, regarding their Intelligence factions."

Ikrisia looked up from her computer and turned to face the relatively young vulpine Ikovu Commodore. She folded her fingers one over the other and set her hands on her desk. "Do tell."

"Yes, well, apparently it just went on air to state they've gone AWOL and have been responsible for a series of recent problems in our region."

Ikrisia rubbed her forehead and sighed as the Ler Commodore entered her office. "Sit down, both of you." She waited for the two officers to take their seats. "Thoughts, anyone?"

"This reminds me of the regime with Selvala," Lebivistre stated. "How do you let an intelligence organization go rogue and cause chaos across the region? If that is their intelligence organization, something that should be very personal to the regime, imagine what else could be at odds in the nation."

"Will they take the fall for what they have done?" Ileskevu added.

"I don't even think they know what they've done," Ikrisia confessed. "Which puts them in a very dangerous position. They asked me to name anything they've done in our nation."

"A blank check," Lebivistre said with a slight grin.

"Exactly."

Lebivistre shook his head. "What I do not get, Milady, is how volatile their regime is. This Samuil reminds me of Selvala with his impulsiveness, his pride, and his quickness to being offended and angered. He has spent much time abroad and allowed a situation like this to develop. It is almost as if he does not want to be a king."

Ikrisia nodded. "That is a concern. And with the problems Listonia has posed, it doesn't make things easier." She shrugged. "I'm interested to see how the people react to this. Clearly they can't be happy about this. But their reaction to me will determine just how totalitarian the state has become."

"Couldn't their people just be... really loving to their royal family?" Ileskevu asked.

"Yes. But there is enough opposition where I'd imagine there should be a conflict." Ikrisia shrugged. "But that's really irrelevant. I believe we should watch the state closely."

"Aye," Lebivistre replied. "Its instability could disrupt the gulf."

"And that's a huge concern," Ikrisia replied. "Especially if we're going to be taking a stronger interest in our neighbor to the east."

"Oh?" The Ler Commodore asked.

"In good time," Ikrisia replied, looking at her Ikovu Commodore.

Sam sighed. He was in his bedroom at the Royal Palace. He nearly gets killed and when he awakens, after being cured, he finds out that his family led a raid on DIEIS HQ and discovered it was filled with traitors and terrorists.

"Oh I wish I had never taken the role of Monarch," he said. "Now, two of my sisters and my own grandmother are going to trial for what happened."

"Well, at least they didn't drag off in chains and handcuffs," Cecilia replied while standing in the doorway leaning against the doorframe.

Sam nodded. "Yeah well, that was a gutsy move, issuing a royal warrant of investigation against our own intelligence agency. We may have uncovered a huge viper in our house, but now, we are the laughing stock of the East Pacific. Hell, probably the world. I've been thinking about what I did in Vekaiyu."

"Oh?"

"Yeah. I guess I overreacted and became well too quick to be angered. I guess almost getting killed makes you realize things better. Or maybe I thought about it while resting after taking the antidote."

Cecilia walked over and sat on the bed. "How's your arm?"

Sam rubbed his right arm, which was in a sling. "I've been injured much much worse. I had to have 95 pieces of sharpnel removed from my arm," he said with a chuckle. He looked out his window at the setting sun. "I don't think the courts will punish them, considering that they fought terrorists and traitors who would have gone straight to the electric chair or the firing wall. So, how many agents weren't traitors?"

His sister sighed. "Probably about twenty-five of them. But...A good many of them were badly injuried. DIEIS had a lot of the more loyal agents transfer to MMID. I thought it was always strange that so many people had been recruited by DIEIS. I guess they were just mercenaries and terrorists who were brought into the organization to quickly fill in the empty spaces in order to build up their strength. From what Kabya and the rest of MMID have uncovered is that DIEIS was at least eighty percent in the hands of the terrorists. They were planning a coup. Every government official was their target, and we even found plans to bomb Southern Yugoslavia and Vekaiyu's parliaments. They interrogated some of the terrorists and found out that one of them was even stalking Zach's wife."

"Hm...." Sam thought for a moment. "Have you told Stu or Zach this?"

"Not yet."

"Hm...Ask them do they want us to send this guy to them. I'm sure the Southern Yugoslavians would love to get their hands on this guy."

"Okay." Cecilia thought for a moment, and asked, 'Do you mind if we invite Zach and his family, and especially Stu and his family?"

"Hm...Are you looking for an excuse to jump in bed with Stu?"

"HUH!?"

"Relax sis. I'm not mad. I figured you and him were sleeping with each other," Sam replied. "I'm not sure if Grandma knows about this though. But, I'm happy for you, Cecilia."

"And what about you?"

"What about me?"

"You kissed the Premier of Vekaiyu."

"Ah that. Well, I will admit that was a little sudden, but she is very beautiful." He snapped his fingers. "I know: Aster tataricus. It's a flower that means--"

"Thinking of you always, I know."

"Maybe some agrimonies to thank her for showing me Vekaiyu, and some pear blossoms to represent lasting friendship between our two nations. And oh! A blue rose!"

Cecilia smiled. "Blue rose? You know no one has ever figured out why Vulshain is one of the very few nations where blue roses grow naturally."

"Yeah. But that's the beauty of the blue rose." Cecilia looked at him. "The blue rose represents mystery, attaining the impossible, and love at first sight. They also represent a never ending quest for the impossible. They are believed to be able to grant the owner youth or grant wishe. The blue rose also symbolizes hope against unattainable love. To give someone a blue rose means you have been enchanted by them. In a way, this is true of me and Ikrisia. I've...I never actually thought I could this way towards someone. She's a little rough around the edges, and she seems to have a chip on her shoulder, but I don't mind one bit. She is a very interesting and beautiful vixen." Sam was looking at a vase of blue roses as he said these things.

Suddenly, Cecilia laughed. "What's so funny?"

"I can't believe my little Sammy has fallen head over heels in love with a white and gray vixen tomboy like Ikrisia Levinile!"

"I could say the same thing about you and Stu. You were quite the tomboy when you were growing up." This caused Cecilia to stop laughing.

"Anyhow about my request for the Southern Yugoslavian visit."

"We'll have to wait for me to recover a bit now. But maybe next month. The middle of October is the Moon and Star Harvest Festival."

"Oh that's right! We always..."

"You're thinking about Anna, aren't you?"

"Yeah. I know that taking part in this research experiment is important in strengthening relations between Vulshain and Vekaiyu, but still..."

"Anna's a grown vixen, she can handle herself."

"But...Oh!" Sam gave her a puzzled look. "I almost forgot: they're probably going to announce the decision of the trial!"

"What!? Why didn't you mention this before!?" Sam switched on the TV. They both watched the trial as the judge gave the verdict. Both of them sighed in relief.

"Not guilty," Sam smiled.

"They were given a warning to never do anything this stupid or risky ever again without a proper investigation."

Sam nodded. The judges were probably a little intimidated too as they knew that rending a guilty verdict would plunge the nation into chaos as the people would be furious. Vulshain was still a nation that loved its monarchs and royalty.

"Any word from Ikrisia yet?"

"Not yet. But I'll make sure to get those flowers sent to her. You just rest some bro."

Sam nodded as he rested. After his sister left, he looked at the blue roses. "In a way, Ikrisia Levinile is like the blue rose: an enchanting mysterious beauty."
