Moving Forward

Over the past few months, we as a region have faced conflict, overcome dilemmas, and debated the progression of this region. While we have come a long way, few will argue that there is still much to be done.

I would like to take a moment to discuss our progression and develop a plan for continued progression in this region. I believe that while we are making progress that perhaps some old ways of thinking and some old vices may be holding us back. In response to observations concerning these vices, I would like take the time to remind us of what we have done.

Not but too long ago, we have recognized the need for new administrators. At first, we as a region were reluctant to acknowledge that need, but as the debate continued the need of which became more evident. I am glad to announce that Packilvania has taken upon the task of instituting new leadership and we have already put in place additional new staff. This effort is a continuing process as we still seek to upgrade Pack to Root Admin status.

Additionally, our region was dependent on single leadership in the past; despite our claims to democracy, it leaned more on oligarchic tendencies. In the past, we as a region have relied on single members or a small group of members to achieve activity or accomplish anything. I would like to point out that our Conclave, now active, has stepped above the reliance on a single person and has indeed begun to flourish. Drakkengard must also receive a special commendation by my self. Independently he has dedicated himself to keeping with WA affairs and ensuring that the voice of The East Pacific is heard in WA affairs. Chancellor Shaw, Yy4U, Barb, Bluto, Nylter and others have revitalized our RMB into a 'hopping place'. Until his recent inactivity, Dyr Nasad has contributed positively to our Magisterium and has promoted a positive growth. In addition to the contribution of others, East Malaysia has independently taken upon the task of transforming our Embassy and bringing life into TEP's foreign affairs. In RP, several new RP'ers such as Chancellor Shaw, Fyrdowsi, Smigsathenweiz, Veerilion, and others have emerged and done wonders contributing to the progression of TEP RP while even other newer RP'ers such as Allegheny have ascended to moderator status for their amazing dedication to TEP RP.

I would like to take this moment to thank all the members involved in these affairs. Your dedication and independence has lead TEP to finally live up to its claim to be an independent region. ;)

Also worthy of mentioning is the return of several TEP'ers who have contributed positively to the past community. Let us rewelcome Reziel, FPS, Warre, Kangarawa, and Dovokan and hope that they choose to continue to contribute to the community!

Furthermore, I see our region developing its own unique flare. In response to feeder politics, TEP is becoming its own hot spot for unique methods of dealing with adspum. We have united as a region and have solved the issue of adspum not by joining the push in banning badspummers but by making the RMB a fun and lively place to be, thus pushing off adspum quickly. Our trial RP spree on the RMB has indeed succeeded in baffling adspummers who were reluctant to break up the sprees. We have also been joined by friendly "invaders" who have brought us together as a region to combat adspum even further as we all finally submit to our one true leader, The Hive.

Again, we have made strides from my viewpoint. Where we were and where we are I believe is a very positive step forward. However, I would like to encourage us all to do our part to continue to step forward into NS.

Right now it becomes a struggle with the incorporation of old and new, as it has for a while. Old TEP'ers, old NS'ers, new TEP'ers, and new players, all struggle to find their footing in this region. While I regret to say, it has more than once been brought to my attention that TEP is still an unwelcoming region despite our best efforts to make it a welcoming community. I would like to take a moment of your time to explore those reasons.

It was brought to my attention that our RP separation has unintentionally created a divide, isolating RP'ers into two categories that appear unable to intermingle. While this is unfortunate to hear, it must be addressed. Discussions have been made to remerge RP and that debate will be discussed further in the future. While I do not disagree with the divide, I also see that our response to that separation is creating a further division. I ask that each regional member do their part to try to break down this wall. Let us open OOC communication, discuss our concerns with other players, and work together rather than against one another. It may seem that we do this, but the debate seems to suggest otherwise and I would like to address this before it becomes the source of a serious conflict.

Additionally, I know we all come to this game for different reasons and I have seen debates on the importance of one aspect of this game over another. Let me remind TEP that while this region was developed through a common interest in RP, we have far since come from the primary focus on RP. RP is not the sole source of interest in our region any longer and we must accept this and move with the flow of this game. If we continue to cling to the past, we may prevent a genuine opportunity to excel in this game. I know that all feeders struggle with the old/new divide....let us for once set a trend in this game by being the first feeder to conquer this divide!

I encourage you all to talk to each other not just through one aspect of this game, but all. I can personally vouch for almost every active member of this region. There is not a single most untrustworthy member in our active community. Do not hesitate to open up, ask about someone's day, discuss concerns, or even ask for help. We are all good meaning people, even if it may appear otherwise. I noticed that interpretations of each member can be skewed by misinterpretation of their actions. I am speaking as someone who has been doing it for months, it is quite well to speak to others and address your concerns with them. There may be some debate at times, but for the most part, the individuals involved are willing to listen to your concerns. :)

Lastly, while I respect what every member has done for this region in the past, I do see a tendency for the old members to cling to the old members and shun the contributions of the new members. I understand the natural tendency as to how this phenomenon develops; it is human nature to fall back on the familiar. However, I do implore us all to give one another an honest chance. There is so much that new members, new TEP'ers, and new players can contribute to our community. While I love TEP just as much as the next player, the 'old' TEP has died. Like a fallen city, we must rebuild. Our foundation will always remain the same. The morals, the emphasis on an independent feeder, the importance of democratic choice, the roots of RP being important aspects of TEP will not be discarded, but we must change the appearance of that city to meet current trends. We rebuild Rome (Roma for Reziel)! ;)

So let us move into a new tomorrow TEP! Let us continue to progress and remind ourselves that we are not destroying what was once TEP but moving forward with the demands of the game. We must progress or we fall vulnerable to another threat like The Empire. The Empire has taught us the importance of inaction and blindness to interregional politics, let us not repeat the same mistakes by continuing to move forward!

Never forget, WE ARE TEP! HOORAH!
