Hi, Over in the Magisterium, we've been discussing the Arbiter Nomination for Chancellor Shaw. To make a fully informed decision, we would like to know if any thought has been given to alternative Arbiters, if the motion didn't pass. I was going to PM DFD, then realised that an open discussion would be better to bring ideas forward. Thanks, OMD |

The delegate nominates players for Arbiter positions when the need arises or when they feel a particular person fits the role and would do well in the position. When Terasu resigned, we had a need for another Arbiter. Based on that, I looked through our active player base and found the most fitting nomination for the position. I look for people who are active, involved, objective, and trustworthy. I specifically look for members who have committed time to maintaining and preserving the core values of The East Pacific. Shaw was nominated because I believe he upholds those values and would make a fine addition to the Conclave. There are no other candidates or alternative candidates. The Conclave does not work that way. This is not a delegatorial election process, but rather it is a process where the individual is examined by the Magisterium and decided upon there. It is not a compare and contrast or popularity contest of sorts. Candidates nominated for the position have shown an exceptional dedication and objectivity within the region. Therefore, it is unreasonable to give alternative suggestions for the sake of an alternative; if a candidate does not meet what the Conclave is looking for, they do not meet it and are not nominated. Again, we are avoiding popularity contests here with the selection of an alternative where it is more likely for you to vote on who you know versus what a member actually contributed.![]() |

Magisterium has one nominee because Conclave has one vacancy. Concordat says the Delegate chooses and the Magisterium votes. Magisterium does not choose, only vote. The Arbiter nomination threads in your own archive are all identical in this regard and it takes 10 minutes to read all of them: it's simply a matter of Magisterium approving or disapproving each nominee sent to them by Delegate to fill a vacancy. I requested Delegate send a new nominee for approval and she sent Chancellor Shaw's name to Magisterium on July 26, 2010. On August 11, 2010, I asked the new Magisterium to take this up as a matter of importance following election of Provost. |

Thanks, I fully understand the rules but wanted to know if any consideration had been given to the possibility of the nomination failing, however unlikely it may be. |
