"I'll help you get this back together." Declan picked up the luggage, set it back onto the cart and then approached the woman holding out his hand. "Hello there miss, my name is Declan Cooper and you are?"

Still mortified at having actually hit someone, May grasped his hand firmly looking up to see his eyes as she answered. "May. May Kuragosa. It's ... it's nice to bump into you, Declan." Colouring even more, she quickly added, "I didn't mean that the way it came out. It wasn't actually nice to bump into you ... I mean, it's nice to meet you, but I wish I hadn't bumped into you in the first place. I mean ..." She shook her head and started to laugh. "You know what I mean. At times I only open my mouth to change feet! I really am sorry though."

His eyes wide open in observing the girl’s franticness, Jordan couldn’t avoid smiling wholeheartedly when she finally laughed at the whole situation.

«Ok May… we’re definitely going to add you on the ‘banned from caffeine’ list. Just to help you relaxing a bit» he grinned, before turning a bit more serious again «Kuragosa… that’s Adam, isn’t it? The bio-engineer, right?»

Kieran was surprised, just as his parents were when Alvus came in. It seemed that Kieran and Alvus were going to be roommates. "Oh, hi Alvus. This is my mother and father, Shima and Motak Yivereru."

Motak nodded and said, "I guess you and my son are going to be roommates." He then set up an easel. Shima smiled and said, "Hello, Alvus. I wish we had known that you were going to be our son's roommate. We could have helped you with your bags and luggage. Here let me." She walked over and took one of his bags. "Where do you want me to put them?"

Momentarily taken aback, May glanced warily at the guy in biker leathers.

We didn't talk about what to do if someone recognised ...

"Bio-geneticist, actually ... and yes, he was my father." May knew her tone was cool.

Gaze encompassing both men, she started grinning again. "As for the caffeine, isn't there a rule against torture somewhere? I mean, come on ... I don't remember saying I'd give up essential part of my diet when I started here! Anyway, guess I'd better fill out whatever it is we have to and get myself sorted. Thanks, Declan, and I'm still sorry about letting my stuff attack. Are both of you on the fifth floor too?"

Without waiting for a reply, she tried to catch the eye of one of the senior student behind the counter.

"Excuse me, sir? Which of these piles do I need to add to?"

"Uh, thank you, Mrs. Yivereru," Alvus said as his bag were taken from him. "I'm not familiar with Vulshain's forms of honorifics," he told aside to Kieran.

Alvus turned back to Mrs. Yivereru. "Oh, my bag? I don't know, which side would Kieran like? I'll take the other one." Alvus massaged the shoulder where the two remaining bag straps sat on.

Alvus turned toward Kieran again. "Your parents came? Wow, that's pretty cool. My parents aren't exactly the kind to come out for something like this; 'it's a pointless waste of time', my father always told me!" Alvus chuckled slightly, and resumed: "My father, always the businessman." He plopped down his bags toward the back of the room.

Motak shrugged. "Your father has a lot of important things to do, so I'm not surprised."

Kieran shrugged. "I'll take the left side," he said. His mother nodded, and placed Alvus' bag on the right side of the room.

The Yivererus continued to unpack and even helped Alvus to unpack. "Okay, Kieran you have everything now, right?"

"Yes, mom."

"You sure now? Your art supplies, your notebooks, your clothes...we should have asked Matt about where you wash your clothes..."

"Mom!"

"I just want to make sure you have everything."

"Love, I'm sure Kieran has everything. If he forgot something, we'll make sure to send it to him."

Sighing, Shima nodded. "Alright. Well, if you boys want to, we could go out and eat before you start your classes tomorrow?"

Kieran smiled and answered, "Actually, I'm taking a double major of Medieval History and Art. You could say that art is in my blood."

Both Matok and Shima smiled at this. "Well, I guess we can go out then. I saw a great restaurant that served seafood."

The rush of students moving to and from the desk seemed to defeat the whole purpose of a line. It all reminded her of when Listonia was first created as a state - everyone was grabbing at everything they could for fear that it wouldn't be there tomorrow. Uncertainty can really make people act crazy.

Still, she finally gave in and just set her forms on the desk. The RA would know where it goes, she figured, and if not, someone would be around to ensure her papers were in order. The man seemed friendly enough, if not busy, but certainly responsible enough to file three forms in the right order. Perhaps that's just how they did it over here. It never crossed her mind, but it did make sense to try and adapt to this culture.

The room was full of people. The vixen stepped backwards, then turned around and headed out the door to get some air. She wasn't normally claustrophobic, but being around dozens of people she didn't even know was a weird feeling, especially with the memories of her childhood, back when Listonia was simply an afterthought, back when it actually mattered with respect to her background, race, ancestry, religion, whatever else they could use to classify people. She was lucky enough to avoid most of it for being a kid.

It was fairly sunny out, and the farther she got away from the dorms, the better she felt. "Maybe I can look around campus. Where do you sign up for classes anyway?" She continued up the walkway, passed a recreation facility, enjoying the fauna and trees planted all around the campus. Really, it was a beautiful sight - the grounds crew must have done a good job of maintaining the campus.

Suddenly she stopped. Standing in front of her was a man dressed in all black. He had a nasty-looking purple scar across the front of his neck.

"Oh... I'm sorry, I should be more careful when I walk around."

Learn to understand your interlocutor’s body language: moments of stiffening, lost glances. It’s not what you already know, but what the interlocutor suggests you should investigate. His father, the great Attorney General of the region… they hadn’t talked that much, after Jordan had finally got his definitive label of ‘black-sheep son’. But that single instruction… it had been a worth one, and he had always followed it, refining and polishing his own skills year after year, hearing after hearing, negotiation after negotiation… and now May had definitely something to investigate. But… not yet. Just… later.

Grinning, the young man pointed at the left pile.

«To be honest… I’d say it’s more or less the same. After all, they will simply bring all of the forms in the dungeons under the main building, offering them as a sacrifice to the enormous bureaucracy-eating two-headed monster each and every FPSian secretly worships» he chuckled, grinning as Matt shook his head.

Grateful that the subject of her father had been dropped, May glanced again at the biker. "You're one of the RA's then?" Picking up one of the four inch stapled stacks of forms from the left side, she started leafing through them, eyes widening in mock-horror at the amount of information being both provided and asked for. "My mother's grandmother's great-aunt's maiden name? I see what you mean about a bureaucracy! These may take a while." Despite her impish tone, May grimaced a little as she looked around the crowded lobby, the crowded table and then back at the stack of forms before continuing dryly, "Maybe I ought to find a room somewhere and bring these back next semester when I've finished filling them out."

Grabbing a pen from her purse, she moved slightly to the side and started completing her paperwork.

«Uhm… nope, sorry. You can be granted a maximum of two months» replied Jordan, taking out of the pocket such a serious tone that May couldn’t avoid raising her glance on him «After that, you’ll have to request an Extension of Time. Filing form A-4, which is twice thicker and…»

«Jordan!» interjected Matt, in obvious disapproval. It was too funny… and the serious tone went away at lightspeed as Jordan laughed wholeheartedly.

«Ok ok… RA Terrus is right. I definitely have to behave. Sorry for having been a bit over the line, May. However… it was the left pile, really. You’re Kangarawan, so it will performed by office EPF-4… and this time I am serious. They have a bureaucracy to find out which office works out which bureaucracy. Oh… and I’m Jordan. Jordan Carlyle. Assistant to Professor Raitvik… I think the subject is Compared Business Law , but the name wasn’t yet official when I left LC. I think this is the first time Shiro holds it»

One eyebrow still raised, May grinned.

"Nice to meet both of you. Sir, I'd never have taken you for an assistant professor. Mr. Terrus, exactly what are they asking for here on page 26?"

"It's Matt. I'm a student too." He sounded a little frustrated as he pointed out that she'd missed the small print on page 23 that explained exactly what she'd just asked. May nodded her thanks and went back to filling out the forms, carefully folding along the perforations and separating the pages that had to be filled out from those containing instructions and general information. Lining up the corners of the four pages she'd actually had to write on, she made use of the stapler and ruler on the table and placed the staple exactly two cm down from the top left corner at what she hoped was a forty-five degree angle as the instruction booklet had instructed. She'd not been able to find a protractor.

Handing the completed forms back to Matt, she tucked the remaining reams of paper underneath one of her bags on the luggage cart.

"510 ... close to the kitchenette and Common Area. Elevator is at the end of the hall."

"Thanks, Matt."

A somewhat harrowing twenty minutes later, having successfully managed to get through the lobby, down the hall, into the elevator and up to her room without damaging anyone or anything, May sighed with relief. Leaving the door open behind her, she methodically started unpacking.

Centralia laid out on a large blanket spread across the quad, welcoming new students with truffles, sodas, and other assorted snacks. She had been here all day, having never really left the campus all year. Since her arrival in TEP, she had taken up permanent residence at Shiro with Aristes, who had decided to use the day as an escape.

She pondered his behavior for only a moment, considering that perhaps his increased anti-socialism and retreat to his thoughts might be forewarning of a personal tragedy, but the questioning glance and slow creep forward of a new student broke her thoughts. Springing up, she extended a cold soda and welcomed the student to her small social gathering.

"Welcome! Is this your first year here?" she asked with a beaming smile, her white sundress catching the light and accenting her frame. "My name is Centralia. If there is anything you need, please do not hesitate to ask."

Meanwhile, Aristes found himself traveling the length of the campus. His ordered silence upon arrival in The East Pacific left him much time to think and as a result, he was finding himself enjoying the silence more and more. Was this the intention? He began to consider the need for one to accept silence upon returning home. Perhaps that was Der Fuhrer's intentions, to prepare him to take over The Reich from The Dictatorship. No doubt rebuilding the desolated nation would be a tremendous task, but perhaps it was all part of their plan.

And as he rounded a corner he watched as another one of those vulpine students nearly pummeled into a steal wall of a man. He would have laughed but seeing the uniform and the profile of the man made his skin instantly freeze despite the warmth of the afternoon. His skin paled, the cool clammy feeling taking over his hands, while his heart skipped a beat and resumed to overcompensate for the lost beat by racing. Bortniansky.

The idea was almost impossible. The man had disappeared years ago. And while part of him wanted to move closer and confirm his suspicions, the fear of meeting Mathias face to face paralyzed him. If the man was here, surely the Hierarchy had plans for something greater. Was it time for them to take the reigns?

Retreating backwards in hopes of not being seen, Aristes dived back around and pressed his back to the wall, trying to control his breathing and backtrack his way to Centralia without entering Mathias's field of vision. He had to confirm this with her, had to tell her what he had just seen. Slipping into the cooled lobby of the library, he sat down at a computer terminal and allowed his shaking hands to search the students. Naturally there was no registered students with the name Bortniansky and he allowed himself to feel a slight calm wash over himself.

"Ciera, there is an open sociology class. A Mister Bortniansky is teaching it. It says he was a professor here before and it looks like there are some mixed reviews about him. They say he is hard but you will learn a lot. Want to take it?"

The conversation brought with it a threatening darkness. But he needed to confirm it. Checking the faculty, he searched Bortniansky. The profile appeared, Mathias Bortniansky. Associate Professor of Sociology. While no picture was needed, he knew that Mathias was indeed here.

Keeping his calm, he took a few breaths and walked back outside, allowing the sun to warm him. Walking along campus, he again retreated to his thoughts, what all of this could mean and it dawned on him. They were training him all along. This task in silence was more than a step to come back to The Dictatorship, it was a training mission on how to lead through silence. It was a forced perspective into the life of Mathias. For a moment now, he began to understand the man and with that, a renewed sense of courage sprung within him. He would meet him. If Mathias was indeed here, he was not trying to hide his presence from them which meant that he would want them to know he was here, would want them to seek him out. Perhaps his presence here was just another exercise. Resigning to take Mathias's class, Aristes made his way back to the gathering around Centralia.

Sliding down, he took one of the sodas and cracked it up, nearly finishing it in a few gulps. It was not until Centralia sat beside him and rested her head on his shoulder that he stopped chugging it.

"Now I know something is wrong. What happened?" she asked, genuinely concerned for the moment.

"I saw Mathias," Aristes responded simply.

"Mathias? You mean like his ghost?" Centralia asked, now concerned that Aristes was losing his mind.

"No Cen, he's here. Teaching a course."

"OH! That's right! I heard about that!" she sat up excited. "Sociology or something."

"You knew?"

"Well only from today. His class has some openings and a few students were contemplating taking it," she chuckled to herself. "I slipped away for a moment and signed us up. I bet he would die if he saw us taking his class."

"Why do you think he's here?"

"To teach, why else?"

"And he came all the way here to do it?"

"Scenery change perhaps?" Centralia smiled and shrugged precariously before springing back up and socializing with another new face who joined the crowd.

Shaking his head, Aristes finished his soda, knowing that Cen would always be the helpless optimist....never looking for hidden meanings, never questioning the situation, always diving headfirst into it with her buoyant personality and coming out unscathed.

Part of him envied her, but her precariously behavior had too often brought them into trouble. Leaning back on the blanket, he looked up to the clouds and watched as they passed over head. He tried to make shapes of them, but all he could see were distortions. Finding his thoughts slipping back, he continued to gaze, almost anticipating the clouds to begin forming out the play of thoughts in his head, of the gunshots, screams, and devastation. He listened to the constant babbling and cheerful spring of Centralia, an odd lullaby to his restless thoughts, and drifting off to an afternoon nap, he allowed himself that moment of vulnerability. If Centralia could live her entire life in such a state, maybe he could afford just a moment....

Declan received his key from the RA and took the elevator to the fifth floor, he looked into his assigned room. "Empty for now, hope those mutts aren't put with me." Declan set his bags down on the bed and looked out the window. People were walking all over the place talking and meeting new friends, Declan decided to he should go outside and get some fresh air and meet other students and teachers.

The air was fresh and clean of the smell of oil Declan was used to when working with his parents out in the barren fields of Plainview. The grass was green and trees dotted the landscape with people sitting underneath them. Declan's attention was direct toward a certain blanket under one of the trees with a woman in a white dress welcoming new students, deciding that was the best place to start meeting new people Declan approached the large blanket and the woman and waved. "Hello there! Looks like a little party here! My name is Declan, are you guys new students too?"

Okë symbolically dusted off his paws and and surveyed his handiwork with an air of satisfaction. His clothing was now all neatly and systematically tucked away in the dresser and closet provided and the few items which he had brought along which weren't for wearing had also been put in their proper place, which had turned out to mostly be in or on his desk. The move in was complete, in what was possibly a personal record. When he was satisfied that he hadn't missed a spot, he sighed, flopped down onto his bed and began to ponder what to do next. Classes hadn't begun yet, so there certainly wasn't anything academic that had to be done. No roommate had showed to share the living space with him, so exchanging introductions was also not a possibility. For all he knew he might actually have the room all to himself. It wasn't very likely, but it was a tempting prospect.

He sat up and checked his watch. Wasn't any time near dinner, so that was also not an option. Thus by process of elimination Okë finally reached the conclusion that he'd known he would all along. It was time to head out, stretch his legs, get some fresh air and explore the rest of the campus grounds. Though, it occurred to him that it had been some time since he'd had a fresh change of clothing, what with all the travelling he'd been doing. A cursory visual examination of his shirt uncovered several unsightly stains. Driven by hypothetical embarrassment, both at potentially being seen in such clothing and having already been seen, he switched it with a plain white T-shirt and then, in a momentary fit of fashionable decadence, complimented the outfit with a short sleeved plaid button-up, left unbuttoned. A second inspection below the waist found nothing wrong with the shorts he was wearing, and thus prepared for his constitutional about the campus grounds he marched out of this room.

More precisely, he marched one footstep's length out of the room before spinning one hundred and eighty degrees on his heel and marching right back in to pick up the digital camera he'd left lying on his desk. A gift in honor of his last successfully completed educational program, it had quickly become a point of fascination and one of his dearest treasures. Whenever there was an opportunity to snap an interesting photograph he'd take it with him, which naturally was next to always. Once the device was hanging securely by the attached strap from around his neck, he marched out yet again and, this time, got beyond step one.

Soon he was walking across the grounds with no particular destination in mind. It was everything he had hoped it would be, and he very nearly skipped for excitement when faced with the myriad of brand new sights, sounds and smells. Other students and some of the staff were also out for a stroll of course. Others looked to be new arrivals who hadn't yet had a chance to unpack based on the copious amounts of luggage they carried with them. One particular person of people caught his idly wandering eyes. The woman stood out from the rest on account of, rather than being in motion, being seated on a picnic spread from which she greeted the new students passing not only with friendly greetings but what appeared to be a selection of snacks. Both interested and a touch appetized by the sight of presumably free food, he idled over. He was slightly surprised when he found that he recognized one of the other students congregated there from checkin. The other student appeared to have beaten him to engaging the woman's attention, so Okë held his tongue and waited respectfully for his turn.

Handing sodas to Okë and Declan, Centralia beamed with excitement. "Welcome! Please come enjoy us. My name is Centralia. I am glad you decided to join us! I have some truffles here an some other snacks. Please, help yourself. So what brings you to Shiro?" she asked pleasantly as she held open a box of delicately designed truffles to offer the two participants more than just her company.

Despite the obvious fur and distinction, Centralia welcomed Okë into her gathering as another. "Your coat is wonderful," she remarked as she leaned forward, slightly extending her hand and touching Okë on the arm, feeling the fur beneath her fingers and remarking that the man seemed to take good care of his fur as she guided him to sit and join her.

"Declan, you must have one of these! Here, try one," she extended the box as she smiled at them, "But to answer your question, it feels like I am new! Every day is a new day to me and I keep meeting new people here. Although if you ask Snugglebuggins back there," she motioned behind her to Aristes who was fast asleep with his hands tucked behind his head, "he might say we are not new."

Both Matok and Shima smiled at this. "Well, I guess we can go out then. I saw a great restaurant that served seafood."

After some time, Alvus and the Yivereru family finally arrived at the previously mentioned seafood restaurant.

"I don't know," Alvus said aloud. "I don't particularly like uh, fish." He thought back to his home country, and how it was an island nation - fish was a huge export, and also a huge piece of the market, leading to an overabundance of various seafoods.

Declan took the soda and truffle with a smile as Centralia excitedly handed them to him. He was extremely disappointed that one of the mutts had decided to come out at the same time he did but he shoved down his beliefs and decided not to cause a scene. He didn't want to alienate himself from the first people he met on his first day here.

"So what brings you to Shiro." Centralia asked.

"Oh you know, my parents wanted me to go to school in Allegheny, thats where I am from, but I heard about Shiro and decided it wouldn't hurt to go to school out of country. I've never been out of Allegheny before, it's way different here then I am used to." Declan answered before drinking some of the soda and taking a bite of the truffle, after swallowing he continued. "So Centralia, you have quite the unique name, are you from the Free Pacific States?"

Kieran and his parents were a little shocked by Alvus' dislike of fish, but not at him, but more at themselves for not asking him what he wanted to eat. Shima was the one who apologized first. "I'm sorry, Alvus. We should have asked what you wanted to eat first. But, I think this place does serve other foods besides fish."

The menu did list other selections, such as hamburgers, steaks, ribs, and chicken.

Kieran was looking at the ribs. However, a quick glare from his mother caused him to flatten his ears back. "Mom, I'm not a little kit anymore," he whined in Unonian.

"I don't care. You know how much I hate you getting that saunce in your fur."

"Okay, Mom. I'll just have the fried shrimp, crab legs, fries, and cinnamon apples."

Matok ordered a medium hamburger, chicken fingers, and mashed potatoes.

Shima ordered a lobster and crab legs along with fries and coconut fried shrimp.

The waiter turned to Alvus and asked, "And what would you like, sir, or do you still need some more time before making your decision?"

OOC: The menu is very similar to that of Red Lobster's. ;)

Alvus chuckled a bit at the Yivereru family's reaction. "No, it's just fish. Just fish," he replied. He looked over his menu. "I'm fine with any other seafood. Maybe the lobster? I haven't had that in a while. I'll take the lobster, then, the one with scallops and shrimp. And I'd like some melted butter as well," Alvus said as he handed the menu back to the waiter.

He examined their choice of meals, and noticed they weren't different at all than what most people would eat. Alvus pondered the reasons why people hated Vulpines - they were technically the same as any other human, just with a different physical form, so why were they hated so much? Alvus shook his head mentally and banished the thought, and decided to check his wallet for money - just enough, he decided. He decided not to bring along his credit card, but would rather requisition anything he needed from the VCRL's spare warehouse stocks.

OOC: I've never been to Red Lobsters before, but I did look up their menu. I chose based on the one closest to me, since it seems each location varies their menu.

Centralia chuckled lightly to herself. "From FPS?" she repeated back the question with a slight laugh, "Goodness I wish I was. I am from The Reich. You may have not heard of it because it is an isolated region in this world, but they are an iron-fisted dictatorship. Aristes and I were sent to come to Shiro to avoid the war that has been plaguing our land for years. He seems to share similar sentiments as you, adjusting to a place so new and unfamiliar has been difficult on him. How are you liking it so far?"

Okë was instinctively shocked by the directness Centralia displayed in making physical contact with him so quickly, even if it was just a light touch on the forearm. It was not that he personally had any sort of deep seated antipathy towards such gestures. Indeed, the thoughts that were entirely his own found the novel and exotic display fascinating. But he had spent all but the past few days of his life surrounded by a society in which such things were unheard of and had been necessarily conditioned to appropriately them, in spite of whatever his own opinions might happen to be. Still, he retained enough sense to graciously accept both the proffered beverage and seat.

"Thank you," he said as he took his seat, only to immediately append a slightly hurried disclaimer to avoid being taken as lacking in humility. "I meant for this drink, my coat is nothing." He'd heard that abroad you were supposed to thank people for compliments like that, but that couldn't be right. It just seemed far too egotistical. There was no point risking causing offense anyway. Still uncertain, Okë chose to wait and listen with interest to the exchange between Centralia and Declan. While doing so he popped the top of the aluminum can in his paw and, after first testing the container's contents with a quick sniff, risked a sip. The taste of the liquid was sweet compared to the drinks he had been raised on, almost absurdly so, and he felt a pang of nausea. Nevertheless, he swallowed the mouthful and held on to the can.

Kieran noticed Alvus checking his wallet. He said something to his father in Russian. Matok nodded and then turned to Alvus and said, "Don't worry about paying. Since we invited you, we are paying for your meal."

Kieran smiled. "Um...So, what is Raedion-Lucari like?"

Kieran smiled.  "Um...So, what is Raedion-Lucari like?"

"Skyscrapers, skyscrapers everywhere," Alvus said as he put away his wallet and patted his pocket to make sure it was in. "Every single building is a skyscraper in some way or form, and most of the open areas have been completely dominated by high-tech industrial or research buildings. It looks pretty futuristic though, everything's all polished and chrome-like. Almost like they were cities of glass. Of course, what they're actually made out of contradicts that idea - they're made to withstand most catastrophic impacts..."

Alvus took a swig of his glass of water and continued. "Outside of the cities, though, it's actually pretty rural - ironic considering inside the city perimeters there isn't a single speck of green inside them. We like to keep our nature separate from our industry - if only to preserve the geological history of our land. It used to be called Verania, and it was called that way until about 40 years ago - they renamed with a combination of our nation's two biggest islands, Raedion, where all of the aerospace companies are, and Lucari, the island where our capital sits. There's also the beach, but no one goes there to sunbathe - it's always below 22 degrees Celsius outside, but the weather works wonders for our fishing industry."

Alvus shook himself out of a reverie. "Oh dang it, I went into lecture-mode. Sorry about that. About what it's like, just picture gleaming cities sitting on various winter-forested islands. Yea, that's about it." Alvus chuckled sheepishly as he took another swig of his water.

Kieran was very interested as he listened to Alvus describing his homeland. "Wow. That's amazing. So, your nation is controlled by one huge corporation."

Soon, the waiter brought them their foods. "Kieran told us that your father was part of the government. You have to excuse me if I ask this, but if your nation is run by a corporation, then why do you need politicans? Wouldn't the CEOs and managers handle that," Matok asked before he took a bite out of his hamburger. Kieran ate some fries, but he went on to eating some of the shrimp. However, he was still listening.

Alvus started poking at his lobster with a fork. "Technically we don't have any politicians. Everything is run by the corporation." He started poking the shrimp. "Well, corporations, actually. A group of them working in mutual partnership, so says the documents. It's actually quite fine - since all the corporations are working in conjunction with each other, almost everything is free. But of course, variety," Alvus sighed. "People always pay for foreign goods - kind of weird since we basically produce everything ourselves, almost self-sufficient, but in the end most people buy imports. We just end up exporting it all our surplus, for quite a sum. I guess that's why we've haven't had a deficit yet."

He poked a shrimp through and ate it, then drank some water. "Anyways, going back to the whole government thing," Alvus said as he waved his fork around in the air. "The CEO and the Board of Directors handles all of that. Old men stuff," he said as he started breaking open his lobster. "But yea, my father is part of the "government." He's the Director of Defense. Homeland security and all that." He started poking the scallops.

Declan took another sip of his soda. "Hmm, it's only my first day here but it doesn't seem to bad so far. Allegheny doesn't really get many visitors from different countries so I was kind of surprised to see so many different kinds of people here." He said involuntarily glancing at Oke. "It's really bright here too, I am not used to this much sun, I think I'll have to get some sunglasses one of these days." Declan finished his truffle. "By the way, these truffles are delicious. I am sorry to hear about your homeland, it seems wherever you go these days you can't escape hearing about it. Especially around these parts. Although FPS must be a relatively safe place if your family saw it fit to send you here to be away from it."

Declan turned to Oke and forced a smile. "The silent type eh? The name is Declan." He said but he did not extend his hand. "So, will you just sit there and listen all creepy like or will you join into the conversation, you haven't even introduced yourself yet!" He said jokingly.

"Uh, I, I..." Caught off guard by Declan's sudden attention and implicit accusation of ignoring proper social protocol, Okë immediately found himself stumbling over his own tongue in his rush to blurt out an apologetic response. Any tone of joking had somehow managed to miss the great big ears perched on top of his head, a fact clearly advertized by the way they now flattened themselves in submission. "I'm very sorry for this, I did not want to be rude. You were still talking so I just wanted to wait for you stopping." The string of words fell in his accented and slightly awkward English finally tumbled rapidly out of his mouth when he'd caught his breath. "Really, I'm sorry." He apologized a second time to express his sincerity before moving to make amends for his social faux pas. "I'm glad for meeting, to meet, you Declan. My name is Omakta Okë." He concluded the panicked introduction with a curt downward nod of the head.

Kieran ate one of the crab legs as he listened to Alvus. "Wow," he said after drinking some of his tea.

"So, you're father is Director of Defense. What is that like," Kieran's mother asked before she ate some of her lobster and fries.

Kieran was fascinated. He wondered what the nations of the other students were like.
