A note for the record: nominations should be allowed for forty-eight hours, then voting should occur for seventy-two hours, per Section I, Subsection A, Part 2 of the Standing Orders of the Magisterium.

Considering what I wrote in my campaign thread, I would like to run as well.

I still don't know who to vote for. I know campaigning isn't really traditional, or at least I've never seen it... But I really don't know what to vote on other than a longer relationship I've had with one of you outside of TEP.

But that isn't fair to the other two, and I really would rather that not influence my vote.

I know there isn't really a leader yet, so there isn't anyone to make this decision. The standing orders don't allow or forbid campaigning but I really think short summaries of why we should vote for each would be really helpful when three people qualified to do the job are running.

That seems like a very fair request. There are definitely three highly qualified individuals seeking the office of Provost at this point, which I must say is pretty exciting, compared to past sessions. But I feel I am best suited for the position because of my Provost plans and my government experience.

If I am re-elected as Provost, I will try to create an active and accountable Magisterium, just as I did last session. I will hold regular roll call votes to ensure Magisterial activity, like I did last session, and I will motion to remove any Magister that misses a roll call vote without good reason, like I tried to do last session. I will continue to personal message Magisters to encourage participation in noteworthy debates and votes, like I did last session, and try to keep track of Magister activity through this means as well. I will carefully maintain the "Magisterial Record" that I created last term, to facilitate oversight of the Magisterium, and I will redouble my efforts to create a topically organized East Pacific Code to facilitate understanding of the laws of the region by newcomers. I will create a "bill template" and a "Concordat Amendment template," to make the proposal of new legislation easier. And I will propose legislation throughout the session(including several Concordat amendments, which I mentioned during the campaign) again like I did last session, so as to promote activity. Overall, I will ensure that the Magisterium remains active and accountable throughout this session, despite past trends, and I will make certain that the legislative branch retains its authority as sole regional legislator (which some recently discounted).

I feel particularly able to achieve these objectives because of my past experience. I wrote the current Standing Orders of the Magisterium, which puts me in a unique position to preside over the Magisterium, given that presiding essentially means implementing the Standing Orders. I wrote much of the Concordat and several current pieces of legislation, which means I can easily help revise bills and amendments to make them short but solid, which is very important when it comes to writing law. I served last term as Provost and the previous term as Magister, so I know how inactivity comes to exist in the Magisterium, and I can better counteract it. But most of all, I did a great job presiding last session (I heard no complaints about my presiding style), and I feel I can do just as well this session if I am elected.

I have a lot of plans if I am elected Provost and I have the legislative experience necessary to turn those plans into action. I only ask the opportunity to be allowed to do so.

Sure thing :fish:

My message from my campaign will not change for provost: the provost should be a leader that is assertive but at the same time not overbearing. We must believe that we are a team here, a team that can work together even when there are disagreements. And I’m going to give us every chance to get there. You’ll be getting PM’s from me informing you of debates and votes. You’ll see our events posted in a calendar, something that was very successful for the Conclave. You’ll have a routine, a routine that will be followed so that we all know what’s going on. You’ll have a dean and a pro tempore, and I will be giving them things to do. And if I don’t see you on the forums in a while, I’ll be sure to get your attention on MSN and/or NS itself. We’ve all made a promise to this region, to serve it under this body. And we’re going to do that.

Specifically, I believe the Magisterium can look around to find ways to keep itself busy. I’d like to focus internally by reviewing the standing orders, as I believe last term was handcuffed by being unable to remove inactive Magisters. And why isn’t it written in that those running for provosts should explain their directions? I think that’s kind of important. Based on those facts alone, we should review it. And I mean really review it: ask questions, be opinionated, and really go over it. We’re a diverse bunch this term and I really do believe we can establish more workable standing orders that will hold for terms to come. We should also explore old legislation that died on the floor, such as term limits, and explore new ones, such as establishing ambassador masks and how to obtain ambassador status. And we should always be open to citizens and Magisters proposing ideas, changes, and protocols. No citizen should feel like they can’t propose a change to our system. We’ll be sure to give all proposals a good look-over and discuss them. :)

But should we limit ourselves to the tasks of the Magisterium? Every term has seemed to run out of steam after a period of time. We need to keep things going strong. Why can’t we establish a seminar series for the spring in the University area where we come up with a list of speakers from inside and outside of TEP to give some life to that forum and get in some entertaining topics. Why not establish a holiday in the region, or a day of remembrance? Perhaps we could come up with a project idea to keep the region going strong during the spring or even summer months. Maybe the Magisterium could get together a reoccurring section in the newspapers even. These aren’t specifically stated as our duties, but why not? We’re a group of capable people – let’s use these three months to work for the region as well, a good balance so we don't run out of steam and don't burn out.

We can get active this term and remain active. We can iron out the problems of the past. We have the tools in creativity and dedication from every Magister here. We have the lumber we need to get the fire going through these cold wintry months. We’re all going to collect that lumber and working together to keep that fire fueled. Allow me to provide some sparks to keep our flame burning bright.

It’s going to be an exciting three months, let's get going! :mac:

I have had experience in various different roles in TEP and a UCR and I know I could get the job done easily.

As Provost, I plan to work with everyone from the other branches of government and citizens of the region. My style will be to moderate activity of the Magisterium, have bi-weekly roll calls, and to get as much done as can be done from day one until the next round of elections.

I want to see that every Magister gets to voice what they actually wanted to get done in their campaigns and bring it to full discussion. From our own thoughts and any ideas that citizens want to contribute also.

While my post is not as vast as my fellow candidates, that is because I don't really have a personal agenda of my own. The only thing I want to accomplish is a active three months and the ambassador mask situation.

Alright, everyone. The forty-eight hour nomination period expired about an hour ago. So, lets get onto the voting! 72 hours to vote!

Please select a candidate merely by stating the name of that candidate. Note that you may only vote for one candidate.

Given that the only Magisters who have not voted are those who have been nominated for the position of Provost and in order to move to the voting on the nomination of RNH as Arbiter, might I respectfully request that those nominated cast their ballots? Once all of us have voted, I would suggest that the 72-hr election period is not necessary and that we can get to work. =)

Well, considering one person already has the majority, I don't see any reason to extend this further.

That's fine, but why? We have seven Magisters this term. Four have voted for you. Therefore, by majority, you're the next provost. I should say if we have to wait on everyone to vote instead of waiting on the overall majority, I can see problems with that down the road.

Since we have a majority, I don't see why this should be still up in the air. Just saying we should get in the habit of being expedient but not at the cost of democracy here. We've got a provost now, my congratulations to him and to the body for having a good election. Now let's move on to other things that can be tackled! :mac:
