((Ignore my entry in the news forum, it's full of errors. I tried to make an old nation's history/elections work and it... didn't.)) New Dallas, East Spiralia, House of Governance, Presiding Citizen's Office. Joseph Webb sits at his U-shaped desk, the same desk that every Presiding Citizen has used since East Spiralia won it's independence from the Texan Empire. He is smoking a cigarette and examining a small stack of papers in front of him. Recently elected and more recently sworn in, he is still getting used to his office and his new post. His office is relatively ordered, but not quite finished yet. The important records and briefings are filed and most of the furniture moved in, but there are a few paintings waiting to be hung on the walls, sitting on the floor leaned against the walls under their future spots. The first act the newly installed majority in Congress passed was a resolution to open embassies and trade with the nations of the region of the East Pacific. The island chain had been largely isolationist since it's formation as a Socialist Democracy, but the people had expressed their desire to jumpstart the stumbling economy by opening trade and relations with nearby nations. Joseph just worried that his nation was walking on a path leading it to war with some expansionist nation that spied a weak nation ripe for the taking, but there were was a significant military established, one that through the use of drones could compete with any military in the world, as the automated factories of East Spiralia could make many new drones very quickly. Still, war was not something that Webb wanted, and not something that the people wanted. Well, these concerns would have to wait for when they came up, reasoned Webb. With a flourish, he signed the bill into law, and he turned and pulled a fresh stack of papers to start drafting a speech to go along with the announcement of the new law. A few days later, the Public Square, New Dallas. The Public Square is a free-access square, where anyone in the nation could speak about any issue, as long as they made an appointment beforehand. The Presiding Citizen stepped to the locally-legendary Podium of Free Speech and began his address, which was carried by major news outlets throughout the region. "People of East Spiralia and nations of the East Pacific, I come to you today to announce our nation's entrance into the world stage. We, as a nation, have decided to end our failed policy of isolationism, and have decided to open our nation to embassies and our resources to trade. We are a peaceful, developed Socialist Democracy, and any nation who demonstrates a commitment to human rights, democracy, and the ideal that rulers wield power based upon the consent of the people are welcome to open diplomacy in our capital, New Dallas. Diplomatic immunity is hereby granted to any who establish an embassy through the Department of Foreign Relations. It is extended to ambassadors, their family, and high level staff. If the press or the people have any questions, I will address them now. Yes, the man in the brown hat there." "Burford Griffen, ESNN, What does diplomatic immunity consist of?" "Diplomatic immunity, as established in the recently passed Ambassador's Act, consists of immunity from the laws of East Spiralia to the persons mentioned above. Exceptions include traffic laws and other public safety laws. In the case of suspected felony behavior, a diplomatic trial will ensue, with all the normal usage of defense and prosecution, the only change being that the maximum punishment is the expulsion of the convicted. Yes, the lady in the blue hat." "Amanda Kent, The New Dallas Free Press, what nations will East Spiralia be extending relations to?" "That is unknown at this time. Any who have an interest in opening relations may apply for ambassadorial rights, including the right to embassy and diplomatic immunity, upon presentation of validated credentials from the country being represented. Yes, you in the black hat." "Karl Ballard, Isolationist Party, what does this mean for our ideals of Socialism? Isn't it true that with the possibility of foreign capitalistic companies opening branches in our country, more of our credits will be spent on the products of Capitalism?" "Of course you have a representative here. It means nothing for Socialism. There are already capitalistic principles present in our society, including brand competition and entrepreneurial rights. Any further questions can be directed to the Deputy Chief of Policy, Press division. Thank you." Joseph Webb, Presiding Citizen, leaves the Podium of Free Speech and lights a cigarette on his way to the House of Governance. On the way, a man runs up to him wielding a knife. He is the same man who asked the question regarding the evils of Capitalism. Webb, away from his protective detail, sees him and expertly flips him with ease. The man lands on his back and Webb kneels on his chest, taking a drag of his cigarette. As he exhales, he says "You isolationists sure aren't inventive with your assassination attempts, are you?" His protective detail arrives before the man can respond and apprehends him. Webb continues on his way to the House of Governance. "If they're trying to kill you, you're doing something right," he mutters to himself as he passes the gates and heads to the doors. One week on the job and that was the third attempt on his life. |

((I'm just assuming our two nations worked out travel arrangements. Sending emails back and forth requesting flight times can be a bit boring, lol)) Arriving in East Spiralia, Elohyees Kustranse looked out the window of her Vekaiyun commercial jet as the aircraft touched down on the runway. The flight itself wasn't too hard on her - just the initial passage through Packilvanian airspace was a bit unsettling, especially with how the nation appeared below. Still, it was only for a short while. Most of the journey was ocean anyway. Rather than stare out upon the open waters, she fancied reading some of the various headlines in the paper she picked up before leaving Eldura. While it wasn't her position to really have a conflicting opinion on her nation, Premier Levinile's new policies were slightly unsettling. How would the nation continue forward under the new regime? What would that mean for foreign dignitaries like her? At least there was comfort in her job. Vekaiyu would never jeopardize a dignitary, she felt. Still it would prove to be an interesting experience. As she waited for the plane to come to a halt, she made sure her black skirt and jacket were in impeccable condition. She gave her black hair of middle length a final go over as she made sure her short tan fur wasn't caught on any part of her uniform. After scratching her muzzle, she smiled, and the vulpine female stood and walked toward the exit of the plane where stairs were undoubtedly being set up. |

OOC: I'm going to do the same thing as well. Eszter's plane, a Boeing 777, was nearing the airport of East Spiralia. She had heard that several other diplomats would be arriving as well. "This might be a good opportunity to open up relations with other nations at the same time as establishing relations with East Spiralia," she thought. The pilot contacted the control tower letting them know that the Vulshainian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Relations was on her way. "This is Confederate Diplomatic Flight 104-A requesting permission to land." |

Zonn Webb, Minister of Foreign Affairs, stood at the bottom of the stairs. A fairly sizeable group of reporters had set up a safe distance away. Zonn stood 6 feet tall and weighed about 185 pounds, and was dressed in a sharp tailored suit. He stood in the bright sun comfortably, and spoke over his shoulder. "Tell the tower to let that plane from Vulshain land already." One of the airport managerial staff behind him spoke into a microphone in his sleeve. He listened to his earpiece for a moment before saying "Confirmed, they'll be down in 10, sir." Zonn rolled his eyes. "Shut up with your "sir" crap. I thought that my brother had already issued that order to the holdovers from the last administration. Did it not reach down this far?" "Y-yes, si.... yes. It's just a habit," said the worker. "Don't piss yourself, son, I'm not gonna do anything to you if you say sir. I don't know where you people got this fear of your superiors from. Respect is appreciated, and returned. Fear is unnecessary," said Zonn. "Now shush, door's opening." He looked up at the vulpine coming down the stairway... and smiled. "Welcome to New Dallas, capital of East Spiralia. We'll be picking up another ambassador on our way to the House of Governance. Don't mind the photographers, they're nothing special, just covering the opening of diplomacy on our islands. Oh, I skipped a step didn't I? My name is Zonn Webb. A pleasure to meet you ma'am." "But why do you call her ma'am and yell at us for calling you sir?!" cried the worker. "I ain't yelled, yet. It's called being polite, son, didn't your mama teach you manners?" "Shutting up now." "That's better," said Zonn as he turned back to Elohyees. "I apologize for that..." |

"Elohyees Kustranse," she said with a smile and a very jerky handshake gesture, ignoring the bit of banter between the two men. "It is no trouble at all. And the pleasure is all mine." Her English was trimmed and polished - only the hint of an accent represented the kinks in the armor of her non-native tongue. From the pocket of her blazer jacket she removed a box about the size of a pack of cigarettes, but with an intricate vine-like pattern etched into the wood. "This is a gift from my country to yours. In this box contains the seeds of twelve jaku trees. Twelve is the most important holy number in Vayan Catholic mysticism, due to its symbolism and relation with other holy numbers." She smiled, though a camera flash caused her to flinch a little. "Please accept this gift as a token of our good will and welcoming to the international spectrum. Seeds represent the potential for growth, and may they, like relations, grow and flourish." |

"Thank you very much. My brother was saying a few days ago that he wanted to plant some trees on the grounds of the House of Governance. Now, if you please, we should go pick up our other visitor today, so let's hop in the limo." He smiled and walked over to the limo, and opened the door for her. "We'll pick her up, and head to the House of Governance, so you can meet Joseph, our Presiding Citizen. Sound good?" |

Eszter disembarked from her plane. She noticed a young Vulpine vixen speaking with a human man. "Seems Vekaiyu or Listonia have already sent their ambassador." Eszter then noticed the gift the Vulpine ambassador had given to the man who she assumed was the Minister of Foreign Affairs for East Spiralia. Right behind Eszter was her fiance, a tall Lobo dressed in a Vulshainian Confederate Ground Forces brown uniform with the rank of major. His fur was a mixture of reddish brown, white, and black colors. Eszter greeted both the Vixen ambassador and East Spiralian minister. "Hello," she said politely with a smile as she shook both of their hands. "I am Cantu Eszter Melisa, the Confederate Minister of Foreign Affairs and Relations--" Her Lobo fiance whispered in her ear. "Excuse me. I'm Hungarian, so I used the Eastern name order: surname before the given name. I apologize for the confusion. His Majesty, King Samuil Rainard, sends his thanks for opening relations with our nation. My apologies. Let me introduce you to Major Vaska Petiaran of the Vulshainian Confederate Ground Forces and my fiance." The Lobo major smiled and extended his hand to Minister Webb. "It is honored to be here, sir." |

"Zonn Webb, Minister of Foreign Affairs. This is Elohyees Kustranse, of Vekaiyu. Now, if you'll all follow me to the limo, we'll get you down to the House of Governance so you can meet our Presiding Citizen." He smiled and gestured to the open limo door. |

Dolphins Are Scary Animals That Eat People!

"Oh man. I can't believe this is happening!" The words of despair were muffled as the figure placed its face into its hands. "Hours! Hours! Errr...How could this be?" Norman Reyes was having a breakdown. He was the lucky fellow that was hand-picked by the President to serve as the country's representative to its newly opened neighbor. Why he was picked was unknown to him, having spent only two years at the Department of Foreign Affairs achieving close to nothing (As the DOFA was usually known for), although many of his co-workers agree that the President randomly picked him from a bucket of names. Being called to serve as an ambassador to another nation was enough to make a person rather nervous, being awkwardly late probably wouldn't help. "Mr. Reyes, we are entering East Spiralian airspace," notified the stewardess. They were currently flying over the ocean in a Air Force Gulfstream 550 reserved for VIPs, yet it seemed the lush interior of the aircraft did not do much to calm the nervous young diplomat. "Thanks," he replied shakily. "Please don't tell anyone about this." The stewardess simply gave him a small smile of confirmation and walked toward the galley. Luckily, with the cockpit door closed, she was the only one to have seen Norman's little burst of frustration. He sighed as he sat up in his seat and fixed his tie. The only thing to do now was to just try and make the best of it. Although, while lost in thought, he barely noticed the small creak made by a closing door. === 10 Minutes Later === Once the plane was only a few minutes away from the airport, the co-pilot radioed in to the East Spiralian ATC. "GAF Flight 0001, requesting landing clearance, over." "Roger GA0001, you are cleared for landing. Decrease speed and alter your course for runway 29R" "Understood, decreasing speed and altering course." As the conversation (If one might call it that) ended, the captain slowly entered the cockpit, closing the door with an unusually large amount of care, but leaving a small enough gap to peek through. "Um, sir? What are you doing?" "Shhhh. Keep it low.", whispered the captain. "You should have seen it! The guy was flipping out! He was banging his head on the table and pulling out his hair! Ha ha ha, nice." "Were you watching the ambassador? I thought you were using the can?", asked the co-pilot. "GA0001, you are coming in too fast, decrease your speed." "Well, I did. But as I reached for the door I heard the cries of frustration and such, and you know how interesting it is to see these VIPs go into fits!" "I know! Aw, shoot. I can't believe I missed that!" "GA0001, I repeat. Decrease your speed." "So, did he calm down or is there still something to see?", asked the co-pilot, who obviously did not hear the radio for some reason. "Ugh, nope. The guy's already peaceful and tranquil in his seat, not much to see." Answered the captain as he returned to his seat. Both of them finally managed to regain focus just as the third message came in. "GA0001, go around. Go around." "Oops, crap. We gotta stop having conversations during landing." the co-pilot said as he maneuvered the plane back toward the sky. "And takeoff. Don't forget about takeoff. Remember this morning?" "Aw yeah! That was great. Except Inception might have been too long for a pre-takeoff movie. We should go for something shorter next time." |
