So, we're approaching election time again, which got me thinking. Right now, we don't have set election dates, we just say that elections should occur around every three months (for the Magisterium) and every six months (for the Delegate).

Should we set some specific dates for election? Or, if not for election, for assumption of office? It may not be necessary -- the thought just occurred to me.

DO NOT WANT!!!!!!
Giving an exact date is probably a bad idea but saying 'during the first week of...' or something more vague like that might be nice.

As I mentioned in the other thread, figuring out when elections are is sometimes hard...

Concordat states: "The Arbiters shall elect from amongst themselves for a term of six months a Viceroy, who shall oversee the proceedings of the Conclave and administrate all elections in the East Pacific and represent the Conclave to the Magisterium and the Delegate."

Concordat grants Magisterium no authority to administer elections in any way.

No dispute there. If we want to do this, it'll definitely need to be an amendment to the Charter. I'm just wondering if its necessary or a good idea.

I sort of like the flexibility. If something's going on, or if the viceroy's not going to be there for a few days, or even if the forums happen to be down (just hypothetical here), it'd be better to be flexible instead of rigid. As long as they happen at about the same time when they are supposed to, I'm fine with it.

I support greater autonomy within the Magisterium. We need to decentralize some of the powers within the TEP gov't.

Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind.
I think the elections should stay at the discretion of the Viceroy. Elections are not announced so if the Viceroy was away for a couple of days then it would not matter since it is around the same time but kept on the more random selection for regional security.

It needs to be respected and not tampered with by this branch of government.

To be honest, I was unaware that there was a regional security risk requiring elections be randomly scheduled.

That aside, if this branch does decide to take action here (which seems unlikely), we won't be "tampering," we'll be using our authority pursuant to the Concordat.

Elections are not randomly scheduled. They are held pursuant to Concordat, which specifies months, not exact days or dates. They are labor intensive. One of the many factors that has to be considered is the Viceroy's RL schedule. Security, when citizens are likely to participate, the availability of players who assist Viceroy in accomplishing the task, and forum logistics are also relevant considerations.

Unless you propose to legislate with regard to elections, please stop posting that we're just about to have one and archive this thread. I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just asking. I will not elaborate.

Everyone knows the schedule. TEP has an election every other month.

Given the clear apparent opposition to such a measure, I suppose there's no point in keeping this going.
