I don't know who has permission to start thread here so since Todd has stated he intends to run and his nomination has been seconded by a citizen, I'll start.

Todd! Start with the campaigning.

I’d like to share my platform with you. It’s not rigid or all-inclusive; the game is too dynamic for that. With all the changes, region-growing, and in-game alterations that have been going on in recent months, there really can’t be any room for a rigid plan. Even so, the region itself is dynamic, so any platform should allow room for changes if they are necessary. That being said let me share some of my ideas with you.

I’m not a figurehead type of person - I like to get my hands dirty and help where I can. I don’t really care how hard or “impossible” a task may be. For me, a delegate is a person who represents the region and one who delegates some responsibilities within the region. But the delegation is a bit of a fine line. A delegate can’t do it all, nor should he or she feel compelled to. We have a lot of good people in the government here – that’s a great thing, and I want to see more of that. But we’ve been having some problems lately, namely, inactivity and communication problems. Both are not easy fixes, nor are they something I alone can fix. But we should all work to fix them and make TEP an even greater place.

Some of my goals this term are to reduce the amount of off and on site drama, improve communication, and build up the sense of community within this region. With regards to drama, I don’t really care who caused it in the past or who is to blame for whatever – it’s in the past and we’ll never get over it until we move on from all of it. I’m interested in finding solutions here, because if we don’t, we’re going to lose what we’ve worked so hard for here. If there are loose ends that need tying up, so be it, but they should be addressed, privately if possible. And I know hard feelings still exist here. And I’m aware some feel ‘left out’ or ‘outside the circle’. So we need to find things that bring us together. One idea I have is to have an “odd couple” newspaper team in which two people who don’t normally work together are selected to do one issue. Once they’re done, they select two people to do the next issue, etc. I’ve been doing the newspaper for two years now and it’s definitely time to end that and find new people to do it. Holding community events also help. A debate contest was successful two years ago; it can work again with the right coordination. Events that pull people to the forums should also be done. It doesn’t need to be something extravagant - we’ve had a history of making big projects then losing steam somewhere along the way, which led to disappointment. Let’s plan accordingly. Getting a little more personal might also help us understand each other better. Getting beyond the screen name or hearing others NS histories can get a community closer. Having seminars on NS or TEP history in the University can spark interest here too, especially if a good person is put in charge of such things. These are activities that probably won’t immediately help, but they will help over time.

Stressing the importance of TEP History and our culture, both past and present, will really help with understanding who we are as a region and will remove some of this old guard / new guard stereotype. In talking with some of you in January, I understand that is still a big concern among people here. That needs to end. I want to find ways to erase the stereotypes, the negative connotations, etc. We don’t need those. We all have real lives outside of these forums; this place should be an escape from drama and not a sentence to it. However, on the same token, we’re going to eventually encounter drama on the way, so it’d be naïve to simply find a correct-all for it. There is none. But there are ways to shorten its length and lessen its magnitude. A huge one is communication - if someone has a problem with someone else, it's their responsibility to let the other person know and both parties' responsibility to work it out in a calm collected manner. Bottom line: we’re a community and we’ve had our good times and bad times. I want to increase the good and diminish the bad. And I know we can do that.

We need to get new members here and keep them here. We’ve had some success here and there with new members, and that is definitely promising, but I can argue that our new nation rate on the forums have gone down. If you check the size of the region, it’s ballooned to include 1,000 new nations from six months ago. That’s over 25% of the region. That’s a huge untapped resource. I know we won’t get them all here, and I’d be shocked if we got 5% here, but hey, let’s get some new blood in here with new ideas and new ambitions. So, we’re going to need to get creative and work together to pull some of those new people over to here. We’re roleplay-strong, but we’re also government-strong too. We have the WA voting occurring on the forums – that is huge to get new people on the forums and it should have a place on the WFE to get people in here and get their voices heard. A dynamic and informative WFE will be helpful too. There’s much we have to offer here – let’s work to pull in the new guys and get them involved. Improving the atmosphere and the sense of community will help with that. Having an Officer of Tourism (maybe two to lessen the workload) to get one person in charge of this will really help. It is an often thankless job, but having their name on the WFE might help out a bit with that. Heck, even a mentor program could do the trick, plus it would encourage interaction among the older and newer nations. But I need you for all of this, so I’m going to count on you too to help our region.

Through all of this, we should get more people on the forums. We’ll have the old members interacting with the new and improve relations and communication. We’ll host events and competitions to keep things exciting here. We’ll have more people working together. In getting people to the forums we’ll introduce new blood and hopefully see how they handle our government. I expect the numbers in the Magisterium to increase and a good delegate election with at least two candidates six months from now. We might even bring back some of the members that went AWOL or who are lurking. All this will hopefully happen. We might have setbacks - that goes with anything. It happens. If adjustments need to be made, they will be made. But I need input.

What I’m trying to say is I’m not looking for a return to the way things used to be here. That’s not good enough. I want them better, better for everyone. My platform includes us and not just me, which means this is something we all need to be a part of. It’s going to be hard, but we’re doing it because it is hard, and because we’re TEP, the region that ousted dictators and didn’t give up when all seemed lost roughly 2.5 years ago. We fought back and won. Just as it was then, it applies to now. We can make this place better, and with your help, we will.

Thank you for your time. I’ll field any questions now.

I've got no question, but, I'd like to state my support for Todd. We need a Delegate right now that can rejuvenate this region; Todd proposed a lot of ideas to that end as a Magister and I really think he'll do great as the chief executive (just like he did last time).

Question 1
If TEP will elect you again, do you promise you'll go for those on-line lessons about The gift of summarization- why textwalls should be banned from all forums?!?  ;) ;)

Question 2
On a more serious tone, your possible election would create a void chair down in the Conclave. As a Delegate, you'd have to find a suitable replacement. Could you please describe the criteria you'll follow to choose said person?

Hahahaha, I know I'm long winded. I'll try the abstract approach, not in that I will be suddenly thinking too far outside of the box, but instead meaning I'll be a bit more brief and not TL;DR (too long; didn't read) ;)

Well, as with anything I will be looking for a responsible individual who can help out that department . I will speak to those who I have in mind, confirm that with the Viceroy to hear her opinion, then bring it forward to the Magisterium.

I can't say I have just one person in mind - I think part of the reason for the lack of activity is we're all set in our ways and many have been identified with a certain position for a long time now. Look at me, I've been the map guy, the endo checker guy, and the newspaper guy. That's too many for one person to be doing for such a long time, especially if there are other capable people who could serve in those roles. One of the key things I'm wanting to do is get new people involved, encourage people to take on new jobs, and find good fits to make things more exciting. I can't do this alone of course, and I will be limited in what I can and can't do, but I have already begun to think about these things.

Although I am not a confirmed citizen yet I fully endorse todd as it is because of him that I am in this region still and not in any other region. Therefore he has my immigrant support. And i hope he can get all of your citizen support!
