Hello!

Some of you might know of me already due to my various areas of activity in the world of NationStates. I am most commonly known as "A mean old man," though my original nation, which I founded in 2003 and neglected for a number of years, is the one currently residing in TEP (Topdop).

I am currently involved in The Pacific, The South Pacific, and The East Pacific, as well as The North Pacific, Osiris, and Balder (on a lesser scale). I dropped my UCR ties about two years ago and decided to shift my loyalty and activity to the feeders alone (while still participating in the World Assembly Security Council on the side). I've been present in TEP for approximately two years now. I was a Magister in TEP twice. I was also Speaker of The North Pacific's Regional Assembly for a term, am currently Head of the WA Committee in The Pacific, and am an Election Commissioner in The South Pacific. I served as an election commissioner in Osiris when it was born and during a state of chaos to help the region hold fair delegate elections and get off its feet. I worked with Krulltopia and Todd McCloud to get the Modern Pacific Alliance started, wrote the original Treaty and Values, and am currently a member of the MPA Assembly under The Pacific (something that will undoubtedly have to change if I win this election). Should I win the delegate election in TEP, I will resign as MPAA representative for TP and as Head of the WA Committee in TP, as it would not be fair to hold both positions while being delegate of The East Pacific. On a less relevant note, I've authored ten WA resolutions (1 GA, 9 SC) and have co-authored seven.

I recently participated (and am still participating; it's ongoing) in Todd's "Future Delegation" program, which has been both enjoyable and helpful by aiding me in refining certain actions that I would have to make were I a feeder delegate. Thank you, Todd, for taking time out of your schedule to pull that together.

I've never held a position of this kind of magnitude and responsibility, but after being so heavily involved in regional politics I know that I can handle it. I also trust myself to work hard and be the best delegate for this region that I can be. On ideology: it is my strict belief that all feeder regions should be able to govern themselves independently and make decisions based on what they believe is best for their own communities before what is best for the interests of foreign ones. Our politics should be free of outside influence and skewed or manipulated incentives.

We must also cherish and enrich our connections with our close neighbors in the other feeders/sinkers; we're all in similar boats, and we must stick together if we are to thrive. UCRs can also provide rich and productive connections, and I am open to interaction with almost any kind of UCR, regardless of political ideology or R/D leaning/affiliation (GGR being one of the obvious exceptions here...).

I've been thinking about what I'd want to do for TEP as its delegate. There are some things that obviously require attention, our general activity to name one. I'd probably start as delegate by bothering every WA nation in the region, not only to endorse me, but to get involved in the forums. I'd like to increase WA membership in the region (even though WA membership is already impressively high). I would like to make the Endo Watch more active and fun, and will make a list of every WA nation in the region which I will try to update at least once every few weeks.

I would work to make the WA voting system in TEP more active and interesting and would have WA proposals which attained quorum added to vote on as well. Depending on how strongly TEPers feel on an issue, they might also want their delegate to vote early on it. I'd introduce a "stomp" aspect to the vote, where those who vote in the forums would also be able to vote in favor or against a stomp, which would either use TEP's considerable voting power to push the resolution it is voting on forward very early on or make an early attempt to crush it.

I'm very aware of TEP's long and detailed roleplaying history. While I don't roleplay often myself, I'd be interested to hear from this community to see if there is anything I could do to improve their experience. I have various connections that could assist in this area.

There are other ideas I've been tossing around in my head, but I'll take a break and allow others to comment and/or ask questions. To conclude my opening post, I'd like to say that I have been extremely impressed by The East Pacific over the couple years I've watched its activity. While its government is having a few minor problems at the moment, it has been stable and efficient overall. TEP has a unique and strong community that I would be honored to be elected the political figurehead of. Even if I don't win this election, it will be a pleasure to have run and it will not stop me from continuing to participate in TEP in the future.

Thank you.

Oh, and considering the elections are kind of backwards right now and this one is being held before the Magisterium's ... I'm not quite sure what to do about that. Would I resign as Magister if I won, or should I do that now? The cycle is kind of screwed up and I'm a bit confused, so if anyone here has an answer (or if you're just as uncertain as I am), please let me know.

As no one can serve concurrently as a delegate and a magister, you can resign from the magisterium if you win. If you don't, you could then remain as a magister and run again for the next magister elections.

I suppose that, somewhere along the list, you have to add RL too. Now this brings a quick question. The Delegacy of a Feeder requires dedition... and time. Would you be able to cope, with so many concurring duties/loyalties/involvements?

I have a few comments, but first, thank you for your intent / mission, outlined in your original post.

Where do you stand on the current endocap: is it fine where it is or should it be altered? Also, how would you go about doing the endo watch? Speaking as someone who's done it for a while, listing all WA nations in the region would make for a long list and quite an endeavor to undertake every few weeks.

I don't personally believe it's the delegates duty to improve roleplay, however I am comforted when a candidate realizes the importance of roleplay to the TEP community. In my opinion, roleplay in TEP has slowed a bit recently, partly due to people having things to do outside of the game I'd imagine, but also due to there being a low in the amount of interest in it. Do you have any insights into this problem?

Also, what is your opinion on foreign affairs and relations with other regions?

Good question.

I would. My involvement in Osiris and Balder is only superficial now; I am currently a citizen in these regions and nothing more. The most I have to dedicate to these regions is logging into my puppet nations there once every 28 days.

I do not participate in TNP to the extent that I used to. Currently all I have to do to stay in the Regional Assembly is not miss two consecutive votes and make sure to post once every 30 days (though I'm considering halting this, as I've lost a lot of interest and confidence in TNP and don't know if I really want to be a member of the RA there anymore).

My duties in The Pacific are not demanding (and I would be relieved of them if I won this election). Most of what I do as Head of the WA Committee is put resolutions to vote in the forum. My duties in this position in TP often merge with my WA activity and I end up helping people like Jeux II write and pass resolutions. I sometimes work on some extraneous things for Krull (such as mass-telegram or write things in the forum). I'm not burdened in TP.

As an Election Commissioner in TSP, my services are only called upon several times over the course of the year and even then they are not especially taxing. I have to make sure that everything is laid out properly and on schedule, but I have two other people to ease the (already minor) burden. It's a great system. I will have to serve in TSP's Court very soon, but that will be a temporary engagement.

A number of things I do for my involved regions are on-the-side projects, such as the Pacific Gamers' Alliance (which I ought to check in on and update, actually) and unofficial police work (for example, the team effort to take down "Black Pineapple" and my recent defeat of "Frak," who turned out to be Haxstree/Anur-Sanur).

I do not lack experience in demanding roles, but currently hold no truly taxing positions and I have set up my schedule to become very relaxed in other areas if I become delegate of The East Pacific. It will be easy to focus as much attention as I can on TEP if I am elected.

I think the 80 endorsement cap is reasonable in TEP, considering the delegate tends to have 200+ endorsements and 80 is both a very safe distance below that and a high enough number to keep (most of) the tarters happy.

Actually, as I was tarting I found it fairly easy to simultaneously make this list. It'd be an annoying task to repeat so frequently, but that doesn't particularly bother me. I'm used to carrying out mundane and tedious assignments and completing them is always rewarding in a strange way.

Lobbying for so many WA resolutions has helped me in this area. :P

I noticed the slow in activity, and I'm wondering if introducing some new RPers to the forum would spark some resulting and interesting activity. I'm also considering getting involved myself and possibly starting some kind of large-scale alliance which would ultimately cause an intricate conflict; RP seems to thrive off of conflict. But it ultimately comes down to what the RPers in TEP want and think. This has been their home and I'm not going to affect it in a fashion that they wouldn't appreciate.

As I said, I'm open to relations with all foreign entities so long as they respect our way of doing things and so long as they're not horrendously offensive. I think that feeder/sinker solidarity is extremely important, and I'd definitely want to keep our current allies very close and try to pull the others closer. I'd like there to be more venues for our communities to mingle and communicate (TEP's debate contest was a good social activity for a number of us to participate in). While social interaction is nice, I also think that we could use more integrated discussion of NS/regional/feeder/sinker politics, and occasionally bumping into each other on the NS forums isn't enough. I'd like to direct a number of more active people from the feeders and sinkers to the MPA forums and set up some kind of discussion area there with a multitude of threads on various topics.

Just noticed I didn't quite answer this exactly.

I'd participate in it myself, but would also like to get other TEPers involved. I'm thinking that I'll do a weekly featured nation in the WFE (I'd set up some rules for it; the nation would not be allowed to advertise a foreign region in any way, would not be allowed to display any potentially offensive material, et cetera) and possibly have that revolve around participation in the endo watch, though I don't quite know how I'd work that out yet.

To follow up on this: I have halted this activity, as I have not participated in at least 2 consecutive votes in the RA and have asked to be removed from the Assembly by the Speaker. So you can cross TNP off that list now.

Thats why you resigned from your duties only the other day. Its sad that you have lost faith in TNP, but I am afraid you are not the only one. Good luck in this election, I'm sure you will do well.
