Allegheny Q and A

I made one because they are all the rage! Ask and I will answer. DO IT!

Questions will be listed by when they were asked.

  1. What laws does Allegheny have on food preparation? (Warr)

Allegheny has a regulatory committee similar to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), all meats prepared in restaurants must be of good fresh quality and cooked long enough to destroy biological impurities and diseases that may have been present in the animal when it was slaughtered. This also applies to foods made out of eggs. It is illegal for stores to lie about the quality of their food products, companies are required to put the proper labels on their food product.

Prep must occur in clean environments so that diseases and impurities do not spread to other food items. Food serving establishments are regularly inspected for cleanliness and those who do not receive passing grades are shut down until it is determined that the problem has been fixed. Tampering with food such as poisoning it with chemical substances and/or bodily fluids carries a fine of five million credits and 25 years in jail.

It is illegal to feed animals large amounts of corn as corn feed has been found to increase obesity in the people who eat corn fed meats. All meats are grass fed leading to leaner more healthier meat but longer growing times.

Regulation on food preparation does not carry over to private citizens, citizens may prepare their foods however they wish in accordance to personal preference and religious law. The government maintains the stance that if you kill yourself and your family by improperly cooking your food then you were too stupid to be alive in the first place. However the government has made several proper food prep guidelines for private citizens to use in their homes, these are provided free of charge by the Department of Agriculture.

  1. Who is in charge of Allegheny? (Bai Lung)

Allen Gordon is the President of The Union Republic of Allegheny. As president he is commander in chief of the entire military and is the highest in the military’s chain of command. However he usually relegates those tasks to his Supreme Commander, only stepping in when he feels the wrong choice has been made. As president he signs bills and dictates foreign policy. He is the face of Allegheny’s leadership. However he does not have full control.

The Union Senate has the most power, they create laws and represent the needs and wants of the people. They can override most of the decisions that the President can make on his own. However they do not have the true power.

The true power truly lies with the citizenry itself. The Senate and President dare not follow the word of the people. The citizenry vote on all major decisions that have direct effect upon them. This makes legislating take longer but allows for a true representative republic. The constitution allows the people to remove politicians who they no longer have confidence in. The president can be removed if 70 percent of the entire population votes in favor of having him removed. Senators can be removed if 70 percent of their district votes in favor of removal. Once removed a special election is held to replace the position. Because of this law politicians rarely move out of step of the people’s whim when voting on new legislation.

Currently no government leader has been removed in a no confidence vote.

So the answer is the people wield true power over the country.

  1. Can you name some of the major political parties in Allegheny? (Bai Lung)

The first and most popular party is the Union Party. The Union Party follows the conservative ideal. They have a majority in the Senate, the Supreme Court, and hold the office of the President. Allegheny is a far right conservative, capitalistic country and so therefore the Union Party will most likely hold power for a long time.

The second is the Democrat party, they are an old left over from the civil war. They hold a 20 percent stake in the senate, however their voting record follows that of the Union Party because they are afraid of being removed entirely from governmental affairs. This party represent the center-left minority of Allegheny, they have been accused of being closet socialists who are trying to secretly change how the government works so that they can gain control.

The third is the secretive communist party, they hold absolutely no power whatsoever and not much is known about their membership. Nobody from the Communist party ran in last two consecutive elections.

  1. Just how many countries do you have diplomatic relations with? (Bai Lung)

Only a few at the moment. Large business contracts have been created between Vekaiyu, Listonia and Allegheny.

  1. “Praise the lord and pass the ammunition.” How many Alleghenian Soldiers/Airmen/Corpsmen would agree with this statement? (Warr)

A large amount soldiers practice a religion, therefore this statement is one most could agree upon.

  1. How does Allegheny’s military system work, exactly? (Warr)

The Armed Forces of Allegheny consist of only an Air Force and an Army due to Allegheny’s landlocked nature, at one time the military was small and was solely based on volunteers but with the rising tensions building on The East Pacific’s western continent President Gordon and the senate changed how recruitment was handled. Now all men who reach the age of 19 must serve a mandatory two years in either the Army or the Air Force. This law does not apply to women however women may volunteer for the military and are allowed to serve in any role a man would serve in. Women in the Alleghenian military has been common for quite some time, some of the best soldiers have fought alongside their male counterparts in the history of Allegheny. Currently the most powerful position of Supreme Commander of the Armed forces is held by a woman named Cassandra Phillips. Under her two Commanders are in charge of the Army and the Air Force, they consult with the Supreme Commander and formulate strategy and policy, these two men are General David Shepherd and General Eric Sullivan, under them lies a network of generals and other officers which forms the command structure of the Alleghenian Armed Forces. Details on current active and reserve manpower are classified.

Typical Alleghenian soldiers are linked up to a network of computers which tracks them and receives data, officers use this network to issue orders and define locations. This quick communication asset allows the military to coordinate with each other and reduce friendly fire incidents, it also has increased unit combat effectiveness. When a Soldier reaches the rank of E-4 which would be a Private First Class in the Army and Airman First Class in the Air Force, the soldier is sent to a hospital to receive combat enhancements such as ocular implants to help them see farther, implants in the ear for better hearing, genetic manipulation is done to increase the stamina, strength, and fighting ability which is followed by a series of drugs that increase blood flow and focus. These enhancements are all provided free of charge by the government in the interest of building a better fighting force.

Alleghenians know only total war, when committing to battle the entire country is expected to do their part. Because of this philosophy combat areas will most likely be completely destroyed. The Air Force will run carpet bombing missions everyday while fighters concentrate on air to air combat. Infantry and mechanized infantry will move as quickly as possible through enemy territory. Commanders will shell areas while infantry conduct operations. Danger Close is a common term when ordering attacks, artillery and close air support will be called in as close as 600 meters or 1,968.5 feet from friendly infantry. Carpet bombing will never be employed that close to infantry and is reserved for areas behind enemy lines.

  1. Are the augmentations requirements or are they voluntary? I could see people’s religions getting in the way of it, for sure. (Warr)

All are required.

  1. What is the military strength of Allegheny? (Bai Lung)

The potential total war numbers are up to 2 million, during peace 200,000 active, and during escalated times 600,000 active. This is also complimented by a currently strong economy and a unethical command structure. The last major conflict Allegheny fought was against itself, the country was almost completely wiped off continent.

  1. What is the current exchange rate of the Alleghenian Credit to say, the Warreic Luminata? [Within Allegheny itself, that is] How about to the Bai Lungese Dollar to the Alleghenian Credit? (Warr)

This question i cannot answer. If anyone knows anything about creating an exchange rate for fictional currencies please PM me. I can tell you that $1.32 Universal Standard Dollar is equal to #1.00 Alleghenian Marks. According to the NS calculator thing.

10.Do Border areas within Allegheny allow the use of the Bai Lungese Dollar and the Allegheny Credit unofficially, or do you have to go trade your money at money changers before you can buy anything? (Warr)

No. The Alleghenian Government does not want foreign currencies to start circulating within it’s system. All border businesses are barred from accepting a foreign border currency. All airports and immigration centers have currency trading systems. They are handled electronically, a visitor can hand in his countries currency where it will be converted in to Marks and placed on an electronic card. It is illegal for these currency trading establishments to actually hand out a physical Mark.

  1. How many people work in Allegheny’s “Ministry for questions and answers”? (Reziel)

Only two, who work in an office of the Ministry of History and Information. They are both clinically insane. One of them named Tom was caught developing a scheme to take over the entire senate with the use of psychedelic drugs, however he was acquitted and had his job reinstated because of insufficient evidence. The other named Sally has an obsession with writing utensils.

  1. What foods are popular in Allegheny? (Warr)

Anything you would find in a typical Pennsylvanian setting. I don’t really go to deep into this stuff for my RP.

**13. What are the primary food stuffs? (Warr)

Oh you know, beef, grains. Allegheny grows most of it’s own foods locally. Whatever cannot be grown in Allegheny is something they go without as importation of products is restricted to only a few items per year.

  1. Are Allegheny Style Cheese Steaks the best in the whole East Pacific? (Warr)

This must be a rhetorical question, of course they are!

  1. What kind of music do kids in Allegheny listen to? (Warr)

Usually rock and roll in the classic style. 80’s style rock is still very popular among kids. Usually it’s the same for adults. Big Band and classical orchestra music is also very popular among adults and sometimes children.

  1. Does Allegheny invest a lot into the arts? If so, what sort of art is common for Allegheny both past and present? (Todd)

No there are a few government grants but they are only through the district level governments. The Federal Government does not invest much at all. Art depicting the civil war and the following terrorist actions are common. Portraits are popular along with landscapes. Photography is also a popular medium of conventional art.

  1. Also, if Gordon was given a ‘final drink’, what would it be? (Todd)

Whiskey! :stuck_out_tongue:

  1. Favorite method of transportation in Allegheny? (Bai Lung)

Automobile and then Airplane. There are limited commuter trains in the inner cities, but they do not connect to other cities.

  1. What sort of genetic manipulations is Allegheny capable of? Are they advocates of voluntary human experimentation (or maybe involuntary, lol!)? (Todd)

Allegheny has been practicing eugenics for some time now, at least 80 years now. In general Alleghenian Humans are slightly stronger and more resilient to disease and outside conditions then the standard… however this difference is slight at best… Eugenics is still practiced in smaller forms these days but Alleghenian doctors realized that trying to breed perfection into humanity only did so much and so they took prisoners and began to experiment on them. Halfway through the trials the military took over the projects and ramped them up. Several therapies have been created that have the ability to increase blood flow to important organs, increase muscular strength and increased reaction times. However do not be alarmed the Alleghenian soldier is not the unstoppable juggernaut you might think he or she is. These therapies are supplemented by drugs that increase the threshold of pain and fight of exhaustion. The ocular implantation is an intrusive irreversible procedure that is preformed upon the entire structure of the eye. Drugs used during the procedure cause a loss of melanin which turns the eye color blue. It is actually rare for an Alleghenian to be born with blue eyes, the most common colors being green and brown. The implants are capable of a limited zoom function and a heads up display can be displayed in the users vision with a separate implant. Low light vision is increased, but night time vision is almost the same as an un-augmented person. Augmentations are only given to conscripts who sign on as contract soldiers, which many usually do.

  1. Also, could you give me a bit of background to the Fortress City of Rochester? (Todd)

The heart of Allegheny’s military industrial complex, Rochester is a closed city and only those with security clearance can enter. All stores are owned by the design bureaus as is the same with on site housing and apartment buildings. the city itself is walled off and surrounding it is the prestigious Rochester proving grounds. It is determined that at least two hundred people a year are killed when accidentally entering the proving grounds, usually caused indirectly by the weapons tested there and not because of security reasons. All augmentation procedures were created here and are administered here. Contract soldiers begin their first tier of advanced training here where they are brutally brainwashed into fervent nationalism. Second tier training takes place in the harsh environments of the east.

21.What are Allegheny’s opinions on different races, ethnic groups, species, etc.? Does it promote racial equality? (Vulshain)

Allegheny tolerates all races, but sees it’s own ‘brand’ as racially and genetically superior. Racial equality in Allegheny is sort of a joke. For those visiting temporarily they will not be affected… but for example, Vekaiyun Vulpines that live in Allegheny live and work in the worst conditions in the industrial hell of the east. Allegheny property managers and real estate agents make it impossible for them to move west, even though technically it is legal for them to do so. This is not particularly publicly known, but it’s not hidden either.

  1. Also, since Allegheny has no navy, how does it protect itself from attacks by another country’s navy (i.e. ICBMs fired from subs, fighters launched from aircraft carriers, etc.)? (Vulshain)

Allegheny is land locked so a sea faring nation that doesn’t border shouldn’t really see it as a threat. Allegheny has several missile defense systems in place for just such the occasion and the Air Force patrols regularly, Radar posts are very common. Allegheny also fields it’s own Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles, dubbed Regulus. They are capable of reaching a max range of 3,500 Nautical Miles.

  1. What is the Alleghenian legal and justice systems like and how are they set up? (Vulsh)

Trials are fair for first class citizens, you will be arrested and tried by a jury of your peers and depending on your defense and evidence served it’s possible to win. If you are a second class citizen or a foreigner visiting, Trials are rigged and you will be sent to jail and most likely die within a few months. You really don’t want to be arrested in Allegheny or even go to jail there.

  1. Do Alleghenian law enforcement officers read a suspect his rights, as they do in many other countries, such as the United States? (Vulsh)

HAHAHAHAHA! No. Everything can and will be used against you, even against first class citizens, It’s best you shut up when arrested.

  1. Are there any requirements to run for President and what are they? (Vulsh)

Over 30 and born in the country to parents who were born in the country.

  1. Has the government attempted to try and set up laws to protect the environment?(vulsh)

Only in the west and middle regions of the country.

  1. Has much of the government is influenced or controlled by big business? (Vulsh)

The government usually ignores the business and lets them do what they want, so the businesses do not need to control it.

  1. What is Allegheny’s stance on the hiring and usage of mercenaries? (Vulsh)

Allegheny only hires mercenaries from approved private military corporations that operate within it’s borders.

  1. How do people dress, or in other words, is there a cultural style of fashion? (Vulsh)

Most people middle class and up will wear dress much more formally, suits and dresses are common business wear with more informal versions for home use. T-shirts are more commonly used as underwear or exercise wear. Jeans are quite uncommon west of the city of Elyse. To wear Jeans and a t-shirt as everyday fashion will cause people to think said wearer is poor and cannot afford it. Dressing ‘within your class’ is the appropriate method in Allegheny with more expensive outer wear worn by the rich and cheaper versions worn by the middle class. Jeans and denim are more commonly used as work apparel by the oil workers in Plainview and factory workers East of Elyse city.

  1. Do different branches of the military wear different colors and styles of uniforms? (Vulsh)

Standard dress uniforms are Gray tunic, very light blue shirt, black tie and black pants. Ranks are displayed upon the shoulder, upper sleeve and on Beret (Note: Rank badges are only displayed on the Beret for officers Lieutenant and up), this applies to all branches. The color of the wearer’s beret denotes Branch and in one special case Rank. Black beret’s are worn by the Army while dark blue ones are worn by the Air Force, and tan for Special Operations. The Red Beret is special use only and issued only to the current Supreme Commander General.

A combat uniform is also issued, used by both the Army and Special Operations Unit. It can be found in a special digital disruptive pattern, one for woodland, winter, urban and desert operations. The Air Force is equipped with a solid olive drab jump suit for flight combat operations and ground operations.

  1. Explain the symbolism in the red beret! (DFD)

Red is a special color in Allegheny, on the flag it symbolizes the blood spilled during the civil war. For the military it had a much more practical use, in the days were radio use was not very prevalent during combat operations commanding officers would wear red on their heads, during parades and non combat situations it would take the form of a red peak cap or other article relevant to the uniforms of the time, during combat it might have been a red bandanna tied around their helmets. This would make it easier for soldiers to keep their commanders in sight or find them during hectic situations, unfortunately it also made them easier to find for enemy snipers, it didn’t last too long. After reunification when the days of old where sort of romanticized it came back into a limited use and when the Supreme Commander position was created it was limited to that position to distinguish it as a non-branch specific position or commander of all branches of the relevant military at the moment.

  1. What is a state dinner like? Also, how does Allegheny conduct state visits and state arrival ceremonies? (Vulsh)
