[AU] The Legends of the Gods and Heroes of Greece

Updates for Greece! (OOC: I don’t want to post anything too dramatic until Zeus has a chance to respond to some developments, same with Hades):

knock-off, upon astounding the city-state of Ithaca so impressively, has their complete loyalty. Ithaca is under the influence of knock-off!. “Your wishes are our command, my Queen.” Odysseus stated, while flipping two water containers onto each other. knock-off has also become the goddess of speed, victory, flipping, and the dab!

Pan, in his generosity, has given the gift of wine to the city-state of Elis! the people there originally were under the influence of Zeus, but after days of parties and debauchery, they cannot remember their own names! Elis is under the influence of Pan! Not only that, but when the farmers of Elis have plowed their fields, none other than perfect grape vines for wine-making sprout instantly. The ‘nymphs’ have been returned to the city, and Satyrs and humans mingle in the city streets.

Well, it can certainly be said that Cadmus has been busy. After gaining Chiron, he has been immediately sent to train the soldiers of Thebes. He also was able to kill some Nemean Lions, and has kept a pelt for himself and given multiple pelts for the Spartan army. Sparta welcomed the gift with open arms, knowing how incredibly useful it will be once they march to take Athens and ‘save’ Zeus.

Syracuse has finished mobilizing their fleets, and have begin to sail towards the city-state of Rhodes. They will be likely be looking for allies to help them close off the trade routes of Eretria.

The map will be updated to reflect these developments.

The new updated map can be found here, and also on the original post:

knock-off pondered her battle plan. Odysseus hated Poseidon, or the other way around: it didn’t really matter. That might help.
“Prepare your navy,” knock-off proclaimed to the king.
The goddess discovered that the navy the city-state had created would not be enough to cause major damage on their side of the war, so she had to have a backup plan.
“Also, ready your men. Build walls. Anything to keep this place afloat. This may be your last stand in the future, so take heed to my verbiage.”

((I referenced the ‘power levels’ of Ithaca, as to allow full preparation there.))

Zeus told Theseus, “Here is an olive tree. Plant it, care for it, and it will bring you treasures.”

He left, and appeared in front of the mobilizing Spartans, who knelt before him. “I am king; my word is law.” He proclaimed. “You are to stop in Argos, and use your army to spread the word of Zeus to Aegina. I repeat, you are to invade Aegina.” The commander grudgingly agreed.

Zeus also happened to know what happened in Elis. “ALCOHOL???” He snarled. “Two can play at that game, sucker.”

He appeared in full glory - lightning and all - in front of the townspeople of Elis, still intoxicated. Zeus boomed, “HOW DARE YOU STRAY FROM THE PATH??”

The townspeople groveled and cowered. Zeus then smiled serenely. “Because you have cowered and repented adequately, I brought you a gift. You have experienced alcohol. That is fine; however, the fact that Pan gave you it is inexcusable. Wine is hard to make, so I brought you this.” Zeus hefted a large metal contraption. “It is a kraft beer dispenser! Use it well.”

Townspeople started lining up to drink. Zeus grinned, and said, “I also brought you some flowers. They are called poppies. Don’t they smell wonderful? Now, use these seeds, and you can make opium. However, if you stray from me again, I will take them from you. Is that clear?”

They solemnly nodded and continued their revelry.

“If Pan ever shows up here again, you have my permission to evict him - with violence if necessary.” Zeus added.

To: Sons (Perseus, Cadmus, Heracles)

Hello!

Zeus here. As sons of Zeus, I invite you all to come to a meeting in Aegina. We can discuss our influence, and how to best proceed with Poseidon, knock-off and Pan.

When it comes to Poseidon, I believe that he can be taken. With possibly knock-off’s and Hade’s help, we could easily take Corinth and possibly Syracuse. We have done so already (see Athens). Now, we need to spread our influence farther. Once you turn in the cities to my influence, you can let your empires spread - I will it. To put it figuratively, you are pawns - very valuable pawns. Please do not fail.

I suggest we take Delphi and Corinth. What do you suggest?

Sincerely,
Zeus.

(OOC: Apologies, I was at a wedding all weekend, so I was not able to do timely updates)

The Oracle at Delphi has been abducted! It is currently not known who has taken the Oracle, but this is a serious crime. The Oracle is a neutral being, giving wisdom to whoever asks for it. I fear that one being currently has a monopoly on the Oracle, and will receive an, albeit cryptic, advantage in the events to come.

knock-off, upon fortifying and mobilizing forces, has improved the defenses of Ithaca. Due to her moves on both land and sea, the fabled Greek hero Jason has joined her side! Jason brings along with him a small company of his Argonauts, fierce and heroic warriors they are, and the famous ship The Argo!

The Athenians, upon receiving the olive tree, have set about diligently planting and caring for it. Their priests and townspeople have focused their efforts on setting up offerings to Zeus, and are unconcerned at the moment with their military forces, or their bustling democracy. ‘We must do this, people of Athens,’ President Theseus said whilst thinking, ‘if we can appease Zeus as such, perhaps we will not be invaded for the time being, and he will stop making our lives worse. We were THIS close to getting attacked by Sparta…’

The Spartans, on the other hand, upon receiving clear instruction by their Patriarch, have left their military planners and supply lines in Argos as the rest of the army marches towards Aegina. Aegina, fearing the worst, is looking to allies for help.

Poseidon shakes the very earth with rage. ‘ZEUS!! If you bring your Spartan dogs anywhere near Corinth, I will make them regret ever being born!’ The Spartans have moved their encampment to the far east of the Isthmus that is near Corinth, afraid to move any more north they receive Poseidon’s wrath. Because of Poseidon’s rage towards his brother, the spider-woman Arachne has joined the side of Zeus!

The citizens of Elis, upon being sobered by a truly sobering entrance by Zeus, have again become under the influence with the introduction of beer and opium. The sweet smell of the poppy seed combined with the bitter smell of the beer has caused several dozen harpies to descend upon Elis, terrorizing the stoned populace! Food also seems to be wolfed down faster, as many of the women in the city appear to be eating for two…

The Syracuse navy has reached the Peloponnesus, and is currently off the coast of Sparta. They have dispatched emissaries to Rhodes, Corinth, Athens, and Aegina, to talk strategy in terms of a blockade of Eretria, if any of the leaders will have them.

To Zeus:

From Cadmus:

Father, I will head to Aegina as requested for the meeting in order to discuss the recent events that have unfolded.

Sincerely,

Cadmus
King of Thebes

“Set sail for Salento, my dutiful peasants! Find the land, civilize, fortify, whatever you can! I want the peninsula to be the base of operations in this war. Jason, head over with the team; Odysseus, you stay here with me. I have big plans for you, king. Big plans. Make sure everything is ready for attack and defense. If it isn’t up to my standards, I shall banish you to the land of Meroe, where you will suffer a horrid death upon the sands of the Sahara! Take heed and take action, men!”
((-Nike is getting serious, I think. -If you don’t know where Salento is, look it up. -I hope doing something like this is a legal move in the game.))

“People of Elis, hearken unto me! I Pan am truly not a vindictive god, not like that arrogant ‘wanker’ Zeus! We drank wine together, we broke bread together, we had good times together!” Pan said with a leering grin at some of the women he ‘gotten close’ with.

“I Pan will graciously bow down to your wishes and leave the fair land of Elis, taking my brethren with I!” With that, Pan walks through the crowded streets of Elis passing many of it’s citizens, occasionally caressing the bellies of the women as he goes by with a slight smirk on his face.

Upon reaching the gates, he sees the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpy descend on to the town. With a smile on his face he calls out, “Fair harpies! Daughters of the sky! Why do you terrorize this city? Come away with me, and we shall feast and be merry elsewhere! These sons and daughters of Elis has done no wrong for thy to attack them.”
Is it too late to play as Sapphos?
To Syracuse:

The city of Corinth welcomes your representatives and are delighted to begin talks on a strategy to blockade the heathenish city of Eretria. My flotilla is currently patrolling the waters outside of Rhodes and can easily join up with your fleet. We may discuss an alliance between us further if needed.

Without wax,

Lord Bellerophon

Updates (Long one today, a lot happened):

I have heard from people in Argos last night that they heard hideous screams and the sound of bones breaking. Some also saw a massive man with what looked like a lion’s cape running from the city afterwards. In the morning, several servants serving the military commanders of Sparta found seven of them brutally slain in their tents, their necks snapped and backs severed! ‘Who could do such a thing?’ one of them asked. ‘It had to be something, or someone, with strength and rage that had no limit.’ The other said. As far as I know, the Spartan military has not been directly impacted by this, though the chain of command has been put into flux. The people of Argos are fearful that this monster may return. Perseus, King of Argos, has been notified, and he has increased security in the wake of the meeting between he, Cadmus, and their father Zeus.

On the topic of Cadmus, it appears that his soldiers have begun to move south, towards Athens. The government of Athens has been told by messengers that they are to welcome these troops into their city as additional protection from the god Poseidon. Cadmus also is currently awaiting talks with Zeus and Perseus in Argos. In Thebes, we have seen large fires in the sky, and this is coming from the temples to the gods. All of the temples in Thebes are currently being destroyed! The people of Thebes are basically putting their trust in Cadmus, and have no avenue to worship divine beings anymore.

Hades has instructed Eretria to use some of the city wealth to buy both materials and labor for fortification of its ships and city walls, increasing their defenses! Eretria has also sent several emissaries, along with multiple large chests of gold, out to Aegina. It looks like the city is trying to buy an ally.

The city of Aegina, meanwhile, seemingly taking a page out of Cadmus’ playbook, has destroyed the temples to Zeus in the city! The people of the city have been instructed to put their faith in other gods. This did not go over entirely well, as there are whisperings that this was a direct order that came from the magistrate in charge of maintaining the temples in Aegina. The magistrate is nowhere to be found, though he may be in the citadel walls where the King of Aegina resides.

After a successful strategy of (I guess) not being drunk in front of the harpies, Pan has gained control of them! The townspeople of Elis, so relieved to not be terrorized by these she-beasts, are lifting the banishment of Pan. ‘I know our Lord Zeus wants you gone, but you have been generally good to us, so we will lift our banishment and allow you to come by for visits if you wish. Please just notify Zeus if you are going to do such a thing; and, if he has a problem with it, to not get us involved,’ an official said to Pan. ‘Though we are not allowing the Satyrs back into the city, we are still cleaning up the mess they made while they were here.’

Also of note, one of you has been especially sneaky in your moves, and has been privately notified that the fastest mortal on the planet, Atlanta, has joined your side!

Finally, announcing our first alliance, and it’s a doozy. There is a triple alliance between the city-states of Rhodes, Corinth and its commander Bellerophon, and Syracuse! They are united in their opposition to the city-state of Eretria, and Rhodes and Corinth have begun to move their navies to blockade the trade routes of Eretria. Corinth has also sent a delegation to Aegina, looks like they are seeking a fourth in their alliance. It also appears that the fabled Colossus at Rhodes is currently locked in place on the island, and not being resurrected. Because of taking part in intense negotiations with two other city-states, the fabled military commander Agamemnon has joined the side of Bellerophon!

I will update the map and descriptions to reflect the various troop engagements and moves.

Also one more note, when writing your moves, try to keep this in mind. You are able to directly control your actions, but when you interact with the world, that is independent of your actions. The probability of getting something you want is higher if the people/monsters are under your influence, but it is not necessarily the case. Generally, keep to these rules, and remember the more original, true to your character, and descriptive your moves, the more likely they are to pass:

 1. The players say what they are doing or going to do.
 2. I will let the players know what the consequences of the actions are.
 3. The players can then move on to their next action.

So if you are a mortal in charge of a city, you can move your troops around and attack other players, who are able to respond. If you are a god, you can will them to move their troops, but it may not always happen, especially if the city is not all that under your influence. As a god though, your deity’s control over nature is under your control, ex. Summoning thunderstorms, Urthquakes, chaos, etc. I will tell you the results of your actions though. If you post your intentions for doing these actions, that will help me in determining what sort of reaction and consequence happens. Hopefully that helps clear up some things.

The citizens of Elis, who remembered Zeus’ promise, looked up and saw harpies in the sky.

Scared that these harpies were a sign of divine punishment from Zeus, the townspeople forcibly banished Pan from the city-state.

Maybe godmodding. But…gr…
Zeus looked down and saw that parts of the Spartan army in Argos had been decimated. And he knew of only one person who that could be. Oh, Heracles. He gathered one of his lightning bolts to throw soon.

But first, he had to win back Elis. In another storm, instead of rain, it fell posters. Posters of Do you want to be led by a Goat Man? or Electing a Rapist.

He prepared another lightning bolt to throw at Pan if he tried to show up in Elis again.

OOC: You can’t directly control what the cities do. That would dance on the edge of godmodding. You, as a god can influence a city to do something, but don’t be certain. Still confused? Read Furnifold’s post.

OOC: I did say it was probably godmodding.

Maps have been updated!

Here is one outlining the latest developments: http://imgur.com/M4FZZNw

I also thought to make your lives a bit easier, and I added maps indicating the strength and size of the army, navy, or population of the city. The larger the symbol, the more powerful/larger the city-state

Army size: http://imgur.com/a/Kct16
Navy size: http://imgur.com/a/DzjaK
Population size: http://imgur.com/a/Kfs4r[edit_reason]Updated map[/edit_reason]

Updates for the mighty Greek beings:

The city of Aegina has announced that the official in charge of maintaining the temples to Zeus went rogue and ordered the destruction of the temples without anyone’s approval. They also announce they have credible information that the official is somewhere north of the city, in the vicinity of Thebes!

The forces of knock-off in Ithaca have landed in Salento, on the Italian Peninsula. From there they have access to the Italian coastline, as well as Syracuse. Right now their forces are setting up a base, perhaps for the long haul.

Back in the Spartan encampment near Argos, none other than Heracles (shocker!) comes into view! ‘I have come to fight, to fight for an open general position in the Spartan army,’ he calls out. Normally the military commanders would not allow this sort of brazen challenge; however, given that Heracles is the strongest warrior in all the land, they cannot refuse his challenge. The Spartan army is being recalled back to Argos, in order to run through ‘war games’ and other competitions for the generals and candidates. On the way down, they are attacked by the Harpies! The Spartans revert to their tactical formations, but the Harpies are able to get past their shields and pluck some men out! While not enough to do serious damage to the army, the Harpies’ terrorizing of the forces has caused the Spartan army to double-time back to Argos.

Cadmus has moved his army away from Aegina, and instead have sent it north, towards Delphi! They stopped briefly in Thebes to pick up materials from the destroyed temples, and are carrying it along with them. There is also a long line of priests of Thebes and their followers who are trailing close behind the army.

Over in Elis, the poster campaign worked wonders! Not only are the people of Elis shocked at the belligerent goat they allowed into their city, but many of the women of the city have come forward to complain that Pan and his Satyrs made more than the land fertile, if you know what I mean.

Finally, sailors have heard rumors of a sweet song coming from somewhere near Ithaca. They know the stories of these songs, if you hear them, you are enthralled and follow their sound, where your vessel is dashed upon rocks. These can only be the Sirens, and they are somewhere in the vicinity of Ithaca…

That’s what I got for you folks, keep on playing hard!

OOC: Also, Tretrid has offered his services to assist me with my game master duties, so if you receive a message or an update from Tretrid, it is legitimate!

Hi Hades,

I think we can all say that our brother Poseidon is a bad god. He is rash, and that’s not the temperament of a gentlemanly god.

Therefore, I propose the anti-Poseidon League. Would you like to join!

Sincerely,
Zeus

Hi Zeus,

I’d love to team up with you!

A single ship slowly made it’s way out of the port of Corinth with the great Bellerophon on board. Him and all his men wore giant earmuffs (the fuzzy kinds) to block out all noise, only one man didn’t have muffs but was tied to the mast. Their mission: to take on the Sirens.

“Haha! Onward men! We shall be the first to take on those creatures!” Bellerophon hollered. In return his men stared at him with confused looks. It took a moment for Bellerophon to remember the earmuffs, so he quickly wrote what he yelled onto a piece of paper and showed his crew. This was followed by cheers (he assumed they were cheering, they looked excited) as the single ship sailed in the direction of Ithaca.
