… so is this THE film, Cameron’s masterpiece, a film to be seen, the eighth wonder of the world and so on?
Has anyone seen it? Liked? Hated?

4/5
Top notch SFX but story a little weak.

Kekekeke… indeed, I was expecting your comment, lol! But… what about your brother? Didn’t he like it?
It looked very cool.
Shame about the hippies though.
It was amazing
The only amazing thing this movie can claim to have was Stephen Lang’s performance as Colonel Quaritch. Other than that. Sub par.
Very pretty. Not enough airbending, though.
I get the feeling the only reason he called it Avatar was so the Avatar nick movie would not be able to use Avatar in its title.

Exactly! Hated the entire “out of touch with nature” attitude. That and the fact the lead character betrayed all of humanity!
Hoping for sequel were humans return and promptly nerve gas the entire planet. Justice done.
Just $400 million to go and Iron Jim beats his own record. Avatar has now grossed almost $1.4 billion worldwide.
… ok, in the end i’ve seen it. And indeed i liked it pretty much!!!
(BTW, i think the record has now gone… at least, all Italian ones have: most number of cinemas, highest income… whatever)
How much did Avatar grossed in Italy?
BTW, nearly crapped my pants when Avatar is almost within touching distance of Titanic’s worldwide gross. That is, unadjusted gross. Totally different story with adjusted gross.
Cameron is a genius. Pretty much end of story ![]()

I never watched it. Not so much because of the film but more because I don’t go to the cinema much these days.
As noted above, Dannistaan has never been to a cinema for almost 13 years. I know this because the last time I watched a film inside a cinema/theatre with him was M.I.B back in August 1997.
Compare this with me. I didn’t go to the cinemas until 9 years later when Borat was screening in my local cinema. That was around November 2006.

Something like 9,6 Euro millions during the first week-end (wow… 9,00 of those Euros were mine!!!), which should roughly be equal to 13.9 $ millions (consider that the second film of the weeked grossed 2.6 Euro millions…)
About Dann… wow. My wife always complain we never go to the cinema… now I can show her anoher dimension of “never”… ![]()
In China (where Bai Lung draws its inspiration from) they have apparently beated 2012’s RMB500 million gross in only a few days after it’s release (2012 needed a full run to achieve this amount). Coupled this with the film’s themes have drawn the suspicion of the Chinese authorities based on current events. They are calling for parts of the film to be censored as a result.
Yay… I’ve read it too. Well, for example I suppose the whole “we’ll fight to protect our right to stay here and who cares about your minings” message won’t be liked too much by a regime which has forced millions to move away to create mastodontic dams
but then… well, if you cut it away from the film, it suddenly becomes rather short… :S
The problem here is that the storyline and the themes which Avatar conveys is actually integral to the whole thing and to remove bits of it would make no sense at all.
Some may say that the film makes no sense at all from the start but to censor stuff…what is worse than no sense? ![]()
