Ugh… for those who don’t know, a few days ago there was this news story about a kid who was supposedly a passenger on an errant weather balloon. This put people on a literal wild-goose chase for a few hours but, when the balloon downed, the kid wasn’t inside. He was in the parents’ attic, supposedly fearing punishment from his parents.
Now, a bit of a backstory: the parents have been on TV before (wifeswap), are avid storm chasers, and have been known to exploit their kids on youtube videos.
Here’s where the fun begins. CNN did a news interview and asked a seemingly innocent question to the boy (named Falcon (???)) in response to his parents saying they were shouting and calling his name. The response? “We did it for the show”. Parents froze. One said ‘no’. Kid looks like he did something bad. And there it begins.
So it gets around pretty quickly that this could be a hoax perpetrated by the parents. CNN does another interview, again, being pretty innocent with wanting the boy’s clarification on his words. The dad interrupts the reporter, says CNN is appalling, and shoots down the question.
I’m kind of thinking this is a hoax performed via the parents. Anyone else?
