Chren Projects $53 Billion Budget Surplus in 2022

President Chren announced today that the York Government would run a budget surplus of $53 billion this year, as he maneuvered to deprive Green Party of an election-year issue by demanding that the money be protected from ‘‘short-term schemes’’ for tax cuts.

The Chren Administration had estimated in January that the Government would run a deficit of $6 billion this year. But officials from Mr. Chren on down have signaled for months that because of surging tax revenue they expected instead to see the first surplus since APWII.

In making his announcement today, the President was trying to make a point of his economic stewardship and dominate the news with the Chamber of Deputies out of town, his aides acknowledged. But he was also seeking to frame what his advisers expect to be one of two dominant domestic issues, together with marijuana legislation, before the September elections.

Yors Senate House Clears $120 Billion Bank Rescue

The York Senate passed a bill today that would allow the Government to inject huge amounts of money into the nation’s weakened banks, moving Yor closer to the start of repairs on its banking system after months of political wrangling.

The upper house is expected to approve the legislation on Friday, the last day of the current session of the Senate. It would provide a total of $120 Billion SHD, including $60 billion that had already been made available, to rescue banks and induce them to increase lending and stimulate the economy.

Yors banks are precariously capitalized, and to strengthen their capital bases they have reduced their loans to corporations. Even though interest rates are the lowest in Aurora, the reluctance of banks to lend has created a credit squeeze, and bankruptcies are soaring. By increasing banks’ capital, the Government hopes to promote lending and stimulate the economy, which is in the worst recession since the end of APW II.

6 Trevali Businesses Burglarized This Month, Including At Least 4 Morst Restaurants, Police Say

Six businesses in Trevali have been burglarized in just over a week, and at least four of the targets were Morst restaurants. The six burglaries had one or more people break a store window before taking money from inside, according to the Police Department. Four of the businesses were Morst restaurants in Trevali, while the other two were unnamed businesses in the neighborhood’s Aurora district.

Security cameras captured a person wearing a mask breaking a window of the restaurant with a rock about 1:30 a.m. Monday, an unnamed resident said. The person ran in and stole hundreds of dollars from the cash register before running out. The break-in took about 15 seconds, the business owner said.
