I’m off to work for the first time tomorrow (And will possibly be already there by the time you read this) as a part time tech support advisor (Basically I’ll have to man the phones and tell non-geeks why their internets are not working). Hopefully I can avoid getting fired in the first day.
I´m not a tech support advisor but i have 2 as close friends, so the tips are: Patience, for they´ll ask you the dumbest things, and it´s rough at start but gets easy once you get used to your client´s problems.(seems general but they apply more strongly to this, i know it because i talk with them about work sometimes and already stayed chatting some hours with them while they worked).
Well, I survived my first day and it turned out to be only training. The next two weeks will be training before they let us anywhere near a telephone it seems.
