Historical Summary: The Republic of Nisserige was originally founded in 1772 after a revolution against the ruling monarchy took place. The revolution mainly occurred due to the widespread adaptation of Gothiric Republicanism from the Enlightenment and dissatisfaction with how the current king projected his power over the mines and farms. After overthrowing the king and instituting a Republic, several major political factions, such as the Agrarian Party and the Civil Party, who often debated over how powerful the central government should be.
During the fast industrialization of the early 20th century, a handful of rich and powerful Gnomes came to own over 80% of all agricultural land and mines in Nisserige. Following a great economic depression, many Gnomes were fed up with the current system and the Communist Party rose to power. The Communists redistributed the land and heavily expanded upon many welfare programs in the government, especially education as before this Nisserige had a bad reputation for horrible public schooling. In the 1950s, a section of the Communist Party split off and called themselves the Labor Party. The Labor Party agreed with much of the things the Communist say, but argue that the central government should be weaker, similar to how the Agrarian Party did centuries ago. Today, several parties exist (such as the Communists, the Labor Party, the Green Party, and the Garden Party), often having to create coalitions to reach a majority.
