October 16:
We at the PNN, are deeply saddened to announce the murder of King Eldras IX of Alksearia. Having been kidnapped by the Balistrian government and executed on live television. Parliament is rushing to meet as soon as possible to discuss how Pledonia will react to this attack against our allies.
October 17:
With the murder of King Eldras VI of Alksearia, the Republic of Pledonia, in a 293-5 vote, with 2 abstaining, the has officially declared war on the Kingdom of Balistria. Pledonia will join the UCA in defending Alksearia after the unjust murder of Eldras VI. Chancellor Lukas Gronseth addressed Parliament today, stating, “Balistria must be punished for the murder of His Majesty King Eldras IX of Alksearia.” Parliament also agreed to send 10,000 volunteers to Alksearia.
We wish our troops luck and hope for a quick end to this conflict.
BREAKING NEWS:
At around 12:00am this morning the Imperial Republic placed 200,000 men along their border with Helsandr. Helslandr claims it is a blatant military buildup to be followed by an invasion, while the Imperial Republic claims it is merely to prevent rebels from entering the country. We now bring you to Bjarne Hermansen, the Minister of Defense for his opinion on the situation:
“This military build-up is nothing less than a blatant act of aggression and we condemn this action taken by the Imperial Republic. We stand with our Vestravan ally and are willing to provide military assistance if necessary. Vestrava will not back down in the face of such blatant aggression.”

TSUNAMI WARNING:

At around 17:51 this evening, a magnitude 9.2 urthquake struck in the Southern Sea, right off the coast of Aduraszna. Due to the intensity of the urthquake, the Emergency Management Agency has issued a tsuanmi warning along the entire coastline. Those living within 15 km of the coast are mandated to evactuate to high ground immediately. No aquatic vehicles will be allowed to embark until further notice, all aquatic vehicles currently embarked are to return to dock immediately. We will update you as the situation continues.

TSUNAMI AFTERMATH UPDATE:

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, this is Helge Aanstad with the Pledonia News Network, bringing you an update on the aftermath of the tsunami and consequent flooding. Cities along the coast are now under around a meter of water in some areas, in some places more. Gjovik was hit especially hard by the tsunami, causing untold damage to not only the city, but Gjovik harbor as well.
Several hundred are missing across the country with no confirmed dead at the moment. The Emergency Management Agency and the Pledonian Armed Forces have declared they will be moving all of their resources to search and rescue operations to those still stranded in the flooded cities. Now please join us live as Prime Minister Lukas Gronseth addresses the nation.
“A disastrous calamity has ravaged the nation, separating families and loved ones and destroying our beautiful nation. However, we cannot lose hope, lest we forget this is not the first time our nation’s spirit has been tested. We have suffered worse and we have overcome worse. This nation’s tenacity will see us through to the end. We will overcome this like we always have. Our main priority is to rescue those still trapped in the flooded cities and towns. Afterwards, once the water has dissipated, we must begin the recovery process. In this, we will not be alone. We are humbled by the generosity of our allies, who shall help us every step through our recovery. May Odin be with us during these troubling times.”

TSUNAMI AFTERMATH UPDATE:

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, this is Helge Aanstad with the Pledonia News Network, bringing you an update on the numbers after the recent tsunami in the Southern Sea. Reports from the Emergency Management Agency indicate that the confirmed dead has risen to 10,347 confirmed dead and is, unfortunately, expected to rise over the coming days. Around 4,000 are currently injured, with that number also expected to rise in the coming days. Thousands are still missing, around 15,000 according to some estimates. Pledonia’s recovery efforts are currently being aided by the UCA, and other countries, such as Morstaybishlia, sending both funds and manpower to help with setting up temporary shelters for the displaced, temporary hospitals for the injured, and search and rescue operations for those still in the cities. We’re eternally grateful for the kindness and generosity of those aiding us through this crisis.

HELSLANDR NATIONALISTS SPILL INTO PLEDONIA:

As of around 14:00 today, it was reported that around 5,000 Helslandr nationalist soldiers crossed over into the Pledonian border. With almost all of the Pledonian military focusing its efforts on rescuing those affected by the recent tsunami, there’s little along Pledonia’s southern border to prevent the Helslandr civil war from spilling into Pledonia. The small number of troops stationed there hail from across the UCA, mostly Norgsveldet.

Several small-scale skirmishes have already occurred along the Pledonian border, resulting in the death of over 100 Norgsveltian soldiers. Norgsveltian General in Pledonia, Haakon Sundå Handsen has expressed his concerns over the prospect of more incursions by the nationalists into Pledonia. He is suggesting that UCA troops enter Helslandr to set up an “occupational border” to prevent more incursions by the nationalists.

TELVE KVIRKDELEN ASSASSINATED:

In breaking news we’ve learned that Lord Commander Telve Kvirkdelen was assassinated during his announcement that he would be stepping down as Lord Commander in October of this year. His successor was announced to be Princess Astrid of Norgsveldet during that same announcement. The assassin, disguised as a security guard during the announcement attempted to assassinate both Kvirkdelen and Princess Astrid, however, Princess Astrid thankfully remained unharmed. Kvirkdelen was rushed to a hospital afterwards where he unfortunately passed away from his wounds. The assassin was killed during the altercation, by Ylva Kattdalen, the Region General of Helslandr. Kvirkdelen was one of the longest reigning rulers on Urth, having served 55 years as Lord Commander.
Minister of National Defense, Lucas Solheim, had this to say upon hearing the news:
“Let it be known that Pledonia condemns the actions of the assassin and anyone else who was involved. We are deeply saddened by Lord Commander Kvirkdelen’s passing and we will do all that we can to aid Helslandr in bringing those responsible to justice.”
Worries now arise that the assassination may now lead to civil disorder and widespread political violence in Helslandr. We’ll continue to report on the situation over the few coming days as more information comes out.

IRON FRONT TERRORIST ATTACK: HUNDREDS DEAD

Thirty minutes ago, the town of Litengrunn, on the border of Helslandr, was attacked by a group of Iron Front guerillas accompanied by nationalist insurgents from Helslandr. The size of the group varied according to eye witness accounts, currently estimated from 20 to up to 200 strong. The attackers were armed and equipped with chemical as well an incendiary explosives and appeared to have deliberately targeted civilians. Early estimates from military personal currently in Litengrunn range from 200 to 400 dead, with hundreds more injured. Local firefighters have teamed up with the military to help battle the inferno that has now consuming the town.
President Oscar Nordheim is expected to address the nation soon regarding the attack.
This shocking event begs the question, is this a part of a coordinated series of strikes against Pledonia? Is this the beginning of a full blown war? We pray to Odin to protect us and guide us through this horrific tragedy, and my the souls of those slaughtered rest in peace.

President Nordheim Adresses the Nation

"…My fellow Pledonians, a grave catastrophe has struck this nation to it’s very core. An attack not only poised against our democracy, but the very people of this nation. Let it be known that we will not take this sitting down, we will not let such an unwarranted act of barbarity go unavenged. The Iron Front is to be recognized as a terrorist organization and anyone involved with them are to be seen as enemies of the state.
We will be sending troops into Helslandr in order to eradicate the extremist groups which reside there, and to ultimately capture or kill the terrorist leader Tirlid Kvirkdelen, whom has orchestrated the nationalist insurgency and possibly the assassination of Telve Kvirkdelen.
I will also be personally meeting with the other UCA leaders in order to secure their nations’ support.
We will not stop until those who’ve perished have been avenged. May Odin protect us."

President Nordheim’s Response to King Sebastián II’s Condemnation of the UCA
"The Union of Commonwealth Alliances was created with the intent of mutual defense among nations against any who have assailed them. This does not extend to just global superpowers. The fact of the matter is that this nation was attacked, and therefore, the UCA has acted in its full rights to aid in our defense against the terrorists residing in Helslandr. Let it be known that intervention into Helslandr was only discussed once our people were slaughtered by their hands. Would you not retaliate against an enemy who has slain your people in cold blood as well? We wanted to stay out of this war by all means, but our hand was forced once our people’s blood was spilt. This intervention’s mission is merely to put down this terroristic insurgency, which has harmed so many already, and to apprehend their leader. The reconstruction of the Helslandrer government will be left to the people of Helslandr and not the UCA.
We find it very concerning that the act of us requesting aid from our allies, after a terrorist attack against us, and them accepting, is considered a ‘breach of international mandates’ according to the Corric government. Our mission to eradicate the nationalist terrorists in Helslandr will continue, our people will be avenged, but once vengeance has been achieved, we will let the people of Helslandr choose their own path forward."

GOVERNMENT CONDEMNS PROJECT STAR KINDLE
The Federation of the Southern Coast has recently unveiled their now nuclear capabilities. The Prime Minister of the Southern coast made this announcement to the world earlier today and stated a nuclear test would be commencing tomorrow. The location of this test is unknown.
President Nordheim along with the Pledonian Government have condemned these upcoming nuclear tests stating that, “The existence of such weapons not only threatens the already fragile peace in the region, but also pushes sapient-kind to abyss of world nuclear annihilation.”
Nordheim also threatens that if the Federation continues its nuclear weapon production, Pledonia will have no choice but to station nuclear missiles from Norgsveldet within its own borders for the nation’s own protection.

PRE-ELECTION POLL RESULTS
With five months until the 2022 General Election, many are eager to see how the nation will be voting. Over the past month, PNN has conducted a nationwide poll asking one simple question: “Which party will you be voting for this October?” Note this question only applied to the Stortringet election and not the Presidential Election. As you can see, conservative parties have gotten a large boost in popularity since the last election. From what can be inferred, this is due to Pledonian intervention in Helslandr and growing tensions in Vestrava with the Southern Coast now obtaining nuclear weapons. While again the Democratic freedom party is still expected to garner the most seats, and still ally with the Agrarian conservatives, one new addition to the Stortinget is the up and coming Pledonian National Union. Their recent popularity has exploded since the Pledonian intervention in Helslandr, and since then their policy has been crystal clear, “Pledonia First.” They would plan to limit Pledonian intervention abroad and set a more isolationist policy, however, their opinion toward the UCA, NCEF, and AYN remains unclear.
